    WELCOME BACK TO OUR CHANNEL 🚐
    Mark is pretty much doing this week’s video solo as its his first ever review on our Channel and its all about the newest AVTEX TOURER THREE that is a collabertion with Garmin and the Caravan and Motorhome Club. We bought the SatNav at the Southwest Motorhome and Campervan Show and once it arrived it was given a test run to see how it performed.
    Let us know what you think, thanks for watching and see you soon xx

    At the roundabout turn left, my mate who is a heavy goods class one driver swears by that system and I must say seeing your review it looks a very good bit of kit, nice size, easy to navigate the menus and clear instructions plus a great clear screen, was also good how you could touch a site whilst moving and it re routed in a good time yes very impressive, as for your loss of data that's not your system that's everyone's system because not all roads are measured so you will still have the possibility of being sent down narrow lanes, for years now I've used an Android app (here we go) works offline etc and used it everywhere and I find it's suit me (personal thing) I select fastest route and to avoid unpaved roads and it does a good job plus it's not a fussy screen, I'm not a fan of Google maps to much on the screen for my liking, maybe you could do a comparison vlog, android Vs Garmin ? Anyway nice bit of kit and another interesting vlog keep them coming 👍.

      Mark is very happy with it at the moment - the true test will be when we use it abroad next year but agree that having those campsites show up as you go along and being able to just click on one and get re-routed was really good, could save me time as the navigator looking in various books to find a site! He hates that google maps doesn’t tell you which lane and stuff so its good for that as well. We’ll keep you updated 😊

    Interesting review, we have the Avtex Tourer 2 and if we were buying a new one now would definitely go for the 3 but I think the delta of features between 2 & 3 probably isn’t worth the upgrade for us, the Avtex 2 has been a great sat nav so far 90% of the time, 10% seems to send us strange ways 😀 enjoy, sure it will be really helpful - all the best, David 👍

    Very interested for feedback on unsuitable roads and environmental zones,in particular low emissions.

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Sally thanks for your question, our experience regarding the Garmin Tourer alerts on "unsuitable roads" is mostly good, we listen to the alerts and this has proven a good decision on our part. as we did do a couple tests by ignoring their road unsuitable alert to then be guided down some narrow country roads, so I would say that the Garmin Tourer unsuitable roads alerts are pretty sound advice. (please note that there are Garmin caveats around this as the Garmin relies mostly on Mapping updates, by others). As for the environmental zones the Garmin is capable of alerting drivers of said zones but we have not had to make use of this feature yet. I think it would be a very good alert to test in due course. Make sure you run on these alerts in the Garmin settings. All the best Mark.

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Malcolm, yes we are still using the GARMIN Tourer 3, and no it hasn’t let us down. I think though that sometimes the mapping data GARMIN draw from to advise us whether roads are too narrow etc is perhaps vague for them. The GARMIN when it’s not sure of the road ahead often shows ??? “Question marks” this I’ve proven occasionally is them being too cautious as I’ve managed to drive safely through. I don’t see this as a failing as they have at least given us question marks and left it to the driver to decide. All together i have found the Tourer to be a great investment. Thanks for the question.

    Very informative video and I have now subscribed. I recently bought a 2017 Auto Sleeper which had an Avtex Tourer 1 supplied which was coupled to the reversing camera. I also had an Avtex Tourer 2 from my previous caravan days so I am well equipped with sat.navs ! I notice on the new model 3 a new feature called 'BirdsEye Satellite Imagery' and wonder if you had time to test it and can explain what it is. Many thanks.

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  Год назад

      Hi Bill, thank you for subscribing and for watching, we really appreciate that 😍 We have had a look at the SatNav and this function and what it entails is downloading a section of map in satellite imagery (similar to Google maps). You can only do this when you have wifi connection. How this helps is, in advance of your destination you could download the birds eye imagery and then use it when you arrive in the town/village/city you are going to to give you clearer mapping imagery at the time. We think this means you need to plan in advance but could be quite a useful feature.

    Hi, I like how it tells you what to do, in plenty of time rather than delayed & says "turn right" literally on the junction. Is this because you're using phone data or are you using it offline? I'm looking for one but don't want to use all my data on my phone . Many thanks

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  Год назад

      Hi 👋🏻 We really like that as well as using our phones for directions all did the same thing and we’d miss the turn! This SatNav doesn’t use any data at any time. The maps are built in to the device and it finds itself with GPS signals. Hope this helps you but if you need any further info please ask 😊 Thank you for watching 😍

    Hi - enjoying your vlogs. I’ve just gone back to look at your review of the Avtec/Garmin Tourer 3 Sat nav. Currently using the Copilot app on iPhone and it’s recently sent me down a few unsuitable narrow roads when there’s an obvious better convenient road. I’m considering getting the Tourer 3 but its expensive and now that you’ve had yours for a while was wondering how it’s performing?

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  Год назад +1

      Hi Allan 👋🏻 So to be completely honest with you, we used ours all throughout our last trip abroad and a few times in the UK and it has unfortunately sent us down some narrow roads which we obviously fit down but they do prove difficult if something comes the other way which we experienced when we were in Paignton last weekend. We're used to driving around the Cornish lanes though but do wonder why it takes you down certain routes! No real issues abroad, helped us avoid lots of toll roads. We're wondering what it would do if we put in bigger dimensions so might try that next time we go away! We like it because of the caravan sites which come up as you drive along and it's helped us get to a few "trendy places" quite well. Sorry we can't be of more help. Thank you for watching, we appreciate that - Amanda & Mark 😍

    I just got the avtex tourer 3 as it was top rated in reviews, but it is terrible. Same as what lots of people say, sends you down crazy single lanes. I pretty much have binned it and use Mapfactor Navigator Truck as an app on my phone, it never sends me down anything dodgy at all.

      Hi, we have just come back from a 3 week trip around Spain, Portugal and France and it did pretty well. There were a couple of occasions where it took us down narrow roads, not that they were too narrow for us to get down but we did worry what would happen if something came the other way! We’re not sure if this was because we were avoiding toll roads though. Not heard of the Mapfactor one, will have to have a look so thanks for sharing 😍

      You do know that a Sat Nav isn't God right? it doesn't know if vehicles come the other way. if your dimensions fight with the registered road width of a single track lane then of course it would take you down that road. I dont know what more you'd expect? Sounds more like user error to me.

    Just purchased the T3 and already befuddled with all the options available. In particular using the Search by Coordinates tool. Followed the instructions 'Where to?', Coordinates. Using the GPS co-ords from my camper stop book for stop-overs in France - after entering the N's & W's selected 'Done' and nothing happens except for the co-ord screen to turn pink? Any ideas? Ian

      Hi Ian, thanks for watching and your comment. We haven’t tried the GPS yet but you have intrigued Mark so he is going to get it out of the van tomoz and have a good look at - we had an old TomTom satnav years ago and used GPS co-ordinates to find our way around Italy so it’s definitely something we need to check.

    Thank you for your review. It appears that this unit is based on the Garmin Camper 795, albeit with with a few apps, namely Caravan & Motorhome Club. I am just trying to understand if the price difference between the 2 units, £90, is worth it. Your thoughts would be welcomed.

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  Год назад +1

      Hi Alan. We have had a look online and can see on Garmin.com that it is the same Owners Manual and base device for both units - its only the software difference so if you value the CAMC sites (we quite like them and the CLs) then its a personal choice. We haven’t been able to use it properly yet as we haven’t been any further than Tavistock since we bought it but we will be giving it a good use next year and will be going abroad. We also bought it at a Motorhome Show so got it for quite a good price. Thank you for watching and commenting 😊

    Very helpful thank you! Are you able to programme in a specific route? I know with the Garmin Overlander you can see a plan of the route and drag the route to specific roads if you want it to take a specific route. Am interested if you can do the same with the Tourer 3?

    • @AdventureswithAmandaandMark
      @AdventureswithAmandaandMark  Год назад

      Hi, I have looked into your question, and I believe I can say yes that the Tourer 3 will do what you are asking. Perhaps in a different way and I will try and explain as follows. If you set your ultimate destination and then say go, then zoom in to the route and drop pins via additional stops en route, the machine will ask if you want to “shape the route” if you say yes then it will build this via point into your route. Alternatively of course you can add stops manually by typing in post codes as you do in google maps - Mark 😍

    • @airbornelawyer3300
      @airbornelawyer3300 Год назад

      @@AdventureswithAmandaandMark this is extremely helpful, thank you Mark. That's exactly the function I've seen on the Overlander and am very keen to make sure I have on the new system I get. Context is that despite inserting height restrictions etc my satnav recently directed me through the A86 Duplex tunnel around Paris, which has a 2m height restriction. Emergency lights flashed on approach telling me I was over the height limit, and I had to take an escape lane off the Autoroute. A challenging journey through suburban Paris ensued in an 8m motorhome. Anyhow, that's the sort of scenario I want to avoid by pre-plotting a route where necessary! Thanks again for taking the time to come back and enjoy your travels.
