"Just because you have a large aquarium doesn't mean you have to stock it with large fish." 100%!! To me, a large school of tetras in a six foot planted tank is about as stunning as you can get. It's also closer to what you'd actually see in the wild. Well done! I look forward to seeing this tank mature and fill in.

Gonna have to sort of disagree. Can lots of nano fish in a very large tank make for a good display? I guess so. Is it the best way to go? Not really, in my opinion.
I've kept CPDs in a 35-gallon planted tank. Wasn't really worth it visually or financially. Besides not schooling, their colors don't pop in an aquarium meant to be viewed from across a room. Visually, they just don't scale well.
How many tetras and kuhlis did Jason put in this tank? And they all just went into hiding or or hung out in the corner, right? He might have a nice-looking tank, but it's the hardscape and plants doing the heavy lifting.
If it were my project, in a tank this size, I would have gone with fish at least molly or giant danio size.

There's not many big fish that I like so when I see a big tank, It always makes me want a big tank full of small fish and shrimp, so I love this tank. looks super good and all the space gives the fish much more room to show their natural behaviors.

I love the idea of a huge tank full of tiny fish. I also prefer smaller fish (no bigger than 6 inches) for my tanks regardless of tank size cuz you can fit more fish lol. My future plans involve just having three or four 125+ gallon tanks : 1 for regular community fish that grow no larger than 6 inches, 1 for nanos, 1 for African cichlids, and 1 for a couple oscars.

BIG FISH are very costly to feed.. Where small fish will eat very small flakes that are cheap... Also big fish require massive filtration to keep the water clean.. Electricity costs are also high to run big filter pumps... Small fish are great for those who are on a budget.

If I were ever able to get a 125 I would most likely do a nano community set-up. I just like the variety you can do and the smaller species are just cute. Part of me is a little creeped out by the larger breeds. Beautiful to see in other people's tanks but not sure I would want to work with them myself. Though I may one day want to try the smaller cichlids too.

Hi Jason - I love your videos!! I have a 40 gallon aquascape that's heavily planted. It's been running for a month now. I thought my tank was cycled. Testing showed 0PPM Amonia, 0PPM Nitrite and .25 of Nitrate. I'm running a Biomaster 350 (Thermo). Last Friday I added 8 Celestial Pearl Danios and 6 Amano Shrimp (drip aclaimation). I wish I'd watched your video on adding fish first - ugh. Saturday morning I woke up to .50 PPM Amonia. I did a 50% water change, added a double dose of prime and 2 oz of TurboStart. All 8 of the CPD's died by Saturday night. The fish seemed very young - I'm not a beginner. My question is - is my BioMaster 350 too much flow for these tiny Nano Fish? I'd welcome your insights .... I'm so sad.

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  8 месяцев назад

I don’t think so if the tank is heavily planted they should have places to go to get out of the flow. Generally speaking they prefer calmer water though.

  • @Laura-ed5kf

Are you going to add shrimp? I’m apparently converting my 90G-goldfish to a 90G-nano tank. Goldfish had to be moved-out, now it only has 11-guppies/tetras, a bristlenose, & 4-SAEs. At some point, a duckweed-dump from the shrimp tank included a shrimp who evaded the goldfish. Now I have scores of shrimp & just one particularly fat tetra.
I think as the tetras and guppies age-out, I’ll get even smaller nano-fish, but I’m loving my nano-fish tank.

Where I live the tank size is limited to 10 gallons. I cheat and have a 15 , all nano fish, so seeing this is what I wish I could do. I like it. My scape is a rock wall , with caves and holes, placed against plexiglass which is placed against the rear glass first, so as not to scratch the real panel with rocks. Fairly heavy with plants. Besides the benefits, unless fish dictate otherwise, no tank is complete without plants. I'll be watching for the addition of more fish.

But... Jason! Please check out the masters series videos by Filipe Oliveira on green aqua channel. He is the type of person, similar to ratatouille of "everyone can cook" and explaining that sentiment in terms of aquascaping. He will call anyone from the crowd to plant the tank with him and it's just something where it will give you that mentor experience and comfort for that next challenge. Don't be afraid of it. Nike it. Just do it.

Love it! I've been considering a large tank full of nano fish 😊 I have a 75 that I need to reset and this is giving me ideas

What a great idea. It’s kind of a dream concept tank. Nice scape

A bit early IMHO to add fish. I like to at least let the bubbles leave the water column, 48 hours or so. The tetra looks so sad hiding in the corner. The wood looks like upside-down roots. I know the big name aquascapers inspired this tank, it just does not do it for me. (like anyone cares) I have loved your channel over the last couple of years, so thanks for that. This build just leaves me feeling empty.

Love watching your new studio and aquascapes come together. Where do you get the red sand and the pebbles?
