      My trial just ended but it's looking like I will not renew it. I do not have an extra sim from my cell provider. I think I'll continue to use my phone, no hotspot. I prefer the programming on Sirius so I use that over Spotify or Pandora. I don't use games but I haven't taken a more than 2-hour road trip yet. For navigation I use the voice on Waze but keep the map up for Tesla navigation and turn off the voice for Tesla nav. That allows me to set the waypoints for superchargers if I need it and I get the preconditioning, but I trust the directions more on Waze than I do on Tesla nav to get me around traffic. My phone connects as soon as I get in the car, so it's been seamless so far.

      @@tonyn3227I agree with you. It’s also cheap if the usage is unlimited for video and audio. If I set up a hotspot from my phone and pay for the data, I will pay at least double per month for the extra data usage. Sometimes the hotspot is not activated 'fast' enough for my M3 before the wifi switches itself off. Not sure why the M3 does that. The only way hotspot works guaranteed each time is if I switch on the hotspot manually before I enter the car.

    Never used Spotify and don't need it. I do enough streaming at home on my PC, so don't need that. Be nice if the graphics maps were part of the standard, I would get more use out of them. and last I would never use the app for live sentry viewing.
    Is it worth 10 dollars a month, I will figure that out when my trial period ends after 30 days now in 2023.

    • @dathyr1

      Got my EV and my premium trial did end. I decided to stay with just the standard connectivity. I am retired, just drive around town, and only do home charging. I use just the FM radio while I drive.
      All the rest of the premium features are nice, but I do not need or use them on my daily driving. Though, I can use the premium items when connected to my home WIFI and does not cost me anything - i have a home PC where I do all my streaming, internet stuff.
      The graphical maps do not come up at all even on my home WIFI.
      Anyway, I like just using the standard connectivity. It is up to you in what your driving needs are. it is not a cost issue, but I just don't use most of the premium items.
      Take care.

    Wait, wait, wait.
    Isn't there an existing router/modem installed in the car that uses a SIM card?!
    How is tesla connecting to the internet?
    If i buy a tesla i want to go there and remove the tesla sim card and install my own sim card from my service provider. I have in my current car android nav system with sim card and my monthy cost with the sim car is just 1 euro, full coverage, perfect. So I would like to think i can use in the tesla as well. If not, that's a deal killer.
    I've read on some forums there is such a thing under the dashboard and you just need to go there, pop out the existing one and put in your sim

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  Год назад

      There is an existing modem for the sim ccard built into the car. But replacing the sim card doesn't mean the same thing as getting premium connectivity. The car is still connected to the internet without premium connectivity but with limited functionality. The functionality is unlocked in the software when buy the premium connectivity. So only replaceing the sim won't help.

      Thank you for kind reply.
      So, there is a way to replace the tesla sim card and not buy a separate device that would take up space and connections. Phew, at least that is still there
      For me in particular, already having a great deal on a dataplan, that i use in my current car, is something to cringe with the tesla subscription (i do want to buy an EV, and as much as i try and find any other option, a tesla car is the winner (no wonder their sales))
      But for others, a 10 euro/month is a normal value vodafone/orange/others are charging for a new subscription.
      Had i not negotiated to receive this one with vodafone, maybe i would opt for the tesla plan.
      Who knows,
      Once again thank you, best regards

    • @ItsOnlyElectric
      @ItsOnlyElectric  Год назад +1

      @@roberts.wilson1848 maybe I was a bit unclear: normally you don't replace the sim. The sim in your car is still online and not limited as such. The limit is the software. So when your trial of premium connectivity ends, it's not the sim that's getting limited, it is the functions in the software that gets locked. So replacing the sim with your own won't solve the limitations in the locked software.

    My son is a professional musician and educator. Spotify is the worst streaming service for musicians. None of the streaming services pay the creators properly but Apple Music and RUclips music are slightly better for musicians. Many musicians have blocked Spotify so you won't get their content.

    • @ItsOnlyElectric

      That may be the case. But still the biggest service by a big margin and whereost of the users are. Especially here in Scandinavia. I personally prefer RUclips Music, but lack of native support for certain platforms, like in the Tesla makes it harder to use.
