The dutch angle combined with a tracking shot in "Fearing and Loathing in Las Vegas" Depp doesn't realize Benicio Del Toro has left the bar. The shot tracks past where Del Toro was and shows us Depp's expression at the same time. Great stuff. @ 3:08 (if you're interested) ruclips.net/video/uOmtVFQ3WF8/видео.html
I love this channel. As a total beginner at filmmaking I just never knew there was so much involved when crafting shots. I've been absorbing so much from this channel that when I watch any movie or television show that i'm looking at framing, angles trying to figure out why a scene was done a certain way and why I as a beginner probably wouldn't have shot it this way...lol. Thanks so much for this.
I tend to forget about the Dutch angel. Now that this video is firmly planted in my brain housing group, I don't believe I'll forget for my next short film.
Just discovered this channel and I'm totally hooked. I love seeing this kind of detailed analysis. There's so much to learn and just this one video is rich with instruction.
I'm using Dutch angles in my film currently, a horror/noir Batman movie. The moment of the tilt have been planned since the begining but I do them all in post so that I can get the angle perfect and keyframe the tilt very slowly. There is a steadicam shot that tilts over the course of 10 seconds and it's so subtle you don't even notice the change.
@Bandi Coot yes its perfect! I planned alot of long takes and tracking/gimbal shots, and having the tilt on set would've been one more thing to get right on set, and something that's hard to backtrack on if I did not like it. I'm able to get the perfect tilt, slow and smooth, no way could we have done it that good on set. Just have to remember to shoot a little wider than normal to give yourself some frame space to work with.
I have learned so many things about making film... Thank you so much for giving wonderful detailse about the camera shots, angles, movements and storyboard etc... Really i like all of your videos... Those videos are helping us to learn about cinematic techniques very much... you are our best teacher... thanks a lot for teaching us....
This is the only channel that I don't mind how it's a whole channel made to be an advertisement for their software. But honestly if these videos are any indication the software is most likely amazing lol!
Just coming to this video now for the first time and I'm really glad you guys included the movie Thor when talking about "dutch overdose." I noticed that just watching the movie casually they just kept tilting the camera for seemingly no reason
There is a striking amount of Dutch angle shots in the movie Stay. Not surprisingly, as this is a dream-like film. This movie was not mentioned in the video, although it is so obvious. In many scenes, it also helps to keep two characters in one picture in a small enclosed space (eg.: in a little room). I think this movie is a masterpiece, from the script to the camera settings to the transitions between scenes. Maybe it deserves a separate film analysis.
Yes! Slumdog Millionaire has some great angles (and cinematography in general). We featured it in the intro of this video. but could make entire video breaking down a scene.
I remember ths technique paired with visual text of comicbook sound effects of the campy 60's batman tv series, but it didn't evoke feelings of unsettling or things gone wrong, it just seemed zany slapstick antics because it looked like even more intentionally harmless fake fighting like on wrestling, but i suppose on the script it is technically apt if its teeth breaking kicks to the face, its the actors and their performance styles that changed the film industry wide policy on that particular network tv show.
Great video! Thanks a lot! Can anyone recommend to me a book that will explain how to choose all those "lenses/angels/depth of field" that I need to choose for scene tasks? Any answers might be helpfull! Thanks :)
I DON'T remember a lot of dutch angle scenes, but I can say that the dutch angles in slumdog millionaire were just overused. I don't like when they were used almost in every scene of the movie. It looked..... cheap ! And congrats for 100k subs in advance !!
I'm new to this, so apologies if this is a dumb question, but the shot at 3:12 is labeled as a wide shot... I thought wide shots had to contain the entire person/object. so wouldn't that be considered a medium shot then?
There is some really cool Dutch angle camera work in season 3 of Netflix's Daredevil when we see the evil awaken in the villain Bullseye. They rolled the camera into and out of the Dutch angle to symbolize the transition that's going on inside the character. I think that scene was shot and edited beautifully.
While I love this angle and it's use to amplify that something is not right in the story line, watching a video full of Dutch angles had a bad effect on me personally. When I looked away from the screen I felt like I was going to fall and got nauseous. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?
Great content for budding filmmakers. I also have prepared a small 3-minute short film recently, would love to know what you people think about it. Thank you❤
What's your favorite dutch angle shot? 🧐

Amazing technique
It is! Dutch angles are rooted in German Expressionism of the 1920's. An oldie but goodie.
Yeah really amazing..

Thank you, Rodrigo! How often do you use Dutch Angles?
Thanks for the posting. You get a new fan now. 😘
Really helpful... thanks
Great knowledge
Battlefield Earth is obviously the best use of dutch angle ever....so use that to study film making
“Battlefield Earth” wasted a lot of Dutch Angles.
There's plenty of great Dutch Angles in Battlefield Earth. They signify that something's seriously wrong with the film!
I always looked forward to the villians' hide out in the old batman series. As far as im concerned, its should be called the joker angle.
mission accomplished ^^
When the question arise about the Dutch angle the movie came in my " slamdog millionaires" have a very much Dominance on it.
Yes! Slumdog Millionaire has some great angles (and cinematography in general). We featured it in the intro of this video. but could make entire video breaking down a scene.
Slumdog used this technique super well, any other films come to mind?
Yes off course inception ,One of the finest example of Dutch angle.
Danny Boyle, the dutch master
Battlefield earth left chat
Some would say Battlefield Earth may have killed Travolta's career.... But we LOVE that movie. XD
Yep, even the dutch angle couldn't save Battlefield Earth. 😂
Bahaha...
@@StudioBinder Battlefield Earth killed the Dutch Angle
That was perfect
I am drawing this right now

Thanks Vinay! Spread the word!
@@StudioBinder sure sir and its worth of sharing...
12 Monkeys and Mission Impossible are the 2 movies that made me love the dutch angle (plus they were made at the same decade)
2:24, i like the ost from mission 6
Thanks
Now I wanna watch MI again!
Red light. Green light. Boom!
Question : is Studio Binder a screenwriting software as well ? If not, how do we import our script if it is some other extension ?
A+
De Palma. King if the Dutch angle. Body Double, Carrie.
nice use of Fallout music
New Jack City and Do the right thing ,had a lot of Dutch angles

Brian de Palma is the king of making these type of scenes.
When thinking of examples of the dutch angle I immediately think of the old 1960s Batman series.
I'm new to this, so apologies if this is a dumb question, but the shot at 3:12 is labeled as a wide shot... I thought wide shots had to contain the entire person/object. so wouldn't that be considered a medium shot then?

What's the Jhonny's Deep movie?
Could relate what was the all movies you usedto gave examples? Sorry my bad english
Tell me how to mention exactly which angle n shot will be mention in script
*_I like missionary and doggy style angles, they're the best😂😂😂😂_*
Is there any software which can be easily set dailouge n voice over ,cut , transition, angle, shot, everything with automatic format

That's a great one. Daredevil has some pretty awesome cinematography in general. And that long take fight scene is one of the best.
We'll need to check it out. Any other films or shows that used the dutch angle well?
Can anybody tell me what apps he use to create that storyboard?
My fav Dutch angle. Conversation between Hans Landa and hammersmark. Right b4 he killed her
Step one: consider not doing a dutch angle.
Amen
Tom J. McCoy no
Yes. It bothers me when movies use dutch angles over and over and over again. Ex: Thor. Its in like every scene and every other shot. It's not needed
I hate it moreso in photos.People with smartphones tilt their phone and I eyeroll everytime.
It's just like shaky cam. On the hands of a good filmmaker, it's great tool, but on the wrong hands, it can be overused and destroyed.
only reaslized this was an ad until the end lol
Idk why nobody ever mentions Natural Born Killers when talking about Dutch angles almost every scene in that movie uses Dutch angles very very well
please im begging you... release the David Fincher video

How do people use real photos for their shot list or storyboard when the film is not yet out? 🤔
@2:08, the notes under KIEV is an action not a character dialogue so it looks like a screenwriting blip to me - just saying :)
im aware of tilt camera just dont know the name, now i know...
Who's here after watching MI Dead Reckoning?

Dutch angles in my music video

Dutch angles are more common in anime.

Probably either "Casino" or "Goodfellas"

My favorite dutch angle shot is from Stranger Things 3 Episode 4 when Tom was shouting at Nancy and Jonathan
If the dutch angle was introduced by German expressionist, then why is it called dutch angle and not the German angle?
Because Americans are a little, well shall we say ignorant? They hear Deutsch and translate it to Dutch.
the words in the video is 4K but the films video is at 480p
