Darwin has written in one of his quotes that all travelers should be botanist, as plants were so common. (paraphrased). Sad there are not more botanists.
I'm a tropical ecology university professor, working in East Africa. This is one of the best or the best, dryland movies I have seen. Thank you for posting it!
i know im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any assistance you can give me!
Another group no one talks about but exists are the Nicolettias. These are succulents, which can move to follow trace water. Plants like Echeveria, Titanopsis, Crassula Ovata, ect. All send out aerial roots. These roots allow for these plants, to detach from the base of the main stem and set roots in another location. This allows the plant to slowly move, to a more preferred location. Taking advantage of light, water, shelter. It us more complicated than this, these are the basics.
What a wonderful program, thank you. I've been a avid collector of cacti and Succulents since I had my first greenhouse at 15 yrs old. I'm now 77. I've been fortunate enough to visit many species in their natural habitat in the South West USA and Mexico. Nothing beats finding plants in their natural home, so exciting. I'm and oldtimer Englishman from Shropshire who has never lost the fascination of these genera.
Use that as a search term as well as Cactus and succulents wild in habitat, there's some gems out there like this one If you're into aquarium fish same thing
I love this documentary as a succulant plant enthusiast. ❤ I always come back here every once in a while. ❤ There's not a lot of documentaries that feature beautiful upclose images and videos of succulents in the wild. 🎉❤
Excellent, excellent video. I had the grand pleasure to tour these areas back in 2002 with some of the most knowledgeable succulent experts of their day. A trip I will never forget. The whole experience was life changing for me, and I ultimately moved to New Mexico since so much of the landscape was so simular to South Africa, although the plants are quite different. If you get the chance, take the trip, its well worth it in so many ways.
How beautiful South Africa is; the terrain and plant life are so magnificent . It’s no wonder I seek out these marvelous species of succulents for my home here in Texas .
Beautiful documentary, I love these plants so much, to see them in their natural habitat is incredibly enlightening. Seeing their design to survive these harsh conditions and beautifying arid landscapes, all praise and thanks to my dear Heavenly Father, creator of these beauties.
I do really really enjoy this video ! It has brought me a new fresh idea of succulents in South Africa this beautiful country . Thanks for sharing your wonderful experience with us again ! 🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🙏
What a great educational video on succulents, their habitat and evolution. The production was superb! All succulent fans should watch to better understand the origin of their plants now in cultivation. Thank you.
This was fun to watch, been repotting and learning about my plants that I grow in pots growing in nature from around the world, was fun getting about an 80% naming rate as I watched.
I enjoyed this film so much and I’m grateful to see from afar so many plants that will never grace my windowsills or local plant shops or botanical gardens. Just wonderful. Wonder Full.
Just fascinating, I’ve watched this many times and keep picking up more information, wish you three guys would make more of these videos, a lot of people will never visit this area, plus not a lot of succulent videos out there, thanks again for making this video
Thanks for your video. Such a beautiful world of succulents. It’s eye opening for me. So much to see and so much to learn. I started knowing a little more about succulents through a vendor I met a few years ago. Love succulents.
With climate change upon us succulents have become very popular for water wise gardening.it is wonderful to see a documentary on these fascinating plants in their native habitat.
It amazes me how South Africa looks strikingly similar to parts of Montana in summertime. The succulent at 24:08 looks nearly identical to our state flower the Bitterroot Lewisia Rediviva, which is itself a succulent.
Thank you so much for this highly informative, inspirational, entertaining, and even calming documentary on South African succulents. You showcased one of my favorite parts of the world that I’d love to visit at least once in my lifetime. Hope to see you, gentlemen, some day on those desert trails or who knows I might even become your neighbor. Greeting from Seattle.
I am just a curious person who wants to know about succulent life in the wild. This documentary gave me more than just an answer. Thank you so much. Best Regards from Singapore ❤
The music in this documentary kept on ringing familiar in my ears, most of which I couldn’t remember what it reminded me of. 22:30 is definitely close to the Starship Troopers main score.
Thank you for this wonderful film! I’ve grown and loved succulents for years and it was so exciting to see so many of my favorites are from this part of South Africa!! I learned so much from this film so thank you for all your effort and the excellent outcome.
Excellent effort and thank you for taking us in a journey into the succulent world.. its very nice watching the beauty of nature and masters of surviving...hatts offf .
wonderful documentation! gorgeous plants! the variety of species is simply breathtaking! I would have liked the names of the species shown, but that is purely subjective. i know what kind of work it is to produce films. Many thanks from Germany for showing. greetings Helge
What an exceptional library of information, and what an incredible journey attaining all this knowledge, Thank u Sir's, please may i come carry Your camera bags and bottles of refreshment next expedition:)
Evolution in action. What a fascinating video and sight of succulents, including Conophytum, Dinteranthus ( or Pleiospilos?) and Haworthia in habitat. I’m preparing to try and germinate seed of Dinteranthus pole-evansii, which I’m told requires a large day-night temperature difference. It’s my first foray into this “extreme” environment change, so am excited and a bit anxious too.
Que maravilla , es lo que yo quería ver y de pronto aquí está , su hábitat lugar de nacimiento de estás maravillosas suculentas y demás como los liptos estoy fascinada, gracias por mostrarlas.
An excellent and enjoyable presentation. I love Frans Noltee’s blog, ‘enjoy succulents’. ~ For those interested in this topic I would recommend a book by Florent Grenier, ‘Secrets of Namaqualand Succulents’. ~ I have two playlists on my channel titled ‘The Plants of South Africa #1 and #2’.
I wish documentaries like this were the videos that got millions of views
We're the select few
