- The owner of a sunshine yellow Corvette decided to key our submitter's Tesla in a target parking lot. Tesla Sentury Mode, captured great footage of the offender, but unfortunately, the cameras turned off automatically before Century Mode could capture his license plate number. The responding officer was amazed that the Tesla had recorded the incident.
The police think they'll be able to catch the guy thanks to the clear shot of his face, plus a good chance that he used a credit card inside Target. They're also checking nearby license plate reader cameras.

I actually have thought this, but only ever THOUGHT this, never would I take action! And the reason why I thought this? It was actually just yesterday, while I was riding my E-scooter to the train, some jackass thought it was a good idea to not only park in the bike lane, but nose-in on an otherwise parallel parking road, forcing me to really go way out into blind traffic (because of the bus stop) to get around this purposely horribly parked car. I strongly considered stopping and keying this a-hole's car... but I don't wanna get charged so I just angrily let it slide.

Somebody randomly keyed the deck lid of my sn95 about 2 months after I got the car painted. The paint shop fixed it for me for free. I only go to them now. Had 2 other cars done by them. Just assholes being assholes.
It can be fun to think about when someone in a car is being particularly stupid. But anyone who drives like a colossal moron also tends to be the kind of person who would go ballistic if they caught you keying their car.

I'm actually planning on painting it this spring, as it also a few minor dings/dents/scratches from at least three different people hitting my car with theirs(or their doors) in some way.
What suck about that is, I'm the type of person that just isn't going to try to exchange insurance info, or make another person pay to fix a small dent or scratch in my car from their door or something(even though I like and value my car.) Funnily enough, the worst one, and the one I think most people _would_ have the person at fault(or their insurance company) pay, was a very stressed out mother of two young children, with her own mother stressing her out even more, who dented my car after putting her child in their car seat. I happened to be in my car at the time, and as soon as she hit my car she looked me dead in my eyes, realizing she was screwed.
She offerred to give me what she had in cash(she said she had like $70 or $80), but when I saw that look on her face, as if hitting my car almost put her over the edge, and she was about to crack, was just too much for me. I just told her, "don't worry about it."

Granted, some of those Tesla guys can be pretty annoying with the race-baiting, especially when the weather is bad and they know only the new 911,RS,AMG,M type AWD cars can drive faster. They do this to me all the time in my Mustang. I'll be keeping it under 3500 rpm in order to avoid spinning the tires and the Teslas will purposely stay next to you while accelerating and slowing down, not realizing that the car goes up to 8000 RPM and I'm not racing lol.

No, definitely not. Two adults keyed my car when I was in high school. I had turned 18 that day. I was with my friend who was 17. Two people walked by my car, kissing. I said, "Don't kiss in front of my friend. She's still a minor." The joke was for my friend. They thought I was ridiculing them (how I do not know) so they keyed my car all over and wrote an awful note. I threw it away and no longer remember the contents. They were very angry and mentioned the "incident".

Bit presumptuous. I keyed a car once and only once, I only almost regret it. It was a semi-busy parking lot and dude stops to wait for a guy to pull out of his spot so he could have a nice close spot, only he sat there for like 5 mins and wouldn't move. There were a plenty of other spaces open, some as close as 5-6 spots away. It wasn't a disabled spot and he looked like a perfectly fit man in his 30s-40s when he got out. But he decided to just sit there, blocking about 12 cars both behind him and on side aisles for nearly 5mins despite all the honking because he absolutely refused to move until he got that spot. I had rarely been so angry in my life. I wouldnt ever do it again but I still struggle to regret it.

Ya I’ve installed some pretty legit cameras that would blow your mind on some schools but most places have to dial back the resolution because their network couldn’t handle the 4K video. The outdoor cameras were about $5000 a piece, with a non-adjusting base.

I have a friend who isn't wealthy by any stretch of the imagination but who saved his money for four years to be able to buy the Model S of his dreams. Someone keyed it the very next day after he took delivery of it.
He had to drag the guy into Small Claims Court to recoup the money it cost to get the panel re-painted. The perp refused to answer the Judge when asked why he did it, so the Judge awarded the maximum amount you can get from Small Claims: $8,000. Serves him right.

It still wasn't enough to cover the entire cost of the paint job; the Tesla's owner had to come about $200 out-of-pocket because when you have a big scratch on your car you can't just touch up the panels; you need to re-paint the whole car or the color difference between the old paint and the new will stand out.

Imagine being the person that keys a person car and then has to answer for it in a court of law.
Been there. I was young and angry at this woman for nearly causing a wreck. She blew me off when I tried to talk to her at our destination, and my anger got the best of me. She showed up at my court hearing (surprise to me) and told the judge that she held part of the blame and to be easy on me 😳 I had to pay the repairs, and court fees and 5 years of good behavior to expunge it from my record. I regret it and never did anything like that ever again!!
