This was played at Woodstock Festival in Poland and the song is about the Warsaw (capital of Poland) Uprising in 1944. EVERYONE knows this song here in Poland and that's why the WARSZAWO WALCZ (WARSAW FIGHT) was sung so loudly by the crowd. Sabaton concerts in Poland are always crazy.

I’ve read Uprising ‘44 by Norman Davies about the Polish Home Army uprising (the author was careful to differentiate this from the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising by the native Jewish population).
That was one of the saddest events of WW2 that is mostly ignored. The Home Army expected the Soviet Red Army to intervene and help them overthrow the Nazis, who were in retreat.
Stalin decided to hold his Army back and let the poles and Germans kill each other and invade the city after the uprising was crushed. They then arrest the Polish underground under suspicion of collaborating with the Nazis (since they were still alive, they must have been in cahoots with them)
Even Polish communists were arrested for the same reason. Stalin was nothing if not paranoid.
Sorry for the rant, but WW2 is something I’m really into and the biased perspective about what the Allies resorted to win is something that isn’t focused on enough. The Axis were definitely evil, but the Allies weren’t exactly innocent of commiting atrocities or enabling atrocities.

    Joakim Brodén (singer).
    - Lead vocals, keyboards, guitars when needed, composing, lyrics, "music director" of the band. Other instruments are: Hammond organ, church organ, bass guitar.
Joakim is the only original Sabaton member left along with Pär Sundström (bass, band manager). Joakim and Pär are the only 2 members to ever write lyrics for Sabaton.
He joined Sabaton (the name was not Sabaton yet) as a keyboard/organ player and a songwriter in 1999, they had no singer or original songs before that.
So, as all the songs were his, he ended up singing to demonstrate to the others how the songs should sound. He was supposed to sing only "until they found a singer", since Joakim had NO experience or interest in being a singer. But he takes putting on agood show VERY seriously!
A few years later (around 2004), when they were making their first proper album, the other band members told him that "We hired another keyboardist and you are now our frontman /singer". He was reportedly both surprised and a bit pissed off, but agreed to do it. And the rest is epic history! He is really great frontman and I really like his singing too, it suits their music. And cosidering he writes most of it, it should fit him!

Joakim Broden is a Swedish-Chech musician and songwriter who is the lead vocalist, keyboardist, and occasional third guitarist of Sabaton. He and bassist Par Sundstrom formed the band in 1999.

YES! This is one of their greatest performances, they're truly an epic live band. Add to that, the song is about the Warsaw Uprising in WW2 and they're playing to a Polish crowd at a rock festival. They know how to reach their audience and the audience wants to be reached, so the result is epic. This is an older lineup but that doesn't matter. What matters is they took a song that from someone else would merely be good, but they made it truly great. They are known for stage sets and they like pyro, but like you said they use it for accent, and they can back it up. They don't need it. He also doesn't need to call out the crowd, because this song is about them and Poland through history has taken their lumps. Give them a song that praises them and they're good to go. Great reaction too!( Joakim admits he's a limited vocalist but he knows how to use it. He joined the band as a keyboardist and they drafted him for vocals)

I think the best part of Sabaton is that they genuinely care so much about their fans

Sabaton are Saints in Poland since they performed 40:1. The Crowd loves them, and if you watch the Woodstock footage of 40:1 or any song, the crowd is nuts! its so awesome!

I’ve always heard Joakim pronounce his name like you-a-keem.
The two guitarists and the drummer at this show were all less than a year into their tenure with Sabaton. The drummer is Robban Back, and he was in the band less than two years. Snowy Shaw briefly filled in before Hannes van Dahl permanently took over. The guitarist playing the Strat is Thobbe Englund, and he left in 2016 and was replaced by Tommy Johansson. Chris Rorland, the guitarist playing the Caparison, is still in the band.

Dave, I am going to request that you check out this show in particular, it is Sabaton's 20th anniversary, what is interesting is they brought back their former members to perform together on BOTH stages: ruclips.net/video/9dfHBK0rMOM/видео.html SABATON - Great War (Live from the 20th Anniversary Show at Wacken 2019) "For the greater part of the Wacken concert, we commandeered the festival’s two main stages, the side-by-side-and-connected Faster and Harder Stages, becoming the first artist in Wacken’s 30-year history to utilize both stages simultaneously in this way. During this show we were joined by the Great War choir, a bunch of previous Sabaton members as well as the internationally acclaimed GRAMMY-nominated virtuoso cellist Tina Guo for the encore."

You can imagine how the polish crowd reacts to a song about the Warsaw uprising. Most of them don't speak english, but they know the song by heart!

    • @s0k4lsk1
      @s0k4lsk1 2 года назад +2

It amuses me that you think "most" of polish people in the audience don't speak english :) Assuming that probably 90% of the crowd is well below 40 years of age the majority speaks english, maybe not always fluent, but enough to sing along and communicate :)
Anyway superb performance by a great band. Cant wait to see them live this year :)

I only got into Sabaton recently because of the reaction channels. And I found that I couldn't let a tour sneak past so I'm going seeing them live next year. Luck was on my side because it's a pandemic-postponed show. Really looking forward to it.

You're right, pyro is completely unnecessary for this song, as long as it's played in Poland 😀. I am a Pole, so let me explain. Sabaton sings a song about the Warsaw Uprising. We Poles are crazy about the Warsaw Uprising. It was the largest uprising during the entire 2WW, then about 200,000 people died. It could have been won and the war ended, but unfortunately no one helped us (alles turned away). So after 2 months of fights we lost and the Germans in revenge destroyed all of Warsaw to the ground, killing all the civilians they met. Warsaw was a dead city after that and we had to build it from scratch. You can see it there after Uprising: ruclips.net/video/zr5uGi7mil4/видео.html
Poland lost the largest percentage of people from all countries during 2WW. That is why we remember it until today. For over 70 years, on each anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising on August 1, all of Poland stops for 1 minute. Just stops. The sirens will sound like during the uprising and everyone stops, people, cars ... In tribute to the people who fought in this uprising. You can see it here if you are curious: ruclips.net/video/BGb6f0xw3f8/видео.html
We are crazy about this uprising, and since everyone disregarded it while it lasted, we have great respect for those who speak about it. Like Sabaton. They are Gods in Poland and Uprising is almost the second hymn. Therefore, no pyro or any tricks are required, it is enough just to sing it ...

By the way - Sabaton will be support before Babymetal on a tour they are planning together next year 😍They will be at Poland so I plan to see them 😊 Babymetal will concert USA in 2023 too, so don't miss it . Although I don't know if I will like their new album, it's probably not the same as it used to be ... But we will see 😊

Warszawo Walcz (Warsaw Fight) is in the Vocative Case, which means he’s giving the City itself a living, human, identity. Think of him speaking to the VERY SOUL of the city.
