I have watched this several times and am enamored with the lines and small palette. It's a testiment to keeping things simple, focusing on technique, not so much what a stunner and price it may fetch. This kind of painting, for me, is one of comfort to self. So glad it's still on YT. Thank you, Mr. Sheeler, for your generous gifts to new watercolorists such as myself.
Years ago I had the pleasure of watching a dear friend and extraordinary watercolor artist paint and I was absolutely in awe of the living, blooming pigments and the loose way of creating such a finite image in time. Watching you brings back that feeling. I think she would have enjoyed your work immensely. She recently passed after more than 80 years of painting and living the fullest and most beautiful moments. Thank you for giving me a glimpse into your creative journeys and for reminding me of the journeys of my dear Betty Guy.
Absolutely love this one.....I could watch you all day! I am convinced there is no better way to learn than watching someone paint. Your depth of shadow and use of light and shade are remarkable. And all instructions are perfect...thank you am learning so much! 😊
This is terrific Peter, placing the colors you are applying in this demo is very kind of you making it easier to follow you steps. It is very noble of you to show us your technics Thank you for your demonstrations. I keep practicing, and it is a joy to watch you.
You're my new favorite artist on youtube! WOW! Did you build model trains or ships over the years, or when you were younger? I am blown away by your minimalistic style. Why the little papers with the paint on them? I've enjoyed watching several of your videos the last 2 days. You keep it so simple, something that still eludes me after 2 years of painting. Thank you for posting your work. Exquisitely simple. Wow... Fanna Turano Denver, CO
How can anyone "thumbs down" this video? Jealous maybe? This is wonderful! Thank you so much, Peter. It is like watching magic happen. I learn so much from your videos.
Hi. I'm glad you showed how you did the shadows. I understand the importance of them to a painting but often have difficulty placing them and the intensity needed for a good painting. Thanks.
Omg I just did my first water color and ink. So excited. Thought I messed it up stepped away and was happy not as bad as I thought. Have my sakura and speedball 😀😀😀 thank you I find I like the ink for the branches and try to do them like you. Now, all I need are half oand which I think for this technique would be better. Beautiful thank you
Beautiful, Peter! Thank you for sharing. I always forget that the tree shadows also go up over the little snow banks, and not just on the flat surfaces.
I had a dream last night that you took your channel down:-( I just started painting and love your work! I am learning so much from you Peter! So my dream turned into a nightmare because I am painting as fast as I can, as many paintings a day so I can learn to paint well. Well, I actually take my time, but I am painting as many as I can get in, in a day! You break things down so that they are manageable. I actually have paintings that I like when I am done:-) So Thank you Peter, ( and please don't ever pull your site down) lol Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with those of us that don't have any:-)
I like what you say because I try every night to discover the misteries of the way he paints, I copy step by step and doing soy I learn a lot. Eventhow mine is not exactly as Peter's one I learn about colours, use of water, use of paintbrush, and shadows and perspective. Then I try my own creations but I get in lots of problems because there is so much to learn. Anyway I find it nice.
This is absolutely beautiful, took my breath away, thank you so much for taking the time to share this fantastic work and your incredible talent, Warm Regards, Fiona 😊
Your video's are brilliant, you've helped me a tone in water colour!!! I'm an acrylic artist but wanted to learn water colour. Thank you peter :-) hugs from UK.
Loved it. It was good and then for me it was the rocks about 14mins in it really did something. That's so often what makes yt art great that bit of magic happens before your eyes and that's the bit you need to figure out how it was and reproduce it. Thanks Peter!
+Big C . Yes it's the pthalo. The bristles were originally pure white synthetic. Most of my brushes are cheaper brands due to the way I abuse them. I now mostly paint watercolor on canvas which is like painting on sandpaper. Very hard on brushes.
This is amazing! I absolutely love your tutorials. Please please please do an online course...oh and if you ever use watercolour pencils would love to see a watercolour pencil tutorial!
Hi, I am getting back into watercolor and my next painting will be a snow scene. I am grateful you have shown us how to deal with winter scenes. One thing though, is I sometimes have to hit pause in order to read the words, as I don't want to miss anything. Hard for me to watch the painting technique and color mixing and read the text at the same time. But that's okay because like I said, I can always hit pause on the video. Thanks for the tutorials.
Thanks Peter, for the complete version. One thing I really love about your channel is that you are so interactive. We could ask queries and learn from you. I fear you may get too popular and you might not respond ;) What camera gear and video editing software are you using?
+Dheeraj Kattula . Hi Dheeraj. I enjoy the interaction as well and hope I can always answer question. My video gear is a small plywood drawing surface with extension arm to hold my Galaxy Note 2 phone and just natural light. The entire setup fits in my lap which is what I want. Very mobile. I use the basic Windows Movie Maker which is free with any Windows operating system.
Very lovely and inspiring, Peter. Ypu mention using a Strathmore 500 series sketchbook. Could you tell me more about the quality of the paper. This may be helpful to me and many viewers who depend on German products. With many thanks in advance.
..hi Peter Sheeler, can you tell me please witch Colour is Fuchsia, you say about it that is very good together with snow. I can not find this color on google, no in W &N, no in Holbein etc. Thanks for your help, and sorry my english, I life in Switzerland. Bruno Adank
Peter, your painting is brilliantly perfect just the way you created it! I love ink and watercolor myself and enjoy it very much when I’m lucky enough to find an artist using the technique, especially when it is as wonderful as your artworks! Thank you so much for sharing your talent, skills and your precious time to bring us such wonderful creations and videos filled with invaluable lessons at every stroke of your brush. Many thanks and gratitude with all my heart! 😊 🎨 🖌 👩🎨 🖼
great job!. I tried to paint watching your video. The result is not like yours, but it looks good !. You can see my paintings on my facebook page D'ArteVale. Thanks for your videos ,they help me!

That's so nice to hear Jelka. Thank you. Peter
These colors are beautiful. It looks like winter, but gives a warm feeling, too.
+Pam H . Thank you Pam. I ted to be a warm, earthy tone painter. Even with winter scenes.
Your tutorials are incredible!! Such subtlety and simplicity to achieve realism...thanks for all your uploads!

Great comments and observations Frances. I do the videos small so they're quick and easy to follow. Thanks :)
Absolutely amazing Peter! The colour shades you bring out are so REAL and so pleasing ! They come from your heart rather than from your hand !
How can anyone "thumbs down" this video? Jealous maybe? This is wonderful! Thank you so much, Peter. It is like watching magic happen. I learn so much from your videos.
Great comments and observation. Thanks :)
one minute it's a blank sheet of paper then it comes alive!!!..... fabulous... thanks for sharing...
Nice comment Pammy. Thank you :)
our attention to details and illustrate this so clearly is so impressive..thank you
Thank you very much. So glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Hi. I'm glad you showed how you did the shadows. I understand the importance of them to a painting but often have difficulty placing them and the intensity needed for a good painting. Thanks.
+Graham Heywood . Thank you Graham! You're right about their importance. I will often overemphasize shadows to add impact.

+A Murphy . Always appreciated. Thanks. Peter
it actually moved me
Thank you very much. Greatly appreciated :)
très bien on distingue le mélange des pigments et ça aide vraiment merci
Merci beaucoup. Peter
Peter - what brush are you using ? It does not look like a watercolor brush.....! Love your videos
Thank you again Judy. It is not a waterbrush. It's an inexpensive 1/2 inch watercolor brush by Polar Flo. Peter
+Peter Sheeler thanks!
Very lovely and inspiring, Peter. Ypu mention using a Strathmore 500 series sketchbook. Could you tell me more about the quality of the paper. This may be helpful to me and many viewers who depend on German products. With many thanks in advance.
Thanks Liliane. It's 100% cotton rag. Top quality. I do mention this in the write-ups of all the newer videos
Thank you for the details. Indeed, I noticed later that there is a description in some tutorials.
genial todo un ejemplo de trabajo
Muchas gracias :)
Love love this painting... So Peter ... You like using a Rollar bAll pen rather than a micron pen ?
+Jac Cruick . Thank you! I'm too hard on the felt tips of micron pens.
v.nice tutorial..I loved it.thx.
Very kind words. Greatly appreciated. Peter :)
Thanks so much!
You are most welcome Naomi :) Thank you, Peter
Your paintings are beautiful. Do you have any videos to help someone like me who is just beginning?
Thank you. Every video helps when first starting ;)
Hi again! When would you use a water brush as opposed to a wet on wet technique...when painting a sky, for example?
Thank you, Peter
Normally, I only use a water but on location.
Thanks for your time !
I hope to replicate your technique, but it will be difficult for me;-)
bye
Arnaldo
+Arnaldo Prosperi . It just takes time Armando. Try doing small studies rather than a whole painting. A much better way to practice a technique.
+Peter Sheeler Thanks for the great advice!
I purchased a block of watercolor paper cotton mix, just to follow your tutorial!
Bye
Arnaldo
..hi Peter Sheeler, can you tell me please witch Colour is Fuchsia, you say about it that is very good together with snow. I can not find this color on google, no in W &N, no in Holbein etc. Thanks for your help, and sorry my english, I life in Switzerland. Bruno Adank
Hi Bruno. The colour is from Da-vinci. When it is empty I will be changing to Winsor Newton Quinacridone Magenta. It is a very close match.
..ok, thank you so much, I will buy it.....is realy a good combination with blue.... all the best Bruno
❤️it
Why don't you use a rigger or liner brush for the thin branches?
Because this is a line and wash. Meaning pen and watercolour.
where do you get this great music?
+Robert Williams . The music is from purple planet.com
i am chinese, you are so wonderfui!
Very kind words. Greatly appreciated. Peter :)
you know, china can‘t use facebook,goole......so,I must watch your videoes by VPN
I love your paintings, but my only problem is, and it's a small one, but some of the shadows don't make much since. Other than that, well done.
Thank you Austin.
Do you conduct classes on location?
Sorry Nancy. Just these videos
great job!. I tried to paint watching your video. The result is not like yours, but it looks good !. You can see my paintings on my facebook page D'ArteVale. Thanks for your videos ,they help me!
Nice work Valentina. Peter

Lol...😂... You mean there's actually a human being on the other end of this video?
Yes. And he's slow to reply ;)
