I have ALS so weakness is my reason for needing a wheelchair and even as significant as my diagnosis was at first I still felt weird sitting in my wheelchair and moving my legs in front of people. It was a really weird and silly phobia but my guess is it’s from growing up thinking only paralyzed people use wheelchairs.

Definitely feel uncomfortable if I stand up from my chair. Though I feel less of an imposter when using my chair and/or cane. I can walk short distances, but anything beyond 50 yards comes with a price. I opted for my cane in a recent grocery store trip because I knew I would have to stand up. It was too much walking with the cane and I was tired and in pain the rest of the day and into the next.
There are so many misconceptions about disabilities.
