  • Repair of radio Imperial DABMAN i200.
Symptoms: when powering on you see the logo, enter the main menu. Further movement through the menu is very delayed with frizzes up to 2-5 seconds.
Diagnostics: connection via UART to NuvoTon NUVOTON SoC N32905U3DN
    Cause: damaged firmware.
Method of repair: firmware flashing in SPI flash (25Q32).
    Firmwares for:
    Imperial DABMAN i150 tn9thk3b
    Imperial DABMAN i200 tn9shk61
    Imperial DABMAN i450 tn9shm6k

If you flash REV2 firmware version to a normal (without any additional marks) i250 - the device will run (most functions will work: LAN, WiFi, iradio, Bluetooth), but the digital (DAB) and normal (FM) receiver will not work (probably a different receiver hardware)

Mr Alex, is it possible to update software for DABMAN i450? Annoying software bugs related with losing Wi-fi access and forgot wi-fi password and liked internet radio stations.

I can't advise without seeing the device in front of me. If you have enough skills and equipment before starting any actions make a backup copy of flash memory on the programmer. This is mandatory. Then you can experiment with any other version. But before you do anything with the software (even in this case it is advisable to make a backup copy of spi flash) check the power supply (possibly by replacing the power supply), and also check the electrolytic capacitors (some may have blown or lost capacity) - this may also be the cause of unstable operation. Regards, Alex.

Update: I sent email to Dabman support team and they send me improved Software which I could install from USB. Maybe please add note that People should contact with Dabman support team.

@@piotruxd3412 I have pinned your message. Indeed, you are right. It is best to contact official support first. However, I made this material for those who have nothing to lose, the firmware files are in the video description. Thank you for your attention.

Hi Alex. Thanks to you I was able to repair my radio. But my approach was different (because my radio is a Sky Vision DAB 70 IR). For this solution you don't need a flasher, just a UART adapter and minimal knowledge of Linux. You access the nuvoton file system via UART and find a folder /flash. All configuration files (*.cfg) are in this folder. In my case the file "iradio.cfg" looked strange (around 500KB, normal is around 1KB). The WIFI settings are saved in this file. After deleting the file, restart the radio. The file is recreated by the system and the radio is repaired. You just have to reconnect the WIFI. Advantage: all user-defined settings remain. Just in case, you should save the file beforehand. Either copy it to a USB stick with "cp" or display it with "cat" and save it in a text document on the computer. I think you can repair any model using this method. Regards, Alex.

But the firmware from Dabmann 200i worked well on Sky Vision DAB 70 IR. Only the physical buttons were swapped around and so was the remote control. But you can correct that with the original configuration files. Or you can play around a bit with the data sets in them. (Buttons: "/flash/KeyPadMap.cfg", remote control: "/flash/IRMap.cfg"). I'm still considering whether I do maybe install the firmware from Dabmann because of Spotify.

    Hello
I do have a Majority Pembroke 2 / same as XORO DAB 600 iR V3 and it fails booting
it was not starting at all. Just the backlight is lid and thats it. no picture on screen.
after about 20 min waiting in this state then suddenly it starts booting and work.
disconnecting it for short time, e.g. to switch the position of the readio to another room was no problem. But disconnecting it from power for a longer time (longer then 10 or 15 min) will cause the NO START issue to happen again.
At the moment it is unresponsive complete (Just backlight on, no picture on screen, a bearly noticeable pulsing in backlight brightness is all i can see.)
do you have had this issue on this radio already? what did you say to look for the cause ?
    Capacitors? Powersupply?
i already test it with a labratory powersupply 9V 2A with no change in behaviour.
    Best wishes
    DC2NI

      Hello DC2NI,
It is difficult to assess malfunctions without seeing the device in front of you.
But I agree with your approach to the problem - it’s worth starting with the power supplies and how they are distributed across the board. Indeed, it often happens that the cause of the malfunction is secondary voltage sources (DCDC, LDO, etc.)
Just choose a search strategy and go with it. For example, if possible, find a document for your CoC and check for the presence of supply voltages (or if they are too low, etc.).
      Best regards, Alex

Finding the documents to my Coc and check the voltages is a good advice.
Despite that I will change nearly all capacitors on the powerboard anyway.
Thanks for the advice and for this interesting video.
      Happy Easter

Got an dabman i200 which freezes in main menue on fifth bar. The SoC ans IC9 are getting very hot.does anyone have an idea?

    • @alex-log
      @alex-log  11 месяцев назад

if IC9 = U9 in dabman i200 with marking S5EGH SOT23-5 then most of all it LDO. Output of U9 goes to VDD18 (assume +1.8 volts) pins SoC. If you have nothing to lose, get the datasheet for this chip and try lifting the pins labeled *VDD18* (VDD18, MVDD18, UD_VDD18, etc) one by one until the SoC (and/or U9 also) stops heating. Good luck.

Hi, I do not have firmware for this particular model. Everything I have, I attached in the video description to the google drive. I have an assumption which I want to check on the reason why this happens: maybe there was a power failure or something like that when writing to the SPI flash IC and as a result a corrupted settings file. My plan is to connect via SoC UART and try to delete that bad looking settings file (making a backup of course). Maybe the application will recreate it and it will be correct and all the problems will go away. Or I will try to add this file from the factory firmware (via mounted USB pen drive). I assume they are relatively the same for the entire model group, but I could be wrong. I'll probably do a second part on this radio and show what I got.
If you can dump it with a programmer please send me an email whith dump to iamalexlog@gmail.com and I will try to analyze it. If I see the same problem I will let you know about it in the reply letter but I can't promise that it will solve the problem. At least we can try to solve the problem. Thank you.

@@alex-log Hi. I ordered a programmer. As soon as i get it is will extract the firmware from the spi flash. And yes. The 5v rail on this device died ( specifically the FR9888). Which i repaired. After this the fault appeared
