    As 2020 the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth I aim to record all 32 piano sonatas before the end of the year. Beethoven 32 Piano Sonata Playlist (+ additional works - in Progress) • Beethoven
    For those that like to support the projects of online creators from as little as 1$ a month: / paulbarton
    In this video I mixed the traditional sustain with the 4th harmonic pedal.
    *The monitor on the music stand is something I put together myself and is experimental. I turn score pages with my left foot. The monitor is ideal for teaching as it can show close-ups of notes etc. Photos of this monitor can be seen on my Facebook page: / paulbartonpiano

      pathetic...... I hear the rants, the rage. I hear my life on the keys of your piano. In 35 years married, it was over with 8 words. I can relate my life to this, Paul. Nothing you've ever heard from me before, i change my user name frequently, trying to find myself. This one names it.
      The others were donavan, navillus, well indica-ted. I adore your life portrayed with Emilie, it's intrigued me since she slept on the piano top. I amazed at how frenzied my life became, and how the music is spot on yo that frenzy.
      Pathetique for sure..... and now the bitter end, alone in the dark. TY soo much Paul. Beautiful piece, most of what you play I hear for the first time. I'm learning to love the classics through you! And Em!

      @niklas2heat79 4 года назад +33

      @@socraticgadfly I don't understand comments like this. There is no problem in disliking a performance, but why do some people always feel the urge to convince others to feel the same way? If i don't like something, i usually just stop watching and call it a day, because randomly criticizing, or pressing the dislike button, doesn't do anything for me, nor for anyone else, and if i see, that some people, in this case the vast majority, enjoy what they see/hear, then why would i question that.
      And by the way, his choice of tempo, matches that of many established concert pianists (e.g. zimerman & barenboim), so your "point" is in general, more than questionable.

    Lo stacco del tempo allegro è bucolico e pastorale, che occhieggia al Sinfonismo .... romantico. Lo stile GALANTE cede il Passo al nuovo stile tanto amato da IGNAZIO MOSCHELES.
    Lo stacco del tempo è dunque verosimile, cambia l adrenalina di un Horowitz o di Zimmerman.
    Loro hanno un energia che che dà direzione al teatro e al dramma. Ma Barton è un esecutore egregio e soprattutto divulgatore e ottimo didatta. Complimenti al musicista. Un dono di paziente ARTISTA

    This was one of my performance pieces. Playing a piece that is at your best skill level isn't always as easy as it seems. There's more than just the technical part. Having someone playing a piece that is far below their skill level is a pleasure. They can concentrate more in the performance aspect. All the dynamics, phrasing, hand weight, etc, without worrying about playing a wrong note.

  • @medicropper

    My piano instructor made me learn the first movement for a recital. I had never heard it before I was forced to play it. Never really did like it. Still don’t. After my recital I never played it again, but I learned the complete Moonlight Sonata which I greatly prefer to the pathetique, but stopped piano all together before perfecting it due to my obsession with growing cannabis plants. I really liked your timing here Paul, and that second movement digs deep into my soul every time I hear it. It’s one of my favorite melodies in classical music. Thank you for all you do.

      Ehhh. Mr. Barton is very good, but nobody will top Barenboim's performance for a while. He makes the sound so smooth where it needs to be, almost like an orchestra. But I think Barton was inspired by Barenboim for this performance.

    • @cadedundon8616
      @cadedundon8616 2 года назад +2

      @@highgroundproductions8590 although that is true, I believe the reason why I keep coming back to Mr. Barton's interpretation is the usage of his strict time in the first movement within those allegro sections. Although Barenboim gives it a very a nice orchestral sound and feel, he was in a concert setting. I feel like the chamber sound this video provides just gives the piece more energy, especially within the tremolo bass. Both still have very subtle differences that make each interpretation unique.

      @@cadedundon8616 Seriously, comparing Barton to Barenboim, whats wrong with you guys.
      I appreciate Paul Barton's dedication and I carefully listened to a lot of things he has done, particularly the WTC of Bach, but he is nowhere near professionals as Barenboim. He lacks flexibility, sound quality, he has difficulties making a cantabile sing naturally, he probably has difficulties memorizing works, which shows fragility of understanding the mechanics and structure, there is lacking of tension, dramatic power, passion, all those immaterial things which keep public captivated.
      Different galaxies, and if you can't observe it, you should stop comparing professional pianists, at this level piano is like quantum physics, one has to be specialized and understand what he is listening to, in order to have a valid opinion.

    Mr. Baarton, How long were you in Vienna? The videos I have found of you playing solo seem to be in Vienna. I've been stalking your history as a concert pianist as it is obvious in the elephant/piano videos that you are an incredibly accomplished pianist!. That combined with your talent as a painter is quite interesting. How can one have been kissed by two muses? And to marry a gifted sculptress. The combination is incredible!!

    Phenomenal. The slow tempo at the start of the first movement is interesting and a nice contrast for what's to come. You can really hear the effect of the Harmonic Pedal throughout, which to me seems a much more useful device than a Sostenuto pedal, as it allows the notes played to be as crisp, even staccato, as you need, while still having a nice shimmering echo from the instrument.

    Does anyone know what causes the screen on the music stand to change pages? Is it part of the Feurich or something added on?

      Some devices use a pedal for the left foot to send a signal. The new IPads use their camera to watch for the pianist to signal with their eyes or mouth.

      @@StephenGauger Thank you. That is amazing! But alas I have only an Acer Chromebook, and there is no pedal which will function with Chromebooks. At least, there was not last winter.

    Hi Paul. your performance is wonderful of course. Can you say what kind of tablet you are using to read sheet music. It doesn't look familiar to me. Does it function well for reading music, are you happy with how it performs?
