@@TheMurrmursonbottle Eric was phenomenal though I definitely think he is up there. To be able to make it to 5th place with being forced to make awful game move after awful game move is astonishingly amazing to me. Especially with the fact that he wasn't even thought of as a target before the banner plane. He was playing off the possibility of himself being the hinky votes so well then an outside force screwed him which he had no control over.
Great list, but I personally would have Vanessa as #1, Danielle R as #2, and Eric at #3. All of them have flaws, but I think that Vanessa played such a dominating game. She was responsible for 12 out of the 17 houseguest's eviction. She would have won but lost by one question. 1 QUESTION!. I was so upset she didn't win and Steve did, such a travesty.
But I would include Amanda from 15, Roddy from 3 (thanks Jordan for the acknowledgement), Frankie from 16, Natalie from 11, and Libra from 10. I find Libra criminally underrated. She had a BIG hand in the first 4 evictions of Season 10 and never gets mentioned as a good player.

Always love your ranking videos guys, keep them coming. I only have a couple of issues. I think Janelle deserves a spot on the list. I value the social game as much as anyone but making it to the final 3 back to back and one of those times being an all star season is pretty impressive, especially when both times she had a great chance to win. And my other issue is Eric at number 1. He's great but his placement is based on a hell of a lot of variables. And for people who love data coming in 5th and having all of your decisions being twist influenced is a lot to consider. I would have to say that Danielle should be second and Vanessa number 1. She was a force to be reckoned with. She was playing 24/7 and was one comp away from winning. What she lacked in the social department she made up for in the jury respecting her dominance. It's hard to compare Eric unproven potential against that. Again great list, keep them coming! I want to see top 15 worst moves!

Put more female pro poker players on the game, and they will get the same high level strategic GTO style.
Danielle Reyes from Season 3 to be is the best player to never win.
She was great season 3, but on season 7 all star she was for the most part a floater, and got played by Erika, a two time mega floater. Danielle is very good, but not really a strong argument for the best.
MrZola1234 Agreed. People only are so high on her because she should have won her season, and their bitterness towards her loss almost makes her into a martyr, and something more than she was. She was great and arguably the best player on her season (some people would point to Jason) but compared to people like Vanessa, she has no chance

@TheMurrmursonbottle Danielle played better than Vanessa because she had a ride or die (Jason Guy) which she was loyal to and she worked with him to get information from the other sides of the house yet Vanessa has an army, so it is impressive how Danielle controlled all the evictions with just another person yet Vanessa didn’t really control all the evictions. Another point is how Bb3 was very new to the television so people didn’t really have good strategies coming in but Danielle did and that is impressive while Vanessa’s season was 13 years later so she kind of had the ideas of what to implement when coming to the Bb house. My final point is that when people compare Danielle’s and Vanessa’s misted moves I would say that Danielle’s was better because Marcellas is a way better player than Julia so it was less impressive of what Vanessa did compared to what Danielle did due to Marcellas being in the All star season.

For me one of the biggest flaws a player can have is transparency. For that reason, I don't rate Vanessa as highly as everyone else. Everyone in the house knew her game, and it felt more like luck and circumstances beyond Vanessa's control are the reasons that she stayed in as long as she did. I have to think that better players would have evicted her a lot sooner.
Danielle was amazing in this regard. Nobody knew what she was up to. You only have to watch Lisa's reaction when Danielle comes clean to her in final 2 to see what a subtle, deceptive game she played
+Benjamin Roberts not for nothing but the only reason why she made third is because her alliance since the first double eviction won almost every hoh. She was going to get evicted until Shelli stole a shirt from James thus flipping the vote. Had someone from the other alliance won HOH they would have evicted her especially if someone like Jackie, John, or Becky won hoh. And when it came down to the F6 Steve, John, and Vanessa was forced to target Austwins. Also how many times did Liz and Austin say in the DR the reason why they never targeted Vanessa is because they would become the next biggest target.
Abiel Tesfamariam right, SEVERAL people wanted her out, and they would have succeeded on a different day. A lot of the time it felt like she was getting lucky, such as Becky's poor backdoor attempt or some of her HOH wins.
+Benjamin Roberts she gets lucky that Shelli was petty enough to take a shirt while she was on the block. Becky should have put Liz next to Vanessa to secure the votes. Even if James and Meg wanted to flip Jackie and John would have voted her out as they could never trust her.

Abiel Tesfamariam I think the reason is that Vanessa played a more VISIBLE game than Danielle. That is why she is acknowledged as a better player, because people watching at home can see her influence more clearly on the game. It is also, ironically, probably the reason why she is a WORSE player. Like I said in my original comment: no transparency

nakomis was the one that led the pact diane won that HOH but nakomis solidified her seccuss with her inivative game and was the one that one the HOH that solidified the groups power
I am with Brent on the ranking of Spencer. I feel as if people are being swayed by the fact that he is prominent in the BB community. I recall trying to stand up for him in BB15 and no one on the RHAP at that time thought he stood a chance.

I remember being stoked Janelle wasn't as high as I thought she'd be in this list. Not because I dislike her, but her game is terribly overrated and I've seen people actually rank her better than Danielle Reyes which is laughable. Janelle is a legend of the game and a great character, but she really doesn't have a good social game at all. She's actually very catty, spiteful and cold. Which makes for a great character, but not a very good BB player.
Yeah she is so overrated due to likeablity. I dont think she should be on the list at all. Strategically and socially she was just not good. She was phenomenal at comps but in the other aspects she is not good.
Brent, you should've sandbagged Eric. SOOOO overrated, just because he was Americas player and the RHAP people know him personally. Eric didn't run his season, and who knows what would've happened if Eric had his way and Dick goes home early on instead of Dustin. Eric could've been screwed. Vanessa is entirely and utterly better. Yes she came close to being screwed, but she always got out of it except the final HOH. She was challenged by other people who could actually play the game and still made it to the final 3. Derrick was never challenged. And yes, that's me saying Vanessa is better than Derrick. She is hands down, one of the top 3 players of Big Brother, and I know many people agree with me

I was kind of upset that Britney Haynes wasn't on this list. She had a phenomenal social game in BB12 which wasn't as great in 14 but was still amazing! She would have won if it wasn't for the brigade and have made it farther in BB14 if it wasn't for Dan.

Soo Boo Britney was a dominant player in BB14. Everyone that season not only liked her, but trusted her as well. People would tell Brit anything, which as a BB player, is an amazing trait
Agreed, britney played one of the best social games ever on big brother in bb14 and everyone trusted her. If dan had left that week she would have been set up to at least make final 3, and could probably have gotten shane to take her over danielle to final 2.
You know that when Dan says that you were his biggest threat that you have potential and you were doing something right

I hated him, but Frankie was a very good player, and would have had a great chance to beat Darek, who everyone thinks is a god. Totally screwed by the rewind.
The fact Eric and Vanessa are ranked above Danielle Reyes is a travesty. She lost because of a bitter jury in BB3
Kathleen D and Vanessa lost because of a crapshoot final HOH. Danielle played in a way that was great for modern BB, but frowned upon for her time.
After every season, you should rank all the players bAsed off of the season

Disclaimer: I'm not a live-feeder. I agree with Taran here about Vanessa (in part, anyway -- I wouldn't call her the second best person never to win this game, as that would be a sad state of affairs in big brother today, which may be true and may mean I'm just cynical about houseguests in general today).
Vanessa's side of the house, which began after she and Austin got HOH together, would come to have roughly 75% HOH-control and direction of the game -- and yet Vanessa, none of them actually, didn't win. That side of the house, with power, was cemented when the immaturity that is 'the house' let the twin twist out of the bag, making Vanessa tell Austin they need to stick to the end, because of the numbers. (You do not need Game Theory, by the way, to entertain this thought ;)) With Vanessa, I hear odd interpretations of her game: I mean, Why would we merit a houseguest who is trouble for their own alliance, trouble for the rest of the house on the whole, yet survives, at the odd time because of her way to strategize (can't take that from her, but strategy, in a weekly composition that is big brother, is finite for the game, but indefinite for the we is finite in because of the inactions of others in the house, not one's own transactions), but on the whole because of the in-activity of her accusers, keeping her as a target, and thus 'not' because of her manipulative abilities. I have watched season 17 twice now, and I simply cannot see this masterful game. The only thing Vanessa got down to a tee is the numbers; not surprising given her poker background.
Building on Taran's point: Contrast the fact Taran mentioned about the majority HOH control being in Vanessa's corner, and yet her still losing, with that of Johnny Mac, who I think played the best game in 17, partly because he always seemed to be opposite Vanessa, without the numbers, and not in tandem with power: being used as a pawn for power at first, which built rapport with Clay and Shelli, because he didn't give two thoughts to any fear of competition (nothing fazed this guy), but then using that power to be a veto beast and try in some way to work with the not-so-gregarious Steve Moses. He kept Vanessa as his enemy closest, never revealing any plan to evict her when he was in her presence -- impressive, given that a professional poker player couldn't countenance any of it by way of tells. Add this to John's slack-jawed, unique demeanour, which would likely only find a home in the hearts of a few endearing popular fans, and the ostensive production emphasis on discussing how Wow! Vanessa's game apparently is, and it's easy to miss all this in a viewing of the 28 episodes or whatever.
Wait you think John played better? Omg if so you're going to have Vanessa stans harass you for that.
To be clear, I think Vanessa, to her season, played the most offensive game. But like any game, I think strategy and gameplay can be merited when it is defensive, as John's was the whole time, in a game where the odds and luck of the draw -- common to every season, mind you -- were overwhelmingly in Vanessa's favour. How she didn't win was once beyond me, just given her positioning in the game, but not anymore. She played, in my own opinion, a good game overall, but not excellent or legendary as so many fans believe; John never once flinched in the house, the only one, with James, that season. But John's combination of risk-taking, strategy, having a constant beat on the house, never being seriously disliked, slightly surpasses Vanessa's surplus of strategy and domineering negotiation skills, as her emotions and genuine ability to believe her own bullshit are too risky to keep in a game, even statistically speaking.
So yes, while I think arguments can be made either way, I do think John's overall game play was more safe and fortifying to be capable of getting far, or winning, in any season you'd drop him in; more than Vanessa's. But I can see people still always enjoying and meriting Vanessa's -- frankly -- frenetic game play.
As for Vanessa fans: I don't know why they would haras me, though maybe I may given that they are fans of Vanessa Rousso (sic). Just kidding. Don't worry about those fans, man. They're not our problem anyway.

I think the biggest reason why Vanessa is praised to much is because her game was much more aggressive and flashy compared to Steve, John, and Austin who were a lot more subtle. Vanessa got lucky with when she wasn't voted out the week Becky was HOH. The only reason why Vanessa stayed was because of Shelli taking a shirt from James (Which James admitted that the DR told him and he said it on the live feeds) and Vanessa had so much trouble making it to the end. I believe she isn't as legendary as people are trying to make her to be. Especially compared to Jun, Maggie, Dan, Will, or Derrick.
I never once saw evidence that Vanessa had the game on lock. Steve, John, Becky, Jackie, and Austwins all saw through her BS and the reason Austwins didn't evict her is because they would have been the next target after she was gone. Her theatrics might have been great to watch for some fans but it just hurt her overall and I don't have her in the top 10. Especially what the revisionist historians have made up about her game.
Vanessa and Dan are alike. Both have flashy games and get praised for it even though its not the better play.

Wait, how is Derrick being willing to take Cody over Victoria just as bad as Cody taking Derrick over Victoria? For, Derrick, taking Cody over Victoria is the better move - Derrick and Cody both played the same type of game (strategic/social) but Derrick obviously played a 10 times better game, making it easy for voters. It also would have shown the strength of the Hitmen alliance which Derrick was the main force behind. Derrick obviously wins against Victoria too, but taking Cody makes him look even better. Cody taking Derrick, on the other hand, is just literally giving Derrick half a million dollars. The jurors even said after that if it was Cody and Victoria, Cody would have won.

My problem with this list is I think Eric Stein is too high. I agree he was a great player and could've won if not for the America's player. The only thing is we never got to see Eric as a strategist (due to America's player twist), and that is an integral part of being a big brother player. Sure he was very persuasive and a great manipulator, but we also have to be able to see him as a strategist before putting him over the likes of Danielle Reyes one of the greatest strategists we have ever seen.
I definitely agree with your top 3, not sure if I agree with the order but I'm fine with it. I only wish Shelly woulda come in 4th place.

The Spencer debate is a perfect case in point for those who under value competitions in BB. He didn't just fail at the wall...he practically doubled up time wise....if he was using his social game to put him in a postion to win...this was his moment to shine.. but .he wasn't even close.
Edit: Seriously I just got to the part about Janelle and I can't believe what I'm hearing.
I can understand why BB games don't get the same respect as Survior challenges. That part's obvious. Yes there are a few carnival type random chance games sprinkled in there on the off chance that they might aid an underdog or shake things up a bit....
However it can't be stressed enough that these competitions play just as large a role in determining an ultimate winner as they do in the game of Survivior and as such competiton beasts should not be underestimated.

I really think Marvin (Season 5) should get some credit for being the ultimate floater.
Certainly you could argue that he shouldn't make the list of best players to never win, but a fifth place showing given the makeup of the cast in his season is impressive.
He gets no credit at all for coming up with the six finger plan that Nicomas implemented and took credit for. he walked into the house a big physical intimidating preesence, and there wasn't a week that went by that he wasn't in the conversation for nomination.
He had the guts to break up the twins and get that blood on his hands...in fact he was so charismatic America voted him on to the Young and the Restless.
I got the impression he felt he had no natural allies in that house from the rip. Hard to fault him for not wanting to ally with the girls against the Horsemen...he would have been out a lot earlier had he tried.

jases task was so easy since jannelle is way to determined to get her own way and he screwed it up by being more focused on HOH than the game he was safe and with dannielle had some good logic it wasnt like becoming HOH she knew jase had to disagree for thier alliance to work and she came up with the idea and marcellas would also be HOH and jase woould be safe 7-3

Izumi Yoshida I go back and forth between this. She definitely is a GOOD player. Great, and/or deserving to be on this podcast?? That’s hard to tell. She lasted the longest out of all the people not in the Brigade, and part of that is definitely attributed to her social game, but she was practically an extra member of the brigade that got pretty far with the help of Lane. She’s not horrible at competitions, but not a beast. In BB14 she was a really great strategist, Dan even naming her his biggest threat and competition. However, her social game faltered, with people describing her as a bratty or even like a troll (gotta love Wil Heuser). She’s definitely great TV in the end

Vanessa is the best. Eric was benefited by the fact America made his choices. For the most part, the public made the best move for him.
Not true at all. They told him to throw put 2 votes against the house which really screwed him, sent out his ally who just saved him over the guy who tried to get him out the previous week, had him target amber at final 7 when he knew that the best option was to go after dick and daniele at that point all of those completely screwed his game yet he survived to final 5. It's remarkably impressive.

survivor cook islands wasnt the first sxeason you can split votes it was survivor panama if your talking about survivor fiji i would agree since it was the 1st season with the new format and with the rules of that format back then before its cagayan return if you target the person that doesnt have the special idol in the 1st 2 seasons i mentioned one of your team would have gone home anyway if its cagayan you cannot save other players and if you target the player who doesnt have the idol your group survives and stacy kimball came up with the plan i was talking about

Kevin evicting Michele ended his game. If he evicts Jordan at F4, he wins the game because he goes to the Final 3 with Natalie and Michele who hate each other and he wins against either. That's why he wouldn't make my list though I love him

As much as I detest paul, I do think he should be on this list. But absolutely not at the top. He’s a terrible social player, as demonstrated by his inability to win a jury vote two season in a row. Compared to someone like Vanessa, who wasn’t an amazing social player but was still capable of making enough bonds to win a jury vote if she made it there, Paul falls flat

I don't know if Brittany is better than Enzo, at least not in that season. She made a lot of friends, but she wasn't often in a position to really show how good of a player she was until season 14.

MirandaH96 I found it a little entertaining in the beginning with Day and Jason but the other side of the house was steamrolled, seasons like that aren't entertaining to me. Last season was more entertaining than this one.
+Marley Mal I agree I feel like the first half of Big Brother 17 was on point. I was glued to the feeds, to the updates, to jokers, everything. Once the first double eviction came around, that's when it started slipping. The Sixth Sense dominated it, but it was still entertaining because of Vanessa and her antics. I think that Big Brother 17 was a great season. Easily in my top 8, and the best season we had in a while.
+MooseGirl1996 im late but Big Brother 6, 7, 8 and 10 are what id want in big brother, good players and stuff. If you have been watching for ages you seem to have more dislike for newer seasons because the quality of players has gone done.
