  • In #DragonBall and #DragonBallSuper, there is something about the outcome and the way we get to places like the Buu Saga or the #TournamentofPower where things don't feel very engaging or special...or even exciting! Why is that? What is missing from Dragonball Super that even the likes of DBGT did well at? Well let's discuss that!

If you watched the TOP or the Moro arc, there is still very much tension. Much more than DBGT, everything began to feel stale because Goku kept beating every villain by himself and it was becoming predictable. In DBS, the only antagonist who Goku beat by himself was Golden Frieza, but he technically needed Whis to rewind time to do it.

    • @scorpioncox8978

@@jantheking7028 And with that last sentence, You just proved yourself wrong in the field of trying to say dbs has more tension than dbgt. In DBS, not only does everything take place before the end of Z, meaning every one will be fine by the end no matter what happens. Plus the two strongest beings in the z fighters universe in beerus and whis are practically by their side all the time and can wipe out the villian by themselves with ease if they wanted to. If that fails, Goku has a button that can summon the literal omni king and squish any problem out of existence. That among other reasons why dbs has far lower tension than dbgt or any other db series for that matter. In DBGT, that took place 5 years after the end of Z and there was no higher being to act as a safety net. GT was far morr unpredictable since no one knew how it would end unlike dbs

I cant even say it's the right thing when it was just done so poorly. I mean it came out of nowhere, Ultra Instinct for instance was explained and built up to for three whole arcs before it finally happened. We coulda gotten like one scene at the first use of them in GT with like one cracking or something. And then your statement about them being strong works but then not all of them were strong, and there were only 3 of them that were actually cool the rest were lame as hell and just not memorable at all.
Honestly thank god Super wont explore it. They need to focus on new things and not try to go back and repair problems that aren't actually there. We didn't even really need to see new namek or have the daikaioh come back in the manga these are just so off base with the style of Z and more like the fanfiction that Toyble writes like AF

I hadn't watched the series, only heard about and read some lore, but the laziness of them just swapping out the hair colors to differentiate SSJ forms took DB Super from "I haven't watched this yet but I've got it on my radar for the near future" to "I haven't watched this and I don't see any reason to do so".

@@thescribeinyellow3985 Blue Evolution at least had a satisfying debut and was good for Vegeta's character. Super Saiyan Blue by itself needed the same amount of finesse it got in the Broly movie for the entire series, if it was going to be a regular form like it was. I find it ironic because the forms that ascended past it seemed like they meant way more than the inital one. Blue Kaioken was a firm combination of old and new, and gave Kaioken meaning again. Blue Evolution was a big showing of Vegeta's development as a character, and gave Vegeta something that complimented his pride. I love SSJ4 as a transformation and it's definitely different in a good way. I just think that the form itself didn't represent the character's styles as much. Blue itself was too bland, but SSJ4 felt really outlandish and didn't lend itself as well to the other characters development. I do prefer how it was used more though, and it was much cooler than Blue as a transformation. I just prefer Blue Evolution Ultra Instinct and Blue Kaioken more from a character perspective. They just felt like they meant more to the characters involved.

There are trillions upon trillions of planets in the universe and considering how in DBZ we got to see like what, 4 different planets, there's no reason at all to expand the scope of Dragon Ball ***THAT*** much. It just creates further blocks and limits to the expansion of the series. DBGT operated at the level of a single galaxy, we got to see like 10 different planets, and it was more than enough. And many more could added withing the scope of the a single galaxy.
"Multiverse" is unnecessary, and an excuse for a lack of creativity too (I mean, why come up with lore and narratives for other completely different races when you can just say there are repetitions of sayans in "other universes.

We have over twelve Universes to explore, but here comes Jiren, who had to be the absolute strongest and the bestest non-mortal ever, because the TOP just had to be end all,of everything, when it didn’t need to be. 3. Golden Frieza was weaker than beerus, but his arc was after Beerus, proving your claim wrong
      4. The hell do you mean by "finality"? I don't understand it.
      5. DBS has so much potential, but the only way they can keep the end of Z as canon is if they do some annoying back-tracking at the eventual end of super

Honestly I'd like a villain to win. Like Hearts.. (and I know heroes sucks and whatnot) he's ideals were that Zeno is a childlike character that very easily destroys for fun and the destroyer gods entertain his desires and that needs to stop. And Goku hates him because he's friends with Zenny.
OR Bebi. Maybe show how his mind control works for the better of mankind and the saiyan (Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, etc) are the problem in a way.

I appreciate that GT actually played very well off the end of Z. Like when Vegeta had his moment when he said Goku was number one, that was reflected in GT. Vegeta‘s drive was to be better than Goku and when he released that, he found more good in his life, like spending time with Bulma and Bulla as well as being a solid father figure to Trunks. Goku never changed, that’s why he just went off to train more. He stood true to his drive to fight that’s why even in peace he trained for 7 years. Gohan wanted to be a scholar and after all the years of fighting, that’s what he did. He stopped training and settled down. Trunks and Goten were raised as children with powers and became functional teenagers, becoming more human in the process (as in they engaged in more human activities like dating and getting a job). While this unfortunately lead to the show being all about Goku, that is how things would progress. Vegeta wouldn’t strive to be better than Goku, but Goku would keep going. No one besides Goku enjoyed fighting at that point, that’s why Goku was the strongest and had to lead the charge. Overall, I like what GT did with characters because of how it transitioned from Z. It worked, it was true to their ending. It shows how the characters would respond to a lasting peace.

Too bad that in GT they didn´t make Goku extremely detached fromt the rest. Like, we know he's always away from training, but it would be cool for him to come back and everyone is living a peaceful life and they DON´T want to fight for fun anymore, leaving Goku alone. He would feel like a stranger, and that would lead to some interesting development. In the Cell Saga he gave a senzu bean to Cell just so that Cell could fight Gohan at full power, but in GT he would need to change that mentality.

I'm gonna list a few more how GT did better than DB Super:
    1. Consequences (In DB Super we know the Main Cast will survive because of EndOfZ)
    2. Many Villains (Opinions aside DB Super only has 1 or 2 [Zamasu & Copy Vegeta] for the record Goku Black is still Zamasu)
    3. Exploration/Adventuring (Original DB & Dragon Ball Z has it as well, DB Super completely lacks any Adventuring)
    4. Unique Forms/Designs (Can't deny that)
    5. It takes place After DBZ while DB Super is stuck in DBZ.

      1. We don't know what will happen to Beerus, Whis, Hit, or really any of the gods or other universes. And now we have Frieza, Lemo, Cheelai, and Broly to be concerned about.
      2. One great villain can be better than many bad ones (not trying to give favor to either, just saying it does not automatically make something good or bad), Beerus was a villain in BoG, Frieza has seen more growth since Z to better fit him into Super, and the ToP had multiple villains from Universe 4 which specifically targeted 7 to Frost and of course Jiren. Champa is also very much a villain in the U6 tournament, and we'll likely see Moro from the manga in time. We also got Barry and Watagash, but that was somewhat of a joke so I won't count him.
      3. True, Super is lacking, but the the next arc in the manga seems to be bringing back some adventure, and a few of the "filler arcs" have seen us going to new places at least.
      4. I would argue Ultra Instinct and SSG (regular) are at least as unique as SS4. God does change the person's design and gives them interesting and unique abilities.
      5. Also true, though I personally want to wait and see whether they'll change Z's ending or not given all that has happened in Super. This can apply to the 1st part too.

There was an allusion to consequences in an episode where Goku had
Delayed Onset Ki Disorder. Because he mixed Kaioken and SSB against Hit, Goku had gotten this briefly. King Kai warned Goku that if he continues being careless, this would become permanent. Before you know it Goku is using it again against Black then Jiren with no consequences.
What would have been a good follow up would have been after having MUI instead of Goku simply losing his power in the second to last episode, he gets
Delayed Onset Ki Disorder permanently. In the final episode, Goku manages to defeat Jiren (with 17 and Frieza) using some of his earliest martial arts moves (no ki, no SSJ).
Essentially the lasting consequences of Goku losing his ability to use Ki is he needs to start over from scratch. At the end of Super, he is a strong man with no Ki. Vegeta is the strongest on Earth, with Gohan in second.
In this scenarion, by the end of Z, he has regained at least SOME of his Ki (note that during the end of Z we never see him go SSJ so it's possible he hasn't reobtained the transformation). And honestly, we don't see adult Goku go SSJ in GT before being turned into a kid.

I LOVED the idea of the dragon balls becoming corrupted and the enemy. It makes perfect sense for how they were being used. Now, I will say, I never saw GT. Hell, I never saw all of the Buu arch. It's where I stopped watching. But I heard people have all these problems with GT and, for what I can tell, the problems came from changing too much. You can't have these Godlike powers corrupted and depower the main character at the same time. It cheapens the powers of the Dragons and creates inconsistency within the story as a whole.
This being said, I do refer back to my previous statement. I never saw GT, so I can't say what the true problem was. Out of what clips I saw, it could be that the creators just weren't treating these events with the gravity they should have, or it could have been something as simple as the theme song setting the mood for each episode. Suffice it to say, changes as substantial as the ones they tried to implement need to be handled with much more care than they were willing to give.

Its actually funny that you uploaded this video, Masako, I was just thinking about all of that after reading the latest DBS manga chapter and i kinda didnt even know where to vent lol.
Honestly, I wish Super would just pull a GT and get rid of the Dragon Balls somehow, I mean I know its in the name but it gets old and annoying at some point. They may as well just start grabbing those things out of the air like Goku did as a kid that one time but nobody ever bothered to do again. Also wait, on a side note : what would happen if you threw the DB's in the HPTC? (Or the ROSAT or whatever lmao.) They could probably just throw them in there for a day and really get abusing of their power lmao. Also GT did a lot better than Super tbh.

Honestly... with the power of hindsight I would have changed a lot of about everything past the cell saga. I like a lot of the ideas concepts, but the execution past then was sub-par. So much potential with some of the story ideas that the Buu saga, GT and even Super (This is probably my biggest reason for loving what if's so much for the Dragon Ball Universe).
Though the biggest thing I would change if I could right now is letting the next movie that is apparently coming be PAST the end of Z so that we can get something fresh that isn't limited by the Peaceful World Arc.

I know I’m late to the party but, I’d like to see the shadow dragons done better in DBS. It could work if you start the count from the end of the Cell Saga as technically this was a new set of Dragon Balls.

Is it weird that I like GT more than I like Super? Super's tournament arc actually pissed me off, just hated ultra instinct, got bored with the constant power ups, and worst of all, now they're introducing entirely new universes when they've barely even looked at the one their in. There has to be more to the universe than the Freiza empire, New Namek, Fake Namek, Earth, and the 2 or 3 other planets that have been shown, and yet now there are entire new planes of existence to explore?

Speaking of consequences, I wonder what a "Groundhog Day" like story would look like in Dragon Ball, in a menacing tone instead of just comedic. The idea being that after each "resetting" someone is missing for some reason and only the protagonist is aware they even existed.
Hmmm... it could be a bad guy doing it, or it could be an injured character going through events in a coma...

Consequences and steaks make for good character development, strong story narrative‘s, and help move The series along. The reader or the watcher needs to feel like the story has depth and direction. GT may have struggled with making the landing on many concepts but it certainly gave it a better shot than super did. Instead of the Dragon balls being way to get out of the worst situations, they are the catalyst of the challenges facing the heroes.

I thought the Dragon Balls being corrupted was actually a good arc, at least in concept. The evil Shenrons were decent for villains that probably won't return again and it did give some consequence on the over-reliance on Dragon Balls without making them persona non grata.

    with all the games having future trunks as some kinda time cop, i thought the anime missed a really good opportunity to make a reference to that. i mean look at all the setup they had available to link the world;
trunks became a kai, lost his own universal timeline, and felt he couldnt stay in our main timeline becoming homeless. the kai's were offering him solutions. one of those solutions could have easily been a reference to the supreme kai of time.

Gt fans: like the vibe from z, enjoy stories with tension and consequences, prefer actual plot heavy writing over powers, fighting, and explosions.
Super fans: enjoy the most basic shonen imaginable, prefer quick dopamine hype moments over good storytelling, gets hype at all 8 of the new transformations (I counted seriously 8 transformations?!?!) , still talks about power levels in 2022, and likes explosions and pointless fighting.

My guess is as to why people don't care about the "consequences" of the Goku Black Saga is because it doesn't feel as one. Trunks universe ends but they give him a new one that is the same, so is like if it was restored and nobody cared. It would've been more impactful if they showed that different time line or didn't pull that off and just made him stay in the current timeline. Hell, that would be also a step to the Tournament of Power to feel like it had consequences, if he participated, everybody would be "Oh hey, we can restore Trunks timeline or restore the other universes"

Now here is something I wish we could see, either dragon balls being made in other world *could be possible if you think about it*
As well as to see the namek and namekians from the other universes.
Like the planet in universe 6,
as well as the possible ones from other universes cause we know Yardrats and Tuffles do exist naturally in Universe 2.
So while the universes are sister universe, it doesn't mean the same races don't exist in other ones aswell.
For Instance, the possible Saiyans of Universe 2 could easily be more Monkey like *More body hair, more flamboyant, more natural colors, etc*

eh... while the spirit of stands holds up to what you said, it was a soft-reboot that is slightly less "casual", the stats literally mean absolutely nothing and don't make any sense. Hol Horse has an E in precision, despite being able to move his bullets in mid air fast enough to avoid Silver Chariots swords, despite being able to shoot and navigate his bullets down a pipe, despite his stand in general just being ABOUT accuracy.

    • @dontmisunderstand6041
      @dontmisunderstand6041 5 лет назад

They're comparative measures. The Emperor can navigate through a pipe, Star Platinum can effectively perform minor brain surgery without disrupting normal brain activity. It should be very plain which one deserves a higher rating on the precision scale, and Star Platinum does in fact rate more highly in that category.

There should be a saga about total destruction of the Dragon Balls and our heroes to rebuild them and gather them them all in a Infinity Stones style type of long storytelling. With a lot of fighting and sacrifices made along the way. Maybe in the end it is a wish everyone back to life or something but at least we had some consecuences for a couple of years.

I hear you regarding GT Masako, but I must strongly disagree. I may be the only one on this, at least it feels like it, but for me GT was great (and is still me favorite DB show) because I think what it did, worked. Alot of people who don't outright hate it but found it disappointing, say like you, that it had a lot of missed potential. I don't see all of this missed potential you speak of. I see a show that worked. A show that had a lot of great ideas, and executed them well. To this day, I have yet to hear a reasonable argument for the opposite.

    • @diarawisteria2218
      @diarawisteria2218 5 лет назад

There are plenty of reasonable arguments against how GT played out, particularly in regards to pacing. The Black Star Dragonballs Saga and the Shadow Dragons Saga are particularly infamous in that regard, although there are some interesting things about how the production of those two Sagas went down.
But at the very least, GT is decent.
