Apparently gonzo messaged me and claims he invented the name himself despite the fact I see everywhere on the internet it came from the movie Excalibur. So yeah...

Bushs voice is amazing BUT he is not a great lyricist. This band could have been so much for so many reasons. The biggest reasons is that Bushs melodies and lyrics are not up there with the best bands of the era.

I loved Armored Saint, bought their first album based on the album cover alone (a healthy dose of teenage love for all things medieval might've had something to do with that!). Still love em to this day.

I saw armored saint on new years eve 1983 at the orange show grounds in San Bernardino with Bitch and a couple other bands. It was called the new years eve metal massacre. 10 years or so later I saw them at Dallas city limits on the symbol of salvation tour. After their set ended I was outside the club smoking some buds with Phil from last crack RIP Phil. So a sweaty John bush came out the door to catch some air. And I had a little conversation with him . When I told him about the first time I saw armored saint . I mentioned the date of the show . Thats all. He told me where it was at and shared several memories of that night. Not only is the dude one of the best metal vocalists I've ever heard but his mind is sharp. And very intelligent guy. Most rock stars probably can't tell you where they played last night much less a decade earlier. this story has a kinda cool ending also. The next year I went to see anthrax and white zombie at fair park in Dallas. At that show John was singing for anthrax and Phil from last crack was the drummer for white zombie. Just a pretty cool story and memories I thought I'd share with y'all

OK stop. Right there is a problem! March of the saint album, is what made me like armored saint! That album totally blew me away when I was 17. That’s the whole reason why I like Armored saintit it is because of that album. So symbol of salvation doesn’t even come close to touching March of the saint I mean hello anyone hello nobody’s home! John Bush and the guys somehow it went over their head they missed it! March of the saint was a freaking rocking album so was delirious nomad and so was raising fear! then they went downhill after that.

00:08 Judas Priest were not part of the NWOBHM. They're way older than those bands..

They started earlier, but doesn’t mean they can’t be included. When I think of British metal, I think of Maiden and Priest. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@andrewptob The NWOBHM started in the late 1970's. Bands formed earlier are not classed as part of the movement except in error. The same applies to UFO, Motorhead, Budgie and Black Sabbath.

The early 90s were great if you were a John Bush fan! Symbol of Salvation is the greatest Armored Saint album and Sound of White Noise is one of the best Anthrax albums. I played the hell out of those CDs back then!! Great stuff!!

Can you do a story on rebel meets rebel and how that came about? I started listening to it after at least 10 years of not hearing it and it has a cool story about dime meeting David Allen Coe.
