Having lived in NYC nearly all my life I’ve been fortunate enough to have eaten at both of theses places several times over the years. Absolutely loved them both. I’ve since retired and moved away and miss this type of food every day.
I luckily lived not far from the city most of my life and have eaten at many popular NYC restaurants over my years. Sylvia’s fried chicken was definitely in the top three I’ve ever eaten for sure lol. Katz is a different kind of place obviously. As you know too well it’s a tourist trap and their prices are insane - but Christ almighty their sandwiches are delicious. I have my mouth watering just thinking about those pastrami and mustard lol
I love reading comments from people who hve actually been to these places. Cause I hve only seen it on a screen obviously. It literally is another world away from where I live in "The Most Isolated City On Earth".

Im from the UK and I went to the US in 2019 to work at a summer camp and when i finished i stayed in NEW YORK and because of this show and Adam i went to SYLVIA'S and honestly the best food ive eaten
Stephen White unfortunately it’s not like what it used to be, just not much care is put into it anymore :(. Her niece owns a restaurant though in NY, and it has the classic Sylvias kitchen taste.

I was out one day in Rochester Minnesota & this guy approached me and we started talking and I gave him a ride somewhere and later he called me and I met his wife & we got to be pretty good friends & after helping him out a couple times he invited me to dinner and he and his wife were from down South and they cooked some great food.. it was definitely one of those soul food type meals and we were making hot water cornbread haha.. there was so much actually
It’s really good. If you want to pay 20 for a chain pizza or an awesome pastrami or corned beef. It’s $4 for a gallon of milk. $20 for an awesome sandwich isn’t that bad

With a higher cost of living, they have to pay their employees a more as well as other higher costs. That's why most of us stay out of NYC. It's worth a visit but it's a hell hole to live in.

I live 4 blocks away from Katz's. People complain about the price of the sandwich but its seriously 2 meals which puts it less than shakeshack lol. I have eaten a whole sandwich a few times and after just unbearably full...
Totally different company, the Texas stores used Katz's good name to get a foothold in the business. The NYC Katz's didn't sue because it's not worth it.

I went to Katz’s 9 years ago, and I absolutely loved the pastrami sandwich I had! Adam is 100% correct about these guys!

You get 3/4 of a pound of beef. Beef is at least 8 bucks a pound wholesale. Factor in labor, overhead, etc.

It's not the same place, the deli in Houston stole its good name and was lucky the owners of Katz's didn't sue them.
