- Katz's Delicatessen New York: Best Pastrami in the World! Pastrami and Fake Orgasms go hand in hand at the most famous delicatessen in the world Katz’s Deli as cameoed in the 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally. They make a great pastrami sandwich and have built their reputation purely on quality, longevity was inevitable. It's how they prepare it, cure it, cook it and slice it. It was started in 1888 yes more than a century ago as a small deli by the name of Iceland Brothers which was then changed to Iceland and Katz when Willy Katz joined the business in 1903 and then formally Katz’s Delicatessen in 1910 when the Kat’s bought out the Iceland Brothers. Eventually in 1988 without any heirs the remaining family members sold the business to restauranteur Martin Dell and currently his son Jake runs the business. Each day this legendary deli serves as many as 4000 visitors from around the world who get to feast on pastrami, corned beef, brisket on a different level. There are 7 butcher stations so choose the shortest line to get served.
From their menu we highly recommend their Hot Pastrami on Rye and their Reuben sandwich, the servings size is massive and one sandwich could easily fill 2 adults, but it was so damn good and after the long waiting time we each wolfed one down.

Next time I'll go there I will make a scene from "When Harry met Sally "😄😄😄😄😄Pricey but still worth each orgasmic mouth feel moment 😋
THESE CLOWNS ARE PATHETIC. NOTHING SPECIAL HERE & THE PRICES ARE BEYOND REASONABLE FOR WHAT YOU GET ! WAY BETTER PLACES & TASTING FOOD THAN THIS & IT IS NOT A ZOO !!
Aksana Ancheta ...don’t do that..we’re ALL so OVER IT...I know they ARE.🙄🤨
EDGE LENNOX Agreed! He spent over 45 for 2 damn sandwiches and some pickles!! 🤨
@@yama5182 almost everyone complaining about price. I could say you guys so over it that not appreciate great quality meals anymore, and about the price :its also OK, that could be once or twice in lifetime experience .
@@edgelennox4035 appreciate your opinion a lot! Have a great and happy day! 😊
I am from rural kentucky, i can get a black angus , boneless ribeye at 16 oz, with a baked potato and salad for $19.99, i can get a prime black angus ribeye, boneless with a baked potato and salad for $25.99, and you want someone to pay over $ 20.00 for a pastrami sandwich, and pay more for hot dogs, latkas, pickles. I"ll probably never visit new york again, but if i do , you all must be crazy if you think i will pay those prices. Plus you say , the taste comes from the water, for $20.00, i"ll drink a bottled water, unless you charge that much for water
Thanks for the comment?!😀
Former NYer here. Been to Katz's Lower East Side. Loved you pastrami recipie. My wife and I made it together. Still enjoying it. Will repeat soon! Thanks!
Thanks for the comment and feedback! 😀😋
As a child, my dad took me to Katz’s during World War Two and I never forgot it. Greatest quality in New York.
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
My number 1 bucket list sandwich.
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
Paid 22.45 just the other night for a pastrami sandwich. Best sandwich I ever paid for. Been going to Katz for over 30 years.
Thanks for the comment! Its out of this world! 😀👍😋
A disgusting tourist trap where customers are treated like cattle. Excellent pastrami and smoked meat can be eaten in other places that are customer friendly for $6 .00 to $8.00 and portions are generous! Thanks for the video, though, it's informative enough to spare you a frustrating experience !
Thanks for the comment and feedback! 😀😋
They have become one of the most disgusting places in New York City only for the tourist they forgot who made them rich
Thank You will avoid on vacation, I definitely want to go to Peter Lugers Steakhouse.
@@briangleason5597 Peter Luger Steakhouse is good... do not go out of your way getting dressed up... food is great the service could improve ...but you will not waste your money
look at all these people mad about this video, calling it disgusting. This is what success looks like. Stick to your little girl sandwiches, this is for real men. Merrica
Very EXPENSIVE BUT ITS WORTH IT ..I remember when a hot pastrami sandwich was there for $5.00....in 1980s. I will go there again and again ... its A NEW YORK CITY EXPERIENCE , ITS WORTH IT !!!
Thanks for the comment and sharing your 80’s experience! 😀😋
Best sandwich ever. Their hot dogs and knish are awesome as well.
Thanks for the comment and feedback! 😀😋
I lived on the Lower East Side, my entire life! I remeber when Kats where 10.50 a sandwhich, then 15.00 now it's 24.00 and there's only half the meat they once put! This place is obviously a tourist attraction, ridiculously over prices and if you don't tip the butcher, well they hold back on the meat! Always make sure to give a dollar or two, so u can have a decent ass sandwich!
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
$10.50 is the price I remember. Would never pay over $20 for a sandwich. That's why I did this recepie.
$47.80 for two small sandwiches on rye bread with some mustard and some soft drinks, out of this world over prices.
Thanks for the comment! 😀
It is expensive, but totally worth it :D
@@user-sj3fp2xq2m hell no its a rip off
Weird man, could not find your multi million dollar 100+ year old restaurant on here?
It's in Manhattan, one of the most expensive cities in the world. Of course you can buy similar sandwiches for much cheaper anywhere else. But you're not just paying for the food, you're paying for the experience. Like paying 2-3x the price for alcohol in a club. Paying 2-3x for a burger or hotdog at Disneyworld. It's all supply and demand 😕
Hi Guys! We just went to NYC and stopped at Katz Deli. Our cutter was Jose, the same guy that was the cutter in your video. He still remembers your visit.
Hi thats awesome he is still there. Hope you enjoyed your visit! 😀👍😋
My home city..... I Love NY.. There is no more Carnegie Deli..... Katz's is still there!
Thanks for the comment! 😀👍😋
Team Ruben all day!!!! One of my all-time favorite sandwiches
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
Hour Philippines TV Thanks for the video :)
the owners are genius!!bravo.20 bucks per sandwich doesn't seem to scare 4000 people per day
Haha thanks for the comment! 😀
the kids took over the business and all they care about is money, when the father had the business, it was all about quality and pride in making a tasty meat to be loved, big ups to the father
Thanks for the comment! 😀
I'll pay double for that sandwich that's how delicious and out of this world that sandwich is
Haha true! Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
Looks like a really relaxing, stress free dining experience....
+basherkit thanks for the comment! :-)
basherkit I'm laughing with you... such a queue for two sandwiches, a place in the middle of people who are waiting, two pieces of bad bread with meat. I sincerely hope that the pickles are free ! 😊
basherkit and romantic.
And then you get the bill...
That's why you say "make it to go".
Wow, they look great, but 50$ for two sandwiches, that's crazy.
Yeah , but at least they take the time to microwave your cheese.
thats disgusting. They are over hyped
How else can they melt the cheese lmao. They don’t even hide the fact they use a microwave. Maybe a steamer or small oven would be much better then a microwave
Roland Tuason and you get microwaved cheese
It's close to a pound of meat. You pay a fortune for a 16 ounce steak. The price of brisket and navel cuts isn't cheap
Yummm!
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
@@Hourphilippines My pleasure! Thanks for the great food!
Thanks for thew video, next time (when I am again lucky enough to visit) that big apple I intend on making the pilgrimage to Katz, looks amazing!! and this comment is from a die hard Texan BBQ King!!
+THEMASTEROFYOU2000 thanks for the comment, it is definitely worth the pilgrimage! :-)
My mouth is watering!
Thanks for the comment! 😀
I feel bad. I’m in Australia and my friend went to NYC last year and I made her promise me to visit Katz’s for a pastrami on rye. She did. I never knew it was so expensive! It’s a friggin sandwich!
Thanks for the comment hope she enjoyed! 😀😋
She did and said it was worth the money. Just feel bad for living vicariously through her.
Please note a big Mac meal is 8.50. The slices of meat given before the sandwich is made is for customers approval, please let the cook know maby you want a dryer or moister pice. Gotta love the two different pickles.
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
Well informed and fun to watch, great work!👍

The last time I went to Katz's delicatessen I ordered a corned beef sandwich on rye bread. The waiter turned around and yelled out, " Von corned beef, Von". The he ran behind the counter and made it.
Thanks for the comment and sharing! 😀😂😋
Overpriced but the best pastrami you'll ever eat. I'm glad I live in NY!
Thanks for the comment, glad you think so too!!😀😋
I want this sandwich so badly.
Thanks for the comment! 😀
Wow! I never made it to Katz, but I did visit Shapiro's Deli in Indianapolis for a hot pastrami sandwich. It was definitely worth the price and the long drive from the opposite side of town. I only wish we had something similar in metro Manila.
Thanks for the comment Kevin! Unfortunatley no legendary Deli experience in Manila. Antonio’s Breakfast and Old Swiss Inn has an excellent home made corned beef though! 😀👍😋
She finally gave the child a piece of the meat...Took the second half of the show to realize they were all together..😝
Haha thanks for the comment, 2 ginormous pastrami sandwiches more than enough for 2 adults and 1 child, we were all stuffed! 😀😋😂
👍
Yummy!!👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the comment! 😀
Next time you’re there, you must try their potato Knish and the Beef knockwursts along with the fries. All a must.
Thanks for the comment and suggestions! 😀👍😋
Poor unfriendly service, over priced crap, basically a tourist trap. The tip jars are beyond tacky.
Thanks for the comment and sharing your experience! 😀
Go back to Iowa.
Nothing poor about the service from what I saw.
Enjoy the food dumb as
sansisthebest that’s because idiots like you enjoy being robbed for your hard earned money.
I loved this deli, I don't know why the comments are so critical. If you don't want to eat at a crowded diner old diner with weird ordering processes... maybe don't do that then, I don't know what to tell you
Thanks for the comment, most peiple haven’t been there they are just curious about the place but are discouraged by the price and the crowd but that is all part of the experience! 😀😋
I love watching the guys make sandwiches by hand.
It's a ballet.
Yes it's beautiful!
Definitely is! 😀
Thanks for the comment! 😀
Katz's pastrami is delicious. Anybody complaining about price, just go to your local deli and get Boar's Head pastrami instead. It's awful but you won't be bitching about the price.
Thanks for the comment! 😀👍
As a person, more important a Jew, that grew up in NYC during the 50's 'til now I can tell you that Katz's in a tourist trap. The problem is that Kosher deli's are are dissapearing so there isn't much choice. I went to Katz's a few nyears ago and was really disappointed. Their Matzo Ball soup tasted like it came from a diner. You're paying for the reputation and the fact that they filmed a movie there, they even point out the seat used. Go to a lesser know deli. You'll be better off
Thanks for the comment, how does the pastrami at the lesser known deli compare? 😀😋
There really is a sucker born every day!
Cary O Phil Len: He's saying he's from the same ethnic group as Katz's founders and is familiar with that style of food. Don't get so bent out of shape over a poorly turned phrase.
I see nothing wrong with the way I phrased my comment
You obviously missed the point of my comment. The fact that I grew up in New York of Jewish ethnicity makes me more familiar with Kosher Deli's that those who didn't. I could have used "person" but the point wouldn't get across. It's a tourist trap. Never the less don't take my advise. Go there pay exorbitant prices for mediocre food. .The only place where you prepay. Hope you don't lose your ticket
At that price, it's not going to happen.
Thanks for the comment! 😀
I'm not standing in line that long for anything. lol
Thanks for the comment! 😀👍
Mi gente dominicana en chercha. Porque trabajar duro no va con pasar trabajo! Un abrazo ayaaaa.

Thanks for the comment Jasmine it was! 😀😍
For everyone saying $22 is too expensive, I'd suggest sticking with Denny's.... Lol
Haha thanks for the comment! 😀😋

At the time I did. But now , your sarcasm is on point for I am indeed broke, smh
So helpful, thank you!!!
Thanks for the comment and feedback! 😀😋
Best line on the menu: "3 Meat Platter (Feeds three tourists or one hungry customer)". They know their audience!
Thanks for the comment! 😀👍😋
This was one of my must does when I went to NY from Australia, nice but damn expensive.
Thanks for the comment and sharing! 😀👍😋
It like saying disneyland is exoensive
2 sandwich's for $50 bucks thats extreme or even usury, how much for a cookie $10 bucks
+lewis mcdonald haha well you get what you pay for! 😋
mensah talk 1 The cookies are 12.99 a pop
Katz are trash anyways
Your review is so amazing
I get dizzy just looking at it. It's so good!
Thanks for the comment!!😀👍😋
Don't stick the fork in the worktop its covered in linseed oil or stainer paints not meant for human consumption
Thanks for the comment! 😀
go there every time I'm in NYC. Have never been treated badly by anyone there. I go at off peak hours usually 7-8 in the evening on a weeknight. it helps to give the cutter a fiver for a couple of sandwiched BEFORE he makes it. and yes it's getting pricey..........first time I was there 14 yrs ago a pastrami sandwich was 14 bucks........it's now 22. 45 without any cheese, not sure about the rueben. the cole slaw is also quite good and I always get a dr brown's cherry soda. I've been to other NYC deli's and still Katz' is the best you can argue all day about it, I"ll go to Katz' not going to NYC this year so I had them ship me makings for two pastrami sandwiches to Maui Hawaii. That's how much I like it.period if you go in the evening aske for "benny".......he's great
Thanks for the comment and sharing! 😀😋
No wonder the lines are long, this guys takes a long time to make two sandwiches.
haha well worth the wait though! :-)
Wait so its not even the original family that owns it anymore? And the prices are obscene and the people are rude, why do people go there?
The pastrami is out of this world! 😀😋
There are many idiots like you who make this legendary . By overpaying you are patonizing this owner. Are you doing drugs or in business to pay that much for a sandwich? Go down to their basement kitchen to chase rats who feed on these meat whole night.
That people will enter Katz's to immediately be threatened with severe penalty's for loosing a ticket and then be treated as though it's an imposition for the staff to serve you amazes me. Katz's might have a good pastrami sandwich but why people will pay such ridiculous prices and endure such disrespect from the moment they enter their door is just ludicrous . They charge over twenty dollars for a sandwich and have tip jars placed every two feet expecting more for making your already overpriced sandwich. There really is a sucker born every day!
Thanks for the comment, people are willing to pay a premium for a foodie experience like no other! 😀😋
Katz's is a typical tourist trap and people pay the price. $22 for a sandwich that would cost $12-14 anyplace else. For me it would be a one time experience only.
i normally dont make comments but you my friend are spot on with your comment. i dont understand paying that much to be put through b.s. for a damn sandwich. made for sucker tourist but hey its their money.
Go fuck yourself..................Its part of eating the best. If you can't deal with the prices then don't make stupid comments!!!!
Go tell it to the Soup Nazi next door
Loved your video. One day I'll have try and get to New York to try it.

Is it just me or what? Lol
Thanks for the comment! No its everybody! 😀😋
ok im going to visit katzs, order 10 pastrami sandwich and loose the bill so they can charge me 50 dollars
+Alfons Schuhler haha please update us what happens! 😋
After reading the comments how the hell this place is still open..??
Its good - damn good! 😀😋
The place is still open because the customers keep coming. Simple, isn't it?
I’d buy it,RIGHT NOW
Dumb ass customers that dont see they getting robbed.
Gorgeous sandwiches.

Wow they cut the meat so fast. This deli is known worldwide. This is one of the reasons why they can charge more. If you don't like the price it's really simple eat somewhere else.
Thanks for the comment! 😀
Our family (5 people) ate there and spent $120 but we got 3 meals from what we ordered and it was really good food. We had dinner later in the day in the east village at mama Fina's and enjoyed great filipino food. Their sisig was excellent if your ever in that area of Manhattan. Love your vids bro!

Paying the fine is probably cheaper than paying for the meal
Definitely could be! 😀😋
@@Hourphilippines Jokes a side, it's probably worth it if it's a one off or you don't go often

as of Dec 2019, it is now $30

Hour Philippines TV correction, it is now $23
Schwartz's in montreal is better and is about half the price for a sandwich......This place is an overpriced tourist trap.
Thanks for the comment and suggestion! 😀
Did it occur to you that real estate in Montreal might be a teeny bit less expensive than on the lower east side in Manhattan? You can buy a 1500 sq foot condo in Montreal for probably 10-20% of the price of the same condo on the lower east side in Manhattan, too. But then . . . you're in Montreal, not Manhattan. Does that make the condo in Manhattan "overpriced?" You're comparing latkes to knishes.
@@jawtek82 Cost of living in montreal is around 60 percent or so.....10% cheapers is ludicrous and so made up.....Also meat is a lot pricier in Canada than the states.
So.... Stay your ass in Montreal .
Thats a damn crowded place to enjoy good food peacefully.
Forget the people just focus on the food! 😀😋
I live in Baltimore I used to work for Katz Deli back in the 80,s.

I never tried one because they were to expensive at $14.00's when I lived there a decade ago now basically $24.00's? That is insane sorry! The bread is small also and looks lame it should be grilled a little not just dry bread.
Thanks for the comment! 😀😋
It's own by Jewish people.
Never been there. But at a place like that, I'd guess the shortest "cutter" line is the shortest for a reason. I'm not getting in the shortest line. I'm getting in the longest. Unless the place has turned into a tourist trap.

Howard Weinstein .... Cheap labor
Howard Weinstein and what’s your point?or to be more specific who’s fault you think that is? Go ahead and complain to the owner of this place on why he’s taking American jobs away to give it to Latinos. There’s only 3 possible answer to this sir. 1 white boys don’t want to make sandwiches for 16 dollars an hour.2 lowed wages more profit. Or 3 to me the real answer to this BS, the owner has become so greedy that he wants to pay less to employees to maximize his gains I wonder why he only accept cash only, how much do you think it gets declared on taxes at the end of the year. And by the way the owner of this joint is a white man,a white man that should be taking care of his people but he rather hire Spanish people 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😝😝😝. But we always going to be hearing the same narrative on Fox News that Latino are stealing American jobs.a bunch of bullshit to me.
toasted rye bread holds the pastrami better than plain rye bread.

Hey HP! new subscriber here! I chanced upon your channel while looking for Boracay cheap eats as im booked this coming August. Thereafter, ive been hooked binge watching your food reviews and travels. your content and filming is very raw and real unlike most channels with scripted and fancy stuff going on... I like that you tell a lil history about the place and show the prices too. Btw, been to Katz a couple years ago and yeah them sandwiches are pretty amazing, goes well with a rootbeer imo. keep it up!
