Police swarm Beverly Crest mansion occupied by squatters

- Los Angeles police officers swarmed a Beverly Crest mansion that squatters have turned into a party house on Friday. Authorities responded to reports of a hot prowl burglary at the home located on Beverly Grove Place shortly before 3 p.m.
Several suspects had reportedly entered the home, with at least one suspect armed with a knife. A group of people inside the home were seen lined up, detained and handcuffed on an outdoor patio.
Parties at the unoccupied home began in October 2023 when the squatters would host rowdy nightly gatherings and even charge admission to partygoers. Authorities have failed to shut down the parties as the squatters claimed they had a legitimate lease on the property. Neighbors said the disruptive gatherings have not only kept them up all night, but have also left them fearing for their safety.
KTLA's Chris Wolfe reports on Jan. 26, 2024.

So let me get this straight, if the police pull you over, anywhere in the US, they ask you for registration, insurance and I D. If you can not prove your connection to that vehicle or if someone has reported it stolen, then they can impound that vehicle and place you under arrest until the matter is resolved. But if you move into someone's home, nobody can do anything? This is a problem nationwide.
It’s not really a problem nationwide. It’s a problem mostly with democrat run states
It's just appalling that lawmakers have not done anything on it. If squatters start squatting in their houses, then maybe they would react to it
Not nation wide just the states with overly liberal Tennant rights laws. These states put the burden of proof on the home owner to somehow prove a person is not a tenant. When you look up statistics all these squatter issues are coming from specific states. Kinda nuts that these states have not changed their laws by now.
This is a problem in Los Angeles because many ppl across the US have gotten squatters out of their homes instantly.
If only some event happened that these laws could be traced back to. Something like 20% of Americans going homeless in 6 months during a massive housing market collapse... in 2008. You can't solve a problem if you don't know what the problem is.
Suddenly it becomes a problem when it's in *their* neighbourhood 😂😂

The police did their job. The problem is the district attorney declines to prosecute.
@@joshn2342323 The police could only do what the law allows which was nothing in this case AND prosecutors can't prosecute squatters when existing laws PROTECT them.
We need city council members and county commissioners willing to create new laws that protect law abiding citizens instead of criminals!
It’s bizarre. They are trespassing. How do they allow that? From my experience with the police they do literally nothing even when you have footage of the theft and a gps on the belongings stolen. America in 2024. Zero integrity. No one does anything unless they are forced to
That's because the police can't get involved. Have you ever tried to evict a squatter? You can't just call the cops and get them kicked out. If 1 letter is addressed to any squatter and has been delivered thru the mail, the eviction process has to be started from step 1 and with no contract between you and the squatter, the maximum possible time allowed under state law is how much time you have to give them to leave. In my state, that's 90 days, which starts the second they receive the formal eviction notice.
Most calm and casual "swarm" of police I ever have seen.
B/c they FAFO that they had a lease, then realized UH OH we were just used to SWAT someone.... The KARENS in that neighborhood need charged as if they were swatting, because thats EXACTLY what they did.

And technically and legally speaking , many states have rights that protect squatters. Some can even acquire the property after being there for so long... Legally.
After 21 years of residency, Ohio's law on "adverse possession" allows squatters to gain legal ownership of a property.
In California, for a squatter to claim rights through an adverse possession claim, they must occupy the property continuously and openly for at least five years. Additionally, they must pay property taxes for that duration.Nov 10, 2023

@@fredadark5616 No it isn't. IF somebody invites you into their house, and you start receiving your mail there, or register to vote in this precinct, or start contributing to paying the utilities, and do a few other things along those lines, you establish a residency that the law recognizes.

MUST BE NICE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THE WHOLE POLICE DEPARTMENT DO EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO DO WHENEVER YOU WANT THEM TO DO IT AND AT A LARGE NUMBER! WHY DOES THIS NEVER HAPPEN IN SMALL TOWN AMERICA WITH SQUATTERS? LITERALLY SENT AN ARMY! WHAT ABOUT THE MIDDLE AND LOWER CLASS PEOPLE THAT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS? THEY NEVER HAVE AN ARMY OF POLICE OFFICERS AT THEIR BACK?
Because these aren't squatters. Did you see the people? They were very well off and probably got the property off foreclosure or some crazy tax law. Whatever the case, They weren't there illegally and weren't served any papers.

if squatters were to take residence in a home you owned. The cops were to tell you, its a court manner.
We need to put sqautters into gated communities, they kind you can't leave.

I think this loophole was created to keep things that don't belong to you in the hands of the invaders.
A sheriff can only evict someone if there is a judgment. The rest of the unlawful detainer process is entirely left to civil courts in every state in the United States.
Mr. Gucci
If they are paying $35,000 for the year in rent then how are they classified as squatters?
35000 is probably the electricity etc. 2000 sq foot Home rents for more than 35000 a year. Let alone a mansion. Stop believing lies.
Because they are not paying rent only lying so they can keep squatting
@@omi_godthe only expense... Clearly you've never owned a home.... U think they pay property tax and your property stays the same? They're using all the new stuff. They're going to cause damage. That is expensive. Allowing people to stay for free is not a realistic thing

With the amount of trash I read about people talking how bad CaliforniaI is I wish it would make people leave but it doesn't and I genuinely don't understand why. 😫 Seriously because Rent and home prices are too high
Hmmm when most people think "Squatters" they're thinking of people who actually move into a place, often homeless, maybe they physically break a window to get in or something, but one thing that doesn't scream squatters is a party house for people who get in their cars and drive away when police show up. That said 4 million in Beverly Hills with LeBron as your neighbor? That's not too bad of a deal.
story said he is "building". Doesn't mean he'll ever live there. Is he even a California resident??
Murderers can be out on $500 bail. For These squatters maybe zero $ with a promise they’ll show up in court on court-assigned date ! You know what, they won’t !

Wait a damn minute. Are you saying that these people drew up their own lease for a multi million dollar home for 35k? The cops didn’t look at the lease? How about who they paid the 35k to? If the court assigned a selling agent and that agent did not authorize the lease then it’s illegal. Plain and simple. Trespassing and destruction of private property among other crimes I’m sure. What the hells going on over there. I’m from California and never thought this could happen.
You’re exactly right. The problem is it takes forever to get this resolved in court and in the mean time the squatters keep squatting.
The agent did 'authorize' the 'lease'. Probably no paper. Verbal and cash.
@@trubleSum1 actually the realtor was interviewed by KTLA 5 and NO he did not do a lease with anyone. According to him.
@@trubleSum1 where is your proof?
and that's why it's a civil matter. Your average cop on the beat is not equipped to adjudicate real estate disputes. And yes, leases are privately drawn-up contracts. If there is a problem, take it to court.
Los Angeles County should declare "eminent domain" and just take it over.
This happens to regular peoples homes everyday. But now that it happens to wealthy elite the law needs to be changed. Nah, those squatters need to have their 90 days then a court hearing. I’ve had 3 landlord friends have to spend thousands in court fees and loose many months of rent due to squatters and a corrupt legal system.
What does it take for laws to be amended to protect owners?

Two things:
1 - They're not "squatters", they're *THIEVES.* And for some unknown reason, idiots in our government and society have given them rights. But name one other thing that you can steal that becomes legally yours once you've stolen it?
2 - The cops swarm a mansion, which is a helluva' headline. You never hear variations of that, "cops swarm 3-bedroom, 2-bath blue-collar home to remove squatters", because that's the working-man's problem. But if you've got a mansion, that's different... you get _EXTRA_ rights.
That's what I gathered from this news story. 35k for 1 year rent they said at the end, so why label this a squatter, burlar, or what ever a hot prowl is. This video title is click bait.
But name one other thing that you can steal that becomes legally yours once you've stolen it? Anything anyone else has discarded. The LAW MEN commonly use this little legal snafu to collect DNA from trash objects to secure Murder convictions. So you would have to do away with THIS before your argument would hold any water in court.

Newsom really looking out for his citizens, huh?
He's too busy to help because he's worried about law abiding citizens having firearms and cars that go over the speed limit . Rather than helping citizens.
And no tax paying "pop up"food chains setting up on sidewalks.
well, actually the two biggest reasons people in CA were killed last year were shootings and traffic incidents... so It makes sense that those would be Newsom's priorities
