      They've got the person's tag (but no real footage of the driver).
      Give a copy of the video to every driver involved. That will mean that every driver will get a copy of the report which will identify the owner of the vehicle and their insurance carrier (or none, which is more likely). Of more importance: It will reveal the registered address for the owner.
      Even if the police won't go after them at that time, they might when the vehicle is later found as a blackened hulk in the driveway...

    # 14 As a former Paramedic, we were legally allowed to break certain laws in regards to the highways act such as running red lights, driving across solid yellow lines, driving against traffic etc. But if we were in a collision while doing so, We WERE held responsible as we were not following the rules of the road. We knew we had to make sure we could do whatever we needed to in a safe manner or we would be held liable. The light was orange for at least 3 seconds. You never accelerate towards an intersection, you should reduce your speed since you are approaching an area where the chance of an accident is higher. He should have slowed down and stopped at the line. The orange/amber light is not your sign to floor it to get through, its to tell you to stop if it is safe to do so. Then his answer to the other drivers actions is to be more aggressive. Absolutely shocking driving and not surprising since he is so young. There is a reason most countries only allow you to get a license at 18. And really, its his parents car so he should have been driving even more carefully since its not his own personal vehicle.

  • @wylieecoyote
    @wylieecoyote 2 месяца назад +32

    Retired Police Accident Reconstructionist here.. weighing in on some of the incidents:
    * Police car was at fault for the accident. Police with active emergency equipment always have right of way, however they must be seen. There is no way to have seen the car make a u-turn from behind large vehicles. It was poor planning to turn there and not worth the risk when a simple traffic violation was the reason for the turn.
    Unfortunately some younger officers fail to realize that emergency lights and siren allow them to violate all laws except that of physics. Officers should not travel too fast in congested areas - they cannot help anyone if they don't arrive.
    * Mustafa: He should have been paying better attention and not run the red light, then made the mater worse by trying to pass the overtaken vehicle. The overtaken vehicle changing lanes was not at fault - that driver cannot be expected to yield to a vehicle committing a traffic violation, such as running a red light. We have to drive as if other vehicles will obey traffic laws or driving would be impossible. In this case Mustafa ran the red light, accelerating to try to beat yellow and was approaching the other car from the rear.
    * The nails in the road is littering and placing hazardous substance on the road as well as attempted destruction of property. I would have placed charges if I could identify the perpetrator. We cannot overlook these seemingly minor crimes - I believe the "Broken Windows Theory." (Wiki has an article about it).
    People like the bus driver in the #1 spot should not have a license. He endangered the whole bus of people and only delayed them. If I could pass on wisdom to people, it would be to drive chill because taking risks saves only seconds and risks injury and huge delays. Stop at every stop sign!

    • @SVEVelsen
      @SVEVelsen 2 месяца назад

      Eh....? So you're saying that a dangerous granny driver who indicates for ages without changing lanes (thus invalidating his signal), then doesn't use his mirrors when executing a blind suicide-merge isn't at fault? And when he deliberately tries to push Mustafa out of his lane in clear use of a vehicle as a weapon, that's also okay?
      Looked like a clear 50-50 situation to me.

    • @wylieecoyote
      @wylieecoyote 2 месяца назад +1

      @@SVEVelsen I didn't say anything about a "granny" signalling and not using "his" mirrors.
      What I said was that the law does not require a driver to anticipate that another driver will commit a traffic violation. We must expect that other drivers stop at red lights or stop signs or we would not be able to drive at all.
      You said the driver made a "blind suicide merge" and then said "deliberately push.. out of his lane.. use of vehicle as a weapon".
      You cannot do both - blind 'suicide' merge means not looking when changing lanes, while deliberately using the vehicle as weapon means there is intention. You cannot intentionally hit someone if you do not look or know they are there.
      If a person intentionally hit another they are at fault.
      If they do not yield to another's right of way they are at fault.
      Mustafa ran the red light and the other driver could not have anticipated that.
      If there were cross traffic with a green and Mustafa hit them, it is the same principle..
      Furthermore, Mustafa was speeding and improperly tried to pass the overtaken vehicle.
      The turn signal for miles example you mentioned is irrelevant - it is not a traffic violation, just a signal of intention. The vehicle being overtaken while in the roadway lawfully has right of way. This is a basic principle of driving.
      People need to be more patient. The US alone has 40,000 fatal accidents EVERY YEAR. A couple seconds of patience is worth a life.
      Insurance may split payments, but there is rarely a case where there isn't a clear person at fault. There are contributing factors in some cases, but that does not impact assignment of fault.
      When we look at these there is usually a 1st event or violation that began the chain of events that leads to a collision. In this case they did not hit each other, but we can take lessons and learn from the each encounter shown, as Wham Baam Teslacam does so well.

    • @ShaddowDemon
      @ShaddowDemon 2 месяца назад +1

      That is a very common misconception. It is not illegal in most jurisdictions in the US to change lanes in an intersection. To be cited, it would have to be an "unsafe lane change" and the officer would have to articulate why it was unsafe if you actually get cited and you choose to fight it. • @theElemDragon
      @theElemDragon 2 месяца назад +5

      Unfortunately that's not the case in the majority of situations. A crime has to actually be committed for charges of such to be filed. "Attempted vandalism" isn't a thing. That'd be like if someone grabs something off a shelf, stuffs it in their coat or purse or what have you, and then takes it back out and puts it back on the shelf, and calling that "Attempted theft". It's not illegal unless it actually happens.
      Kinda like working in a liquor store. If someone hands you a fake ID to try to purchase alcohol, but you catch it before the purchase is made, the most the cops can do is cite the person for the fake ID and confiscate it. I don't even think "Attempting to purchase alcohol with a fake ID" is a crime, cause we've already had cops ask us "Why are we here then?" if someone DIDN'T make the purchase with the fake ID and we called the cops to come out.

They haven't stolen anything yet, they haven't attempted to leave the store...but they're still arrested.
      When I watch these I'm always griping at the monitor "I hope these cops never see the inside of a Lidl store, because EVERYONE is stuffing things into their own bags and pockets there!" (Lidl *wants* you to bring your own tote bags or just use your pockets, as long as you pull it out and pay for it all at the register. If you need bags, you get charged.)

      @@carriebartkowiak Though I'm pretty sure in the majority of those cases, the people they're watching either in person or through CCTV putting stuff in their pockets/bags/etc... and calling the police on, are people whom that specific occurrence is not their first rodeo. Just like how police can't exactly arrest someone for an ATTEMPTED crime, they also basically prefer to catch said people red-handed in the middle of the act.
      Again, like working at a liquor store, there was a fraud ring going around that would purchase items over the phone as a curbside order using fraudulently acquired card details. They would usually order the stuff in the early/mid afternoon, and most of the time came in to pick it up after dark. We informed the police, they were well aware of what was going on, but they refused to attempt any arrest until they actually made it out of the store with the product. Why? Because while "Video evidence" of a crime having been committed can be questioned (poor quality, hard to exactly identify who did it, etc...), catching them in the act basically eliminates any chances of "It wasn't me" being viable.

    And we've got a later clip where a man PURPOSELY attempted vandalism*, but the cops won't charge the guy.
    Seriously!?!??
    Since when are the COPS granted the power of a JUDGE, and can determine whether or not someone is guilty of a crime?
    The cops can arrest and charge someone based on Probable Cause (which is CLEARLY present here in these clips), and then it's up to the District Attorney whether or not to proceed with the case or drop the charges, and it's up to the JUDGE (or a jury) to determine whether or not the person is guilty.
    *I say attempted vandalism, but truly that tire sabotage was incredibly dangerous. Imagine going down the road at 65mph and the tire blows out from those sharp implements. There's all kinds of really bad and even lethal possibilities with that situation.

If you are driving at a reasonable speed, and you have time to stop, stop (also, look in your rear view mirror to see what's happening behind you). Always "think something" about someone with a turn signal on because you have to try and anticipate their behavior. Anticipate them doing something stupid, and look at what's happening around you to figure your way out if you need it. The most important thing for new drivers to learn (aside from never driving distracted) is _anticipatory, defensive driving._ I have been driving for many years, have had very few accidents, and have avoided hundreds by being fully present and _never being distracted._

    * Mustafa had at least 4 seconds of yellow light to come to a safe stop. It was well within his control, he was either distracted or had poor judgement (The latter is understandable for an inexperienced driver- But it doesn't excuse his behavior)
    * Beige car was making an unsafe lane change (It's illegal to change lanes within an intersection). Mustafa was right to honk at that car.
    * Mustafa was wrong to aggressively pass the beige car.
    * Beige car driver was wrong to try to push Mustafa out of his lane.
    Overall, I'd say that Mustafa was more in the wrong for speeding, aggressive lane change (Indicative of road rage) and running a red light. The beige car was also wrong for making an unsafe lane change and road rage, but that was triggered by Mustafa's own road rage.

Suppose this person had been placing nails or other sharp objects (glass, or razor blades) at the end of a kid’s slide in a park, or along a beach somewhere? You can see how this little “defect” in the perp’s thought processes might ultimately cause much greater harm in the future. Even if no crime had been committed, the perp could have been warned, put into the system, and if similar future incidents showed up in this neighborhood, the perp would be one of the first persons questioned and investigated. I think the perp would then think twice about the consequences of his actions. Same goes for the brake checker, I’m sure there is a law against it.

      And would it be legal to use that on a car? If police and/or first responders can't break your glass...?
      I know police/FR wouldn't be trying to enter the car through that tiny window, but a lot of laws don't make sense and/or politicians don't take small details like "non-entry window" into account when they make a blanket statement "your vehicle windows must be made of safety glass" law.
      I wonder if you got a piece of Lexan cut to the same shape and just glued it OVER/ONTO the existing window, if it would still protect the glass, or if the compressive force from the punch tool would travel through the Lexan and still break the window underneath it? (I mean, the seat-flip thing is useful and all, but it would be a much better solution to not allow the window to be broken in the first place and avoid that replacement cost. There are folks who've submitted videos in places like SanFran who've had to replace that little window 4-5 times because they keep getting targeted.)

      Correct, we all know the Mazda driver committed a crime. The problem for proving it is they can always say they didn’t see what happened in their rearview mirror, and they can also say they came to a stop because it looked like somebody in the other lane was going to come into their lane. However, nothing is preventing anyone of those people from suing the Mazda driver.

    Regarding the red-light incident:
    Here, in Texas, the yellow light legally must be on for a minimum of one second for every 10 mph (16 Km/h) of posted speed limit. So, on a road with a (for example) 30 mph speed limit, the yellow light must be on for a minimum of three seconds. In other jurisdictions, whether it is a law or not, it should be at least a rule of thumb or a guideline. YMMV.
    So, knowing that rule, when approaching intersections and the traffic light goes from green to yellow, I immediately start counting mentally, "one one thousand, two one thousand, etc." and some quick mental math including how quickly I am approaching the intersection and how many seconds are left. The last variable is if another driver is riding my back bumper. Then the answer presents itself as to whether I should cruise through, brake, or drop the hammer (accelerate hard). Here, in Texas, red light cameras are now illegal, so that's one less variable here.
    In some jurisdictions, when red-light cameras are installed, the yellow light is shortened. When this is done, questions about increased revenue vs. increased safety tend to arise.
    Do your Math, people!

    In Mustafa's case, they're both in the wrong. He should have been slowing down LONG before reaching the intersection. He ran a red light, and saying it was out of his control is absurd. The other driver changed lanes in the intersection, so I understand hoking at that point to let them know you're there to prevent a collision. However, you then get aggressive trying to get around them, making the situation worse. Mustafa needs to head back to driver's training if he needs this explained to him.
