The 2013 Daytona 500 makes me worried about how the NextGen cars may race during their first superspeedway race of the season. Hopefully the amazing superspeedway package from the end of the Gen 6 car will carry over somewhat to the new cars.

Unfortunately plate races will probably suck for the forseeable future, similar to the start of the gen 6 era. Until NASCAR finds something that strikes a balance between competitive racing and safety, it's probably going to be ugly. 1.5s are just going to be awful period moving forward since the top brass seem to have decided that low power, high downforce, lots of close cars but no chance at passing outside of restarts is what they like to see.

2016 Coke 600 was actually a great race, even though Truex dominated the whole thing. There was also plenty of racing in the top 5 (besides the lead, of course) and there were only 4 cautions, which only fueled Truex's dominating performance.
2021 Daytona 500 was also very good. Yes a massive wreck early led to plenty of single file racing but the finish was just as exciting as well, especially with an underdog winning it.

I disagree with the 2020 Kansas II race. It was a solid race but the finish was not good at all. There were worse races in the Gen6 era.
Also, I hate that the Coke 600 got neutered by the stages. That race in 2007, 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2015 all had interesting strategies with no stages and were fun. After that, the race was just not the same.
Also the 2016 Indy race was far, far worse than the 2015 race. 2016 had barely any action and then didn't want to end because of all of the wrecks that drew out the race to its foregone conclusion of Kyle Busch winning.
Texas should be on here a couple of times. The 2019 Spring Martinsville race should also be on here.

how did 2015 Fall Phoenix not make the list? the start was Delayed due to rain, when the race did get started, there was controversy. Kurt Busch got Penalized after Jimmie Johnson spun his tires. kurt has to go a lap down in a race where hes fighting for final 4 contention. after a long and boring Green flag run, where harvick leads 143 of 149 Green flag laps, with those 6 laps lost during pit cycles, a caution comes out for stenhouse and the 32. as this happened during green flag pit stops, Dale Jr was in the pits when the caution came out, and harvick pitted before, making Jr. the leader. they then run 23 laps under caution, over *23* miles under caution, it starts raining, and they call the race, and Jr wins. adding insult to injury, This was the cutoff race, meaning the 4 drivers who got eliminated had no way of trying to win

My least favorite things about it was it was extremely fragile and just light contact ruined the aero and it had so much sideforce it was completely glued to the track, and they couldn't ever find an aero package that truly worked at every track...some tracks like Bristol, Darlington, Martinsville are package agnostic and they could run anything and put on a great race, while others can put on a great race only if the tires wear and others like Dover and Richmond can't put on a good race no matter what package used.

I remember falling asleep watching the 2021 daytona 500 in stage 2.
Then I woke up with 12 laps to go on stage 3. Hopefully the 2022 500 will be good.

A race I was excited for but was hugely disappointed in was 2021 COTA. NASCAR made a bad choice to call ending the race for rain when they ran in the rain all day. I hope next year it’s dry and they can put on a show.

Where is the 2018 fall Talladega race? It was literally just the 2000 Daytona 500 but at Talladega and with a good overtime finish tacked onto the end. Take away the overtime finish and end the race under caution and you get the 2000 Daytona 500 exactly.

The 2021 Daytona 500 was the first ever Nascar race Ive ever watched. Im from across the pond (europe) so cover is near-impossible to find.
I feel i got robbed with the rain comming down because i was enjoying the exitence of cardboard Michael walltrip doing the gridwalk, the "put it out" thing and seeing nascars race for the first time after seeing random videos and having played Nascar 08.
Will deffinatly try to watch the 2022 edition and hopefully it will be more than just 13 laps

@@SlickBillByron that's not the problem. When the caution at lap 13 came out, that's where it took longer than it was worth it for. There's over 6 hours of timezone difference between Daytona and the West of europe so this was always a short watch

You know, it's kinda funny that the 2013 Daytona 500 was #1 on this list. Denny Hamlin was fined by Nascar for talking about how poor the Gen 6 car was at the start. The first race was that 500.

  • @Tylnorton

The 2016 600 and 2013 Texas fall races were not bad. You cannot say a race was bad because of driver dominance when the rest of the field had action. Also the 2019 spring Michigan was one of the worst race I have ever seen because it was a full on pack racing and faster cars couldn't pass Logano for the lead.

  • @evanwilliams6406

The downforce and spoiler packages made the races way too controlled and restrictive, and the winner of those races doesn't feel like he won it, he won it because he was out front the longest. In the 2013 Daytona 500, I was happy for it to be over because there was no passing at all and no one dared to make a run. Jimmie would have dogmeat had they not waited so long and actually had a plan instead of the last lap.

I’m surprised the 2020 Fall Texas race didn’t make it on here. If I remember correctly, they were gonna race on Sunday, however rain from I think the hurricane south of them hit so postponed to the next day, Monday, rain, postponed again, Tuesday they were able to get it in. But at that time, they could have gone to Martinsville, done that race, come back mid week and finish Texas and then got to PIR. I’m not saying Kyle Busch winning that race made it bad, I’m saying how Nascar handled that weekend, holding everyone hostage just to finish the damn race
Also you’re so right about the 2021 Daytona500 which brings to mind a better rain day policy that needs to happen!
If it rains before halfway, a 2hr window starts, if the rain doesn’t end in that 2hr window, postpone the race to the next day and allow for everyone to go on their merry way.
If it’s past halfway, a 1hr window, can’t get the race going after it? ITS OFFICIAL!
Unless they bring in some of the older drivers to tell stories again like they used to on FOX during red flags or do some funny stuff, then that rainy day policy I typed out, should be the way to go!

i went to the 2015 talladega fall race. it was the first ever cup race i went to, 2nd overall, and it was at my home track. i had a blast. mostly cuz at the time, i had no clue what was going on, and it just entertained me. now, with more understanding of the finish, i feel like it was one of the worst. maybe not top 10, but still pretty bad.

The worst gen 6 race was the year Kyle won (2019 I think) at auto club. It was single file most of the race besides restarts. High HP high downforce. You couldn’t even side draft then. Fans were leaving with 15 to go
We were in our car before the race ended and had turned on MRN and the finishing order hadn’t changed.
