This is the greatest statement I ever heard about the creative goal of making music: "The creative goal in making music is the same as a rainstorm or just the way the waves hit the beach. There is a perfection that we try to approximate. That's the goal." -Rick Rubin
Yeah, this man is the mastermind behind most of Slayers work and Deth Magnetic from Metallica. The Black Crows first big album, the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J along with scores of others. This guy is a legend, but most people are ignorant of his massive influence.
It is amazing that he produced Run DMC, Jay Z, Eminem, etc... But also produced Slayer, Mick Jagger, Johnny Cash, NIN, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage, U2, Metallica, and 15 + other all-time legends!! Easily 1 of the top 5 all-time Producers Ever.
I was meditating and I remember about this wonderful person, with such a warm wisdom voice. And I interrupt my focus to watch this again, thank you very much for making this! It's change my life
Love this as I'm just starting my journey of enjoying quiet ,stillness inches noisy fast world .Loving the awareness of my breathing and slowing down to be in rhythm with my natural being
I was walking point dune (spot in the video). One of my most favorite spots in Californian - definitely LA next to Point Magu. Ive been going there for the past twenty years. Ill drive out and just walk in circles around the point bare foot - thinking. Just a lovely powerful spot, truly special. Anyways I was meeting a friend down on westward beach so I decided to walk the point down and I saw this guy walking up the trail. He sees me and immediately turns his head, wont even look at me. As we passed one anther I said, "hello". He wouldn't even look at me or acknowlege my existence as if I was bothering him and the air around him. I ended up meeting my friend down on the beach and he goes, "Rick Rubin was walking the trial - the music producer did you see him." "The only person I saw one of the "effected types" walking the trail." "No man that was him." "Did he produce anything id like?" "I don't...think so.." "Oh thank god!"
I think it’s the over way round. The paradox is that it’s a lot easier to be zen when you have a lot less… because then you have less distractions in your life. Less is More. 🧘🏾
i know where hip hop came from,SMART ASS.but i promose he took it to a level that would have never been reached with out him..im 43 and earned my stripes,,im a dj,rapper, producer, breakdancer, graffiti artist..30 yrs.in the game. rap music would never have been main stream and world wide with out him,BET THAT..

Definitely, he had a very major role in the making of hip hop, but when i read the statement "he's the creator of hip hop"... no one man created hip hop, but yea good luck with your music n productions. N man to man I apologies.
No he is NOT the creator of hip hop, he's a co founder of def jam records and helped to produce a lot of amazing songs, but don't even start with that bullshit. Hip hop was created on the streets of new york by black n puerto ricans kids and consist of rap, break dancing, graffiti and DJing.
this guy is responsable, For all Red hot chilli peppers Alnbums and peoples comes to to life. and slayer, and, system of the down, ed sheeran..etc.... death magnetic was a choice to do something different
sorry guys but i couldn't help my self jugging this man he produced ego and violence based artists and records and he think he is spiritual and still making those kind of works isn't that weird????
Idiotic comment and not funny at all, considering both producers make music and both have their own art. Just plain disrespectful to have such a prejudice view of both people
Made the worse Metallica album, yet made pinnacle work for Johnny Cash, and the REd Hot Chili Peppers..not going to go into the hip hop classics..everyone isn't going to make 'thee best' work ever for everyone
Oh, now he's some type of spiritual master... lol...The guy made his fortune off the backs of actual song writers and musicians. What songs did he write or instruments did he play? He just put his stamp on their creations, as a so-called producer, and got most of the financial reward. I wonder how many new artists got screwed with some shitty deal, where Rubin got the lions share of the royalties, after they naively signed some bullshit contract. The guy is just another huckster, in a long line of exploiters of talented artists... especially people of color.

I can literally feel the wind and it is majestic. Fantastic what no recent comments? Give me more videos like this RUclips!
Amazing man. A beacon of light.
His book is amazing! I read it in 2011
Do you remember the name of the book? There's very little available about him to read?
@@SpontaneousEvolution Book : The creative act: A way of Being.
@@billbenjamon9276 thanks, that's the new book. But the comment referred to a book in 2011.
The Art has to come first - Rick Rubin
Thanks for that beautiful art, @NOWNESS.
It feels really good and calming.
More of that please.

Most people don't know what silence is , try still for five minutes without a thought sound or moving that's hard to do !
True silence will drive most men mad! It cannot be deafened only dealt with!
it's what all art strives to be and what science wants to imitate.
I must say it a hell of lot easier to be zen when you are rich...

La riqueza y la pobreza siempre es mental no es física
It’s easy to think riches will make a mind go quiet. But it will only grow the chaos
Makes great records
this guy is a musical genious.

I UNDERSTAND SILENTS .. WHEN I GET AROUND A LOT OF DIFFERENT LOUD NOISES MY VIBRATION SHIFTS .. WHY..

You can hear nature make beats
You forgot about Drake..
How is he 'cynical'? Being open to to meditation is the opposite of 'cynical'. If you meant 'pretentious', then you might have a point

David Winchurch exactly. Hard to be "one with yourself" when you live in a 5th floor walk up
He has the same hairy look as Karl Marx
This dude is responsible Metallica's for Death Magnetic, probably the worst sounding album of all time.
