I've been watching these series of videos for a week now. And it's getting a bit difficult (for me). But I'm determined to proceed upto I will learn how to speak and understand basic, easy conversation. I love the way you teach. The repetition helps a lot. I plan to finish watching all your videos before Ramadan. Hope so, I can. Giving thumbs up and subscribing to your channel is the least I can do to say.... thank you! Thanks to both of you. Watching from Qatar.

Thank you Reyna! We're happy to have you join us from Qatar, greetings from Mexico! Perhaps this part of the course is a little bit more difficult because there are many new grammar concepts, but we hope you'll keep going! I think you'll find it gets easier again a bit later on. Remember that you don't have to be able to correctly answer all the questions in the Review Game videos. As long as you understand 90+% of what is happening in the lesson videos, I think you'll make good progress. 😊 Happy learning!

Hi Beth, thanks for the great and helpful content. May I ask what dialect/accent is your Hebrew? I have noticed online that many Israeli Hebrew channels pronounced the "r" sound with a uvular trill, more like the French "r" sound, but you use a alveolar trill, like the Spanish "r" sound. I have also noticed that your "t" sounds are un-aspirated, like the Spanish "t" sound, but most Israelis would use a aspirated "t", like the English "t." I have also noticed that your "Ayin" vowels sound different than the "Aleph" vowels. Is that intentional? I have heard that the pharyngeal "Ayin" (like the Arabic Ayin) is only used in certain communities, like Yemenite Jews. It would be helpful if you can help me with these pronunciation questions. Thanks so much!

Hi Richard, I'm using a sort variation of Modern Hebrew with some Sephardic features (such as the alveolar flap resh and pharyngeal ayin and het, as best I can). Most Modern Hebrew speakers do use a uvular resh, but many recordings of the Hebrew Bible use an alveolar resh. I'm following the example of the Voice of the Bible recording by Dan Kaner, and have chosen these pronunciations for pedagogical reasons. I'll have to go back and listen to whether he usually aspirates t, that's a good question. As for the vowels with ayin, I'm not trying to pronounce them differently, but a pharyngeal consonant (because it's so far back in the throat) will automatically color the vowels around it, and it's hard to keep that from happening. So you are right that my pronunciation is rather different than most Modern Hebrew speakers, but I've done that on purpose since we're teaching Biblical Hebrew. Hope that helps!

Question: is זה always used in a possessive phrase? I notice you say זה עיני but אמרת ״עין נקווה״.

Hello and welcome! Zeh (זֶה) is the masculine singular demonstrative pronoun "this". It is used in many phrases, not just phrases that include possessives. Hi! Did you start at the beginning with Lesson 1? This course was designed to be watched in order. It may feel a little strange at first (listening to a new language), but, if you stick with it, you will gradually being to gain comprehension. And, after the alphabet is taught, you will see the spoken word appear as text on the screen.
