- I'm taking another look at the PURE Evoke 1s and Flow DAB Radios very kindly sent over to me by Lee.
Will I have any more luck this time!?

Thanks very much for posting this. I ordered a new display, fitted it, and it is now back to new. Thanks also for mentioning the Austria Microsystems AS3654 power management IC. I designed this part of the circuit for Pure Digital when I worked for Austria Microsystems back in 2006. It is good to see my design lives on

Just bought a Pure Elan Connect+ on RUclipsr Techmoan's recommendation, which is why I think the algorithm sent me here. Currently having fun reverse engineering it without removing any screws!
I coudln't justify the price of a new screen either. It didn't take me long to realise the hobby of 'fixing things', must start with the hobby of 'collecting broken spares'.
Spot on there Phil! I'm slowly growing my collection of spares! It's difficult having to order small components all the time and (in some cases) having to guess the correct ones!
Source for 1S Screens? Was it AliExpress or BangGood? Or...?
This inspired me to fix the screen on my evoke Marshall. And it now works perfectly. Thanks very much. Love the channel I’ve discovered due one quick RUclips search for Evoke screen repair. I am now a subscriber. Keep up the good work 👍🏻

@@StezStixFix they come up on eBay quite regularly. And quite a few have the faulty screen so can go cheaply.

Had a few myself, mostly so the birds have something to listen to when I leave the house lol. Great little things for the price

I've ordered a ridiculously expensive screen, so I might be good, but I really appreciate the offer my brother Steve. Not even sure it'll fix the problem, but I've now convinced myself that I've fixed it and that I just can't see what's going on! 😬

I have been digging and I found 3 candidates, So I'll have something to eat and have a check to see IF I can mimic your issue, maybe help trace things if it is a chip fault. 👍🏻
That would be awesome, brother Steve! If it is the display driver ic, I might be able to salvage that off the other board! Asuming that one is good, that is. And we all know what happens when we assume! 😂

After ten minutes of random button pressing I just received Six Music on the Evoke F4 I bought on eBay. Now it is time to buy a display. What would be useful would be to know the menu structure below the home key.

Well spotted, Ned! My old Yihua one gave up last week. It melted itself into oblivion! I thought it was about time I got something a bit safer! Only used it the once so far, but it seems really good! 👍

What is that white thing sticking over the second and third vents down on the back of your microscope? It's been there for months. It's giving me OCD!
😂 Now you've triggered my OCD! I'm gonna have to sort that out. It's a little Quality Control sticker. Because it's on the rear, I don't see it. But, consider it gone! 😁
It's easier to see than do...to access the internal screws without damaging anything is difficult.
Thank you for this - someone dropped a 1S on me at a Repair Café at the weekend and I was given no info about it - seems it is just the display after all (I didn't realise the on/off switch was the volume control 🤦♂) - we see the Pure and Roberts DAB radios a lot but more often than not we can't get very far and they end up as landfill 😥
P.S. What was the part number for the display please?

Hi BeoGeek! It's a Sony ZV-1 camera. Really like it! I actually record on to an SD card and transfer files to my PC for editing. Keeps everything nice and simple for me! 👍
@@StezStixFix Wait so you record with 1x Sony for both the front-facing content and overhead? Or do you have 2x cameras?
@@beogeek I have 2! I was lucky enough to find a 2nd hand one for a good price, and I had to get it. Much better than the old Canon camcorder I was using before.

you mentioned that when you power it on that it has memory and would turn on to where it was prior to turning the unit off. so there has to be some sort of internal battery. have you tried disconnecting that and seeing what happens when you turn the unit back on?
Great idea! I did have a quick look but couldn't find an actual battery. I assume it's one of the capacitors but wasn't sure which one!
@@StezStixFix if it was a capacitor it would have to be a short term memory as they would slowly drain but take a big resistor to each capacitor to drain them and see if that does anything

My thought on reballing is that using solder paste with the stencil you got would be much simpler.
Did you ever revisit this revisit with a new screen?

One of the major problems with some of these DAB radios is that some of them run on 5v DC only but yet the DC input jack is exactly the same size as the common 12v DC power adaptor jack, and its quite easy to mix them up and plug the wrong adaptor in and let out the magic smoke, what a shitty idea, no doubt the Chinese was behind that one.

Modern digital radios are rubbish and so unreliable. I have a collection of old Japanese multiband radios. Most of them have never been repaired and still work perfectly . Roberts radios are terrible for screen faults . eBay is full of faulty ones .
