Being a very novice collector, I had a very biased opinion about grafting cacti. Now, after watching this, my perspective is completely altered, and grafting cacti in this manner makes complete sense
Excellent video- he is a true master artist. Loved seeing him repot the cactus into a stunning pot for the show! I am really enjoying your videos, very much a learning experience for me as a beginning cacti enthusiasist
I enjoyed seeing how Mr PP displays his plants in an aesthetic way, and how he uses so many cool pots. It adds so much to the overall visual impact. Definitely inspired to step my pot game up!
HUNTER, your video of you visiting the Cactus and Succulent show at the L.A arboretum was the catalyst for me pivoting towards tougher plants from softer succulents. Went from echeverias and kalanchoes to now more cacti, euphorbia, agave, and aloes. From softer babied plants to getting pricked by these treacherous bad boys.
Tony, nice garden and collection is awesome!!! My goal!!! Love the grow, collection, grafts, and set up!!! Learned alot on potting your Old Man too is awesome!!! Thanks.
I'll have to say , the oreocereus trolli in his container he built is awesome!!! Gives me ideas!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, out to so. California have a wonderful week ahead!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌💖🌵🏵🌴🌺🪴🌹🌲🌷🌳👍😃
Great video! What a treat to see Pricklypunk’s collection. Everything is so clean , meticulously cared for and beautifully presented. That man loves his 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵👍🏼
Alex, love your shirt, EcoGrow is one of my favorite places. Really nice helpful people. We frequently hit Arid Lands, and after living here 32 years we finally stopped at BACH’s and B&B just last week for the first time.
Beautiful everything Unfortunately, i live in a hot desert and have to put my plants in massive plastic containers so the roots don’t dry out in a singe hot summer day. Also: CINNAMON is my secret to endless watering 🌵😎😋😋😋
Hi Hunter!!! I am just rewatching a few of your videos over again. I've only been a collector of cactuses for about 16 months now - have about 100 so far 😉- and just germinated my 1st batch of seeds! I am now getting curious about grafting and so I am trying to learn as much as I can about it B4 I start attempting 2 graft some of my own seedlings. My question is pls Sir, idk if y'all actually answered this question or not in the vid, I didn't notice, but all of this gentleman's grafts he had, What kind of rootstocks were those?!?!! Or if ANYONE reading this happens to know what he's using? And WHY use those particular kind as opposed to the more traditional rootstocks most ppl use? Id surely appreciate any info on this u could supply me with!!. LOVE ur videos always!! I turned my son on to watching u too now! U Rock!!! Keep up the great work!! Video request pls: 1) More detailed vids on fertilizing cactuses or adding supplements to soils? 2) More detailed videos on how to take care of seeds AFTER they germinate or asking more of these growers their methods on successful production of seeds & germination. 3) More vids on the importance of conservation. Because I am truly afraid my grandkids are not going to be able to enjoy these beauties one day, especially in the wild. Thank u so much 😊 Sincerely, Anita 🌵
hi anita., my suggestion is get some very cheap T pachanoi seed and pereskiopsis cuttings. sow them now. in spring start practicing grafting them onto the pereskiopsis. you will be growing you own future grafting stock (T pach) and gaining grafting skills. i use pachanoi for most grafts. i looked back at the vid at 16:23 that is pereskiopsis, best stock for small seedlings. here's a tip, when you cut the seeding, graft both pieces, the root portion upside down. odds are it will throw off multi heads and when you degraft, you can replant it right side up with the roots already there.
Could someone be able to tell the species of the plant showed at 8:01 please? and how old could it possibly be? Much appreciated! Great video with Tony anyway!
@@CactusQuest I've been growing/collecting for approx 40 yrs...I'm 47 lol..I was born and raised. I've been envisioning these pots but haven't made them myself bc I've had many plants to care for and didn't make the time. This is why we all have good use for each other 😁 u understand of course.
What kind of gloves were those? The way he man handled that cactus was amazing, ive yet to find gloves that are cactus proof, have to get creative when repotting😆 i have always used drywall tape over my drainage holes, and the roll lasts forever too
As for your question regarding Glandulicactus mathsonii: accepted scientific name now is Sclerocactus uncinatus subs. crassihamatus var. mathssonii. I hope that answers your question. Best regards, Nino P.S. I enjoy your channel very much 👍
Recently stumbled across your channel. You giving some helpful and entertaining videos man 👍 Thanks for that, i believe you was going to ask if it is better to leave the stock on a degraft, or am i wrong? If you know an answer please let me know ✌️ Need to make some expensive cuts this season and would like to know your opinion.
First time seeing your site ..how would you make a pot out of rocks. I'm in in Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, so my love of catus is confined to a small house. I would like to try my hand at it...would you give me a tip or two on how to do that..I would appreciate it
I make these kind of rock pots by using superglue and cotton pads. The pads take up the glue and wil transform into hard pads. So you just fluff one up a bit and where 2 stones touch you add one. I usually use some pliers (the ones used for bending and cutting metal wire and ceramic tiles) or a hammer and chisel to chip off parts of the rocks to make them fit better. The chips can be crushed up and placed onto the pads. If you do that, it's practically invisible. I then use bigger chips to fill any gaps up (you don't want it to be 100% closed but you also don't want giant gaps where soil leaks out) a bit. If you have a really good fit you can also use construction glue, the white putty like kind. It's good for bigger flat pieces, for less uniform rocks I prefer superglue tho
Also keep in mind that stones influence PH and some are water soluble. So make sure you research a bit about the stones and plant you're using. Or try something and write the results down for future reference :)
Oh yea if there are lots of pantiles used in your area, they're perfect for broader plants like sempervivum! Those usually fit together really well when you use pliers, don't even have to glue stuff!
Blue green algae is not an alga. It is cyanobacteria. It is also a big problem in aquariums. There, we treat it with antibiotics, usually erythromycin.
i am so paranoid i let the roots dry out for a week after brushing the loose soil out of them. them i still don't water them for a week. also i repot at times in winter and might just spray them a bit with a spray bottle.
Has anyone else noticed how much house flies love to land on cactus and hangout … maybe rott? Idk just got into collecting cactus and noticing house flies are always checking them out
I’d love to buy a cutting from the fluffy long cactus hanging in hanging basket.I think it’s called monkeys tail can I buy a piece from u or a plant from you and post to Australia please tony.Melissa from Australia 🇦🇺
There’s not really much you can do, unless you want to cut off the elongated section and re-grow the base. The pieces you cut off can usually be rooted, and will produce normal growth as long as you’ve corrected the problem which caused them to stretch out in the first place.
Erythromycin kills blue green algae in aquariums an is fish an plant safe an you can get it online or in an aquarium store i wonder if you made a mix in a spray bottle an sprayed your effected seedlings it will help with you Cyanobacteria issue…?

I feel good about recently switching to 80 inorganic and 20 organic in NorCal. How are those rock pots made?
