The gen 6 wasn’t as bad as people say it is, it brought brand manufacturing back into nascar considering every car looked exactly the same during the cot era
Yeah. I guess the CoT gets nostalgia points these days, but when those Gen 6 cars first came out, they looked sooooo sleek and awesome relative to what came before.
The 2020 Summer Talladega race shot have been on this list. That race was a great example of how nascar races can be great without being a wreck fest and it had a photo finish.
My Number 1 would be the 2017 Brickyard 400. This gave me a whole mix of emotions. From MTJ and Kyle Busch wrecking each other, Bayne almost winning, 3 wide battle for the lead which lead to Johnson spinning, and of course… Kasey Kahne getting his final win of his career. He was my favorite driver of all time and I was crying tears of Joy when he won.
Man, Kahne gave it everything he had that race. I remember him saying in an interview last year that he doesn’t even remember the end of the race because his body was so dehydrated and beaten up. In that same interview, he said that he felt the best he had in years, so there’s always been that small sliver of hope for me that Kahne eventually gets another shot in the Cup Series, but that ship has probably sailed.
@@llLittleNicky Keselowski was probably the 3rd best driver of the 2010s behind KB and Harvick, and 2014 was his best season other than his championship
Chicagoland was a gem we didn't really take advantage of. Bowman's 1st win, "Slide Job", the 2014 race, and a few others were actually fairly entertaining. Kind of a shame the sport let it go.
2013 Aaron’s 499 was something special. Hard racing throughout, strategy being interesting in more ways than 2/4 tires, Kurt Busch going up and over, and Front Row Motorsports working together to win along with an exciting commentary booth.
The 2018 Roval race was great, but there’s a lot you missed. The battle between Larson and keselowski that ended up in a huge pileup, the very close points battle that ended up in a three way tie, and how Larson barely snuck in to the round of 12.
I would put the 2019 1000Bulbs 500 at Talladega and last years Bristol night race where Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch had a dog fight nearly half the race
I feel as though the praise for the 2014 package is very recent. I wasn’t around nascar in 2014 to gauge reactions to the racing, but I would imagine that the package back then wasn’t as loved as it is now. Seems like people really love it now because of the 550 package which makes people wish for the days of high horsepower. I mean 2013 was almost the exact same package but isn’t really considered to be all that memorable
@@ianperry9598 I think people loved the year so much because it was the last year where NASCAR really felt like NASCAR with a lot of the big stars doing well and high speeds. Not to mention, the outrage for the Playoffs format and the fatigue from it hadn't settled in yet, like it did in 2015 when there were the same stars but a totally different year.
I was at the 2013 Auto Club Speedway race. Having been there several years prior, when they went three-wide for the lead with a few laps to go, that was the first time I'd ever heard the crowd roar. I remember thinking "Oh dang, am I actually about to witness something big, here?" The finish delivered, indeed. Too bad a few middle fingers got in the way of my camera shot.
i was lucky enough to attend the 2018 chicagoland race and from my perspective and overall experience, it was AMAZING! great racing throughout the entire race, and one of the greatest finishes ever to top it all off.
I was sitting down in turn 1 at the 2018 Chicagoland race. The last lap battle between Larson & Busch was absolutely amazing. Although I was disappointed with who won the race, it is still one of the most entertaining races I have ever been to. It's races like this that REALLY make me wish Nascar & Illinois would bring the sport back to Joliet.

My #1 would be the 2015 Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500. I may be a little bit biased, but it also was one of the few races I actually got to go to, and I really had fun being at Martinsville. The hot dogs are awesome, the racing was great, and it also adds a lot whenever you get to see your favorite driver's final win in person. Like, even if Jeff Gordon was able to win in Homestead and win the championship, that truly felt like his send-off win.
In my opinion the 2019 Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas is way underrated. It was one of the first races (or even the first) with the high downforce package which lead to close racing all day long. There were many lead chanes iirc, and the finish between the 2 Penske cars was great as well
People talk about how bad 550 is too, yet this season, the only bad (below average) races were Atlanta, which even still had a couple good moments, and Daytona 500, which was only because of the big one on lap 14

I don't know about the rest of your list but number 1 was right! That race really did define racing in the Gen 6 cars era. And who would have thought that the 3 people involved in it, Dale Jr, Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson, would be the 3 most Impactful drivers of that Era. Dale Earnhardt Jr., the most popular NASCAR driver in history makes his debut as a commentator in this race. Kyle Busch, the sports most polarizing driver was in the middle of his NASCAR domination run between 2015 to 2019. And Kyle Larson's Rise, fall and Rise again in the that Era. I think the Gen 6 was pretty good. There were some snoozers and some controversial ones, but I think there’s been plenty of great races the last few years especially.
I agree the last few years is what Nascar is I love watching people be competitive and I also do love when it comes to the point where sometimes people get wrecked wether intentional or not I have good hope for Nascar future at this point seems like racing has been steadily getting better again
Gen 6 was a very 50-50 car imo You had absolutely amazing races like at Bristol, Martinsville & Kansas & Then there was tracks like Texas, Pocono & Dover
Kinda sad I never got to go to a Gen 6 race in person the closest I´ve been was in in 2019 before the Atlanta race when I was on the highway and I saw a billboard. I´d like to go to a race some time in the close future (Edit: I went to the 2022 Atlanta Summer Race)
The old gen 6 car wasn't perfect but I miss it so bad. It seems being a NASCAR fan is to be constantly disappointed and every new thing is worse than the previous.
Some of my favorite races are the 2013 Kobalt Tools 400, 2013 Kansas Lottery 400, 2013 Southern 500, 2013 Quaker State 400, 2013 Bristol Night Race, 2013 Geico 400, 2013 Sylvania 300, 2015 Food City 500, 2015 Windows 10 400, 2015 Pure Michigan 400, 2015 Federated Auto Parts 400, 2015 Sylvania 300, 2016 AAA 400, 2016 New Hampshire 301, and 2017 Can-Am 500.
One of my eternal favorites, is the 2017 Alabama 500. That's what i call "a showdown". And in my opinion, that race was when Dale Jr. actually retired in honor.
My opinion, any race from 2013-2016 can be in the top 10. 2017-2021 should be excluded since it’s when stage racing and the stupid packages were added. 2016 was the last season of old NASCAR
2019 Bank of America Roval 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This was the race where Chase Elliott did his famous burnout into the turn one wall. Very memorable race and moment. He crashed into the same wall earlier in the race but he still amazingly came back to win. Also the 2018 Go Bowling at the Glen. That was Chase Elliott’s first win. The final laps were intense and the racing throughout the race was amazing overall too. Finally there is the 2019 Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. Great race as well and the finish helped cap it off. This was the battle of the Bush brothers. (My opinion of course as I am an Elliott fan.)
Honorable Mentions (In my opinion): 2013 Aaron's 499. After rain pouring down days prior, qualifying being rained out, and a three hour delay (due to said rain), it seemed that the race would be lackluster. Luckily, three drivers would battle it out for 98% of the race - Pole Sitter Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, and Matt Kenseth. However, when Michael McDowell in the #98 car hit the outside wall, a late-race restart with 10 to go would make things interesting. Coming to the restart were a bunch of mid-pack and backmarker teams and drivers (Including Regan Smith for Phoenix Racing, Scott Speed for Leavine Family Racing, David Stremme for Swan Racing, Dave Blaney for Tommy Baldwin Racing, and more). Sitting 14th and 15th on the restart, though, would be Front Row Motorsports teammates David Ragan and David Gilliland, with Ragan qualifying 19th and Gilliland qualifying 31st. In a shocking turn of events, both teammates would charge through the field and make it to the checkered flag for the FRM's first 1-2 finish with Ragan winning and Gilliland finishing 2nd. Pole Sitter Carl Edwards would finish 3rd, Michael Waltrip would finish 4th, and eventual champion Jimmie Johnson would round out the Top 5 in 5th. 2019 Toyota/Save-Mart 350. This was the last race of Darrell Waltrip as a commentator and saying "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity! Let's Go Racin', Boys!" During practice and qualifying, MTJ and Kyle Larson would battle for the Pole, with Larson prevailing over MTJ, who ended up starting 8th. This involved Stage Racing, which gave point to the Top 10 finishers of each stage. With MTJ not being much of a factor in the first two stages, this allowed the Hendrick Motorsports #24 Chevy of William Byron and the Joe Gibbs Racing #11 Toyota of Denny Hamlin to battle it out with Byron taking Stage 1 and Hamlin taking Stage 2. However, MTJ would charge through the field in the Final Stage, proving him to be the "Sonoma Road Ringer" on route to a 3rd victory and his 2nd in a row at the track. Another big story, however, would be Matt DiBenedetto finishing 4th with Leavine Family Racing. After leading the Daytona 500 for over 40 laps (before being caught up in the Big One), he drove a Darrell Waltrip paint scheme on the car for D.W.'s last race commentating. After qualifying 19th, he was quietly inside the Top 15 and Top 20. However, just like MTJ did in the race, he charged through the field. DiBenedetto would pass multiple veterans who had much more experience on road course and racing in general, like Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer, Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Newman, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski.
WoW I forgot about that crazy drift by Larson at Chicagoland. Me and probably most Nascar fans were rooting like crazy for Larson to actually finish ahead of Busch, just like all the other times Larson had a great long run car and would come from behind.
I think two of the most important races of this era were the 2020 championship race, since it was the start of the new "era" of drivers with Johnson retiring and Chase Elliot taking the torch. The second important race is the 2016 Coca Cola 600, seeing as how it shows that even with the current era of drivers, historic records could still be bested

2013 Daytona 500 and at Dover fall 2013 with Jimmie’s victory, the 2018 Roval with Johnson battling Truex
2021 Season Finale 500 with Kyle L’s victory
Kyle Busch makes a point about that kind of racing beating and banging is what makes Nascar unique compared to other motorsports
Kinda sad I never got to go to a Gen 6 race in person the closest I´ve been was in in 2019 before the Atlanta race when I was on the highway and I saw a billboard. I´d like to go to a race some time in the close future
(Edit: I went to the 2022 Atlanta Summer Race)
ill never understand how u made this video lol there were so many great gen 6 races, idek how it could come down to 10
The old gen 6 car wasn't perfect but I miss it so bad. It seems being a NASCAR fan is to be constantly disappointed and every new thing is worse than the previous.
I was at the 2019 Bristol night race! Loved every second of it
when hamlin won that bristol race I was so mad. Out of anybody who took his win away it had to be hamlin
2018 Martinsville, it was good old fashion hard racing, with a few tempers flaring
#1 2021 Daytona 500.
Michael McDowell W
This year's 500 was heavily affected by that big wreck on lap 14. If that wreck never happened, it things would've been different.
I agree, the racing all through Speedweek was great and it continued till that wreck. What could’ve been
@@TheIceberg facts man but your list is justified. Good person interacting with the community 🤝
The Gen 6 was amazing! I’ll miss it
Hey iceberg can you do the same thing with the COT?
I think the two best races of this era was the 2014 Richmond night race and the 2014 Chicagoland race. Do I really need to say more?
My opinion, any race from 2013-2016 can be in the top 10. 2017-2021 should be excluded since it’s when stage racing and the stupid packages were added. 2016 was the last season of old NASCAR
Lol, my first ever nascar race I went to live was the 2018 Overtons 500. It was a solid race than and now.
My #1: the fall talladega race 2020. I was at the race and I saw the big one right in front of me. It’s was great and it had a epic photo finish
My hands down number 1 is the 2019 fall Talladega race.
As long as this list included THAT Fontana race, I would be happy
The Busch brothers duel at Kentucky was definitely left off I feel. One of the best finishes of all time in my opinion.
I was at the 2019 spring Kansas race. The big crash was insane, easily the worst crash I've seen going to races.
Honorable Mentions (In my opinion):
2013 Aaron's 499.
Let's Go Racin', Boys!"
During practice and qualifying, MTJ and Kyle Larson would battle for the Pole, with Larson prevailing over MTJ, who ended up starting 8th.
Made me so happy to see NH on here🥰
WoW I forgot about that crazy drift by Larson at Chicagoland. Me and probably most Nascar fans were rooting like crazy for Larson to actually finish ahead of Busch, just like all the other times Larson had a great long run car and would come from behind.
Larson took the Credit One Bank, one to go to a new level at Chicagoland 😂
I think two of the most important races of this era were the 2020 championship race, since it was the start of the new "era" of drivers with Johnson retiring and Chase Elliot taking the torch. The second important race is the 2016 Coca Cola 600, seeing as how it shows that even with the current era of drivers, historic records could still be bested
My favorite gen 6 races took place in dover. 2016 spring with 46 to go Jimmie Johnson misses a shift and collects 17 other cars
2016-18 Daytona 500 were good imo

2. 2015 Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500
1. 2019 1000Bulbs 500
I liked the gen 6 cars. It was the stage racing taking a lot of the pit strategy out of the sport that made race day less interesting to me.
Man I sure loved the 2019 bad pro shops/nra night race at Bristol
2018 martinsville playoffs race was crazy
Glad to say I was at the best Gen 6 Race as my first event. Chicagoland is just built different
Great list, Iceberg. However, how can you not put the 2014 Chicagoland race in there? Peak Gen 6 racing from start to finish with commers and goers and little gimmicks
Who noticed in the 2013 Auto Club 400 that it said on the top "Winner:Joey Logano"even though Kyle Busch won
My favorite was the 2019 Geico 500 which was the first race of the current highly popular SuperSpeedway package
2014 Texas was an insane race.
The inaugural is the best race I've ever watched. Start to finish it was amazing. I'd put it number one and I'd take superspeedways off the list, but other than that great list.
My Top 10
10. 2015 Martinsville fall race
9. 2018 martinsville fall race
8. 2014 Daytona 500
