My Dad and my uncle used to drive across town and watch the mighty Oilers win the first two American Football League championships with the running of #20 Billy Cannon and #44 Charly Tolar, and the passing of #16 George Blanda. 5'6" Tolar was the first Oilers player AND AFL player to rush for 1000 yards. God bless our pro football heroes from a by-gone era🏈
I loved Billy, admired him my entire life! Got to talk to him at a card show in Bossier City for 30 minutes! I'm 74 and it was one of the Hi- lights of my life!!! RIP-Billy Cannon #20
I grew up in baton rouge and he was my orthodontist. I remember one visit when he had his heisman trophy on display in the back for his patients to see. He was so kind and always had a smile. He remained a friend of my family until the end of his life. That was my first raider connection. My second was living with and working for Kenny stabler in Orange beach Alabama during the late 80s early 90s. I drove him to work in mobile every day and back home. An hour and a half one way. There is some story's I could tell.... and well some I would never. Hehehe. R. I. P. My friend. You are missed something terrible.
As a Chiefs fan I got to see Billy Cannon play many times, including with the Chiefs in his last season of pro ball. He was a helluva player. Never knew about the off field incidents and his difficulties. I will fondly remember #33 for the Raiders and #80 for the Chiefs. RIP Billy.
I used to admire Billy, starting when he won his Heisman. We heard about him serving time in prison while dining at a restaurant in Louisiana. We inquired about a Heisman Trophy encased in a beautiful glass display case. We were told it was there because Cannon sold it to that restauranter.
We will never know how many lives were changed due to his improvement in the medical conditions in that prison Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference
Jealous fools (both fans and more experienced AFL players) booed him just because he was offered good money by the Houston Oilers who spotted his great talent. People (the masses of society) suck. They really do.
Interesting how you show Philadelphia, PA on the map as you tell us he was from Philadelphia, MS. 😄 But thank you for this educational video. Raiders for Life… ☠️
I like to see the old pictures of years ago, when players got their uniforms dirty. Especially in the early season, when most games were played in stadiums with their baseball diamonds exposed.
Gee...Bud Adams was wrong about one of his players! Ya' T HINK? Billy Cannon, George Blanda, Dan Pastorini, Ken Houston and.....Earl Campbell. That guy new about as much about how to run a successful pro football program as a sack of door knobs. He was lucky at times because he sometimes had good GMs and head coaches....and some great players. But he always managed to poop in his own nest.
All of the Mannings scored way more touchdowns in high school at Newman than Billy Cannon. I used to sit in front of Archie at the games and smile with pride too! 👍🏼

Everyone makes mistakes, Billy was a great man who redeemed himself. Great video !

I lived next door to Billy after he was released from lockup in Baton Rouge.
Philadelphia Missisippi, Huh ? Thats just a little SW of Pittsburgh-
Great story

Now I know.
Thank you guys.

That was really stupid.
Caught that one myself. The mention of Phila., MS brings to mind the great running back Marcus Dupree.
@@ldfreitas9437 ...& I've driven across that very Bridge in B Rge many times-
Billy wanted to play in a stadium that was packed every Saturday night. Tulane had 500 people in their stadium! He was smarter than you think!
Fascinating story. Great job.

Pete Roselle being involved in questionable business practices comes as quite a shock🤔🤭
The AFL was far better than the current NFL
Make a vídeo about Bo Jackson

His daughters in Tennessee don't appear to be doing much better

I never realized that the Mannings were so fleet footed in HS
At a small school
I bet the mannings had chin straps
Passing touchdowns?
Still better than all the mannings.
Billy Cannon was an LSU boy because he wasn't smart enough to handle Tulane ivy league academics. Lol. ROLL WAVE! 🌊
What about devry, international correspondence school, and ITT. You left a bunch of quality schools out!
Considering the morons being put out by the Ivy League schools, Tulane is probably a better education anyway.
