I went vegan overnight. I became vegan for ethical reasons. Being vegan has made me happier than I have ever been! More energy! More Joy! More Focus! Seriously. If people really knew that being vegan could change their life as dramatically as it has changed mine in a just two months, WOW! I don't eat processed foods. I sleep better, I think better, I've lost weight...I've taken up hiking, I don't have joint pain... the list goes on. The first thing that happened was the hard lumps in my breasts went away. My doctor told me I would always have benign hard lumps and not to worry , however, after going vegan, the lumps went away all together. I attribute that to the dairy being removed from my diet. And the puffiness in my neck, arms, chin and back went down immediately. Again, the dairy. I'm rambling... Vegan - It's Great for the Animals, the Earth and For ME! That's all!
Renate Seldon Yes yes yes!! The Joy factor is serious, right?! If people only knew how wonderful it is to live this way. That's why we have to be glowing happy examples for the world ;) xo
Another Tip: Start eating vegan Breakfasts, then when you get comfortable with that start eating vegan breakfasts and lunches, then when you're comfortable with that start eating vegan breakfasts, lunches and suppers :) (and snacks too) =)
TheSUPERHAPPY1 hey! I want to go vegan, but I'm scared I'll lose too much weight. All the vegans I know are way too skinny and that frightens me cause I like the shape of my body and I don't want to lose it. How can I avoid losing too much weight and still be vegan?
congratulations! I've been vegan 8 years! It's great. You probably know about checking your B12. I knew someone who didn't and well, she did get better. Best wishes!
My little brother is kind of unhealthy and a over weight. He feels bad about it and has tried everything to lose weight. He decided to stop trying stupid diets, and decided to become a vegan and exercise. He was kinda nervous about it so I told him I'd do it with him, as a way of support. And I really needed these tips to help him. Thank you so much for your helpful videos!
yeah I'm not currently a vegan or vegetarian right now but seriously considering trying veganism for a month or so as I feel like crap and always tired and unmotivated. I hear from vegans that it's a life changing experience but I'm not sure. I will try it out tho.
Same here ProbablyPublic! I am neither vegan or vegetarian, but i have cut out all meats with the exception of poultry and seafood. And we only have the poultry on the days where the meat craving overtakes us. But beef and pork is out! On the regular days we have fish (pollock, salmon mostly). We do dedicate 2 days a week for non meat dishes. We do eat a lot of Morning-star products as well. See your doctor and get your blood work done, and he/she will let you know why you are feeling so bad. I did and my blood work was horrible. Deficient in Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, protein (and I'm a meat eater) and Iron. So yeah, I had to change my diet quickly. I am also lactose intolerant, and to make matters worse, I don't digest veggies well, but i eat them anyways. But I take a good probiotic and it eases the digestion. I hope everything works out well for you. Sounds like a vegan diet for health is the best way to go.
I looked at some other "Benefits of Veganism" videos and those people are a turn off. Right off the jump they are showing gross, gory videos of animals being slaughtered, and get all preachy about ethics. I don't do condemnation of anyone and their lifestyle or diet choices. I have my own reasons why I choose to eat a few vegan meals a week, but i do not criticize others who do not do this. I'll continue to watch SweetPotatoSoul's videos over theirs.
Hi Jenne, Thank you for your videos that is helping me to go Vegan. Today I made Red beans stew with coconut milk with brown rice and my Mom who's Jamaican and love her oxtail and curried goat devoured it. My husband who is not crazy about going Vegan devoured my stew and I made the black bean burger minus the pumpkin and hemp seeds and my husband went for seconds!!!! Love The Newbee Vegan, Asha
Any recommendations for family dinners? My family is full of meat-eaters and anything they have on the side is cooked in butter and/or milk and covered in cheese. I've been MOSTLY vegan for quite a while. It's easy to eat vegan at home and at most restaurants, but family dinners.... Quite impossible.
Watching this because I’m thinking about giving it a try. My health hasn’t been great for the past few years and honestly being vegan is the only thing I didn’t do.
I feel like I was Blessed because I became Vegan overnight. I actually decided to go on the Daniel Fast for spiritual reasons. About day 4 I noticed that wow I feel great. day 6 I decided I wasn't gonna go back to my old eating habits. I had no intentions in going Vegan, but I have no regrets at all...
I went vegan overnight after watching kalel kittens video on the subject and her recommendations. I am so happy to see such a large and growing community that I knew nothing about before. Thank you for spreading awareness and voicing your passion! It is extremely helpful! :)
+Eusaybia Vera Fantastic!! Good for you :) I love this big community too. It's my pleasure to share my passion and this lifestyle. Thank you so much for watching 😘
I tried going vegan 2 years ago after I watched Earthlings but I only lasted a few months because I didn't know how to structure my diet. I ended up following a vegetarian diet instead. But back in April I did a 30 day water fast and that made my transition extremely easy. Completely reset my taste buds and I got over my dairy addiction. Now I'm a HCLF vegan and it's not as difficult as I had imagined. I wish I would have kept with it 2 years ago.
***** Yippee!! That's so fantastic to hear. Congratulations on your success Mimi. Sometimes it takes a while to find our footing. Now you're doin' it :)
I went vegetarian about 6 months ago, thinking I could never give up cheese and go vegan. I discovered nice cream and just tried sweet potatoes for breakfast for the first time and it's love! What other amazing food things are vegans hiding that I never knew as an omnivore?
I baked my sweet potatoes the night before then in the morning I added added 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter (or any nut butter) with cinnamon, nutmeg and some walnut pieces and reheated it at work. So easy and savory! I also want to try adding small pieces of an apple to it. I have seen some recipes add a mashed banana.
Great tips! I'm not vegan, but I also wouldn't call myself vegetarian either. I tend to eat a lot of meatless meals 1) to make myself eat more fruits and vegetables and 2) I noticed how much I would spend on meat while grocery shopping and was annoyed LOL. Most of my meals tend to be focused on vegetables, fruits, quinoa/brown rice, and trying to find other ways to get in protein. I stumbled across the Meatless Monday movement about 3 years ago and thought it would be a great way to challenge my way of thinking about what constitutes a complete meal. For many of us, a complete meal consisted of a piece of meat surrounded by a carb and one serving of vegetables, and when I saw that I could go at least one day out of the week eating meatless, I tried another week and it just went from there. Also, I noticed I wasn't eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, so I was ok with limiting meats so that I could get in more fruits and vegetables. Plus I drink more almond milk than cow milk these days, though I haven't tried any vegan cheeses or egg substitutes yet. I do like some of the meatless meats. Last week, I used the Morning Star crumbles to make faux ground beef with homemade pasta sauce on top on zucchini noodles, and it was great!
Nicole Clark My family LOVES the crumbles!! We use them for chili and tacos. I like the veggie burgers as well, but not the black bean ones so much. I think we are in the same boat. I eat a lot of meatless meals, but wouldn't call myself a vegetarian. I love seafood too much. :-)
I have been incorporating vegan meals into my regimen for roughly 3 months (not with the intention to go vegan I just wanted to eat more fruits/veggies but ultimately had to go vegan overnight. I went out to eat and the food left me bloated for nearly 12 hours. I woke up with my stomach just as round and tender as it was when I get to bed. I had Greek yogurt, fish, and eggs in my fridge/freezer when I decided to go completely plant based. I am going into week 3. It isn't easy but I am enjoying it. I made the mistake (rather really poor decisions bc I knew what I was doing) of meat twice since I decided to transition and my body said "girl you know you can't eat this...matter fact I'll teach you the hard way and I'll bloat." And that's exactly what happened no more meat or animal products for me now. Just need to maintain my will power and do some research to keep me motivated.
This is a great video. When I started going Vegan a month ago for severe health reasons I was going crazy because I had no choice but to go cold turkey. My husband trying to keep me encouraged took me to this really nice Vegan restaurant. The food was aaamazing. I ordered the Chick'n and waffles with a CBD iced tea that took my experience over the top. With a big smile on my face and a tear in my eye I looked at my husband and said Yes... Yes I can live this way lol. When I started my journey I went through all the five stages of grief and now I look forward to trying out new recipes. Now Vegan and CBD is my life. I am starting to feel much better. Thank you for posting this video.
Hey! New follower--thanks for all your delicious recipes and ideas. Question!! Can you make something delicious with polenta?? I live overseas in Polenta country. It's hard to be vegan in Italy, but this seems like a good way to cook without dairy. Let us know if you have experimented with polenta! Thanks
Thank you! I went to my cities vegfest and decided to retry going vegan from a lacto ovo eating. Question: Have you addressed athletics and being vegan? Thanks again.
I’m really considering going vegan. I’m hoping it will help me with my lack of energy, and my stomach problems. However, I love fruit, but veggies have always been eh (unless there’s melted cheese on them) which worries me a lot...
Thank you sooooo much for this! I want to be vegan and I don't like that I start and stop, so used to the non-vegan things I get so upset when I don't have a full vegan day. I need to look up recipes so I can eat meals rather than random veggies
Hello I'm a diabetic, I wanted to know if I go vegan will that help with my blood sugar numbers? And what's the difference between vegan and vegetarian
Даша Шаханович Yes I have tried both. It's been a while though. I didn't like them at the time, but I'd like to give them another go now that I'm older and my tastes are more refined ;)
hello! I was wondering if you could make a video on what to eat when you are in a situation with friends who are not vegan or vegetarian? It might help some teens such as myself who feel uncomfortable in eating situations!
Focus on whole foods (veggies, fruit, beans, lentils, whole grains, nuts, seeds, & shrooms). Grains and beans are especially iron rich AND high in other nutrients (like vitamin C) that increase absorption of iron :)
Carmela Clemons Awesome! Good for you :)In addition to the tips in this video, check out the annotated links in the vids. And visit my website for plenty of free recipes www.sweetpotatosoul.com If you want personal guidance, email me about health coaching! jenne@sweetpotatosoul.com
What's make you become a vegan? Because I'm trying out something new for my new year, you know, I have try to minimize my consumption of animal products and to more plant-based products.
Carmela Clemons I went vegan for ethical reasons. Because I love animals and don't think it's right for them to be exploited for our benefit. Not in this day and age, at least, when we have access to so many non-animal foods. And we know that plant-based diets are healthier, so that's great!
I loved it!!! I just transition to vegan and I'm loving every step of the way. I've been thinking of changing my lifestyle since christmas, but I didn't make the definitive change till a couples days ago. I am 19 years old, so I talked about it with my mother and she is really supportive, but I don't know how to talk about this with my friends... any tips?? Lovee you xx
Hey! I'm in the process of transitioning to a vegan diet. Does anyone have any tips to make sure I have all the necessary dietary requirements? Protein, B-12, Iron, Etc? Thank you :)
Susan Ditzler Yes! The China Study, Starch Solution, Vegan for Her, Where the Blind Horse Sings, Good Karma Diet, Living the Farm Sanctuary Life, 30 day Vegan Challenge. Cookbooks: All by Bryant Terry, all by Chloe Coscarelli, My New Roots, Kansha, and Salad Samurai.
If I follow you an your videos I get nothing done so I'm gonna check out the 21day vegan then take a break. Thanks alot for the knowledge I'm learning and enjoying.
I would love to eventually go Vegan! My eating patterns aren't too great as a Vegetarian yet though so I think I have some work to do before moving up to Vegan. Thanks so much for the awesome advice though!!
hello. i just happened to stumble upon your page. i'm starting my 30 day vegan plan tomorrow to see how it affects my type 1 diabetes. i stopped eating red meat and pork over 20 yrs ago, so i think cutting out fish and chicken for 30 days should be alright. i enjoyed ur video. any other tips you can give a neophyte such as myself?
Ulysses Garrett Hi Ulysses! Congratulations on starting your vegan journey :) How is it going? There is a lot of evidence that this will be helpful for your type 1 diabetes. Have you seen this yet? www.pcrm.org/health/health-topics/diet-and-diabetes-recipes-for-success Thanks for watching my video. I would follow the guidelines recommended by PCRM (link above), and be kind to yourself. As you transition into a new way of eating, and are no longer eating familiar foods, you may experience cravings. Cravings are completely natural. Don't give into the ones for animal products, because you need to go through this period of time to get them out of your system so your body in a way can create new habits, and rely on different sources of nutrients. Let me know how it goes!!
Thanks for replying back. I'm four days in so far, so good. I'm taking a vegan cooking class tomorrow so I'm hoping that helps as well. I will look at the video as well. Thanks again. I will keep you informed.
I am currently transitioning...still working on cheese and eggs. I am trying to figure out how many calories I should be consuming. I know some say to not be concerned with caloric intake, but others say the opposite. Should I just be sure I eat enough of the food groups? Can you say confused?! LOL I appreciate you mentioning meetup.com. I was thinking this morning that I need to find like minded people to share information. My hubby and kids are not on board with me...not even one day a week. Thanks hon for all of the suggestions!
ThePrimstitcher Hello! I know, it does get confusing sometimes. Here is my advice; eat mostly whole foods (limit processed stuff like Gardein, store-bought snacks, and condiments), most of those "whole foods" should be vegetables and fruits, eat plenty of food to get enough calories and feel nourished. Eat more healthy, unprocessed food when you're hungry. Those tips go for everyone, vegan or not, but I can't give you any specific advice since I don't know your lifestyle and specific needs and health goals. If you ever want to talk more email me at jenne@thenourishingvegan.com xo
What advice would you give people who want to go vegan but don't particularly like salad? I hear this question a lot. 'Oh I could never go vegan. I don't like salad' or 'i don't like rabbit food' etc.
They can eat cooked veggies or smoothies to get their greens. I used to be one of these "I don't like salads" people when I was a teenager, and now I realize I didn't know a thing about salad. If they were interested in going vegan they would find a salad or some "rabbit food" they do like :)
I'm a Turkish guy and we Turks love meat! I do want to transition but my worry is going out to turkey (living in the uk) for a holiday and not being able to find things that are dairy free. should i be worried how difficult becoming a vegan may be?
Hi,great tips but I was wondering can you make a video on how to get your teeth white without all the bad chemicals or less harmful products that whiten your teeth?
Hi sweetpotatoesoul I have watched many of your videos and I find them very fascinating, I am quite a large man and one of the reasons I want to go vegan is that I would like to loss body fat and enhance my muscle and strength, what is stopping me at the moment from doing the transition is that I am very lazy when it comes to cooking and being in the kitchen, also as I am not working food budget is very tight and also there are some foods that I am allergic to or I just do not like such as avocado, kell and I probably don't know how to cook them correctly, also what your friend was saying in the video about time spent in preparation, would it be possible to prepare some foods in advance. I have also looked at other videos to do with vegan bodybuilders and powerlifters and all of these people are living a vegan life but they seem to have plenty of time and money at their disposal something that I don't have so how can you help me with my transition. I appreciate some of your comments about maybe starting the day with a smoothie or a couple of days vegan during the week, but for a person like me that weighs about 130kg and suffer from back and joint issues everything seems hard although I can see how the vegan lifestyle would benefit me, and don't get me wrong I have watched documentaries on the way animals are farmed and slaughtered and this has opened my eyes to how harmful meat is also being a man of God I would like to get back to real living that God intended for us and that also means not eating meat. When my family ask me why I want to go vegan my answer is usually this, I say to them 'of all the animals that man eats how many of them eat flesh?' When they think about it they usually cannot come up with an answer, therefore I use the argument that if these animals only eat plants why are we as humans eating dead flesh, I am sure you can see my reasoning but obviously that is not the only argument I use, so I am asking you out of the sincerity of my heart, please, please, please help me to transition over to a real and lasting lifestyle as a vegan I hope you will respond or you can send me a response on my email: frbeckles@yahoo.co.uk I look forward to hearing from you.
Francis Beckles - You can cook up big batches of quinoa or sweet potatoes at the weekend and freeze individual portions in the freezer to use whenever you want to add some to whatever meal you decide to make during the week to bulk it up without having to prep it all the time. Visit supermarkets at the end of the day when they are marking down the produce, it's so much easier. My daughter bought about 60 bananas for about £2 just because they were ripe and freckly and no one would buy them. Chop and freeze them in portions of 2 bananas per bag to use in smoothies and to make "nice cream" , yummy, just add whatever fruit you like or cacao powder or peanut butter for a delicious ice cream.
I love, love your videos, they are truly inspirational. I'm working my way way into becoming more health conscious and your videos are working to that effect. I tried to go into the 21-day vegan blueprint link but it's about loans. Can you please provide the actual link? I'm looking forward to incorporating it into my diet.
Im trying to go vegan. Just really started thinking about it. Now I'm watching vids to learn more. My biggest concern is meal prepping. I'm thinking about videoing my transition and journey. Not sure yet. So scared. My channel will be called vegan black. Still not sure yet on the video part. Veganism sounds like the most correct way of eating.
marcus winbush Yes yes yes!!! I'm so happy to hear that Marcus :) Meal prep is super important and helpful. Keep it simple though. That'll make it easy to manage and maintain. At the beginning of the week prepare plenty of grains, beans, and veggies (roast sweet potatoes, steam broccoli, etc). Also make some delicious sauces (or buy some) to top each dish with. Herbs are also flavorful, healthy, and easy additions to quick meals. Good luck! Let me know if you start your channel Vegan Black!
quick question......Is it best to detox or cleanse? I currently do not eat meat but have a serious sugar addiction which I crave (and eat) sweets that are not vegan. Help!!!
+Mac You don't need to cleanse. Just put your focus into making good choices and creating new habits. More water, plenty of rest and self care Be kind to yourself while you fight the cravings, 3 days I would expect. Do you need the extra calories that you get from the sweets, perhaps eat more or eat accidently vegan sweets?
Jenné - loved the video (as always!!) I have been vegan for some months now, but I have noticed quite a high weight gain since transitioning - attributed to higher fat alternatives (e.g. coconut yogurt which has none of the protein but all of the fat vs. dairy yogurt/getting protein in through nuts which are of course calorifically dense) and I generally have more trouble with portion sizing because I don't always feel full even though my plates are full of veggies and proteins too, as oppose to a pescetarian lifestyle that I was happy with before.. but I want to persevere!! Do you have any way of managing these sometimes sudden cravings for more food/this apparent inability to control how much one is eating? Stay beautiful and as informative as you are.
hellokitty1050 Hey! Thanks so much for watching, and for your question. First off, since I don't have the full picture of what you're eating and your lifestyle, my advice below is going to be speculative.... Re: weight gain, I would say lower your fat intake (even if it's healthy fat) if you aren't happy with the weight you are at. For all I know it could be your bodies natural happy weight, but if that's not what you like then you can always make an alteration. Proteins like lentils, tempeh, quinoa, and peas are great together (or separate), served with non-starchy veggies like greens! Greens should be the main part of your plate if you want to lose weight. Everything else comes on top. If you're craving more food, eat more. But again, make it nutrient rich greens and other veggies if you are concerned about weight gain or maintenance. Depending on the craving it could be a call for a certain nutrient, so make sure you're constantly eating a balanced diet. I really hope that helps. I don't know enough about your diet and lifestyle to give real informed advice, but if you want more guidance email me jenne@thenourishingvegan.com
You can add a vegan protein powder to any vegan yoghurt that is low on protein. That might help you feel fuller. Eating fat doesn't really make you fat. But eating more calories than you need for your activity level will put on the pounds. Fat helps you feel satisfied, so look to reduce sugar intake first.
I've been trying to transition into a vegan/vegetarian for so LONGG! but unfortunately my parents absolutely refuse im a 15 y/o guy and my parents don't believe that i can get protein from a vegan diet.help? what can i tell them so that i can go about it!
Yazan Matar Have them watch the documentary Food Choices. Great help it explains alllll of the protein information, and just the vegan life. The doc is on Netflix
I have a random question for vegan people: what vegan eat in thanksgiving and other important events like this I AM tryint to go go on a vegan life'style but even after watching this kind of video i feel a bit lost. so advices will always be welcomed any help will be awesome!
+Like A Dream Hey! I like to veganize traditional recipes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I make sweet potato pie, stuffing, mac & cheese, lentil loaf, and everything in between. Most anything can be made vegan. Check out my website for more recipes www.sweetpotatosoul.com
I decided to change my eating habits in February of 2013. I was ready to give up all animal products except for cheese, so that's what I did. Then by March of 2013, I was ready to let go of cheese as well. Never had an issue, or problem since. Then just in January of this year (2015), I decided that aesthetically I wanted to be a healthier example of vegan goodness, so I've opted to adopt whole plant-based vegan eating habits, with strong leanings towards The Starch Solution, giving up processed foods, as well as oils. I've felt much healthier, and have lost a good 25 pounds in the past 2 months!
I want to go vegan but my parents and I are worried about soy intake, we have heard that only fermented soy is healthy for you; and that it is one of the only ways to get protein. is this true or is it a misconception?
so many other sources of protein other than soy. also, alot of misconceptions about soy being bad for you. Some people have intolerance to soy, but most people are perfectly fine with soy. Alot of misinformation you and family may have heard about soy actually comes from the meat, dairy, egg industry that doesn't want the competition to affect their profits
For me what really helped when I went vegan was thinking when and in what situations would I use meat and/or dairy, and then finding replacements for that. So for an example, I've always loved salads and my go to salad was chicken salad with romaine lettuce and cukes and tomatoes and dressing. But when I went vegan, the salad just wasn't the same without the chicken. So then I thought what could replace the chicken. And I didn't really have access to a health food store to get faux chicken and all that, plus I'm on a fixed income, plus my body doesn't do well with really processed foods, so I started putting beans in my salad and it worked wonderfully! Beans are super cheap and there are so many varieties. So yeah, when I first went vegan, I was eating a lot of beans (happily). Now that I've been vegan for a couple years now, I realize that I didn't need to eat as many beans as I thought I would. That there are so many veggie sources of protein and getting enough protein is really easy and almost effortless. I mean, even a banana has 1 gram of protein.
any suggestions for cheese? love the vegan lifestyle and i'm doing great i feel like its pretty easy but sometimes i just want some cheese. i know dairy makes me feel crappy so i don't cave but i have been having a hard time finding one that i like, i just want something that taste close in flavor. i have tried daiya on numerous occasions and i feel like its too sweet for me( anyone else have that issue)
Try mixing nutritional yeast with ground nuts and seeds and use it like Parmesan cheese. There must be recipes on the web for the proportions. A good commercial brand is Parma! that used to be just nutritional yeast, ground walnuts, salt, and love.... FDA made them take love off the label, and they also added ground sunflower seeds and hemp seeds more recently. Nice cheesy taste and some decent protein as well. You can put it on pasta, cooked veg, pizza, sandwiches, soups, etc. Follow Your Heart and Field Roast have vegan cheeses based on coconut oil that are very tasty even unmelted, but they're not much nutritionally. Worth a try to satisfy an occasional craving, though. I cut them up and freeze the pieces myself.
Your awesome so uplifting I like my cheerios for breakfast now can u giv me a lunch and then for dinner I love fruits n veggies just dont know when to put them together and when to eat them thank you for your help love your video your a princess get back with me on how to eat I'm lost
Protein is what friends and family obsess over when the dreaded vegan word is mentioned. I track my food for various reasons, and was looking at the total protein for a veggie/fruit drink I made in a vitamix (which pulverizes everything for easy drinking, even raspberry seeds, keeping the fiber). I was surprised to see a couple of cups total of frozen veg/fruit added up to several grams of protein. If I got all my calories from fruit/veg, I calculated that I would actually meet my protein minimum for the day.... But not really wanting to eat just fruit/veg, I eat beans, grains (have to go easy on the wheat, but rice and millet and buckwheat and corn are always fine for me), nuts, seeds. It really is not hard to meet protein requirements even for very athletic people. The site nomeatathlete proves this pretty well. Also there is TMI at www.veganhealth.org, run by Jack Norris, a registered dietitian. You can keep your relatives from complaining about your meatless diet by drowning them in printouts. In one of the protein articles, there's even a calculator for your protein requirements based on your ideal weight. If you're very active and trying to build muscle, you'll need more. A 110lb sloth like me only needs about 40 grams per day. It's very easy to exceed that amount even on a vegan sloth's calorie requirements. Many popular foods are really vegan or easy to veganize. Mashed or refried beans (or baked beans) make nice sandwich fillings. So do baked beans - gloppy but good (I often use corn tortillas instead of bread). Peanut butter (or any nut/seed butter) mixed with chopped onion and chopped/shredded carrot is excellent on crackers, in sandwiches, or just eaten with a spoon. Broccoli slaw sold in bags also works. I am very kitchen-challenged, but eating vegan really doesn't require serious cooking. Doesn't stop me from watching other people cook on RUclips, of course.
Oops, .....Is it best to detox/cleanse prior committing to veganism? Going cold turkey! I need to shake the sugar/soda's, sweet tea, milk chocolate/candy addiction as well (increase the veggies & fruits). Love your recipes.
+Mac Depends on the person. I transitioned from vegetarianism. First eating eggs, and cookign with dairy. Then eliminating eggs, then got rid of dairy. Some people are fine with overnight switch, but I'm a slow kind of person ;) Definitely start to crowd out those junk foods with fruits and veggies. Good luck!! xo
The hardest thing I've found about going vegan is avoiding eggs, either in things like cakes or other things like pancakes.i know there are many recipes for vegan cakes and so on but lately I had such a craving for eggs that I just gave in and had poached eggs on toast days running.I wonder what it was about eggs that I was craving? any ideas anyone?
I absolutely Love your channel!!! 💕Can’t wait to check out your blog for more recipes! I too and from GA! 🍑 Been vegan since Sept -17, absolutely love the changes I’ve experienced since being vegan. Haven’t really met any other vegans in my area though 😩 - I currently live in Iowa . Thanks so much for the helpful vids
im just a vegetarian now, and i feel like i might be undereating. but i never ate that much before, anyway. so ill feel satiated but an hour later there's a rumble in the jungle - any advice?
undrmyumbrellaa Hey! I think you should probably be eating more when you feel hungry an hour later. Also, make sure the food you are eating is super nutrient dense (ex. greens at every meal). Not only will you be giving your body the macro nutrients and calories it needs, but also the vitamins and minerals it may be craving. Eat nutrient dense unprocessed foods, with a focus on veggies, legumes, and healthy fat. That's the secret ;) Keep me posted on how you're feeling!
LOVE THIS...IVE BEEN THINKING OF TRANSITIONING FOR A WHILE NOW...BUT I AM SOOO PICKY I LOVE FRUITS AND VEGGIES, SOME LOL... ANY IDEAS OF GOOD VEGAN FOODS TOFU WAS NOT GOOD TO ME..I MAY HAVE TO SPICE IT UP A BIT BUT IT WAS NOT FOR ME.. HEEEEELP LOL...
SYREETA C Oh yes!! Please visit my blog and download the free meal plan and recipes. My blog is a great resource for daily recipes too. Same with this channel. www.sweetpotatosoul.com Let me know how you're doing!
I've been wanting to go vegan for a while now but it has been hard when my husband and daughter still would rather me cook meat based meals. How does anyone cope with having non vegan family member in the household?
Teach them how to cook for themselves...:) But you might look for meals that you can prepare as vegan but then they can add the non-vegan stuff themselves on the side. Or they can mix it into a casserole or a salad.
Hii ! I just love your videos and your energy ! It's really inspiring :) ! I've got a little request for you : I'm a new vegan and I would like to do my own meal plan every week but I'm not yet perfectly familiar with nutrition so it's a little hard (I've experienced a little iron problem the other day...) So it would be great if you could give some tips and advice to plan meals that would assure health and well being :) I usually work out 3-4 times a week but I'm active almost every day so I know I need to pack a lot of energy. Yup, so I'm just curious about how you and other vegan manage to plan meals or if you just improvise.
+Bianca Beausoleil check out nomeatathlete.com, lots of tips and tricks on there. I'm currently training for a half marathon. I've added vegan supplements to my diet as well.
+Odessa Cegers Hi! Thank you :) No, not going raw, but I have tried it in the past. I miss my sweet potatoes too much, and believe strongly in the benefits of whole grains and starches. Raw is great too though. But definitely not for me :)
What are your (anyone's) thoughts/opinions/info on soy products? I do not want to lean on tofu/fake meats or soy cheeses/mayos, fake butters etc bc I've read about the harmful, lasting effects soy has on our hormones, brain, etc. we are trying to cut out as many processed food items as possible. thanks!!
+Renate Seldon Love this
Wow, just started being vegan today and looking forward to all the benefits. I too have lumps in my breasts, so I'm curious if it will go away.
Zee A how did it go?
Zee A depends on the lumps don’t set up high expectations so that you don get disappointed
Another Tip:
Start eating vegan Breakfasts, then when you get comfortable with that start eating vegan breakfasts and lunches, then when you're comfortable with that start eating vegan breakfasts, lunches and suppers :)
(and snacks too) =)
TheSUPERHAPPY1 Amen! I love it :)
+SweetPotatoSoul
Hi
Thank u for your tip! I started to doing that but I started by dinner^^
TheSUPERHAPPY1 hey! I want to go vegan, but I'm scared I'll lose too much weight. All the vegans I know are way too skinny and that frightens me cause I like the shape of my body and I don't want to lose it. How can I avoid losing too much weight and still be vegan?
My breakfast is already vegan! I’m on my way! THANKS! 🌹
I went vegan overnight. Been vegan 3 days now
Roli Kawaii How's your vegan life now?
Ded ass same
congratulations! I've been vegan 8 years! It's great. You probably know about checking your B12. I knew someone who didn't and well, she did get better. Best wishes!
👍🏿👍🏿😁😊
Rebecca Allen can you take b 12 while breastfeeding
Absolutely!! You should give it a try :)
ProbablyPublic
ProbablyPublic uh
ProbablyPublic
Anyone noticed how much love she gets compared to the obnoxious freelee banana girl. I'm obsessed with this channel #vegansunite
+Zahra Iqbal ;) xoxoxoxoxoxo
I looked at some other "Benefits of Veganism" videos and those people are a turn off. Right off the jump they are showing gross, gory videos of animals being slaughtered, and get all preachy about ethics. I don't do condemnation of anyone and their lifestyle or diet choices. I have my own reasons why I choose to eat a few vegan meals a week, but i do not criticize others who do not do this. I'll continue to watch SweetPotatoSoul's videos over theirs.
Me too.
I love the way you explain things, you're much sweeter and more informative than a lot of vegan people I've spoken to ^_^
+txmra Aww, thank you so much. I hope you encounter many more sweet vegans ;)
do you have any tips for going vegan [and trying to lose weight!] at college?!
I love how you're so understanding and encouraging of people transitioning or just taking small steps towards being more vegan-friendly!!
Asha Hawker I have a vegan chili that you'll love
Thank you Faith, I look forward for it!
Do you ever make sietan and how? What ingredients do you use or recommend?
me and my fiance are thinking on going vegan for two weeks to see if we like it..can't wait.
Have fun! My mom and I went vegan for a week once; we had a great time!
+Hannah Bee thanks! we are enjoying it so far.
Jacqueline Loftis Sweet potatoes for breakfast? You have to share how you prepared them for them to be a breakfast food. #sointerested.
Jacqueline Loftis Awesome...sounds tasty. Thanks
LadyBug1383 You're awesome! Thanks for sharing :)
Definitely look at the nomeatathlete site. Loads of ideas for vegan athletes.
I’m really considering going vegan. I’m hoping it will help me with my lack of energy, and my stomach problems. However, I love fruit, but veggies have always been eh (unless there’s melted cheese on them) which worries me a lot...
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels on RUclips.
My daughter has recently become vegan and is trying to convert the whole family. Your videos help me cope!
Karen Butler Oh yes!! I'm so happy I can do that for you. Let me know if you ever have any questions :) Good luck!
Hi Jenné! Have you ever tried vegemite/marmite? Do you love/hate yeast extract?
Даша Шаханович Yes I have tried both. It's been a while though. I didn't like them at the time, but I'd like to give them another go now that I'm older and my tastes are more refined ;)
hello! I was wondering if you could make a video on what to eat when you are in a situation with friends who are not vegan or vegetarian? It might help some teens such as myself who feel uncomfortable in eating situations!
What are the best iron enriched foods for vegan beginners?
Focus on whole foods (veggies, fruit, beans, lentils, whole grains, nuts, seeds, & shrooms). Grains and beans are especially iron rich AND high in other nutrients (like vitamin C) that increase absorption of iron :)
I'm currently in the process of transitioning to vegetarian/vegan diet what are some helpful advices to get started?
Exactly. What are some advices to take when going vegan, SweetPotatoSoul?
I know this is an old video but thank you I needed to hear this
I loved it!!!
Can you please tell us some of your favorite and recommended books on a vegan lifestyle? Thanks
+SweetPotatoSoul thank you😀
And of course Jenne's own books.
How do you stop being tired im earing potatoes and vegetables and fruit and tired! Vegan diet beginner. How do you prevent it?
I REALLY want the discipline to do this for health reasons...
If I follow you an your videos I get nothing done so I'm gonna check out the 21day vegan then take a break. Thanks alot for the knowledge I'm learning and enjoying.
It was really easy to become vegetarian because I love animals.
+Christina Calarco a perfect reason to keep going and go vegan! the tips in this video are awesome!
I would love to eventually go Vegan! My eating patterns aren't too great as a Vegetarian yet though so I think I have some work to do before moving up to Vegan. Thanks so much for the awesome advice though!!
Veggie Gamer Thank you so much!! Good luck on your eventual transition. If you want it, you can have it!
hello. i just happened to stumble upon your page. i'm starting my 30 day vegan plan tomorrow to see how it affects my type 1 diabetes. i stopped eating red meat and pork over 20 yrs ago, so i think cutting out fish and chicken for 30 days should be alright. i enjoyed ur video. any other tips you can give a neophyte such as myself?
Ulysses Garrett Hi Ulysses! Congratulations on starting your vegan journey :) How is it going? There is a lot of evidence that this will be helpful for your type 1 diabetes. Have you seen this yet? www.pcrm.org/health/health-topics/diet-and-diabetes-recipes-for-success
Thanks for watching my video.
I will keep you informed.
do you just eat quinoa everyday to get your complete proteins?
Hi! Do you still do the 21 day vegan blueprint online? I'm very interested in trying it out.
+ChelsT_ Hey there! not any more, but you should totally check out my new program Buddhalicious www.sobuddhalicious.com/
If you ever want to talk more email me at jenne@thenourishingvegan.com xo
you deserve so many more subscribers!
It's absolutely no problem. Going vegan was the best decision in my life
What advice would you give people who want to go vegan but don't particularly like salad? I hear this question a lot. 'Oh I could never go vegan. I don't like salad' or 'i don't like rabbit food' etc.
They can eat cooked veggies or smoothies to get their greens. I used to be one of these "I don't like salads" people when I was a teenager, and now I realize I didn't know a thing about salad. If they were interested in going vegan they would find a salad or some "rabbit food" they do like :)
I'm a Turkish guy and we Turks love meat! I do want to transition but my worry is going out to turkey (living in the uk) for a holiday and not being able to find things that are dairy free. should i be worried how difficult becoming a vegan may be?
tried to look at the blueprint you have....that page keeps coming up in Japanese can you fix that? would love to check it out
Hi,great tips but I was wondering can you make a video on how to get your teeth white without all the bad chemicals or less harmful products that whiten your teeth?
natalie ko more likely you will like it when it has healthy effect on your body.
Thank you for the information. I will keep you posted on the lifestyle change and the channel.
I like the crowding out idea I have always wanted to go vegan and lead a healthy lifestyle .. this was a good idea thank you
+Yolanda Webb You are welcome :) Good luck to you!
Thank you I am seriously considering going Vegan imma check out your other videos.
the 21 day vegan blueprint website isn't in English....do you have an alternative site?
do you have vegan book recs?
I really really appreciate it.
Okay
My concern about trying vegan is that i might overload on Carbs and get fat. Possible?
Thank you so much for making this video.
quick question......Is it best to detox or cleanse? I currently do not eat meat but have a serious sugar addiction which I crave (and eat) sweets that are not vegan. Help!!!
+Mac You don't need to cleanse. Just put your focus into making good choices and creating new habits. More water, plenty of rest and self care Be kind to yourself while you fight the cravings, 3 days I would expect. Do you need the extra calories that you get from the sweets, perhaps eat more or eat accidently vegan sweets?
Thanks so much! I will truly take all the help and advise offered. I want to conquer the non-vegan sweets-cravings.
Buy some yummy dates. Eat a few when you feel a sugar craving and it will kill it.
Jenné - loved the video (as always!!)
I have been vegan for some months now, but I have noticed quite a high weight gain since transitioning - attributed to higher fat alternatives (e.g. coconut yogurt which has none of the protein but all of the fat vs. dairy yogurt/getting protein in through nuts which are of course calorifically dense) and I generally have more trouble with portion sizing because I don't always feel full even though my plates are full of veggies and proteins too, as oppose to a pescetarian lifestyle that I was happy with before.. but I want to persevere!!
Befor I became vegan after being vegetarian cheeses was the hardest thing to kick lol but it is easy to become vegan right after being vegetarian
Thank you very helpful tips
Great info. Thanks for sharing
Can you make a video on how to be vegan when you live in the dorm & only have a hot plate and a skillet?
Jazzmine Brooks - Buy a slow cooker
I've been trying to transition into a vegan/vegetarian for so LONGG! but unfortunately my parents absolutely refuse im a 15 y/o guy and my parents don't believe that i can get protein from a vegan diet.help? what can i tell them so that i can go about it!
Yazan Matar Have them watch the documentary Food Choices. Great help it explains alllll of the protein information, and just the vegan life. The doc is on Netflix
Ask if they have ever heard of anyone having a protein deficiency. It doesn't exist. You don't need nearly as much protein as most people think.
Start with ...Burger Kings...😊
"IMPOSSIBLE BURGER"! 😁
( its Vegan)!🤗
it's....Delicious!👍🏿👍🏿✌
I have a random question for vegan people: what vegan eat in thanksgiving and other important events like

+Like A Dream Hey! I like to veganize traditional recipes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. I make sweet potato pie, stuffing, mac & cheese, lentil loaf, and everything in between. Most anything can be made vegan. Check out my website for more recipes www.sweetpotatosoul.com
thanks for the feed-back
+Like A Dream Instagram and pinterest is great for inspiration too.
***** That's beautiful and so inspiring!! Thanks for sharing. You go girl :)
Thank u because who would have known about Vegan Shoes, nail polish r makeup Blessings Lady Thank U
+HotFion Thank you so much for replying now I can go vegan without worry! :D
I love your passion for what you do. Can't wait to convert to being fully vegan!
Yes, that's great! Beans are a superfood!
Are they? I did not know that.
My Easily Amused Kitchen Definitely! Though without the price tag :)
#themoreyouknow lol :)
any suggestions for cheese? love the vegan lifestyle and i'm doing great i feel like its pretty easy but sometimes i just want some cheese. i know dairy makes me feel crappy so i don't cave but i have been having a hard time finding one that i like, i just want something that taste close in flavor. i have tried daiya on numerous occasions and i feel like its too sweet for me( anyone else have that issue)
+mysha boone If you're near a Whole Foods, they have different brands available. I personally am a fan of the 'Follow Your Heart' brand!
I’m vegetarian now,but i want to be vegan.thank you for your this video 💗
Some people are fine with overnight switch, but I'm a slow kind of person ;)
Definitely start to crowd out those junk foods with fruits and veggies. Good luck!! xo
How soon will the shopping list post for those of us that have signed up for the next Budda Bowl?
Thanks, you have inspired me to make healthier choices.
Their is a book on Amazon which will help you with the transistion process. it is titled, Our Journey Red,Black,Green and Vegan.

How do you deal with social situations? Especially when people are unsupportive of you going vegan?
im just a vegetarian now, and i feel like i might be undereating. but i never ate that much before, anyway. so ill feel satiated but an hour later there's a rumble in the jungle - any advice?
undrmyumbrellaa Hey! That's the secret ;) Keep me posted on how you're feeling!
okay! i have another question - i've read that vegetarians and vegans have to eat much more than meat-eaters, did you find this to be the case??
undrmyumbrellaa Depends on what you're eating really. If you are eating nutrient dense foods and healthy fats then no. If you aren't then yes.
Your energy is so bomb. Love you through the lens. My vegan journey begins tomorrow :)
Alternative for beans? Not a huge fan

Thanks for a great video! :D I have been vegan for seventeen days now and I love it :D I was vegetarian before :D
Josefin Lundell You go girl!! Congratulations :) Let me know if you ever have questions!
Thank you :D
Thank you!! 🤗 This is exactly what I was looking for. Love your channel ❤
Hii ! I just love your videos and your energy ! It's really inspiring :) ! I've got a little request for you :
I'm a new vegan and I would like to do my own meal plan every week but I'm not yet perfectly familiar with nutrition so it's a little hard (I've experienced a little iron problem the other day...) So it would be great if you could give some tips and advice to plan meals that would assure health and well being :) I usually work out 3-4 times a week but I'm active almost every day so I know I need to pack a lot of energy.
Yup, so I'm just curious about how you and other vegan manage to plan meals or if you just improvise.
+Bianca Beausoleil check out nomeatathlete.com, lots of tips and tricks on there. I'm currently training for a half marathon. I've added vegan supplements to my diet as well.
Hello, I am so inspired by your movement! Are you thinking of becoming a Raw Vegan?
+Odessa Cegers Hi! Thank you :) No, not going raw, but I have tried it in the past. I miss my sweet potatoes too much, and believe strongly in the benefits of whole grains and starches. Raw is great too though. But definitely not for me :)
Thanks!
What are your (anyone's) thoughts/opinions/info on soy products? I do not want to lean on tofu/fake meats or soy cheeses/mayos, fake butters etc bc I've read about the harmful, lasting effects soy has on our hormones, brain, etc. we are trying to cut out as many processed food items as possible. thanks!!
gonna go vegan thank you
I want to become Vegan cause I have a Spinal cord injury. I have weight on my stomach and now lower back pain.
Its hard being vegan in the Bronx.
Great tips!
Heels to High Tops Thank you!! xo
