I love the Cranberries - I worked in Dublin in the late 80s - I recall a story from an Irish mate that her school principal used to get the whole school to stop and listen to her sing in morning assemblies and I can easily believe that - her singing is just so hauntingly beautiful, so pure and unique - and such pitch perfect delivery. No one comes close - so sad she left us too early...
Part of how she got that beautiful voice she had was when she was young growing up in Ireland her father taught her how to yodel. I don't know why she let herself go into an alcohol coma in a bathtub where she drowned because she had 3 kids too. In any event she went way too soon.
I’ll say it again. You two have the most genuine and real reaction channel I’ve seen. You’re not pandering and fake like so many others. Your openness and appreciation has grown your palate.
The first time I heard of the Cranberries they performed this song on Saturday Night Live. I was mesmerized buy this lovely woman and her beautiful voice and hooked.
This is one of those songs where the vocal melody moves me to tears. You can literally feel her heart breaking. Absolutely beautiful. And I’ll say it again. You guys are why rock will never die. Much love 💕
This Song is SO Stunningly GORGEOUS - I still remember Exactly where I was when the first time I heard it back in the 90's when I naively believed music could only EVOLVE to be better from that point on. Man was I Wrong.
As a music teacher, watching you two listen to the guitar solo side by side is my very favorite part of this video. The way you’re physicalizing the different elements of the music is fantastic; one of you bopping to the beat (as you then reveal is your background with rap/hip-hop) while the other sways smooth to the spacey guitar/synth solo. Your appreciation for the structure of the track… honestly made me tear up. When I dream of the kinds of music consumers my students will be when they grow up, I pray they end up like this. Forever seeking to expand their horizons, find meaning in music they didn’t previously understand, and most of all, APPRECIATING DOLORES’S CASUAL OPERATIC BADASSERY IN ALL ITS GLORY 😂😂😂 earnestly, NEVER stop doing this!
"what goes into it" - - in this case, she also orchestrated this song at a time she was very young. LOVED HER VOICE. Massive loss to music. RIP Dear Delores.
I'm so glad you reacted to The Cranberries again. Dolores O'Riordan was one of a kind, and her voice was pure heaven. She did the song Ave Maria and you should definitely check it out. Her voice will give you chills .
People can complain that you like every song but keep in mind that these are the same people who are requesting that you listen to the ALL TIME CLASSICS. The songs that have stood the test of time.
First time I heard this song was as I was driving to Atlanta for a TV audition (did that a lot). There was a great radio station that I always tuned into because they introduced me to bands like The Cranberries and Weezer. Love this song.
Brings tears to my eyes. I am wrapped around her finger to this day. She was very vulnerable and needed someone to love and protect her from the cruelty of this world.
It was cool to see you both vibing in two different ways. Jay bobbing along to the drum beat and Amber swaying to the haunting vocals and strings. Just goes to show that music is both a shared and individual experience simultaneously. Everyone can get something different from it.
I was able to turn my mom into a Cranberries fan as I took her to their concert in the Finger Lakes area of New York back in the late 90s. She fell in love with their beautiful sound. It made me so happy to share my love of The Cranberries with her.
Since you like Dolores O'Riordan's voice so much, I'd recommend checking out The Sundays. An English group with a female vocalist (Harriet Wheeler). She has a similar ethereal singing voice that is unforgettable. Their best known song is Here's Where the Story Ends, but I'd also recommend Summertime. It actually sounds like summer should sound IMO!
You guys could check out another Irish band, The Corrs, three sisters and a brother, with their song ‘Only When I Sleep’, they included some Celtic sounds in their music.
Rip this girl had one of the most amazing voices ever i mean its just genuine n there songs r genuine dreams zombie they r good together she had a tough life but she overcame it to make her one of the best band of the 90 s
Freaking loved The Cranberries in the 90s! And my friends and I definitely had this song on repeat. I figured you’ve reacted to “Zombie,” which I love but another one of my favorites that I feel really highlights Dolores’ voice is “Ode To My Family.”
She used to get the school bus with us every morning. Always had her guitar with her. Listened to Cranberries initially because I knew her, but quickly realised she was a huge talent. Drummer was brilliant too. Very emotional for any Limerick person to hear her voice and see nice posts such as yours
Always loved this song but seeing the way you both reacted made me happy ...I see alot of these songs you play I've never cared for but seeing how you see these songs makes me appreciate them ..thank you you are truly a breath of fresh air in a sometimes stale world ...
The most amazing voice, still gives me shivers. So sad she's gone 😢 Love your channel, first time I've really noticed the background vocals, absolutely stunning.
I really appreciate your reactions. Not only have you grown through this, you have made us appreciate all the artistry in music. You are lovely people.
This is my favorite of the Cranberries, but I want to reiterate: I love you guys because I get to rediscover why I fell in love with some of these old songs by watching your reactions and hearing why you feel they have value. Thanks for what you do.
I've said it before, I'm so happy you both have stepped out of your comfort zones and opened your musical hearts and minds to a world of unbelievable music from so many talented and beautiful artists from every corner of the earth!! The journey is just beginning...
Linger was The Cranberries second single, and first huge hit. Dreams was the first single, and it was rereleased as a single after the success of Dreams. I was starting out in college at the time, and I remember Linger being everywhere at the time. The music video is great as well, with a film noir aesthetic. The guitar style is heavily inspired by the first album's producer, Stephen Street, who produced a lot of work for The Smiths.
I feel in love with her voice when I first heard Zombie, and I had no idea just how beautiful her voice truly was! I miss all the music that she could have blessed us with! So sad! ♥️The old white woman
She is great and her voice is so unique. I seen the Cranberries live in a small venue and her voice is crystal clear and the entire show was just awesome. Your right on when you open your self up to different types of music you can understand and really appreciate the art of the songs. I love black sabbath and grunge yet I love the Cranberries just as much I have their first 3 discs which were my favorites. She holds her own with in a different style and a different way. Love the reaction.
I was your age in the 90’s and was fortunate to experience the music you react to as it was released. I get to relive that time through your eyes. Thank you
I love the official video for this. Timeless. The song was always a favorite, but has a much more deep, sad meaning to me the last few months. Blinking back tears listening to this.
Dolores O' Riordan sang from her raw, beautiful soul & could convey more emotion in one note than most singers can in an entire song. I love all her songs, but "God Be With You Ireland" is probably my favorite. It tears at my Irish soul. RIP Dolores.
In the beginning of this song her voice blended with the music so beautifully. I hardly noticed she was there at first. So lovely. Her voice gets stronger and stronger throughout the song just bringing you along with her with her emotion.
Both of the 1st 2 Cranberries albums; "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?" and "No Need To Argue" are both top to bottom masterful albums. Dolores had one of the most enduring singing styles and some of the most soulful lyrics out there. Discovering this music in my youth was such a major gift that keeps on giving.
Another "Siren" voice is Florence Welch from Florence + The machine... had the pleasure of seeing her live and about melted in my seat... she blew me away! Check out Shake it out or Heavy in your arms for a start!
You two are an absolute vibe. Im generally a hip hop head but as an Irish man it makes me so proud to see you enjoying these beautiful songs, and really genuinely feeling the music and taking the time to understand it. Much love! x
Hey guys, just wanted to extend my appreciation for your channel. I've seen at least 100 of your reactions by now over the past year to some of my favorite songs, but after you two described the journey you have been on musically the past year, it felt like I needed to say "thank you" at least once. You guys are at the top of my music reaction channel content creators, and as you know, there must be 100s of them. It speaks to how well you present your videos, your chemistry and your sincerity. And just to quickly mention this song in particular, it is fitting to leave a comment now, because this is one of those tracks I love listening to all the time. Its just a beautiful piece of music and special as it was the first "hit" for the Cranberries. A band I didn't give enough credit to in the moment, because at that age, I was into more aggressive-sounding music. As the years go by though, Dolores' voice just gets better every time I hear it. Such an amazing talent she was. One of my biggest regrets as a fan of live music was never giving myself a chance to see her perform live. A one-in-a-billion voice, and I may be estimating too low.
And, this was written by her when she was a teenager! Nuts, how some people are just gifted. She came up with all the lyrics and vocal melodies herself. In a couple of days of first meeting the rest of the band. First song her and Noel wrote together.
This song is from their first album where Zombie was from their second which was better in my opinion. Their third and fourth albums were faster and some harder stuff so check out some songs like: "Salvation", " "Free to Decide", "Just my Imagination", and "Promises"
Great observation Amber: The way words are enunciated add distinction to the vocals. You have made this statement before & you are correct. It adds yet another value to appreciate. Thank you!
oh! same for me... i love mythology too and the cranberries, especially because of dolores' voice. so i get you. i remember the first time i heard her sing back in the 90s and i really thought her voice sounded like a mythical being on its own. i just couldn't explain it but it's so hypnotizing...
Never fall for the criticism of actually enjoying every song. One, you both are smart and able to discern the nuts and bolts of great songs and the talent that made them stand out. Two, the songs being suggested ARE the best of the best! Love the channel and your beauty and passion.
This song obviously has a deep meaning but it’s also just so, so soothing to listen to. It’s become a song that I put on when my anxiety is hitting me, and man, does it ever help me just take a breath and relax.
As a former music ed major in college, I think Jay is spot on-the more you learn about music the more you appreciate ALL music even if you don’t particularly like it. Lemme tell ya, I didn’t like studying medieval music when going into it in my Music History I class, but after studying it enough, I learned how to appreciate it. We also used to start my music theory classes with a “listening exercise,” followed by discussion, which was sometimes a popular music record but more often than not was something completely new to us as college-age young adults. The exercise was meant to help us learn to *really* listen and appreciate any piece of music. It’s very much like what you’re doing here.
My absolute favorite Cranberries song!!! Your Anniversary has to be before March 31st. I became a member when you had 13000 members...on March 26. Maybe your anniversary is the 21st? Whatever it is, I have watched every video yall have put out and watch you every day, 3 times a day! 😆
This song, like so many Cranberries songs, is so well constructed. The arrangement of the background vocals is sheer perfection; haunting, pure soprano. Thanks for mentioning them. They add so much when so well done.
How has it been over 30 years since this came out? The first few opening seconds of this song takes me back to those days. I listened to this CD so many times back then! It's one of those albums that takes me back even after all this time. Damn, now I'm all nostalgic.
There is a live version of Zombie where you can appreciate the four of them onstage making live music, it may not be block as much s the official version.
Cranberries guitarist Noel Hogan wrote the music for this song before Dolores O'Riordan joined the band. Originally, it had lyrics written by the group's first singer, a bloke named Niall Quinn. When O'Riordan auditioned for the band, she had some ideas for the song, and after she was hired, she wrote her own set of lyrics, turning it into a song of regret based on a soldier she once fell in love with. Dolores O'Riordan wrote this song about her feelings following the breakup with her first boyfriend, the soldier who broke her heart. She said the song is about "the way I reacted to infatuation."
Another group you should listen to is The Sundays. I think you will love the female singer’s voice in that group as well. Two songs I recommend are “Here’s Where the Story Ends” and “Wild Horses.”
Yeah I agree it's such a weird criticism. These are some of my favorite songs, why would I want to watch a video bashing my favorite songs. That would literally turn off the entire demographic. The internet has some very mind-boggling complaints.
She really had an amazingly beautiful voice. How could anyone deny it. So glad you've expanded your musical horizons to appreciate all these different styles of music. I love that about you guys.
This song is haunting, but deep, sad and beautiful all at the same time. I'm still intrigued by this song.
Love your comment
Well said.
I just think of Delores and get sad
Abe, your comment was as beautiful as the song ❤️
Haunting is exactly what it is.
Her voice just captures you. It is so sad that she was taken from us at such a young age.
im doing my best to be good enough to see her in concert :)
@@stormy7722good luck with that.
@@stormy7722Ummm
Seeing Amber's reaction to this song perfectly shows the emotional impact of this song.
The way she closes her eyes and just feels the music and let’s it flow through her just shows you how to listen to this song
I’ll say it again. You two have the most genuine and real reaction channel I’ve seen. You’re not pandering and fake like so many others. Your openness and appreciation has grown your palate.
What he said
Agreed 💯
Yeah
Absolutely!!
Completely
This was the song that made me a Cranberries fan
Then again this is the song that made the cranberries "The Cranberries"
The first time I heard of the Cranberries they performed this song on Saturday Night Live. I was mesmerized buy this lovely woman and her beautiful voice and hooked.
This is one of those songs where the vocal melody moves me to tears. You can literally feel her heart breaking. Absolutely beautiful. And I’ll say it again. You guys are why rock will never die. Much love 💕
it's stunning..I am a guy you'd see and say...nah he isn't that type of guy....this song gets me every time
RIP Dolores, gone much too soon. You are loved and sadly missed.
Yes,sure😢❤❤
😢
Very much missed
Yes, I was bummed when I heard that.
Linger is the song that got me hooked
This Song is SO Stunningly GORGEOUS - I still remember Exactly where I was when the first time I heard it back in the 90's when I naively believed music could only EVOLVE to be better from that point on. Man was I Wrong.
Her voice in this song makes me tear up.

My son and I were in Ireland and visited her grave. We were listening to Linger as we approached the small cemetery, a time we won't forget....
Her voice is used like an instrument. I literally cried when I found out she passed away.
Im a 56 year old man.....me too ❤
Beautiful voice beautiful person, her passing was, is such a loss.
I can't imagine this lovely song would sound anywhere so good without her.
This song really connects with me on a spiritual level. What an amazing singer!
RIP Dolores.
"what goes into it" - - in this case, she also orchestrated this song at a time she was very young. LOVED HER VOICE. Massive loss to music. RIP Dear Delores.

"her voice was pure heaven"..... Still is, and always will be, as long as we can hear it....
The essence of melancholy, in the most precious sense of the word. Will always be very touching. One of my two favorite Cranberries songs.
Stunningly beautiful song, from the orchestral entry to the haunting vocals and this ultra smooth feel that the song has from end-to end, outstanding!
People can complain that you like every song but keep in mind that these are the same people who are requesting that you listen to the ALL TIME CLASSICS. The songs that have stood the test of time.
Rip never again have a voice like her so angelic heaven sure does sound beautiful now
I just love watching people exposing and enjoying themselves to new music. There’s something so innocent to it.
First time I heard this song was as I was driving to Atlanta for a TV audition (did that a lot). There was a great radio station that I always tuned into because they introduced me to bands like The Cranberries and Weezer. Love this song.
such a sad song sung so beautifully. It chokes me up everytime
Brings tears to my eyes. I am wrapped around her finger to this day. She was very vulnerable and needed someone to love and protect her from the cruelty of this world.
The intro to this song w the guitar and ethereal vocal is timeless.
This song is underrated.
Fo SHO!!!
I never thought about the vulnerability aspect of her voice, at least in this song. You're absolutely correct. Love it.
It was cool to see you both vibing in two different ways. Jay bobbing along to the drum beat and Amber swaying to the haunting vocals and strings. Just goes to show that music is both a shared and individual experience simultaneously. Everyone can get something different from it.
different singers and different musicans are unique in their own style and "Linger" to me is really special...
This is one of those songs that hits me in the heart & gives me goose bumps as it washes over me. I can listen to it over & over ❤
I was able to turn my mom into a Cranberries fan as I took her to their concert in the Finger Lakes area of New York back in the late 90s. She fell in love with their beautiful sound. It made me so happy to share my love of The Cranberries with her.

R.I.P. Dolores! Harriet Wheeler is an absolute dream!
Both great suggestions!
Didn’t Dolores pass away about a year ago?
The Sundays’ cover of Wild Horses is also amazing
I adore The Sundays and Cocteau Twins
A very haunting sound. I love the cranberries always
My second favourite band during the 90s ❤
First?
You guys could check out another Irish band, The Corrs, three sisters and a brother, with their song ‘Only When I Sleep’, they included some Celtic sounds in their music.
Rip this girl had one of the most amazing voices ever i mean its just genuine n there songs r genuine dreams zombie they r good together she had a tough life but she overcame it to make her one of the best band of the 90 s
You love the way she says the words because she had a very thick Limerick accent which is a very cool Irish accent to have :)
Her voice was so unique still being from Limerick
Freaking loved The Cranberries in the 90s! And my friends and I definitely had this song on repeat. I figured you’ve reacted to “Zombie,” which I love but another one of my favorites that I feel really highlights Dolores’ voice is “Ode To My Family.”
She used to get the school bus with us every morning. Always had her guitar with her. Listened to Cranberries initially because I knew her, but quickly realised she was a huge talent. “Ode to My Family” is awesome! My personal fave might be “I Can’t Be With You”
Same here!
This song always makes me cry.
Always loved this song but seeing the way you both reacted made me happy ...I see alot of these songs you play I've never cared for but seeing how you see these songs makes me appreciate them ..thank you you are truly a breath of fresh air in a sometimes stale world ...
I cry every time I hear this song...it is soo deep and heartfelt. She was a true treasure.
Linger my favorite Cranberries song 🎶 I played an instrumental Cranberries song as I walked down the isle at my wedding 20 years ago….
The most amazing voice, still gives me shivers. So sad she's gone 😢 Love your channel, first time I've really noticed the background vocals, absolutely stunning.
From some of the darkest message songs to the most ethereal love songs the Cranberries could do it all. Thank you for sharing this.
I hear theses female singers from the 90s and all I can think is were is Jewel!!! She amazing!!! Waiting impatiently !!!!

My eyes water up everytime I hear this song. Been that way since I first heard it in the mid 90's. Just a beautiful soulful song
Such a hauntingly beautiful song...my favorite of hers. RIP...💜💜💜
Such a great song from one of Ireland's finest! I'm so glad both of you love The Cranberries!
my sentiments exactly!
Its refreshing to see you reactions! I'm 64, these are the Songs of my Life. Thank you!!
Linger was The Cranberries second single, and first huge hit. Dreams was the first single, and it was rereleased as a single after the success of Dreams. Oh wow, I am hearing The Smiths vibe channeling in the instrumentals.
Tears. Goosebumps. All of it.
I love how you both speak on each and every layer of a song. Realistic reactions, unlike some other channels I've seen. Thanks.
Love the reaction.
Dude, the way you just closed your eyes and just... Felt the music.
Listen to all that Irish vocal badassery. Her talent was awesome! This was one of my favorite songs back in the day.😊
In a word: ethereal. Such a beautifully sung and realized song - Dolores is in a league all by herself; poignant. Miss her. Nice job/choice guys.
Another classic from the 90s! The Cranberries were phenomenal in the 90s! Great band!
In the beginning of this song her voice blended with the music so beautifully. I hardly noticed she was there at first. So lovely. Her voice gets stronger and stronger throughout the song just bringing you along with her with her emotion.
Glad you stood up to the critics. RIP Dolores, exactly what I needed to hear on St. Patrick's day. Ode to my family and Zombie deserve a listen.
One of my all time favorite songs. I used to have this tape in my car. 😅 That's how old I am.

was going to suggest the same, Florence and the Machine 'wish that you were here' has a similar ethereal feel to this song and a deep lyrical meaning.
Florence is so good. Dark Days Are Over would be a good one.
@@lkajiess It's "Dog days are over", but yes :)
@@ClickToPreview Haha, correct. I even knew that. Brain fart.
"Siren" is not the word. "Soulful" could be.
Jay's appreciation is growing... and it's showing!
This is the centerpiece of their brilliant first album. My favorite of theirs is this album's closing song, "Put Me Down."
Ditto! I’ve recently helped my in-laws through end of life! Over the last year I’ve been here every night for a little peace. Peace!
Music can speak to your soul and make you see things in a different way.
Dolores' voice is the only one thar can give me goosebumps all the way to my cheeks. Amazing. She is definitely missed ❤😢

This song, like so many Cranberries songs, is so well constructed. The arrangement of the background vocals is sheer perfection; haunting, pure soprano. Thanks for mentioning them. They add so much when so well done.
Their songs sound like slow breathing, the musical expansion and contraction
How has it been over 30 years since this came out? The first few opening seconds of this song takes me back to those days. I listened to this CD so many times back then! It's one of those albums that takes me back even after all this time. Damn, now I'm all nostalgic.

I adore The Sundays!!!
Yes! Brilliant!
"Summertime" was my introduction to them.
Another Flavour!
Yeeeessssss! SUCH an underrated band! Harriet Wheeler is a gem.
I never realized the words were so sad. O'Riordan's voice is beautiful. So great hearing both of your appreciation for many artists. God bless you!
You may not always like every song but I agree but at least you let us know it is not your cup of tea but you respect what they have to put into it .
Yeah I agree it's such a weird criticism. These are some of my favorite songs, why would I want to watch a video bashing my favorite songs. That would literally turn off the entire demographic. The internet has some very mind-boggling complaints.
I love how he grooves to the beat and drum line and she feels the background groove vocal. Perfect unixon.
RIP Dolores. We're still listening. Other great cranberries suggestions: Ode to my family, When you're Gone, Promises, Salvation, Star.
I Just Shot John Lennon, that one might hit them hard too.
She really had an amazingly beautiful voice. How could anyone deny it. So glad you've expanded your musical horizons to appreciate all these different styles of music. I love that about you guys.
