I was an Irish teen in the 90s and the Cranberries were basically the soundtrack to my youth! God I miss Dolores O'Riordan, gone way too young.
I was an African American teen in the 90's and the Cranberries was a soundtrack to my youth too LOLOL
Music transcends all I tell ya.
And I second for the beautiful Delores to RIP. She is missed for sure.
Snap
@@lisajohnson521 it does lisa ( music)
I was an Australian in the 1990's and guess what? Still am an Australian in the 2020's LOL!
Dolores? Who's that? I thought their lead singer was the actress Lori Petty 😜🙃😋
How can anyone not love Dolores O'Riordan's voice?
God, I miss her so much!!!😪😪😥
It all depends on if you can get used to the traditional music break/yodel she put in her voice that simultaneously tied her to traditional music but separated her her from the pop and rock music scene at the time. Unlike many singers before her like Sheena Easton, who spoke with a heavy Scottish brogue, she embraces her Irish accent in her singing. Those can be off-putting, but once you get used to it, her voice is rewarding. RIP
Dolores is my alltime fave female vocalist. ♥ from Australia
Love her unique voice ❤
It's an Irish cadence, to both her tone and her accent. Always on the verge of cracking, but staying 100% pure. Beautiful.
Such a wonderful way of putting it.
@@SteveA308 Cheers man 🙂 I love words.
@@jonnylumberjack6223 Ode to my Family you can hear it even more!
Limerick
@@dannyjones8602 very true and such insight
She had a very traditional Irish singing style and tone that I've heard many times in Sean Nós (traditional Irish singing), and which works surprisingly well in rock. Her voice was gorgeous, often gave me chills. I hate that she's not with us anymore.
Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí ar Dolores O'Riordan. (may Dolores rest in peace)
She was a national treasure for Ireland and we miss her in the States too.
Not just in peace, but in inexpressible joy!
Unique voice. Love that heavy Irish accent and she mixes an old galiec sound to modern music. Very interesting and all her own.
Absolute perfect Irish lilt - Great group loved them and still do
"Ode to My Family" next from them, please. Her voice is on full display.
My daughter was 15 when this came out. One Friday I came home from work and her and two of her friends were in her room singing along to this song and they had the stereo on full blast. I loved it. Great memories...
I'm feeling that Paul... nice one mate 👍✌️🇬🇧
This was always my favorite song by the Cranberries. I’ve always loved that Irish lilt in her voice. I could listen to it for hours. Thank you for this song. Memories
Dolores never tried to mask her Limerick accent. I absolutely love it. Her voice was a god-sent talent, and she shared it with all of us. God bless Dolores. :)
The voice of the late Dolores O'Riordan is otherworldly. I recommend the song "Dreams." One of my personal favorite Cranberries songs among their hits.
YES!
YESSSS! What she said!
Dreams is beautiful
"Otherworldly" and "Irish" seem to go together, in a good way.
Very interesting and spiritual people.
Much love, Ireland.
One of my favorites songs by the cranberries
Me too, I LOVE it. I still know every single word to this song.
I love her voice! Her passing was so sad! This is one of my favorite songs!
As Bono said what a loss to the world of music, Dolores O'Riordan was so special & her irish accent came through beautifully in her voice.
To bad it wasn't bono!
I miss her so much, she was so beautiful and she had the most haunting unique voice. RIP Dolores
I'm mostly a Metal head/ Rock music fan but this is one of my favorite songs of all time.R.I.P. Delores 🌹
Oh yes! My favorite by them! So beautiful and bittersweet! Glad you checked this one out! 💕
OMG this song... Such good memories of an era when female singer-songwriters dominated the radio, gave us all reasons to pause and reflect because the songs were so introspective. We had Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Lisa Loeb, The Cranberries, Loreena McKennitt-- overlapping the grunge Rock era where guys got to bare their souls too.
Mazzy star (Hope Sandoval), Alanis morrissette.
And Gwen Stefani, Shirley Manson of Garbage, Lauryn Hill, Portishead and so on, great time to female artist, I miss that incredible time.
.Her Irish voice is soulful ...such a Celtic Beauty...she is Missed Rest in Peace Delores 🙏
The lush instrumentals definitely share equal billing with her voice. The Strings are to DIE for
Beautiful song. RIP Dolores
Delores is overdubbing herself to provide both the harmony to the vocals, but also adding the high "ah" vocals over the top of it all. She does the same in "Dreams", which you should listen to (if you haven't already). It gave the Cranberries their unique sound.
The Cranberries are quite cool. I am black.. I am over 50 years old. And how I know that it is an Irish group who were very much down with the cause for their own people who were not being treated well... "Zombie" the song speaks of this... Forces who keep people down for their own cause. England/Ireland????
She is now passed away , the lead singer. I use to hear the Cranberries but I happened upon a really cool Irish American guy who gave me the info about this group. I lived in DC for years and hung out in Adams Morgan one of the most diverse cool places in DC.. I was there when the cool, music loving, foreign people hung out there. Arabs, English, Jamaicans, French, Africans, Afro Americans, Brazilians, Philippines, White Americans.... We had a blast and We all had each others back. Partied , worked talked and did what was really good fun..... We cared about each other.
What’s crazy is much of black American culture is based on English/Scottish/Irish sub culture
I was born to Irish parents in England. As a child all of my friends were of Caribbean descent. There must be something that made us connect. Formerly oppressed people and immigrants? Not sure. Unfortunately as we all got older we moved apart. As an almost 50 year old man now I have many English friends, and I think we should be more grateful to our host nation regardless of history.
You two should give The Sunday's a try if you like The Cranberries. They have a similar vibe. Especially the atmospheric instrumentation and a killer female lead vocalist. Cheers
Wild Horses....good call
Harriet Wheeler is the singer in The Sunday's. What a gorgeous voice! Here's Where the Story Ends and Summertime would definitely be worth listening to.
@@Tyrannosaurus_STFU_III even better than the original version
Agree on the Sundays. I’d add Sixpence None the Richer.
"Empty" is my favorite Cranberries song, i was so sad when i heard of her passing like if she was a family member since i grew up with their music 😔
This song is beautiful
Miss her😥🤘❤️ that is her voice in the background too
Dolores never hid her Irish lilt, accent. I love the sound of it. Very haunting vocalist. RIP
This song has a much softer tone, Linger is the opening song on its album. It's a mix of her Irish accent and her keening style that makes her unmistakable
I could listen to Dolores sing all day, every day ❤️
This is a mood that takes you out of the stratosphere with those angelic, soaring backing vocals, strings, and O'Riordan's hypnotic voice. She suffered a lot of anxiety and had a tough time sleeping, insomnia being an issue in her life. But it was actually alcohol that killed her one day as she passed out in the bath intoxicated and drowned. Very sad, indeed.
Beautiful Song pick! She and the band are native Ireland... she def has a unique voice... she has a hard accent, so when she sings English songs, it naturally carries over into the sound of how she sings... Huge band in the mid 90's, this band was huge in 1996, when I was younger, I recall getting the new CD, loved it, still adore her...sad but she died way young...
Delores had a voice that caressed your soul. Whether in this whimsical way, or the incredibly moving Zombie, or the hopeful Dreams. I’m Scottish and miss her sound. It reached across the Celtic traditions and beyond.
This song is so moving and beautiful, I still get chills as soon as I hear the intro, and her softly humming like an Angel.
Every time I hear this I get goosebumps and I can’t explain why lol
Her notes and words had wings - they simply go from your heart to your soul...
The Cranberries' first two albums were staples of my college life. If you want a treat, check out "Daffodil's Lament" - it was never a hit, but it is an amazingly beautiful song in two parts. The first part is oppressive and weighty, and then a fog lifts and the song soars emotionally! It's my favorite by the band.
That whole record is astounding. My personal favorite off it is Disappointment. Or maybe Ridiculous Thoughts. But the whole damn thing, front to back.
Such an Angel voice that could also bring power behind it as well. Gone to soon. R.I.P Dolores
My daughter sang this with my sons band at our festival just a week ago. It was amazing to see this here. We’re Irish hillbilly’s so it was a special treat. God bless y’all. Thanks
Love it guys. Big love from Ireland. the home of the Cranberries. Appreciate you.
I have seen the Cranberries in concert and it was at a relatively small venue and her voice is just light air, soothing and just awesome. If you want to hear another song by them that did not get alot of radio play but show another side of their particular style you should react to the song "Ode to the my Family" Love your channel and insight into what your review.
Sings like an angel. Love you two!
Such a beautiful voice. RIP Delores O'Riordan. As far as the specifics of her singing voice, I've always thought of it as like very fine-grit sandpaper wrapped in silk. There is this little bit of grain in there, but it's all just smoothed out because she stays in that strong chest range. But "strong" in a relative way here because it's almost a whisper. Just so unique, and so pretty.
This song brings back such great memories for me. I was the first of my close knit group of friends to get my driver's license. My bestie made me a mixed tape for my car. This song is on the tape, which I still have. 💜
You're correct, this song was written about a breakup with her first boyfriend. Also, I know this was used in the TV show Community, but not sure what episode. Other songs of theirs were in the movies Clueless, Empire Records, etc. So BJ is intuitively on the right track. 😉
There's something kind of special about their song *Ode to my Family.* That's the next one I'd recommend for you.
Making mixtapes really shows your age I'm right there with you. Taking your time listening to radio just to catch the song to record it or dubbing songs from other tapes. Damn your comment made me reminisce👍😉
Oh mix tapes were great
Nothing like a good mix tape made from the heart!!! I still have some from highschool but no way to play them.
The way it was used in Community was pretty funny actually, they reworked the lyrics to make it a wedding song.
"You know she's such a fool for you,
she's got a ring around her finger,
Britta's marrying, Britta's marrying, Britta's marrying Jeffrey Winger"
@@Siegmeyer. 😂 such a great show
I’d recommend “Ode to my Family” next by the Cranberries. Wonderful band. Great reaction guys 🙋🏻♀️🙌🏼👍🏼👋🏼💜🇨🇦
RIP Delores one of the greatest voices ever........
Beautiful voice with a lovely Irish lilt. We miss you, Dolores.
I love the marching drum sound,it’s amazing 💕💕💕
Dolores deserves all the praise in the world but the rest of the band deserves more than it gets. They are so solid and are an integral part of their sound.
Her voice has an ethereal quality - it's harsher in Zombie to fit the song but dreamy in " Promises " and " Dreams " both well worth listening to
This is about my favorite song from the 90s. MS Delores voice hooked me. I went out and brought 4 CDs of them. I always loved Irish and female singers . Her voice as people say is unique . I like everyone of the songs they did. People will sometimes debate about different decades of music or different jinders. But I am 63.and I love music I don't care what decade it's from or what typge you want to call it good music is good music. If someone only wants to listen too 1 kind of music they are missing a lot of great music
Gone way too soon; Dolores has a unique voice.
I read this was the first song Delores wrote (but not as a member of a band) and a demo cut in 1990. RIP~❤️
Dolores O'Riordan. Omg her voice! Someone so special. She's truly missed.
I won this cd at a bar while in college in 93. loved it since. she was awesome
Ode To My Family is also a nice ballad from the Cranberries.
I listened to this album and loved listening and singing on road trips. Got my 2 nieces hooked on The Cranberries. Dolores could reel you in with her voice and her guitar. RIP SWEET IRISH DOLORES. ❤
Man, that voice.... straight out of heaven man.
I grew up even with this tremendous irish band! Love Ireland!
There's something to be said about an artist whose voice sounds like home to someone from a different continent. I'm 100% patriotic American, but Delores' delivery grabbed me from the first note twenty-however-many years ago. 💙 from a couple hours south!
Dolores had a mezzo-soprano voice and with her signature yodel, emphasized use of keening, and strong Limerick accent gave her one of the most unique and beautiful voices of her time.
Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan was an Irish musician, singer and songwriter. signature yodel, emphasised use of keening, and strong Limerick accent. Keening - (of a sound) prolonged and high-pitched, typically in a way that expresses grief or sorrow.
"a keening soprano voice"
One Of My Fave Lady Singers!😍🤗🙆🤣🎶💃
You have to react to Ode to Family. It showcases Dolores unique vocals to perfection.
The uniqueness to her voice is her Irish accent a stunningly beautiful daughter of Éireann's isle. RIP Dolores O'Riordan.
Another great Irish Band...
Voice of an angel Dolores. RIP
You two folks are one cool couple. Great work, great vibes. Cheers
One of the hugest 1990's bands. This song has been in a million TV shows and movies. As soon as you hear it you just think 90's. Anything set in the 1990's, besides grunge, they usually play the Cranberries. It basically captures the whole decades vibe.
My 5yr old granddaughter songs this is just the best..
You guys have pretty much done just about all my favorites from them other than When You're Gone which I also love.
What a voice…❤️
I have absolutely loved therm! RIP Delores!
I love your videos! You guys are honest on your reactions.
You two should listen to Garbage. They have some great songs from this same era in music history.
it is called keening. That is how she sings. Try Dreams and Ode to my family. both great songs. RIP Delores
Hot dam the Irish can sing, sad she passed away way to early but she and her band left us such beautiful songs to cherish. Only regret is not seeing the cranberries live and many more (miss Aretha Franklin, Chris Cornell, prince, Michael Jackson.) sucks we can’t see them live but their music and videos of them singing last online and I’m grateful for that.
Great song, great singer. You deserved better, Dolores. RIP.
Thank y'all for doing this one❤
One of our closest friends (she is with us on holiday this week) comes from just down the coast. She sings Cranberries songs just like Dolores. She said in the times the pubs were full of Irish gals singing at the top of their voices.
As kids singing along to this song we used to substitute with “did you have to smell your finger”
Yep my 90's group.... Amazing..
This is one of my favorite bands..theres a younger version of cranberies by the Franz Rythm Band..(father and kids jamming)..you can comment on their cover of linger, zombie, dreams, etc.
This song was all over MTV my freshman year of college and hearing it always puts me back in that time, still living with my parents (both gone now) and partying with my friends. It was a great time for new music.
There was a band (forgot their name) covering Zombie and she was comin to America to visit them and be involved but unfortunately she passed shortly beforehand if im not mistaken
She's Irish. She keens when she sings and it's beautiful.
It's that Irish accent, especially on her R's. Really pretty.
Great reaction. The only thing added is her own harmony behind her vocals; check out some of her live stuff, and you will see that her singing is raw and unbelievable.
I'm 46 and I can tell you that 90s pop-rock ruled. I suggest "Plush- Stone Temple Pilots." Trust me, guys. Oh, or "Creep"
She is from Limerick, Ireland and was born and raised there. May she rest in peace..She is so deeply missed.. She was very special to me..My ancestors are from Ireland so she held a piece of me heart.
Her voice is basically just Traditional Irish put in a pop/rock arrangement.
Her voice is a beautiful chalky voice.😊
R.I.P. DOLORES you beautiful angel. 😇😇😇😇😇😇
This song reminds of my first days of working at my new job at that time. I cherish those times. I miss working there and those who I worked with all those years. Miss you guys.
Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan (/oʊˈrɪərdən/ oh-REER-dən; 6 September 1971 - 15 January 2018) was an Irish musician, singer and songwriter. She was best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the alternative rock band[2] the Cranberries. O'Riordan had one of the most recognisable voices in rock in the 1990s. She was known for her lilting mezzo-soprano voice, signature yodel, emphasised use of keening, and strong Limerick accent.
O'Riordan was born in County Limerick, Ireland, to a Catholic working-class family. She began to perform as a soloist in her church choir before leaving secondary school to join the Cranberries in 1990. Recognised for her "unique" voice, she quickly achieved worldwide fame. During her lifetime, she released seven studio albums with the Cranberries, including four number-one albums.
When a sound defined a whole generation… what a good old times… 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
The pain in her voice, makes me cry every time I hear this song. They had some great music. You should try doing I Just Shot John Lennon, great song and nice tribute to John.
I miss The Cranberries!!! Delores has one of the most unique and iconic voices! Their album "No Need To Argue" is one of my favorites. More of them, you can't go wrong with any reaction choice from them. For me, another signature song is "When You're Gone" from their album "To the Faithful Departed"
You guys are wonderful 💓💓
Great album! Love the Sundays too! You guys should cover more Dream Pop like the Cocteau Twins.
