Thank you very much for the kind words! It is much appreciated. Thanks for watching and following the channel!
Lol I pack my 883 everywhere absolutely love it, don’t think 1 ounce is worth getting a new spotter for. Nice video, great review.
Hey David! Yeah, I am happy to pack the 88 for hunts where I need to glass long distances. It's awesome glass! Thanks for watching!
People had to purchase an add'l accessory - "Eye Relief Twist Lock Rings" so the eyepiece wouldn't move on them in the 880 model... expecially for connecting heavier, newer phones to the eye piece for digiscoping. Wonder if the new 88A is strong enough not to need those locking rings. The new 88A supposedly includes a clip-on aiming sight to help locate what you're looking at faster. 👍
Hey there! Great question....I should have addressed that in the video. Yes, I've tried the new eye piece with my phone and it has enough resistance to extend the eye relief all the way out and still hold the phone in place! And yes, the new angled model does come with and aiming piece to attach if you'd like. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic review. Are there any plans on reviewing the meopro 80 HD 30-60x?
Thanks! A Meopro 80 HD isn't on the immediate plans...but hopefully down the road. Thanks for watching!
Good job
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I enjoy watching your videos, esp. the comparison ones, and always walk away more knowledgeable. Now, I have the 883, am I understanding you correctly, that there is no difference in the image quality between the two, ie. the light transmission, edge to edge clarity, sharpness, etc?
Thank you! I really appreciate you following the channel.
There was no discernable difference in image clarity or edge to edge clarity that I could see... however there is a small increase in light transmission with the new 88A (2% increase). You'd likely need to have the 883 and new 88A side by side to tell the difference, but given that the 883 is already so incredibly good, any improvement is amazing! Thanks again for watching!
@@BackwoodsPursuit Thanks for the info. I absolutely love my 883 and have no qualms about it. You were the only one that did a side-by-side comparison with the old and the new. I'm glad to hear that for the most part, the image is the same. That was my main concern. I wasn't sure if I should sell my 883 and pony up a little bit more for the new and improved 88A. It looks like I'm gonna stay with my 883. 😎 Thanks again!
@@tundak630 absolutely! Happy to help. That 883 is absolutely amazing, and I totally get it on the upgrade. The new features are definitely nice, but hard to pony up the extra money for the upgrades!
One thing that worries me regarding KOWA is sample variance. From what I have been hearing particularly regarding the 99 but also the 883 was there were a lot of lemons out there which were not sharp. Lots of people have had to send them back. Which you don’t really expect at this price point. However I have looked though one of each and they look great. For me it’s the fatigue of having one eye closed which puts me off spending so much money on a scope. The 88a or the Swarovski ATX are the top two contenders so far just wished there were more btx type approaches taken by spotter manufacturers
Yeah, I can understand that on the spotter/bino approach....that gets tough with the extra weight though for the folks who want to pack them around in a backpack. Certainly uses foe both types! Thanks for watching!
Great comparison! So when you going to do the give away for the old Kowa 883!?! 😉
Haha.... right! Thanks for watching 😁
Great review, you'd do me a great favour if you could answer a question: Does the old nylon-type cover for the 883 still fit the 88A? I don't really fancy the neopren cover they developed for the new 88A...it's sooo expensive and not as good looking imo.
Hey there and thank you! As far as I can tell, the size, shape and design did not change, so if you have a case that fit the 883, it should fit the 88A as well. Thanks for watching!
@@BackwoodsPursuit Thanks for the quick response. You don't happen to have one at hand to try that out, do you? 😄 I got the 88A and don't have the old cover to try it out myself before I buy
@KnorpelDeluxe I'm sorry....I don't unfortunately. Let me.know though if you do try it! Thanks!
@@BackwoodsPursuit Thank you. I will! 🦅
@KnorpelDeluxe sounds good...thanks!
Did you find the eye relief not very forgiving? Did you have to get your eye very close to get a good view?
Hey there! I found the eye relief very forgiving on these Kowa spotters. The eyebox on these is excellent (especially when compared to other spotting scopes). Thanks for watching!
What about the cristal quality? Does it have any reticle to help the shooter?
As far as I know and can tell, there has been no change to the crystal quality. This eyepiece does not have a reticle for shooters. I don't believe Kowa currently offers ana eyepiece with a reticle. Maybe sometime in the future. Thanks for watching!
Was this kowa 88 number 1 in your spotting scope test? Thanks
Hey there! The Kowa 88 was neck and neck with the Swaro ATX 85. Some liked the Kowa better, and some liked the Swaro better. But, the ATX barely edged out the Kowa in the scoring. Thanks for watching!
Do a review on a kowa tsn 99
That is is the works Darren! Thanks for watching!
Is the 88mm sort of the most popular size for performance/portability?
Hey there! I'd say that prior to the release of the Kowa 66, the Kowa 77 was the most popular for performance/ portability. Now that the 77 has been replaced with the 66, I expect that one to be the most popular for portability/ weight savings if you are packing it around. Thanks for watching!
@@BackwoodsPursuit thanks a lot for your reply. Have u compared the tsn 883 to the new 88a? The 88a is around £700 more than the 883 here in the UK, and doesn't look like it might be worth the upgrade maybe? Thanks
@GM-bq6zo I have...here is the video on that comparison. Kowa say about 2% better light transmission. We did notice slighter better low light performance, but very minimal difference. ruclips.net/video/RCTbzqhBYYw/видео.htmlsi=BJowd0lS_FlFMN7q
@@BackwoodsPursuit thank you
@@GM-bq6zo any time!
Tsn 88 and 99 comes with pure Fluorite objective glass? the glass used in eyepieces are also pure Fluorite??
Hey there! Yes, the Kowa 88 has a pure fluorite objective lens. The eyepiece ,however is composed of ED and fully multi-coated lenses. Thanks for watching!
