21 year old woman learning more about her anatomy in the last 10 minutes than her entire educated life. Thanks, high school biology for making me feel like a gross weird meat bag and thank you Hank for not beating round the bush. ...Pun 100% intended.
There are many components to studying human anatomy. One place I discovered that successfully combines these is the Sebs Study Crammer (check it out on google) without a doubt the most incredible info that I've seen. Check out this interesting resource.
it's a great video. But, how did your school make you feel like a weird meat bag, while hank didn't? They literally teach you the same things and that is the truth we are weird meat bags.
I've had PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) since I started puberty at 12-years-old, and this 10 minute video taught me more than actual doctors have over seven years, so thanks a lot, Crash Course!
+Linda Maria You know, there are these things called "books", that people have used in former times to beg for wisdom by the gods, it's not that long ago that this was done, so some people knowing of this ritual technique may still be alive .. you could also have used this method
+Frank Schneider you make a valid point, but when you're a twelve y/o girl your mom already makes awkward conversations about puberty. Could you imagine asking her to buy you books on it? Or go to the library? Most of the books aimed at teens for pms are titled things like "EXPLORING YOUR CHANGING BODY," which is mortifying to read.
Kirsten Joy You can get pretty much all of the basics from every introductory textbook on physiology. I mean I get your point, but if someone wants to know about a topic and doesn't look it up, that's highly irrational. Staying unknowledgeable just because of fuzzy emotions is imho a behavior that can not and should not be justified.
+Frank Schneider Chances are she attempted to do her own research on the matter and then turned to doctors for more in depth answers because she didn't fully understand. Nothing about that seems irrational when you consider that while yes, books are there for our own personal development, there are people who are deemed professionals and experts in their respective fields and it would be illogical to not seek them out because you've found a couple of books related to the topic in your local library and think that means you've now got all you need to solve the problem.
i came here to see how bad the comments are and save the worst of them. surprisingly mature, as most of these are people preparing for exams and not those less mature people who make jokes about this specific system
bless this video. It is 8:40 pm and tomorrow I have a biology test about hormones and all those stuff..you resumed 2 months worth of course in 10 minutes go you.
***** I don't know I only reacted to Mistergamer9892 his reaction. he said ''This will end with a bang,'' So I only corrected him with ''No a baby'' It's what happens when you introduce a male organ with a female organ. it ends if succeeded with a baby.
I love this guy and the videos! they are so concrete, fun to watch, entertaining and so educational! it's so much better than spend a whole semester learning about anatomy. Also, some people are a little inmature when it comes to sex or genitalia (including me, OMG that eggplant LOL); the way these topics are presented here are completely accurate, scientific with the actual terms and professional, BRAVO!
This is so helpful as im currently preparing for my IGCSE in 2017 however i could do with you speaking a bit slower but none the less the videos are great!
holypicklesmofo It does cover a lot more than i need to know however it does cover what i do need to know pretty well. // Even so, i watch these vids just for my own personal intellectual growth.
I would like to thank you from my heart for two reasons. First, for your comprehensive explanation. Second, to include the Arabic translation in the video.
As a woman I find that I am not ashamed to talk about ovulating and periods. Women should not have to be ashamed to talk about our reproductive organ. Uteruses are amazing! Well done.
@CrashCourse just wanted to say a massive thank you for your videos, currently in first year at university and the physiology class is ALOT easier after watching the videos, I look forward to watching the next set of reproductive anatomy videos :)
Also something cool I learned is that the egg does not necessarily come out the opposite ovary every month (like alternating). Sometimes it may be the left ovary for 3 months in a row, etc.
Hope Hank briefly talks about what happens when the system doesn't function as it should. A significant number of people born with a female reproductive system don't have regular ovulation or menstrual cycles and it would be helpful for people to have a basic understanding of why this can happen.
+minipax I'm on the same page. What has happened in the last 10 years of society can never be reverted. There is only a man or a woman. Otherwise you have mutations. This is just base body structure, not higher levels of identity and gender.
At 7:05, once the egg is fertilized by the sperm, it is an Ovum, but it becomes a Zygote once the nucleus of the sperm cell and secondary oocyte merge.
Perfect timing. I have an exam tomorrow and my textbook is wide open, but I tried to distract myself with RUclips and this popped up on my subscription.
I was really expecting the comments to be disabled. Thank you, mature viewers, for not making me want to poke my eyes out and instead feel pleasantly impressed.
FINALLY! Competitive Sex Ed! Thank you Crash Course! You guys are awesome! We SO need your kind of full, comprehensive, science-focus, biological education in All The Schools! Teach the children! Teach the people! Save the world! :D
'Cause OHMYGAWD, so much stuff I didn't even know about my own body! This covers SO much more of the biological process than anyone EVER talks about. And that is FANTASTIC!!! Seriously, WHY wasn't this covered in my biology classes in school?!?! I also realized this video kind of explains what my birth control exactly does to regulate the whole process to keep my cycles less painful and, sure, prevent pregnancy. (pst! covering the biology at work behind birth control would also be awesome!)
I learned a lot more from this one video than I did from several months of sex ed in school, and in school it was in my native language, it says something about the school system.
I think the next video will still be the female reproductive system. At the end he does mention that they will talk about what happens if the egg is fertilised.
It's interesting to me how variable of an experience women have in regards to our periods. Some women I know have the worst periods ever, and complain of awful cramps every month. And there are women, like myself, who got extremely lucky in the period department. My periods are not the most enjoyable experience, as feminine products are annoying to deal with, but I don't get cramps at all. I really lucked out there.
I would also add that if it were biologically possible, evolution would just make you one big reproductive system. But it needs to get nutrients, and so it needs another system, and then both of those need oxygen, so you need one for that, but at this point it's too big so you need a circulatory system, and them all of this is too stupid to survive, so it needs to react with it's environment, and we get killed by viruses and bacteria, and it needs to move and have structure, and it needs a protective layer... Point is your body is there to provide for your reproduction. It is what drove evolution, and all of this amazing stuff we call life was produced in the process of becoming efficient at it.
+RainAngel111 Not really, unless the country's education is terrible, or parents misteaching aside from that in a normal first world school its all good.
Cramping of those muscles can be really painful. My husband described one of my really bad cramp attacks as "That looks as painful as being kicked in the nuts". Can't know if it'll be mentioned in the next episode, but not all fertilized eggs succeed in drilling into the uterine wall. I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that only about 1 in 4 is actually completely successful.
Hey, @CrashCourse, I think you might have a slight mistake in your video. Atresia is abnormally closed passage through the body. The word you are looking for at 05:01 is apoptosis (the programmed cell death). Edit: Oh. I just checked and you don't have a mistake. The process is indeed called atresia. Welp.
Alli Roma yes a woman is a female but thats not my argument. im saying someone born with female anatomy are girls MOST of the time but there are cases where people born with female anatomy end up being boys.
@@oinkoink4407 they dont have full female anatomy if they are boys. Like someone w AIS is a male because they have testes even if their outward genitals look like a vagina

you make this more complicated than it actually is. its much easier to learn from a text book. i thought this channel was to help people have a better and clearer understanding of things that can be challenging to learn from text books. you should try using more layman terms so its not so complicated.

Deal lord, this guy is too clever, wish that I was like him. maybe one day!! keep up the good work for crash course a&p... love this subject the most. :)
I'm no surgeon, but from what I've heard it hurts because the unfertilized egg is pushing up against the uterine wall. That's what causes both the bleeding and the pain, but about the other pms stuff I couldn't say. FYI I'm a guy.
+Baltoen Your uterus is contracting to help with the process of removing the functional layer of endometrium. Think of it as extremely low-key birth - instead of pushing out an entire human you're just pushing out some mushy tissue and blood. This is also why you might notice more frequent or less solid bowel movements at this time as your colon is pretty close behind where the uterus sits, and those contractions can get things moving a little more. So yes, unfortunately the pain is necessary.
Mathew Mendel Refer to the answer I provided :) Tell whoever told you that story about what I said :P Spread the education, friend! Edit: okay so ovulation pain is a real thing as I have just learned. However menstrual bleeding isn't caused by the egg pushing up against the uterine wall per se. The egg gets embedded in the endometrium, and then the uterus contracting is what causes blood (endometrium) to come out.
