Thanks for watching!
Based on your review we bought this satnav and I’m pleased to say we are not disappointed. Bought it for a 4k miles trip around Europe. (Still on it). Only quirk seems to be GPS drop out now and then. Otherwise the fact we can do all our planning on the laptop and is syncs automatically is a big plus. Down loaded the the Tom Tom app from the apple store too as this all sync as well. Great for planning those trips on our Harley which we are towing behind our Moho. Thanks for the review. Great info as always. X
Glad you like it too! Safe travels :)
Great review, thanks. I currently have a 620 which is nearly dead so am looking for a new satnav. Considered swapping over to Garmin but speaking to a colleague who has gone the other way he’s full of praise for the TomTom. I saw this model and it’s very similar to my current one (save mines a truck/bus one atm) so looks like, due in part to your review, I’ll be buying myself a Go Max.
We have an older Version and has most of the Features you mentioned and is pretty good generally. The Speed and Weights settings you mentioned at the end you can set that on your Instrument Cluster!
great video mam we purchased this one based on your recamendation, it was tricky to get connected to my tomtom account but got there in the end, seems really good so far. thanks for a great heads up video.
Great review. Thanks Kat!
Glad it was helpful 🙃
We love watching your vids and just bought our first motorhome. After your review we bought this product but found out trying to talk to it for directions in Spain doesn't work and according to Tom tom you have to speak to it in the language of the country you are in which is going to be hilarious and may result in my husband throwing it out the window 🙄
Just used this Sat Nav for the first time and really like it but even after downloading the instruction booklet there are things not explained!!
As an example when you select a location and click drive it then normally gives you 3 alternatives - do you know what the little symbols mean? For example it will show a bridge - does this mean there’s a low bridge or does it mean this route is avoiding a low bridge? It will also show a motorway! Again is this using a motorway or avoiding one? Also noticed petrol prices are not up to date - do you know how to update the info or does it do it automatically?
Many thanks and love the videos - you have been a great help in us getting our first motorhome and making sure we knew what to expect in our first trips out.
Hi Kat, I saw you had ig mounted in the Fiat Tab/ipad holder. Are you still able to use the power cable when mounted there ir can you only run it on battery?
Thanks Kat!
You’re welcome
great vid, glad you like it. we have a Garmin caravan and motorhome club one, it does change the speed as ours is over 3.5 tonnes. its great for all the uk sites, and have used it last dec and jan in holland, germany and denmark, and lots of sites with tel no's on it.
Thanks
Great review , I am about to purchase a Motorhome friendly Sat nav , my friend has a Tom Tom for his caravan but finds the battery keeps going flat despite being plugged in it’s almost as if it consumes more power than his car charger can keep up with ?
I fell out of love with tomtom when I discovered "lifetime maps" was the lifetime of their support for the device, not the lifetime of the device. I'm surprised you don't like voice directions as I prefer this on my motorbike and use it all the time.
Hi Kat, I was just charging my new tomtom sat nav trying to find how the battery was doing when your video says it don't show when charging.
Solution to your position problem We stuck the mount to the pop up map holder, allowing screen to be clear and the blinds can be closed while camping. Next time your in our local storage yard take a look in our moho. Think you know who we are (LDD on our numerplate). Keep up the great blogs and stay safe x Les n Lorraine
Brilliant tips- thanks guys. See you soon. X
Forgot, will it work with the wifi on board, with the data only sim it, so no need to use the phone data ? Cheers, Alan.
Hi Kat, do you find this hammers your phone battery because you have to Bluetooth and tether it. Where as all the other ones I have owned usually only uses Bluetooth.
Great channel by the way as we’ve learnt a lot from it, keep up the good work love.
I haven’t noticed, but I drive with my phone plugged in to the charger so you might find that helps
Ive only had one trip in my new motorhome.... and it had to happen didn't it! I was on a lane that got smaller and smaller.... before i knew it i was in a very sticky situation. Many have advised a sat nav with dimensions. I was using the sat nav built in to the 2022 accordo .... not great!
this might be a silly question - but did you enter your dimensions with mirrors extended or folded??
Thanks for another great vid and review. Do you know if it is possible to upload the park4night POI? I have seen some comments on the internet saying that you can't?
No, you can’t, but you can add the ones you like on My Drive and upload it as a route.
@@WanderingBird thank you!!
Great videos, deposit on MH and waiting to start my adventures. Apart from the screen size, is there any difference between the Tomtom Camper Max and the Camper Tour 6" screen would you know please?
Not really as far as I know, but do check the specs to be sure.
Hi Kat
Can you explain what the two numbers 3.5 and 2.5 represent in your weights (gross/axle in t) section. Thanks
I'm assuming the 3.5 is your total weight limit but didn't understand the 2.5
3.5tonnes is max allowed vehicle weight (not necessarily the actual weight of the vehicle). 2.5t is max weight over either axle. Hope that helps!
Thank you Kat, excellent explanation as usual. We are about to purchase a motorhome sat nav, looking at the Garmin Camper 780 Advanced Camper Sat Nav. Would you say the tom tom is better, both around same price ? Cheers, Alan.
We bought a Garmin 780 a couple of years back, but the navigation is awful compared to our old tom. We were about to buy the new tomtom but the lack of over 3.5 ton speed limits has made us hesitate.
The Aguri sat nav gives speed limits according to the vehicle.
A really GOOD review & I plan to buy one! -Will Tom Tom update your Speed/Weight/Length etc.? THANK YOU! ☺
Glad it was helpful. You need to input your own vehicles measurements when you set it up. You can also move it between vehicles- just remember to change the dimensions!
Hi Kat. Can you send a location from Google Maps to it? I have lots of saved pins, and with our current Garmin we are able to do that, but didnt know if it was a Tom Tom feature?
Hi Ellie, thank you for you inquiry. We don’t currently support this feature. However, we are constantly striving to improve the experience of our users. We’ll pass this feature requirement on to our product team who will consider including it in our upcoming releases. Have a safe time on the road.😊^Harry
@@tomtomdriverscan you enter gps co ordinates from Google?
As usual, great information but I would point out that the speed limit of camper Vans/motorhomes is based on the unladen weight which should be 3050kg or less to let you drive at 70 on a dual carriageway if you're heavier, 60 is the limit. The 3500kg limit which manufacturers like to keep under is just for driving licence limits.
Hi Kate, is it possible to upload POIs from apps such as Search for Sites, France Passion etc. Many thanks
Re : Cons section...Didn't you show the initial options to set the maximum speed?
It does, but if you’re towing in Europe they can be lower on certain roads
how much?
just found the link to the TT site....£350.
I bought the Avtex Tourer Two not long ago that is around the same price.....so will stick to that at the moment.
Fair enough, but def worth considering when you’re ready to change
useful review, thanks
- disagree with the "value" of fuel prices info. You need a smart phone to access it, so why pay a real money sub when you can get the info for free via your phone by simply going to a petrol prices app in the first place. I accept that the TT version is tied to your route and so will give the info without having to search for it, but that sounds like a price just for minor convenience.
Thank you, Kat for the review of the Tom Tom satnav. We've been looking recently but can't seem to decide. Did Tom Tom give you a discount code to share with your followers for reviewing the Tom Tom? Thanks
Sadly they didn’t but if they do in the future I will certainly share it.
Anyone tried this in a Range Rover Velar with a heated windscreen? I spent a lot of money on a new Garmin/Avtex Tourer that I honestly loved but it gets absolutely no GPS signal in the car. Garmin themselves do not respond to emails so it's an expensive brick sitting in a fancy box. If the TomTom works, i'll gladly buy one. Cheers.
I haven't sorry but I'd love to know if it works.
Hi Kat I've used TomTom for years on my Motorbike along with My-Route app works a treat. Pity TomTom don't give you a discount code for your subscribers, maybe a gentle word a with them eh?
Its a shame voice activated navigation does not work in English when you are abroad you have to speak in the language of the country you are in and not many people can speak every countries language, we did contact the help desk and unfortunately there are no updates to correct this so have to manually enter destinations.
I am afraid I haven't been impressed at all with my TomTom Camper (not Max though). Today, I put in a destination, only to find it displays the route and then issued the message "your route does not comply with your vehicle profile"...and that's it! No rerouting (these are 'A'' roads in the UK), no explanation so the only option is to take the route and find out the problems in real time!.
Several hundred pounds down the drain for me 😞
One major flaw you didn’t mention is that you can’t adjust the volume once you have set the journey other than by voice control which involves shouting your instruction 6 or 7 times before it understands. I have previously had about 10 different TomTom models which all had a slider to adjust, this one has a speaker icon that just turns volume off, and no slider. Poor design decision,
The UK isn't in Europe btw is it ?. That scenic route option looks good. Bloody expensive though !. Thanks for the review.
Ha- geographically it is 🙃
So it does not adjust European speed limits for over 3.5 ton. That's just put me off buying one.
We are 4.2ton and it could get us into trouble.
Lifetime is is only five years, after that they stop publishing updates. It’s the same with garmin and irritating having to buy a new unit every five years.
I still getting Garmin Lifetime updates for my OZ NZ map 9 years later
Do nothing that app can't do. I would rather buy an app for an iPad 10 times cheaper. Don't want extra peace of hardware that is basically wrapper for a nice software.
That's your choice, I tried most of the apps and have all let me down at the most awkward of times.. Glad it works for you, but for me it's better using a tool to do the right job. Its divererted us around a few potential dangers, proberbly saving thousands in repair bills.
