I had a total thyroidectomy 16 years ago . I've been on 600 mg of levythyroxine ever since I've had blood tests and yet in past two years I've gained so much weight and my hair is like straw my skin is crappy my mood swings suicidal thoughts depression early menopausal symptoms always cold anemic hypoglycemia and insomnia brain fog head aches nose bleeds chest and adrenal pain fatigue and mustel aches you name it I gotbit , trouble swallowing like I still got a goitor stuck in my throat , my tube dosent contract properly since after my op to remove goitor thyroid , I'm constantly tired . I bare eat and my diet is good I've been plant base since birth . I don't eat junk food or procces foods nor take aways I don't drink or do drugs , I smoke but cut down stopped a few times . And I get so forgetful I bruise easy , I have trouble with my tonsils ear infections thrush boy you name it I get it I'm at the end of my mind I've been telling Mt endocrinology doctor I want to change to the or try it with my levythyroxine, I can't swallow any tablets they get stuck in my wind pipe I can't eat a lot cos I bring it up and feel like a circle storing food in my neck.
This has been going g on foe years , I can't eat bread or certain foods cos boy I feel like I can't breath and my throat swells up. My para thyroid is in da get of developing parathyroid cancer my organs feel like they not working properly , I had all this b4 for 7 years prayer to my thyroidectomy I complained qs my neck was stealing same problems heavy bleeds on my monthly cycle that leave me bleeding weeks to months at a time loosing blood , went to hospital so many times was passing blood , always suffering with piles as well , they said I had kidney stones as I had grave kidney pains , then was kidney infections and then they said I had nental health. Wasn't until my 3rd child I saw a doctor in maternity who said I may have thyroid issues as I was bleeding all throw every pregnancy I had , I have 4 children. I developed cervical cancer had q great percentage of my cervix removed when I was 14 wks pregnant with my 4th baby. But when I had my 3rd the doctor said I had thyroid issues but at time they couldn't do anything cos I was pregnant then after I had him , I couldn't do it cos was on waiting list by time I was ready be seen I was pregnant with 4th baby , after my cervix removal I had same issues and balloned in weight , they still keeper telling me was kidney stones ect I mentioned what the metanerty doc said they said some woman develope it during pregnancy like preaclamptia and gestational diabetes, then it goes away. But I told them I can't breath I was getting sleep apnea and felt so awful, gaining extra weight cold tired ect ,
O went to q different hospital second opinion luckily saw an Egyptian doctor said I had goitor , needed revoking, so went bk to my hospital with paper work. Saw doctor there, he said he'd take put a portion then I'd bed another 3 ops. I said no if your going cut my throat you do it once only and remove it all. He said he couldn't do it. So went bk to other hospital the Egyptian doctor was also a surgeon he removed it took 7 half hours , it was size of a graipfruit, he told me there then he put me on 600 mg levythyroxine for 6 months butter I'd need go on t3 in future , it never changed as my local hospital they wouldn't do it. 3 years ago I suffered a lot stress was attacked the stress affected my hashimotos and again I lost lot blood heavy bleeds I was again put on steroid infusion with made me gain weight and fuck up my nerve system a d a blood transfusion ever since that steroid transfusion I been having vibrations in the body chest pains and qll my under active symptoms, also developed full body rents cos of it.

One doctor the neurologist said I had brain damage was autistic I have mental health problems .
Seriously, I mean I told him no it's my thyroid , no one is taking me seriously I been throw it already I know . I notice my symptoms worsen when I get stressed. The only one who believes me is my mum it runs in family thyroid issues.
I was wondering if I could ask my endocrinologist aboutCytomel (liothyronine
T3 , as I been saying this to levythyroxine is doing nothing but making me feel worse I noticed when I stopped taking it 2 weeks I don't feel so crappy as soon as I go bk on it same issues .
But I bet he's gonna up my dose to 650 he already said he was thinking of doing it. But it won't change shit.

Today I found a doctor who listened to me. She immediately put me on a low does of T3 with 25mcg of T4. She has ordered Reverse T3 tests (my endocrinologist wouldn't) and she understands the direct correlation between diet and hashimotos. She has recommended AIP. I am currently paleo. I had lost hope of finding someone who could understand that although my blood test results looked "optimal" I've felt anything but. Thank you for your advice, guidance and suggestions as many of us battle this seemingly alone.

It felt like it was beating harder and faster than it ever did on cytomel. Awesome you included the mental health relationship. After months (nearly a year) of switching out combinations of anti depressants and mood stabilizers with no positive effects, My psych dr added cytomel to my cocktail and...tada. i can actually get out of bed without agonizing pain and remember things better. And have since tapered off many of the pysch meds further improving my cognition.
My pcdoc never tested me for vitamins/mineral deficiencies or thyroid issues...so i did "fire" her and am looking for a new pcdoc, but glad to see the connection to mental health included in your talk.

In Dec she finally said she wanted me to have a brain scan bc she thinks it's a stroke. It's not a stroke. Stokes don't cause numbness to travel up your arm over several years.

This gone come of bad but bipolar is a mind state. This gone sound extreme but if you have PTSD and take XTC it will smooth over trauma brain cells and help sometimes fix the problem. Now back to T3 is a "Hormone" and hormones effect any mood in alot of ways. Use it for a year Max but after a year low the intake from 100 mcg (Max.) to 25 mcg and never buy it again. 🖒

@drwestinchilds can you talk more about this.....i thought it was an adrenaline response , but you said
" the way thyroid hormone works is that it latches onto the nucleus of the cell, and it kickstarts genetic transcription, and this is how it works in most tissues in your body. However, in your heart, it doesnt do that, t3 sits right on the calcium channels and it causes an increased and forced contraction of the heart immediately. This is why some people that take t3, they feel that rush, those palpitations."

Does taking Sertraline affect natural T3 levels and also Physeptone/Methadone.? Prescribed for me after a motor accident where I incurred a spinal injury and experiencing chronic pain. I have however reduced on methadone down to 5mg per day from 90mg per day with alternative non narcotic pain management and since have noticed my bodyfat has lowered dramatically and I am holding less water weight ...Still on 100mg per day of Sertraline! . Can you please give me some feedback on this Doctor. Thank you!

Dr. Child, thank you for your information, I’m one of the beneficiary of your videos, I started take Lio a years ago reading saw the tremendous change in me, I am very happy about it. But I also realize the I have to keep increasing the dosage over the time. I was Started off with 25 mg Levothyroxine and the 25mg Liothyronine and did wonderfully, but after 3 or 4 months, I noticed weight started gaining slowly ( always the same healthy diet ) I have to increased dosages, and just like this, every several months the doses have to be increased or I will see weight gain. I wonder is the increasing dosage normal and why is that, could you please do a video to talk about the dosage increase please?

Taking T3 medication can lower your TSH quite a bit. I am not sure but I think low TSH stops your body from converting your ft4 into ft3, so now you need to make up for it with more medication.

I think that Dr child has advised that people not waste a lot of time trying to convince their doctor to treat them for hypothyroidism or to treat them in a certain way for hypothyroidism. Give it your best shot with your current doctor and if your current doctor refuses to help you, move on to another doctor. That is what I did, and my new doctor prescribed levothyroxine the first visit. Next visit I am going to try to get him to increase the level of levothyroxine and add some form of t3.

Thanks for the video. If you take T3 for weight loss and only that should you take it in cycles for example12 weeks and then have 4 to 6 weeks off? Also, I know this is probably a stupid question but the higher the dose you take, does that mean you are more likely to lose weight quicker? I know 75mcg is the max dosage but if I was to take 100mcg or 125 mcg would it benefit me most now weighing 93kg or if I was 60kg trying to become underweight? For my BMI I need to be 80kg to be in the normal range and 59kg to be underweight. I know the heavier you are the less effective the medicine is but I would image at 60kg it would be very difficut for me to get rid of the stubborn fat. So that's why I ask about the doageages. I have heard that you need to cycle Cytomel because if you take it for 2 years and then stop, your body will forget to produce thyroid. Is this true?

I have kept up with a lot of your information regarding thyroid health. Thank you for all the great information.
I take Levothyroxine because I have Graves and got my thyroid oblated through radiation when I was 23 (mistake!). I am 27 now, and my issue is low T3 and high RT3. My numbers have been like this for a while, but I have never had weight issues. I am still very lean, I stay around 8 to 9 % body fat. I do intermittent fast but I eat a lot of food, I do not do caloric depravation at all, I eat the amount I want in a certain window of time each day. My last CRP count was .3. The rest of my bloodwork is good but I have dealt with an atrophied kidney on my left side.
I assume my problem is cortisol based? I do believe I naturally live with more stress than I should. My question is if I switched to Cytomel, can it help lower my cortisol through feeling better? I know a healthy lifestyle with whole organic foods, good sleep etc are the most important. I also realize Cytomel will not fix the cause of my low T3 and high RT3. But can it help relieve stress by helping me feel better? I hate being on any medication and will forever regret removing my natural thyroid function, I do not take any other medication or asprin, ever.

    Hello Again Dr Childs,
Listening to this, as I have been playing with different doses of T3 for my Hashi and low body temp, and was wondering if the amount you take daily really matters if you take at once in the AM or split up? Benefits for Hashi's and /or Weight lose? If you were taking 50 MCG, take both in the am or split up? I have tried a few ways and not sure I can tell a difference. I also hear some people need to go up to 75 or even 100 MCG per day, how would you know if you need that much? I have been having extreme dry mouth in the AM and I hear that could be caused by T3 as well? Any input appreciated.

Sorry for the delay. I was on 175mcg Levo and 20mg cytomel
When I lost 20 pounds. This don’t last long. I didn’t tolerate the cytomel. I have been on 2 and a half grain of Armour Thyroid for the last three months. I am 28 more pounds down! My body is going back to where it was with Armour ansd some other changes. What I did was a combination of things. I think it’s a combination of less stress (massages, changed job that was high stress), diet changes (I fast a 16/8 diet but east 1600 calories daily), take my medication on empty stomach and don’t eat until 4 hours later, lots of water 96-124 ounces a day, sleep 7 hours minimum a day, walk up to 4-10 miles daily briskly, and I just started adding weights twice weekly. This was all progression over time and lots of research. It sounds like a lot but it is what has worked for me. I have Graves Disease, Thyroidectomy, and Hysterectomy, and diagnosed with Lupus last month. I’m still losing and looking A LOT better with REST, Clean Eating 90 percent of the time, excercise, water, less stress.....and Armour Thyroid. Finding a Endocrinologist that will pay attention to your symptoms as well as your labs is very important. I went through three before I found a good one. Don’t waste your time arguing with a doctor that doesn’t listen. Move on quicky. I wasted a lot of time begging and pleading with doctors who didnt listen. Good luck!
