  • The glassing guru, Cody Nelson, stops by the office to sit down with Trail and Brady to talk about compact spotting scopes. The GOHUNT gear shop has a great selection of compact spotters and the guys cover the size, weight, focus and clarity for compact options from Vortex, Kowa, and the crew gets their hands on the new Swarovski ATC for the first time. The guys also have a lively debate about their favorite species to hunt and eat (mule deer versus elk) and they swap a few hunting stories.

    I’m with Brady, I’m addicted to Mule Deer. When he called Elk, “Mountain Carp”, I died laughing 😂

    My son and I our gearing up for our first ever big game mountain hunt. I've been watching a lot of GoHunt videos and learning as much as I can. I've narrowed down my spotting scope selection to the Swaro ATS or ATC. For a first time buyer of a spotting scope would one of these make more sense for us than the other.

    I'm near the front of the aging hunter pack and finding it harder and harder to include the Swaro 65 in my pack. Fortunately, I have a quality lightweight tripod for my NL 12s and compact rangefinder, so I carry it anyway, but the new Swaro STC is exactly what I need to help me to quit leaving the spotter in the truck. Thanks for comparing all three of the most logical choices for a compact spotting scope that is not only a good glass for the younger backpack crowd, but also for us old 'too stubborn to quit' guys as well.

    Great conversation! Which tripod would y’all suggest for the ATC to stay as stable and light as possible?

    I wish they had the integrated rotation on the swaro atc 😬😬😬. Angled for me is so much more comfortable but don’t think I could handle not being able to rotate it.

    If you guys do a rangefinder podcast could you address the Leica delay on EHR and lack of EHR on scan. Seeing LOS first and then EHR seems like an accident waiting to happen. Why haven’t they fixed that!!

    I get what Brady is saying about elk meat. It’s almost TOO mild. I actually prefer a bit of game taste to meat, makes it feel more authentic, nostalgic or something. That’s the reason I like pronghorn so much

  • @davidendsley2391
    @davidendsley2391 Год назад +1

    Yea, I just want to know how do you cook the horns , a small buck or a 200 buck they taste the same so I will arrow a small buck before I get a big one. Now don’t get me wrong if a 200 gets in range he’s going down but you can’t eat the horns so I just hunt for meat

    • @JohanWXC
      @JohanWXC Год назад

      If you only care about meat, you should buy a damned cow elk tag or a pig on the market. Forget mule deer; they have roughly half of the meat that elk have. The vast majority of hunters want to challenge themselves by pursuing mature animals and don't give a shit for your sorry-ass virtue signaling. Have some respect and let the animal live at least half of its life.

    Wow I like mule deer meat but Nilgai, moose and Elk are best three meats in that order. I like Muley whitetail and and axis deer next but elk is better than any deer.

    The lack of love for elk hunting from Brady is a travesty! A guy with that much passion, skillset and determination when it comes to hunting everything but elk?! Sad! He’ll come around.

    Cody gave a ton of good information, with that said, it’s very irritating listening to him. He sounds like he’s in trouble and is trying to be apologetic with his tone. Trust me, I’m not saying I could do any better but he needs to be more firm with his information. Love your podcast!

    The old zeiss diascope 65 with 30x wide eyepiece only weights 47 oz (with 15-45 it's 49 oz and with the 15-56 it's 51 oz)., is rugged as hell and still has better resolution than leica and swarovski 65 at or at made today...and it's design is 20 years old. Zeiss also still has better light transmission than anyone else which makes a zeiss 65 mm equivalent to 80 mm spotters from other manufacturers because zeiss have such high transmission of blue light. Not sure why all the ziess hate in the US, seem swarovski advertising really did these US hunters in lol.
    Still these are all awesome but zeiss really should get more love. They are easily better than leica spotters. Now if you really feel you need more than a 65 try a meopta. Meopta literally made both the zeiss diascopes and the leica televid spotters and by contract the zeiss had to be better...and it was easily using zeiss coatings. Now meopta is free to make their own spotter the meopta s2 and it's smokes the swarovskis. I think the s2 with its wide angle 30-60 eyepiece even beats the old diascopes (except in brightness zeiss always wins) and personally I prefer the high contrast view of the s2. Beats the kowas too in my experience especially with that particular constant huge 66 degree afov

      We rarely hear about Meopta in U.S.
