Black Jack Tatum was a viciously savage animal, snapping Daryl Stingley spine. It ended really sad for Jack with diabetes taking both of his legs before he died. The sight of both Stingley and Tatum in wheelchairs is one of the most bitter pictures in football history.
I met Ray Guy the year he was drafted. I was in a mall in Hayward, about 10 miles south of Oakland and I was wearing a Raider sweatshirt because my parents were a season-ticket holders. Ray Guy was walking through the mall with his girlfriend , saw me with the sweatshirt on, came over, introduced himself and shook my hand and talked to me for a few minutes, real cool guy, will never forget it. I was like 8 years old.
That’s a Cool story!👍🏈👍🏈… the family & I moved to Fremont in 1973 and we became Raider die-hards and had seasons for a few years. …back then was real football!
You were at Southland Mall in Hayward California. Growing up in Fremont California. That’s the mall I started ice skating at 12 and playing Hockey. Also spent my childhood going to the California Golden Seal Hockey games, Oakland Raiders Games, And was fortunate enough to go to two World Series games when The Oakland A’s won.
@@kenbody4370 No offense but I’m well aware what mall I was at. I didn’t mention it because unless you’re from the area the name would mean nothing to you. It’s not pertinent to the story anyway.
A very well done tribute to a Guy who truly deserved it. Ray was the Raider's secret weapon that no one else had and everyone else wished they did. RIP Ray Guy
The greatest punter in NFL history. He played quarterback also, he was just a great all-around athlete. Just a side point, he hit the gondola in the New Orleans Super Dome.
I had season tickets to the Raiders during this time period. When they played the Colesium was electrified. During one Monday night football game between the Raiders and the Houston Oilers Ray Guy had a phenomenal night punting the football giving the Raiders a huge advantage. The Oilers coach, Bum Phillips, stated that he thought the Raiderrs had cheated by filling the football with helium. He took a few of these back to Houston and had them checked. No helium, just an incredible punting performance. Ray Guy was also a very good all around athlete.... I loved watching him play.
For those of us who were punters back in the day- Ray Guy was OUR guy. There was a fury to the way he punted, almost pushing the ball down onto his foot as he exploded through it.
have been waiting for this one. A true Raider and NFL legend. There are few undeniable GOATs (Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Tom Brady), but Guy may be the most undeniable GOAT . redefined, then refined the position as a weapon. Simple the greatest.
Driving past the Oakland coliseum on game day while they were warming up, Guy's punts were so high you could see them over the horizon from the highway.
I saw Ray at Kenny Stabler's summer camp in Marion, Alabama. I once stood right behind him and wearing a visor I looked straight up after his punt, but still didn't see the ball, so I arched my head back further and spotted it. He was unbelievable.
A tremendous athlete who also played QB in Highschool. Quite a Proactive move by the 🏴☠️ The strategy of field position in the NFL wasn't a priority then? That's why Ray's in the HOF! He changed the game of 🏈
Just to let people know how great this Guy was. I was born in 1972 , Guy was drafted in 72 , and yet I knew about Ray Guy all through my early childhood years! He’s simply the goat and there was also Roby from Miami?
Back in the 70's the Raiders had training camp in Santa Rosa, Cal. at a hotel called El Rancho Tropicana. My Brother lived behind their fields, and one time I went to visit him, and looked over the wood fence to watch them. Ray Guy was out on one field all by himself with 2 blocking dummies set up at the 20 yard line. He was punting balls 80 yards into the far end zone on a fly. I could not believe it.
Sammy Baugh 1939-1952 in the NFL: had a career punting average of 45.1 Ray Guy's average was only 42.4 Sammy Baugh was also one of the greatest quarterbacks in history of the NFL.
As a former punter, every Ray Pelfrey kicking camp I attended Ray was considered the apex by our head trainer Ray Pelfrey Sr. who often spoke often about the early years of Ray Guy training to punt the ball.
When Ray Guy was inducted into the pro football Hall of Fame there were 18 other punters in attentendence to support the "godfather of punters". Guy's main talent, besides leg strength was in punting to the exact spot where the ball should land, often punting it to the 5 or 10 yard line at an angle so that it would roll out of bounds, preventing a return.
Ray Guy brought to sports bars everywhere the NFL term "Hang Time." This years kick-off rules change now makes it obsolete, as players no loner run down the field during a kick-off and try to catch the punt receiver after the ball is caught.
Reno Nv. U.S.A.!!! Like Ray said,,, NOW WITH HIMSELF INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME,,, NOW WE CAN HAVE A FOOTBALL GAME!!! Coming from the East Bay,,, I got to watch Him play in the Oakland Coliseum !!!
I forget who the announcer was (maybe Dick Enberg), but I think it was a game at Mile High in Denver. Guy was punting and when the ball left his foot, all the announcer could say was “Oh my!”. That ball rose like a rocket and just kept going and going.
Every kid in the Bay Area knew 3 players: Snake, Ghost, and Ray Guy. Off top of your head. (Of course when the 49ers started winning, all that changed). But Ray Guy stood out. Reggie Roby was the closest that you came in those days. In the 2010s, the 49ers has Amp Lee, and the Raidera had Shane Lechler. 2 outstanding punters in the Ray Guy vein. I loved those Bay Area battles, if not just to see those 2 punt it out. But Ray was the prototype. Rest in peace my man.
John Madden - CBS Color Commentary in Super Bowl XVIII: "Who Drafts a Punter in the 1st Round? We Did!! After, Ray went up to Retrieve a High Snap with 1 Hand & get the Punt Off!! Turning a Potential Disaster into a Flip of Field Position for the Raiders!!
The Longest Punt in NFL History was 98 yards by Steve O'Neal of the New York Jets (1969). O'Neal's 98-yard punt is the longest in NFL history, launched from the very back of the end zone. It was against the Detroit Lions and it still holds the record for longest punt ever. It's a mark that will be almost, if not completely, impossible for any future punters to match.
Jerrel Wilson - Kansas City Chiefs - Wilson led the league in punting an NFL-record four times, one more than Guy, and had a better career average (43.0) than Guy (42.4). Wilson went to three AFL All-Star Games in the 1960s and three more Pro Bowls in the 1970s.
I'll give you 2 punters that should be considered to join Ray Guy in Canton. One is Shane Lechler. He was a valuable weapon for the Raiders and later the Texans. Another is Michael Dickson.
The fact that a player of Ray Guy's quality had to wait for so long to be inducted to the HOF reinforces the feeling that the Raiders are consistently marginalised. Jim Plunkett is STILL nowhere near being inducted, depsite resurecting his career from the trash can and becoming not only a double Super Bowl winner, but the first Hispanic QB to win a Championship ring.
It actually begins floating at 2:04. It Appears to be a lighter-than-air aircraft consisting of a bag, called an envelope, which contains heated air. Learned about them in 2nd grade.

not a video. just pictures and commentary. your going to need video and commentary if you r going to attract many subscribers. although, commentary was good.
I like your videos a lot, and appreciate how much work you put into them. But I have to ask: why do you repeat yourself so often? Sometimes, within just a few sentences. I still remember commentators always talking about him before raider games.

One of my favorite Raiders player, the GOAT punter.

Red. Miller of the broncos said the same thing

Ray guy with no doubt the greatest punter ever
When punting a nerf football in my backyard I was always Ray Guy! Lmao.

Saw him in college. Never seen punts like his.
Before Ray, no one considered a punter as a valuable weapon

Slinging Sammy..
As a GB fan I back this, Craig Hentrich I believe was critically underrated in his prime

Ray Guy is the only punter l can remember their name.
But I was a Raiders fan back then and still am.
Once in a while someone comes along and redefines a position; so emphatically noone else can come close to it. That was Ray Guy.
Ray Guy was also a great athlete. He was also a defensive back and could play. Quarterback if needed. Plus, he was so good-looking.
I forget who the announcer was (maybe Dick Enberg), but I think it was a game at Mile High in Denver. Guy was punting and when the ball left his foot, all the announcer could say was “Oh my!”. That ball rose like a rocket and just kept going and going.

Enjoyed your comment...
Ray Guy was a decent passer of the ball too.
I agree that Ray Guy was the best punter of all time. My pick for 2nd would be Kansas City's Jerrel Wilson.
1.Ray Guy, 2.Darren Bennett..🏈🏈🏈🍺❤️🙏🤙
When you think of punting ray guy is the first name that comes to mind
Honestly, he's the only name I think of.
YES !!!
Yeah he was something.

Great LEG
He also played lurch in the Adams Family.😂😂😂😂
🐐 😊
That’s when the Raiders were the Raiders them days are long gone how the mighty have fallen
Never say never..
That's when real men played football and the Q-back was sometimes the toughest. Today the sport is moving towards flag football, with no contact.
@@dcasper8514 never say never we’ve been waiting for 40 years🏆🏆🏆
Great video
Danny White was the last starting quarterback to handle punting duties.
The Hall of Frame must of had their heads up their butts for not selecting him
Earlier. Totally unfair to a good man

Point we'll taken..
I NEVER CARED ABOUT PUNTERS...BUT IT MAKES SENSE THAT THEY CAN CHANGE THE GAME IN FIELD POSITION. AL DAVIS WAS A SMART MAN UNTIL HE GOT OLD...
Ray could hit to make no mistake about it. Could run and pass
Does anyone remember Don Chandler from Lombardi's Packers he was no Ray guy what was a pure punter but he also kicked field goals
Yes, I do..
Second-best would have to be a guy by the name of Brian Barker. Chiefs had him for a while then they traded him to Jacksonville.
He told people he was targeting the scoreboard at the Pro Bowl and hit it on purpose they raised it higher after that hit!!
New Orleans Super Dome I think it was at?
Right!
Could someone tell me why no one kicks to the coffin corner anymore? Go mike siani all the best from Thailand via Travis staten island. Peace out.
I wondered about that too..
Reggie Roby was pretty good.
Second? Matt Araiza. You'll see....

Reggie Roby was good.
Not to just keep it Raiders. I'd put Marquette King up there for sure. If not 2, top 3
