The Resilience of Jim Plunkett, a Raiders Legend
In 1971 Jim Plunkett graduated from Stanford University as a promising prospect and was chosen as the first overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. The expectations were immense: he was meant to be the quarterback who would finally lead the Patriots into a new era of glory. However the story took a different turn. After a few difficult seasons without leading the team to success, Plunkett felt that his time with the Patriots was coming to an end. He decided to request a trade, believing his future would shine elsewhere, and thus he ended up in San Francisco, hoping for a fresh start.

The story of Todd Christensen, the forgotten or nearly forgotten tight end He was a key pillar for the Raiders' conquest of the 1983 Super Bowl, but inexplicably, his name has faded over time. Perhaps it’s because his story doesn’t shine as brightly as Jim Plunkett's that year. Maybe it’s because he didn’t possess the fierce and charismatic aura of Howie Long. And perhaps, unlike Marcus Allen, ...

Al Davis: The Complete Story Behind the Legend of the Raiders
Plunkett has family in Albuquerque !!
Why isn't he in the Hall of Fame ?
To the Raider Nation: We MUST start a petition to change the name of the stadium to a "Coliseum." The Raiders have ALWAYS played in a Coliseum. Until Vegas, that is. Heck, it's Vegas! They can make it look like the colosseum in Rome. It'll fit, perfectly!
He was fun to watch 😊
The raiders are imposters since being blown out in the super bowl by the buccaneers in 2003.Jim.plunket should have been in the Hall of Fame.I hated al Davis for benching Marcus Allen and preventing him from breaking every record in the book.
I saw jim plunget play play as a senior at James lick high school in san jose. He threw a sixty five yard bomb In that game it was incredible!!
2 super bowl wins = Hall of fame!
I'm two years younger than Jim Plunkett, and I grew up a Boston Patriots fan. I remember like it was yesterday, the Pats drafting Plunkett and the miserable time he had on that team. It wasn't because Plunkett was a bad QB, but because the Patriots sucked back then. The team had no defense or offense to speak of, and the offensive line was worse than the one for Mac Jones. I was so glad to see Jim win two Super Bowls with the Raiders. If anyone deserved Super Bowl wins it was Jim Plunkett. WAKE UP, HOF!
Shouldn’t be in any hall of fame. Piece of garbage who doesn’t care about paralyzing other players. If he was playing on the other side of the ball I’m sure he’d feel different about how he “played the game”. Hitting defense receivers without the ball. That’s not hard to do. You just run at them and spear them with your helmet
The Raiders have had an impressive list of names that has played for the franchise over the decades especially in the 70s and 80s and have like and admired a lot of them. But one player for me stood head and shoulders above them all. Jim Plunkett was that man and is still my favourite Raider to this day. Not growing up in the USA, my introduction to American football was by a sports programme who a week after the Eagles/Raiders super bowl showed the highlights comparing it to an equivalent soccer match final from the country. I watch enthralled as this strange looking game unfolded and the one name I kept hearing was Jim Plunkett. Next I remember the Raiders/Redskins super bowl game was televised live and I remember nervously watching it live as I rooted for the Raiders and especially Jim Plunkett. I had no idea how they got there, who were favourites and what the rules were at this time, but for 3 hours I could not take my eyes of this fantastic spectacle. I was thrilled for Jim and the other name from the night, Marcus Allen, who broke all sort of records on the night. I also remember seeing my favourite actor James Garner walking the side-lines encouraging the players and praising them for a sack, a stop or interception. Sadly 1984 was to be the end of the Raiders for the next 40 years as they have failed miserable and have become one of the worst teams in the NFL ever. I am grateful to have been a fan when the team played exciting smash mouth football, took no prisoners and more importantly won divisions and super bowls. These days will never ever return to this teams but I console myself by watching SB 18 and relive what once was. Thank you Jim for being the greatest Raider of all time in my eyes.
Great Video! Thank You so very much for the upload.
Mr. Jim Otto was truly a Man’s Man!
Pound for Pound - Mr. Jim Otto is the Greatest Center In NFL History!
HOF!
In 1982 I used to see Howie and Lyle Alzado working out at Gold,s Gym in Venice; strong and massive!
HOF!! Long overdue.
According to the his ancestors he native American
Oakland is an overpriced 💩 🕳️ full of thugs, commiefornia is third world. The raiders should never return.
Jim Plunkett should be in the NFL Hall of Fame
I started watching the Raiders when Daryl Lamonica was the QB. Stabler took over for him and I was hooked. I lived and died by the Raiders. I was heartbroken when he was traded. He was my Tom Brady. RIP to the Snake!
Should have been in the HoF decades ago.
I hate to say it, but none of the 3 greatest franchises ( Warriors, A's, Raiders) will return to a city that has become such a S-hole like Oakland has. I feel sorry for the fans, but then again they have voted for the politicians who has allowed Oakland to go from fairly bad, to horrible.
ORALE!! Raiders the first salad bowl team vs the melted pot.
👍🤘🤘🤘
He is alot like Eli Manning. Give the man his jacket.
Plunkett should be in the HoF. The point of football for a QB is to lead the team to rings, not stack up meaningless numbers in losses.
A Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback who should DEFINITELY be in the Hall.
Very inspiring my favorite raider.
Who the heck is the sporting news. Sounds like someone just reading an article about someone they really don’t know anything about.
B.S. Since when does stickum give you talent.
Jim Plunkett and Kenny Anderson both should already be in the hall......
I remember him with the Oakland Raiders.
Damnit if Steve Grogan hadn't thrown the pass too high and Stingley obligated to catch it so he adjusted changing where Tatum normally hits that's why he was paralyzed. That's no reason to keep him out of the Hof, it was a legal hit!!!!! He was not a dirty player
Such a great back story in high school and life! I won’t go the hall till James is in. They keep pete rose out cuz off the field stuff well then take into consideration Jim’s off the field story and his personal come back in the pros. He could have just quit but being his parents son he knew what real setbacks were and knew exactly how to tackle them. It’s his story we want children to learn. My dad travelled all day to take me and my brother to see Jim play in college. he wanted us to see a real great athlete. We lived in the boonies. That day he set the ncaa passing record for most yards. I’ll never forget that day, my dad, and Jim. My brother became an all American basketball player I was team captain baseball, football, basketball. Kids need hero’s real hero’s that over come real obstacles! Vote Jim in!!
Awesome player and determination.
Jim and his Stanford team use to raid "all you can eat" restaurants ... they don't have all you can eat in Palo Alto area. 😜😜😜
My all-time favorite QB! Only 2x SB winner not in the Hall. (Eli not yet eligible)
Plunkett was always known as MR. CHOKE. Pitiful man with a pittiful career. Archie was by far the better quarterback who never had a good team around him.
A great quarterback he was out standing in the Super bowl in the 60s.
His parents blamed his death on Hollywood and the endless supply of drugs that were available
The only QB with two Super Bowls who isn't in the Hall of Fame!
JIM PLUNKETT IS THE GREATEST RAIDERS QB... OBVIOUSLY WITH 2 SUPER BOWL WINS!!!
That is a LIE. Plunket NEVER faced "prejudice". NEVER. The opposite is TRUE. He had his Non-White ass kissed every day.
he was pretty banged up by the time he retired. I think his knees were toast, no wheels left. What a great run to win those super bowls.
Jim should be in the Pro football Hall of fame!
Yes plain and simple
Because he was a raider
Hall of Fame's shame that Plunkett is not in. He was an outstanding Raider and a better man.
6th hardest hitter? who the hell are the five ahead of him?
Dick butkiss, Ronnie Lott...
