  • In this lecture, Dr Mike explains what is happening in the ovary and uterus during the 28 day female reproductive cycles. He discusses the various phases: for ovarian this includes the follicular and luteal phases, and for the endometrial this includes menses (menstruation), the proliferative, and the secretory phases. Dr Mike also discusses the hormones, such as estrogen (oestrogen) and progesterone, and their respective roles in these cycles.

    What do you mean Hormones do not impact early Follicular Phase? Dont they have quite a significant impact on Follicule development and the initial production of Estrogen? Could you explain this? Is it a new finding or is it just a simplified explaination of what occurs?

    • @AyaMs-j4e
      @AyaMs-j4e 4 месяца назад +1

      Right I got confused when I heard it
      Cause in the another video say that the (fsh) and (LH) have effect in follicle phase

    • @colindowden2182
      @colindowden2182 2 месяца назад

      I think doc is stating that hormones like FSH do play a role but only have an impact as the follicular stage develops, i.e early stage fsh doesn't effect the follicular phase as much compared to the latter stage.

    According to Ninja Nerd and Dr Najeeb, FSH stimulates conversion of primary follicle to secondary follicle..... 8:50

    • @DrMattDrMike
      @DrMattDrMike  3 месяца назад +1

      The latest evidence does not suggest this. FSH will rescue follicles from atresia. Transition from primary to secondary follicles occur independently of hormones.

    Why does oestrogen spike up please

    • @betterChancefx
      @betterChancefx 4 месяца назад

      Estrogen spikes because.
      First of all, estrogen is produced by the follicle (specifically: granulosa sells of the follicle).
      So as the follicle grows, so does the production of estrogen also increase.
      But the surge in estrogen is specifically as a result of the positive feedback the DOMINANT FOLICLE sends to the pituitary to produce MORE fsh and LH.
      Remember;
      As the follicle grows, it consists of more than one folicle at the beginning of the cycle. But as time goes on, one of these follicles develops more fsh receptors than the others. And as soon as this happens, the follicle with the more FSH receptors sends negative feedback to the pituitary to produce less FSH and LH. So that the other follicles with less fsh receptors will regres and die off. Making only the one with more receptors to survive.
      Once it's left with only the follicle with more receptors, it then sends back positive feedback to the pituitary to release more fsh and LH.
      And this high fsh and LH causes the remaining folicle to develop more rapidly, causing more production of estrogen by the single remaining folicle. Which then leads to ovulation.
      I hope this was helpful
