    I've only eve managed to repair a couple of DAB radios with the Frontier Silicon IC's.. There's so little info out there on them that I don't bother with them anymore.
    Thanks for the video
    Regards
    John

      Unfortunately there is no proper documentation on these modules, only advertising. That makes service pretty much impossible.

    i would take an old USB-Hub on a PC, connect GND and then rund through all combination of D+/D- on the pins... i would expect them to be neighbors... or at maximum 2 pins away.
    Probably at one combination the PC will sound the typical chime for "new hardware connected".

      I wouldn't have the patience needed. Maybe if this unit was worth anything...

      Perhaps this SM helps. Looks like a similar Venice6 used

    That silver square on the pcb is a wifi module. Would have been interesting to see inside that metal can.

    Ich habe ein ähnliches Gerät, zusätzlich mit Bluetooth. Bluetooth ist auf dem unteren Board.
    Leider stellt das Gerät keine Bluetooth Verbindung her, außerdem
    ist das Ausgangs Audiosignal viel zu leise - die Lautstärkeregelung macht nur aus oder minimum.
    Wenn ich einen externen DAC an Digital-out anschließe, geht alles außer Bluetooth.
    Habt Ihr eine Idee, wonach man suchen kann?

    I don't know if you saw, or if it makes much difference now, but at 9.58 I think, you show the back of the long circuit board, the LCD sits on. You show the print out ( I think that's what you said ) it says RST on the top left ? Could that not be a hint to reset it.

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  7 лет назад +1

      That is only for the LCD, not for the faulty module.

  • @neutronstorm
    @neutronstorm 7 лет назад +2

    The error is probably due to corrupt firmware and the boot loader has switched to firmware upload mode. No amount of resetting will fix it without a new firmware upload I think.
    It's likely that the screen is updated with a serial link across that strip. It will only change if the cpu sends an update. You could probably unplug the processor module totally and the display wouldn't change so shorting out the pins may have been having an effect just that the screen didn't get updated.

      They made it to be 19"/43 cm wide, so that it would fit into a regular stereo system...

    Seems like a good Arduino project of some sort. There might be pads on that board somewhere for a USB connection., or some of those pins might be USB interface pins. They have to program the thing some how. Problem is finding the pins / pads. Could be good ol' fashion serial though.

    I have purchased a MUVID 715-2. Remote control works, but the device cannot be operated with it. What could be broken there? Ich habe einen MUVID 715-2 erworben. Fernbedienung funktioniert, aber das Gerät lässt sich nicht damit bedienen. Was könnte da defekt sein?

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  4 года назад

      Sicher, dass die Fernbedienung zum Gerät gehört? Ist der Sensor am Gerät in Ordnung, also sauber und in der richtigen Position, um aus seinem Fenster in der Gerätefront herauszuschauen? Das kann natürlich auch ein Fehler in der Firmware sein...

      DrCassette Ja, FB gehört zum Gerät, steht sogar IR 715-2 drauf. Vielen Dank für die Antwort. Im Internet gibts eine .rem-Datei für die Fernbedienung. Wie wird die in das Gerät eingespielt?

      Problem gelöst! Die Infrarot Empfänger Diode war defekt, die habe ich ausgetauscht 😊

    Hate Frontier Silicon - they won't even give you a data sheet.

      They certainly aren't helpful...

    Is it true that these 715-2 do DAB+? That makes a cheap DAB+ tuner ....

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  6 лет назад

      Unfortunately not, the 715-2 receives only the original DAB standard which is no longer in use. DAB+ does not work.

    • @sintsixtus
      @sintsixtus 6 лет назад

      But it DOES have the DAB+ chip, it is a question of software ?

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  4 года назад

      @@sintsixtus Sorry for the late reply, if I remember correctly Muvid once said they would issue a firmware update to enable DAB+, so the hardware must be capable of receiving DAB+. But unfortunately Muvid did not...

      @@DrCassette Does Muvid still exist? I now own a Muvid IR 925, without remote control. It sometimes hangs while starting up ... the rolling cursor, like on an Apple computer ... I guess in "Media Player mode" it will stop searching ... Anybody ideas? I might sell it ... The sound of this tuners is VERY GOOD!

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  4 года назад

      @@sintsixtus I don't think Muvid still exists, I can't find their website, and all Muvid products I found on Ebay or Amazon are old. I currently have an Internet Radio Receiver that looks like a Muvid, but it's branded as "VR Radio". It's pretty good, but doesn't have an FM or DAB tuner.

    THE CASE COULD BE REUSED TO PUT OR MAKE AN AMP OR SOMETHING?

      I am keeping the case for future projects.

      maybe with a raspberry pi or something like that and use to stream?

    • @DrCassette
      @DrCassette  7 лет назад +1

      I thought about putting a raspberry pi into the unit, but since the display can't be used due to the lack of documentation, I could pretty much use any other case for that as well.

    LCD looks like a typical parallel type that can be used on most hobbyist micro controllers.

      I don't know much about this stuff. As I said in the video, a friend of mine knows more, maybe he can make the display work.
