- The fantastic team at @FlyByWireSim have added CPDLC - Controller Pilot Datalink Communication - to the A32NX mod for Microsoft Flight Simulator! In this video, we will take a look at how to set it up in the sim and a few example use-cases.
Super useful for VATSIM or IVAO flying!

So an interesting side effect of this is that if you're flying with default ATC (or no ATC) and not connected to VATSIM, you can still get ATIS information.
You've been able to do that for quite a while now 🙂

a remote notification happened to me a few days ago in KLAX; shortly after being connected to VATSIM via vPilot I got the clearance automatically via personal mail from the controller
Sounds about right! They do that quite often in the US.

Looks like a nice addition to IVAO and Vatsim. Now if only it was implemented in MSFS ATC for this of us that don’t use human controllers. Problem is I can’t even get a clearance from the lousy MSFS ATC these days anyway. Hardly worth using ATC at all. Typically, I just request a VFR landing clearance and hope Simbrief gave me the right arrival runway.
You can ask the default to a runway change if you are not happy with the one assigned.
@@flightsimtoday I do do reassignment requests at times, but I’m obstinate if it’s not what I’ve programmed. I don’t care for go-arounds and changing from anything other than L to R means I’m coming in hot with permission or not. It’s why I stay out of Vatsim, for the good of the serious community and purists. I have no problem with serious crosswind landings that IRL would require ATC reassignment.
That would be quite cool but also I imagine probably very difficult to implement! I don't know if the sim exposes the in-game ATC in a way that devs can access. Maybe in the future?!
@@BobbyFuzzy I’m seriously hoping that the “surprise” Asobo is touting for later this year is an entirely new and exciting ATC system. Honestly, the one in FS2000 was better than what we have now.
We shall see, personally I never use it but obviously would be great for the majority that do!
I prefer to use voice, however, the CPDLC has been something I wanted since sometimes ATC asks you to use it.
It’s nice to have that’s for sure! CPDLC is also mandatory in Europe above FL285 so nice to be able to simulate that.

Cpdlc is not an alternative to voice. It's a supplement. Always monitor the frequency when on cpdlc

Avoiding crowds yes definitely! IRL probably way more beneficial, in the sim world maybe not so much. Helpful for me when I’m streaming though as I never mishear anything from me talking to chat 😂

Hi! We have DCDU on some of our planes but I don’t know how to use it, how can I pick up an ATIS on it?

In my experience I don't believe you can pick up an ATIS this way - at least not on VATSIM.

It is but it just reskins the default - it's called Arex Europe there's different versions for different regions, too!
Hai, I use the development version (V0.8.1) from FBW and I have and Acars acocount. CPDLC however is not running. The option datalink transmission time in the realism tab and the Hoppie ACARS conebt in the radio tab don't show. Any idea?
0.8.1 is the latest STABLE version, you need either the development or experimental versions to see the options for CPDLC 🙂

Good question! I would say that is a sensible idea yes.
I have yet to make the jump from the default ATC (I know it's pretty bad). Is there any point to this if I remain? Or if I go with something like Pilot2ATC VS Vatsim?
It's your sim and if you are happy with the default stick with it. You will get better performance out of the default but not as close to procedural as FBW.
What you see in this video will only work on Vatsim and not Pilot2ATC. I have been using Pilot2ATC over the last few days and it's pretty nice.
Shame it cant interact with AI Traffic.
No I don't believe CPDLC will work with the built-in or Pilot2ATC. Hopefully they will make it work with the in-built ATC in the future!
I cant type in Atc Code despite it is avalible on vatsim. Dont work either in fenix og flybywire.
Hoppie have been having some issues since the launch of the Fenix. Best to have a word with the controller make make sure everything is running OK on their end.
had the same issue today as well. The Identifier disappeared in the scratchpad but didn´t show up in the Station Name. Resolved it by entering another field (like ATIS or Gate) and it popped up at the same time...

I don't want to sound rude or ungrateful, but how about fixing the TOD and Autopilot features first; and secondary systems like the one above at a later stage.
Well unfortunately that is how you sound. This is a project worked on by volunteers in their free time for no compensation. It’s up to them what they work on and when.
The project is open source for anyone to work on, if you want that stuff done first then you are welcome to have a go at it yourself! 🙄
FBW has multiple teams working on multiple projects simultaneously. One team completing this project does not in any way slow down or impede development of TOD, VNAV or anything else.
