A handful of species on Earth share a seemingly mysterious trait: a menstrual cycle. We’re one of the select few mammals on Earth that menstruate, and we also do it more than any other animal, even though it’s a waste of nutrients, and can be a physical inconvenience. So where’s the sense in this uncommon biological process? TED-Ed describes the history and evolution of menstruation.

I remember a story that my teacher told me. There was a girl, raised by a single father due to her mother dying from a disease when the girl was young. One day, when she was around 10, she got her first period and was crying, fearing that she’d die and thinking that she was going to end up like her mother. This really put me into perspective about this. How scary must it be to get your first period especially when you weren’t educated about it.
Sadly a lot of people aren't educated until they get their first, inspite of having moms.
A childhood friend of mine also did not know periods were a thing until she got her first one at school and got really freaked out understandably. She had a mom though. Tbh any parent should brief their kid before it happens just so they don’t think they’re broken.
If a father is somehow able to educate his own daughter about that without making it awkward, he would be a great dad. Must be difficult without a mother at that age.
Got my first period when I was 10. Luckily my mom educated me about it
My mom was 8 when she got her period and she got in when she was in school and she thought she was dying, because my grandmother never taught her. Thank God she taught me before I got my first period, and I knew exactly what was happening when I got it.

In simple words: Uterus is planning for a baby. It puts up cute elephant wallpaper, buys a cradle, and goes shopping. But then, uterus realises that it's not having a baby. Uterus goes apeshit. Uterus tears down wallpaper, and throws everything away. Uterus goes through this every god damn month.

+fenkinfe - I'd say it's more like the opposite. Uterus creates a mine-field obstacle course to weed out inferior babies. Floods a a dirt patch for mud, puts up chicken wire, fires shrapnel overhead, sets up a chute of burning tar for any babies who fail to finish the course. Babies fail course. Uterus throws babies out into burning tar pit. Uterus rebuilds the obstacle course every month until a worthy baby finishes the course.
I got my period when I was in 11. I'm 21 now, funny how our body gets used to such painful and messy thing. I don't remember periods being a significant thing in my life in the last 10 years but I've always gotten cramps, pimples, mood swings, bloating, constipation, fatigue and other symptoms every month for 10 years! Its like women are used to being sick and still going on with their normal lives.. so much respect.

I would want the support on the channel. But that's ok. As long as it help you. All period cramps are, is inflammation. So you need things with anti-inflammatory properties.

@Alexandra Adamczyk do you mean long term or like the duration of your period? cause periods last usually about 4-7 days but like during your whole life women that reach a certain age go through something called menopause which i believe when they stop getting their periods, not certain on thr details but you can do some research :)

@@kennethultimate02 The body preps for a baby every month. It also modifies itself to be more accomodtaing for the baby.( Hips widen, body stores up nutrients, etc). The egg even comes from the mother herself so its not a parasite, but instead a guest that the body prepares for. It's the woman's mind that simply thinks of it as a parasite sometimes
