  • As Ukraine prepares to launch its much anticipated counteroffensive on Russian forces, satellite images and videos show how Moscow has been strengthening its defense lines. British intelligence says Russia has built some of the most extensive defenses anywhere in the world with their anti-tank ditches, Dragon’s teeth and trenches.
WSJ looks at the effectiveness of the Russian defenses to understand what Ukrainian troops could face in their offensive.

"Hands, legs and heads cut off with axes, people torn by horses and nailed to doors, bellies cut open by pregnant women, wells filled with bodies - all this cruelty shown in the movie "Wołyń" can be taken literally. It was so." Quote from the article.

    • @WolvesValleyFarm
      @WolvesValleyFarm 6 месяцев назад

@@overdrivelzma.9219 There is one location where the UAF have reached (and actually breached) the first defense line. This is in Zaporizhzhia region on the axis towards Verbove village. On the rest of the hundreds of kilometers long defense line they haven't even gotten close.
Even without the high casualty rate they would never reach Tokmak. Google "Ukraine control map" there is a good map out there with OSINT on unit positions, engagement and exact locations of fortifications.
The entirety of UAF offensive operations have taken place in the Russian security zone. An area of "no man's land" in front of the Russian lines where Rusia has been conducting a mobile defense. From the very start it has been clear (and verified by western and russian sources alike) that Russia would be more than okay with giving ground in this security zone if needed.
The fact that several months into the counter offensive the UAF still hasn't pushed all they way through this security zone is saying more than enough. They haven't even been able to recapture an area which Russia was willing to withdraw from if needed. Imagine how they are going to fare against the Russian main defensive lines which Russia is NEVER going to willingly withdraw from?
They only managed to push until the first such line in one place, they did that 2 months ago. Russia is currently on the offensive again in that specific place...

Building strong defensive lines as they did against the Germans in the Kursk battle in 1943 (at least, the Germans managed to reach the third line but they were exhausted by the toughness of the battles and the thickness of the lines) and, meanwhile, the factories were creating weapons and the militaries upgrading their weapons.

Results after 4 months after June 4th (Beginning of Counter Offensive):
    - Nearly 80-90K Ukraines KIA.
    - Still is in “grey zone” and unable to breach through 1st line of defence
    - According to NY Times (pro-ukraine and western source), Russia has gained more land during Ukraine’s counter offensive and throughout the whole year even though they were supposed to be in defence 😂 (funny to me even though how that happened i am a neutral)
    - Western nations are losing hope in Ukraine and stopped funding them

330,000 dead Russians. 1,000,000+ wounded Russians.
Ukraine's offense is creating "meat grinders" like Bakhmut and Avdiivka to eliminate large numbers of the enemy.
The Russians charge forward for political reasons and are slaughtered 20:1.
Ukraine attacks where they can acheive their objective or reducing the Russian army without losing their own men.
If the Russian army is nice enough to walk into the traps, Ukraine is happy to kill them while on defense and taking few losses of their own.
It's like WW1. The side with the better defense strategy and new technology wins. That's Ukraine.
Russia will send more conscripts. Who will train them? What armor will support their attacks? Russia has lost.
Untrained conscripts are only capable of making "meat wave" attacks into the robotic machine guns of the Ukrainians.
If they send more conscripts, their losses will only increase.

By the time they were allowed back it was too late and the French army was too disorganized to mount a perfect defense. The breakthrough at Sedan was all that was needed to cut the allies off from the rest of the lines and trap them against the ocean. Sedan's fortifications were too weak because a miscalculation in how difficult for the terrain would be for armored units to cross.
