I was excited for you to include your recent purchase of the PSA 6.5 orange Charlotte O's Ripken. Oh well, I guess I'll hold my breath until next week.
I collected MJs in the 90s, but have never seen most of these MJ inserts. It just shows how rare some of these MJ cards are. What a gorgeous collection!!!
I'm mostly into baseball,so I stay far away from Panini, especially now that they lost the MLBPA license and now have to stick to prospects and retired players. But I did used to like Diamond Kings because it was a cheapish way to chase legendary relics. And I always like Stars and Stripes because you get some great players first-ever auto cards in that. And although it was near impossible to get close to value back from it, Donruss Baseball was always a fun box to open.
if you ask me, panini is officialy cashgrab and yeah some card designs are pretty good, but the love for their product and the relationship to their customers is way worse than that from companies of the 90´s when i remember the different eventcards you can get in the cheaper products, for meeting your idol, create your own card, becket was the standalone source to get a good overview and mostly prices....miss that times
Josh Dawson is the lucky owner of those, I've seen him on a RUclips Jordan channel showing all these. He was just like all of us who collected cards back in the 90s but he was smart and bought all the rare ones. Even the crazy expensive ones you see now we're only bought for a couple hundred bucks back then by him. I think he said almost all of his expensive Jordans were bought over 25 years ago when they were very inexpensive
Absolutely wild to carry a collection like this around with him at a show!! I guess if you're a big time dealer you get used to carrying millions around with you from one show to the next, but I'd imagine just this case is worth more than the majority of dealer booths at any given show.
Very cool idea for a High Rollers video. MJ was the obvious choice to do this type of video but I would also like to see similar videos for Kobe, Lebron, Tom Brady, and whatever baseball players that would make interesting videos lime Mickey Mantle, and Mike Trout Idk how possible that would be though without people with amazing collections reaching out
The crazy thing is if he’s been collecting for a while, 10-15 years ago you could’ve gotten this whole collection for the price of the highest card. Kind of making that up but it’s not far off. Oh to have that time machine
Honestly, best move collecting wise is to go to that day Topps dumped thousands of boxes of 52 Topps in the ocean. Grab a pallet or 20. I'm sure if you showed up and slipped some guy a $20 (make sure to have appropriate currency before time travelling!!!) he would "look the other way" as he laughed about the moron buying junk. But on a personal level, I would go back to tell my younger self to send in cards to that new company, PSA. I definitely used to have cards that were in, to my eye, perfect condition that are worth thousands and even tens of thousands. I also one time grabbed two packs out of a cart full of clearance packs at Wal-Mart. There had to be at least 200 packs in there, and every single one was either 2018 Topps Series 2 or 2018 Topps Update. I would like to fix that if I could.
That’s one of the craziest collections I’ve ever seen. Although for some reason I was a little disappointed that he didn’t have a Star XRC in the collection. Hahaha Love the idea for this video.
Jesus the amount of hate on these cards and video is wild. Imagine saying in 1935 “Don’t get why Honus Wagner cards are so expensive because there is a limit print run and it’s not even his rookie” The 90s were the last and only time card companies were doing anything new and innovative unlike today’s money grabs. Also some of those inserts are likely true 1/1s vs how many fleer rookies? Amazing video, more of these would be great if you run into the opportunity to do more!
If I could have 3 out of that collection, I'd take the Gem 10 RC, the 2007 UD Exclusives Patch/Auto, and the Flair Hot Shots die-cut. Wouldn't mind owning the Dunk 'n' Go Nuts or the Big Cat on Court either. Amazing collection. I had to remind myself this wasn't a normal High Rollers, but one guy's collection.
I’m assuming he was walking around with a security guard? Were there more private security guards at the National this year? I don’t think any YT channels covered this. At least the ones I watch
Hey card daddy. Have you ever thought of doing a highest non-sports card list? Excluding Pokémon - MTG - ETC. that would be a good watch. Looking forward to your next dealer story 👍
Speculating sale prices today versus comps from two or three years ago has me scratching my head. Given how inflated everything was back then, I think it would be super interesting to see a comparison. Like a BSG 8.5 sale in 2021 would probably out-sell a PSA 9 (or 10) now, 😂
90's Jordan inserts being so expensive. I don't really understand. I get some of the 80's stuff (sorta) commanding the price of a house, but this other stuff?
@@willkramer5787 the idea that Skybox in 1998 could print up anything that's held those prices is... well I don't get it. I understand your point, my logical brain just can't though.
This is a really fun video and maybe, if a Brady or LeBron or Mahomes (etc) wanted to share their collections with you, you could do a similar video again! One comment about the cards themselves (or I guess the slabs)...almost all (if not all) of these slabs had scuffing on the front from those TERRIBLE perfect fit PSA sleeves. PSA and card collectors need to stop using these. They leave weird scuffs on slabs. I know we are buying the card and not the slab but when you have a 200K card and you pay a premium to get it graded, few things are as annoying as PSA scuffing up the case.
I kick myself when I see these types of collections. I was around in 1997. I could have bought cards like this. But instead, I was collecting Kerry Wood and Jose Cruz Jr.
Its a small market made up of a few insanely rich people. So rich that 50k doesn't impact them in any way. You could look through the lists of billionaires and probably make some good guesses as to who might be collecting. Mark Cuban?
Glad the scoring kings from fleer, and silky smooth & golden touches from skybox didn't show up here, would have hurt. Sold them raw 30 years ago as a kid when the products were new. And I wasnt a Jordan fan
Yes it is an insane collection… and it is #2… I wasn’t bashing his collection I was simply pointing out that it’s missing 1 of the key cards in high grade.
I really don't get why this guy would walk around a convention with these cards... he's obviously not trying to sell them, so what's the purpose? Seems like it's just for the clout, but I'd be worried about everyone knowing who the guy with a million dollars worth of Jordan cards is...
With a minor league game used signed bat, a few minor league cards signed and at least half a dozen baseballs signed by him (and others on the team) I perhaps have the greatest Hector Vargas collection in the world. He may have never made it in baseball, but he was a good guy, at least in the eyes of a young kid going to Albany-Colonie Yankee games.
