Repentance is changing your mind. Even changing your mind in ordering something else in the menu is called repenting. Even God repented (Gen 6:1) Repentance is turning from trusting your own self-righteousness and trusting in Christ alone for everlasting life. If you use to trust in your good works but are now trusting in Christ alone for everlasting life, then you have repented.

You must listen to Renee Roland one of the worst false teachers.
The blood of Jesus washes aways sin but to receive it one first must first humble themself by acknowledging they are a sinner and repent of their sinfulled life to Jesus.
True repentance leads a person to change their mind by renouncing sin, to God and prove it with a 180-degree change of their lifes direction.
Your life was going in one direction (sin) and you make a decision of the heart and mind (will) to take your life in the opposite direction with His help.
      Repentance is not an emotion.
Repentance is not asking the Lord for forgiveness with the intent to go back to the sin(s) again.
Repentance is an honest, regretful acknowledgement of sin with a heartfelt desire to change.
Repentance - turning from our sin to God and that we realize we have disobeyed God. We have violated His law, offended his moral purity, tried to cast off his yoke of authority. It requires that we admit we have turned from God to sin. Repentance is something that should be ongoing in our lives.

Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

We all know that a believer must recieve the Holy Spirit in order to be saved. In Acts ch.19 upon encountering the disciples outside Ephesis Paul asked them," Have you recieved the Holy Spirit since you believed"? @@briandavenport8971 We know that the jailer heard the gospel, turned to the Lord and was water baptized. The reason that it isn't stated that he recieved the Holy Spirit with the first evidence of speaking in tongues is easily explained.
The Word frequently will repeat something said and/ or an event three times for two important reasons:
      1) To direct our attention to an important spiritual truth.
      2) To set a precedent to where the same circumstance need not be repeated exactly as it occurs each time it appears in scripture.
This is known in biblical study as The Law Of Repetition and is a proven method used in interpreting scripture.
Three times we have examples in scripture of believers recieving the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved,( Acts ch.2,10,and ch.19).
In each instance when the believers recieved the Holy Spirit the first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues.
Another example of the Law of Repetition at work is in Acts ch.2. After the believers recieved the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues, three times the men in the crowd asked how they were hearing what the believers were saying in their native languages.
One time would have been sufficient if thats all it meant, but the reason that the men asked three times is to reveal to us that the miracle for those in the crowd wasn't that the believers were speaking in their native languages but they were hearing what the believers were saying in one spiritual language in their native languages.
The only reason that the word" tongues" is pluralized is because more than one believer was speaking it.
Paul called it the unknown tongue that no man knoweth.( 1Cor.14:2).
If no man knows it then its not a language natuve to this world.
Lastly,Acts ch.2 is an example of the first evidence that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit and a sign to unbelievers, the men in the crowd.

If a person places his faith in Christ alone and no longer is trusting no longer in his works, or self-righteous (which is dirty, filthy rags in God's sight), then that person has repented. What does a person trust in, his/her works, or the finished work of Christ alone. Repentance from sin is necessary after we are born again, in terms of our Christian walk and spiritual growth. We still have our sinful flesh, and we will still fall short.

Somewhat like accepting his free gift and being thankful for it? I am thankful to The Lord for this since he could have just as easily left us to suffer for eternity with our sins. He knows we need him and just wants us to be grateful for what he is doing and to thank him for it.

Acts 19.4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
So it depends on what you're repenting of. In this case you would be repenting of unbelief to belief in Jesus Christ in order to be baptized.
In the bible God repents many times, people assume repenting is always of or from their sins.
In many cases repenting is just a change of mind, for example, I was going to eat a sandwich but I repented and had a coffee instead.

This passage shows that God turned to another decision. Therefore, the word repent means to turn, and it means to change one’s mind. If human beings could repent of all of their sins and come to Jesus, why would they need a savior in the first place? Human beings cannot repent from sins. All they can do is believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior and it is the righteousness of Godthrough grace by faith in Christ that frees us away from sin

    A bit confusion there.
Repentance does not mean from your sins cause God repented more than anyone else in the bible, so saying that repentance is always from sin is blasphemous.
We are saved by faith so we must repent from trusting our works, goodness, false "gods" or anything that we were trusting and put trust/repent in faith to Jesus.
We need to change/repent our faith on Jesus as we are saved by it.

    Bob Wilkin
    Repentance is a gift.
    Acts 11:18
When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
    John the Baptist taught this.
    Mark 1:4
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
    --
Baptism of repentance, to be baptized with repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
We know it's a matter of being baptized with repentance, that it's a gift , not something you can do, because of what John said here.
    Matthew 3:11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
    ----
Unless you want to falsely conclude that we have somehow been able to merit forgiveness.
Sola fida is a false teaching as well; because it is not by faith alone, for faith is a gift.
Do you not know there is a different meaning between believe and faith?
    Galatians 3:22
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
    ---
The faith of Jesus is a gift given to them that believe the gospel, just as the scriptures proclaim.
    Ephesians
2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    ---
Saved through the faith of Jesus
How is it that so many of you teachers interpret faith as if it is something one must conjure up from within themselves to place on Jesus, when faith is clearly a gift?
    Galatians 2:16
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
    ----
Justified by the faith of Jesus.
The faith of Jesus is a gift granted to those who believe the gospel.
The faith of Jesus comes inro the believer through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, for faith is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.
    Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Your teachings are false, your interpretations, or your borrowed interpretations are false doctrines of men.
Only God has the authority to interpret what he means.
    2 Peter
1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Bob Wilkin of the Grace Evangelical Society answers the question, "Is repentance is an inherent contradiction of the Gospel?" Justin Peters at one time faced this dilemma and turned to Calvinism for his answer. That is repentance is not a work since it is given by God. Bob Wilkin looks at whether biblically the answer provided by Calvinism is correct, and answers the question of "Whether repentance is required for eternal life?"

    • @DanielJosephPaul
      @DanielJosephPaul 2 месяца назад

      @GESvids
So your answer is to exclude repentance as a gift given by God, to be apart of the gospel message, because repentance isn't mentioned in certain scriptures?
      Acts
20:25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
20:26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
As far as Calvanism goes, it's a doctrine of men. So to use Justin Peter's to build an argument against the the scriptures I provided to show repentance is a gift, is of no value.

Great presentation - so true. I was of the understanding that the word repentance meant to have a "change of mind" and yes, a change of mind could result in a turning from sin. However I don't believe that turning from sin is always required in order to have repentance. According to Jonah 3 repenting(turning) from sin is a work, we are not saved by works but by grace through faith Ephesians 2:8-9, in this dispensation of God's grace we have to repent(turn) from UNBELIEF and trust in Jesus.
According to the book of Jude easy-believism is a heresy, because easy-believism teaches that there is no changed life after salvation, which turns God's grace into lasciviousness.
The important difference between biblical salvation and easy-believism is that easy-believism has no changed life after salvation, because they wanna have an excuse to sin.
This is because John 3 tells us that he who believes in Jesus is not condemned, but in Jude it says easy-believists are condemned, this is because easy-believists don't even believe, but rather they want to sin.
I AM IN NO WAY SAYING YOU HAVE TO STOP SINNING, i'm just saying that the book of Jude condemns turning God's grace into lasciviousness. Meaning, sinning less is not something you do, but something God helps you to do by His Holy Spirit.
Biblical salvation includes a changed life after becoming born-again, however, that changed life can {ONLY} happen(as i just said) by the Holy Spirit of God, this is because Jesus is the source of our wisdom and strength.
So when you get saved God by His Holy Spirit helps you clean up your life, it's not an effort you make, it's what God is doing in you, and He is faithful to finish what He started.
Easy-believism and Lordship salvation are both heresies!
Faith alone OSAS is biblical, but easy-believism is satanic, because it turns Jesus' death on the cross into a "ticket to sin". God bless you all in Jesus Name

Sorry, but that was a confusing message imho. The word repent or metanoia and metanoeo always mean a change of mind about something. That thing that is repented about or that which you've changed your mind about will be found in the context. The change of mind can indeed include a change of mind about sins. What happened with the Ninevites was more of a national turning from wickedness in order to prevent the judgment of God upon Ninevah. I believe that God had mind to turn Ninevah into another Sodom and Gomorrah. A lost person who worships another false God must repent of that and turn in their hearts to the true God and to trusting in the sacrifice of Christ alone for salvation. I personally could not get saved until I came to repentance, change of mind, about my agnosticism. I then received the gospel message from Isaiah 53 and the Romans Road plan. I called on the Lord and trusted Christ as my Savior. I was instantly saved DURING that sinner's prayer. That was back in 1977 and I remember it as if it were yesterday. A lost sinner must only admit that they have sinned against a holy and righteous God. Then they must receive and believe the simple gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ who alone bore their sins on the cross as the "Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."
I might add that a change of life is ALWAYS the RESULT of believing on Christ, NOT the other way around. We don't get better in order to get saved, but we get better BECAUSE we are already saved.

    • @randyd9805
      @randyd9805 2 года назад +1

@NikoR96 Yes, the issue of as you put it, front loading works as a requirement for salvation is a major roadblock to salvation. The lost sinner is not required by God to "clean up their lives" before God will save them. That is clearly doing good works or trying to keep the law in order to get saved. I was living in numerous wicked sins back in 1977 when I heard the clear gospel from Isaiah 53. All I knew was I was a sinner and that Christ had taken the punishment for my sins on the cross. I was born again about 1 week later. It was God who changed my life, radically I might add, not me. It was because God put His own divine nature in me and His Spirit immediately came to dwell in me that I had a change of life. The Bible is clear that "the flesh profiteth NOTHING. The flesh cannot produce ANY righteousness in us either before or after salvation. Many good people are confused about this because many have forced a wrong definition of repentance, especially in the New Testament. Many read it and think immediately it means "turn from your sins", but that is not what it means. It simply means you hear or read something, you think about it, and as a result, you change your mind because of what you heard or read.

*Strive to Enter the Kingdom? Matthew 7:13-14* - Bob Wilkin
      faithalone.org/grace-in-focus-articles/strive-to-enter-the-kingdom-matthew-713-14/
A reader sent in this question:
Hello. Thanks for your articles. I genuinely believe in salvation by faith alone, by trusting in Jesus Christ as God and His atoning death/blood for the forgiveness of sins.
However, one Scripture that has always confused me is Matthew 7:13-14. What does Jesus mean when He says we need to strive to enter the narrow gate and that the way is hard? Does that seem to imply an intense struggle to be saved?
In other words, how does Matthew 7:13-14 square with Romans 6:23, Galatians 2:16, or Romans 5:1?
Thank you in advance for your response.
The Lord Jesus did refer to entering by the narrow gate in Matt 7:13-14. But the text does not mention striving. The questioner is thinking of Luke 13:24: “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.”
The reader asks a super question when he asks how to square striving to enter with other clear verses that teach justification by faith alone, apart from works (Gal 2:16; Rom 5:1). Whenever we perceive one passage as contradicting another, we need to ask how the two can be harmonized.
Some think that Matt 7:13-14 concerns discipleship rather than salvation from eternal condemnation. They understand “the way which leads to life” to refer to the path of discipleship that leads to abundant life. However, in this context, it is more natural to understand the phrase as referring to how to enter into everlasting life (cf. Matt 18:8-9; 19:16-17).
If everlasting life and justification are in view, we know the sole condition is faith in Christ (John 3:16; 5:24; 6:47; Gal 2:16; Rom 5:1).
Could faith alone in Christ for everlasting life be the narrow gate?
Do some people need to strive to believe Jesus’ promise of everlasting life (e.g., John 3:16)?
      Yes, and yes.
Most people on Earth today reject the faith-alone message. Even most professing Christians!
Coming from another religion might make you uncomfortable attending church or talking with a Christian about Christ. The faith-alone message might seem like nonsense to you.
The same is true, as well, if you come from most Christian traditions. You would be uncomfortable attending a church that proclaims the faith-alone message.
The word translated strive is agonizomai. We get the word agonize from it. It is used seven times in the NT. It is translated as fight in John 18:36; 1 Tim 6:12; and 2 Tim 4:7. Paul used it to refer to competing for a prize in 1 Cor 9:25.
It is translated as striving in Col 1:29 and laboring fervently in Col 4:12.
Striving/fighting/competing is not required in order to be born again. The Lord never said that. But for most in His legalistic Jewish audience, striving was, in a sense, necessary in order to come to belief in Jesus’ promise of eternal life.
The Lord rebuked some legalistic Jews, saying, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” (John 5:39-40).
Their problem was not that they searched the Scriptures (cf. Acts 17:11). It was that they were searching with closed minds. They were not seeking to find God’s way to eternal life. They were seeking to understand what the greatest commandments were so that they could best gauge the likelihood that they would gain kingdom entrance.
Does that sound familiar? Isn’t that the way many people in Christendom search the Scriptures? Aren’t many seeking to check their works against Scripture? Don’t they base their assurance and that of others on how obedient they are?
If you have ever shared the faith-alone message, you know that most people reject it. Most are happy to tell you why you are preaching a false gospel. They will charge you with cheap grace and easy believism.
Maybe you could tell them that the narrow gate is the faith-alone, apart from works, way. You could ask them if they are willing to ask God if the faith-alone message is true. Are they willing to read the Gospel of John and meditate honestly on what they find? Is striving to find the truth out of the question for them?
Thomas Edison took fourteen months to get a working light bulb. He tried thousands of filaments that didn’t work before finding one that did. He had to strive to find the right filament. His striving was certainly work.
But striving to enter by the narrow way is not work. This striving does not involve turning from sins and doing good works. It involves being open to believing in the Lord Jesus Christ for the gift of everlasting life. That message may seem heretical to people. They may hate it, as Saul of Tarsus did. The striving needed is prayer and openness to the Word of God.
For years, Martin Luther strove to be justified before God by his works. He turned from his sins, sought to live a holy life, went on pilgrimages, taught the Scriptures to others, and confessed his sins to other priests. It was all to no avail. Then, while meditating on Scripture, he realized that justification is by faith alone, apart from works.
If the legalist is open to the truth, then his legalistic striving will eventually give way to the realization that everlasting life is a gift given to all who simply believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it odd that many are willing to strive to enter into life by doing everything except praying and studying. They turn from their sins, commit their lives to Christ, and begin on the path of discipleship. They give their money. But these people who will seemingly do anything to gain everlasting life are unwilling to consider that their view may be wrong. They are unwilling to simply come to the Lord Jesus that they may have life (John 5:40).
Don’t be afraid to ask people if they are willing to strive in order to gain everlasting life if the striving involves prayer and study of the Gospel of John. Ask them if they are willing to believe the faith-alone message.
There is no other way to be born again. If people are not willing to believe in Jesus for the gift of everlasting life, then their need is to become willing. That may take striving. Striving to find the truth is a good thing.

In order to be saved from the power of sin you need to "repent and be baptized." Just because God requires you to work (repent and be baptized) doesn't mean your work saves you - it is still God who alone saves. The nature of your work (which does not save) is not like God's work (which does save). God can change your nature, you can't. But having said that, God still links what you do to receiving what he is offering.

    • @Ssethtzeentach_enjoyer

It's really simple; when you get saved, only your Spirit is [re]born of God. Your flesh still isn't saved, so you have the old man (flesh) and the new man (Spirit). When you sin, it's called "living in the flesh", so every time you sin, you're living in the part of yourself that is not born of God.
Regarding "if we say we know Him but keep on sinning...", remember that "knowing God" isn't the same thing as salvation. God has to know us in order for us to get saved, but we don't have to know Him. Obviously, we need to know about His Son, the death, burial, and resurrection, we need to know a little about the trinity, and all the other fundamentals of salvation, but we don't need to know all the commandments or anything like that to go to Heaven.
Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 7:23: "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." - He said "I never KNEW YOU", not "YOU never KNEW ME". And if you read the verses preceding that one, those people were trusting in their own works to get them to Heaven, similar to the ROYS (repent of your sins) crowd.

"To know God is everlasting life, you can’t get One without the Other." - Wrong; everlasting life is to believe on Christ.
That being said, if you got more scripture, by all means provide it. I've always been under the impression that "knowing God" is after salvation and not synonymous with it at all.

If the pastor said we have have to change our lifestyle before we come to Christ he is wrong, if he said there must be a change after then he is correct.
For Jesus ti grant forgiveness of sins without a change of conduct is to make the grace of God an accomplice to evil.

Without repentance there can be no faith.
To believe is faith produced by repentance.
Jesus Peter and Paul all said REPENT first then BELIEVE.
In James 2 he is saying what Paul says show evidence of your faith by your works.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-
Faith is a gift from God granted to those who have repented first.
9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
Our works we've done regardless of how noble or much (Outside of Christ) are as filthy rags in God's eyes.
Paul makes clear that we are to do works in Christ Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Jesus says we are to do works (bear fruit) in His name.
      John 15:1-6
      Matthew 10:8
      Matthew 28:19
      John 14:12
      And More.
James and Paul are on the exact same page.
      Acts 26:20
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God,(Believe) and do works meet for repentance.
Show your faith through your works (actions)
      James 2:14
What doth it profit,my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
      James 2:17-19
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
      James 2:21-24
Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? 23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. 24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
      James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Without works Abraham's faith would have been meaningless, that is why Jesus Peter and Paul say to repent first which is evidence that God has granted Faith to truly believe.
The False teachers that discard James 2 do it because they teach that if you strive to live a life in obedience to Jesus that's adding works which that teaching contradicts much of the new testament which teaches we must have a change of conduct and lifestyle if we are true Christians.

      Faith without works is dead.
70% of Americans say they believe but now many have admitted they are sinners and change their mind about their sinfulled life's?
      1 Corinthians 15:2
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
What was the command of Jesus that Paul preached?
      Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.
      Acts 20:21
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith (believe) in our Lord Jesus.

The only thing you have correct is that John's Gospel was written long after Jesus's death on the cross.
Obviously it was not written for evangelism as you continue to claim.
It was written to the already repented church in Ephesus to encourage believers to continue believing that Jesus is the Son of God hence why John uses the word believe so often.
You are putting the cart before the horse.
None of the verses you continue to quote in John mention forgiveness of sins and why would they when they aren't for evangelism.
Without repentance there is no forgiveness of sins.
      Luke 24:45-47
      Acts 2:38-41
      Acts 3:19
      Acts 20:21
      Acts 22:16
      Acts 26:18-20
Peter and Paul make it clear their teachings in Acts is for Jews and Gentiles.
      Acts 11:18
When the others heard this, they stopped objecting and began praising God. They said, “We can see that God has also given the Gentiles the privilege of repenting of their sins and receiving eternal life.”
      2 Corinthians 7:9-10
9Now I am glad I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants his people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way. 10
For 👉the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow.👈 But worldly sorrow,
which 👉lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.👈

Would you love your child less if they were unable in any way? Of course not-No good deeds works etc cannot save you at all- but to say you don’t repent is incorrect as well. Like the last comment repentance means fully believing and turning to Christ for your salvation period, but this absolutely does result in changed behavior! And a changed life. So if you believe Jesus is Savior but still do religious works to ‘earn’ His favor that’s incorrect, if you believe Jesus is Savior and continue to practice sin and have no desire at all to live His way that’s incorrect too. Read through the gospels for yourself asking Jesus to fully know Him and He will more than make it clear.

So you're saying Jesus came he died he went through all that pain and suffering so all we have to do is believe in him and continue living a sinful life being in bondage to sin which means we work for Our Father the devil and we can still be saved? Wow I can't believe how little you think of Jesus this is what he died for? Can you please read this it will clear it all up for you!!! 1 John 3:5-8 now don't get me wrong the Bible does say Jesus came to die for our sins of course 100%!!!! The Lord Jesus said “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
Believing without deeds of faith is dead. If you believe then you will repent. True continuous believing will lead you through the journey of repentance. You cannot believe unless you repent, Believing is from the heart not from the mind. In repentance you humble yourself before God, God will give you godly sorrow that brings repentance that leads to salvation. Then you will pray earnestly, seeking The Righteousness of The Lord Jesus and turn away from sin. Without repentance your faith dies. How can you be saved if your faith is dead?
Let The Parable of The Sower speaks to your heart. Only the seeds that was sown on good soil, grows that produce grains. Only those who have fruits will be harvested.
If you do not repent, you will die an evildoer, then this is what you are going to here from The Lord Jesus "Away from Me you evildoer. I don't know you".

    What is Repentance,what is faith?
    Jesus said in Luke 24:46-47
He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
What does the Bible say about repentance?
It means a recognition of my sin which involves Godly sorrow and a commitment on my part to change the direction of my life. Repentance is not an emotion. Its more than being grieved or feeling sorry about my sin and even having remorse.
It is making a genuine 180° change of heart recognizing that sin(s) is against God.
God wants there to be a genuine change of life because living in sin is disobedience and rebellion against God and the end result will be destruction of the soul in hell.
There must be a change in conduct, and how you live.
First, John the Baptist came preaching repentance then Jesus's first command was to Repent. Paul said that all men everywhere must repent.
Jesus said I have not come to call the righteous but SINNERS TO REPENTANCE. Why didn't He say for salvation or for faith?
Because they used those terms interchangeably. Jesus is calling for a change of life, salvation for the forgiveness of sins.
What about the scriptures that say we are saved by faith? John's gospel doesn't mention repentance why? Because they understood faith and repentance go hand in hand. If you have genuine faith you will have genuine repentance.
Paul said to the philippian jailer believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Nothing about repentance Go to Acts 17:30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now commandeth all men every where to repent.
Nothing about believing in this one. Go to
    Acts 20:21
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.
Repent and believe. Then in Acts 26:20 (b)
I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their
    repentance by their deeds.
Paul is saying repent and show your repentance by your works.
Faith and repentance go hand in hand.
What is Jesus saving us from? Matthew 1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Salvation is salvation from sin, that why Jesus's first command was Repent.
You can't truly believe without repentance and you can't repent without believing.
Let's say a man is an adulterer a serial rapist who steals from his job to support his drug habit, He says Jesus I don't want to go to hell, so forgive me so I won't go to hell and bless me and continues to live the same way. That's not salvation. It's not about stopping your sins first, it's making the decision of your will to make a 180° turn around in your life with Jesus's help.It must be a salvation from sin, it's forgiveness of sin, being saved from sin.Where we fall short we are continually cleansed and washed in the blood of Jesus.

John 3:16 alone refutes your view .
If your view were Exegetically derived - thus objectively true - then metanoi must necessarily be in every conceivable Justification before God/Evangelistic/Everlasting Life passage .

Some say John's gospel was written for evangelism because it says in John 20:31
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
The misunderstanding is because in John's gospel the word believe is always in the present continuous tense, which doesn't mean just believe once, it means go on believing.
Everywhere in John's gospel the emphasis is going on believing.
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son that whosoever goes on believing- present continuous tense-
Whoever is believing. It means to go on doing something, all the way through John's gospel it means go on believing that Jesus is the son of God, going on believing, you may go on having life.
That whosoever goes on believing will never perish but go on having eternal life. Ask any expert in Greek and they will say that's what the original text says.
In other words John's gospel was not written to convert people but to tell believers to continue believing.
That's why John doesn't deal with repentance or water baptism because he assumes the readers are already repented and been baptized.
The fact that John doesn't mention repentance doesn't mean its not necessary.
John knew that believing and repentance go hand in hand.
Nobody would repent if they didn't believe, and nobody was a believer unless they repented.
He's saying go on believing because in Ephesus where he lived when he wrote it there was a heretic called Cerinthus that was teaching bad things about Jesus and that bad teaching was getting into the church. So John wrote his gospel for believers to make them go on believing in
Jesus as the son of God.
It's the going on believing that is so important. Believing that Jesus is the son of God, going on believing that you may go on having life.

Do some word studies and stop repeating what your idols behind pulpits say. "Repent" is metanoia in Greek and it literally means "other mind" as in 'change your mind/thinking'. "Sin" on the other hand (hamartia), is an archery term meaning "miss the mark". Ergo, you're supposed to change your mind and believe in the good news, instead of missing the mark by trusting in your works.
This is something that naturally happens when one comes to Christ and places their trust in his FINISHED work on the cross. It doesn't mean what you think it means.

*Paul Preached Repentance and Faith (Acts 20:21)*
      faithalone.org/blog/paul-preached-repentance-and-faith-acts-2021/
December 16, 2019 by Bob Wilkin
We are nearly done with the final proofing of the second edition of our one-volume NT commentary. (The first edition came out in 2010, and we sold the last copies in January of this year.) We hope to have it in print by December 19.
I’ve been going through changes that Al Valdes made in his commentaries on Luke and Acts. When I got to Acts 20:21, he and I discussed it.
Here is what we finally came up with as commentary on Acts 20:21:
Paul also recounted the content of his ministry proclamation: “repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ” (see also Luke 24:47). Paul here referred to his ministry in Asia from the first day (cf. 20:18). Repentance rendered unbelievers receptive to the gospel (cf. Acts 17:30-31). However, it never served as a co-condition for eternal salvation-which only requires belief in Jesus (cf. Acts 15:7-11; 16:31; see also John 3:16-18).
We left that comment a bit vague on the question of whether Acts 20:21 concerns Paul’s evangelistic preaching or all his preaching.
I’m in print as suggesting that Acts 20:21 concerns Paul’s entire preaching ministry, not simply his evangelistic preaching. (See faithalone.org/journal-articles/does-free-grace-theology-diminish-the-gospel-2/ under II. E. See also an article by Bill Fiess faithalone.org/grace-in-focus-articles/repentance-and-faith/). However, I am open to the possibility that Paul is discussing his evangelistic ministry. It is true that when an unbeliever repents, he is more open to the message of life than he was before he repented. That could be what Paul is talking about. We do not have enough details in Paul’s exhortation to the Ephesian elders (Acts 20:17-38) to be certain. However, if it is appropriate to consider the epistle to the Ephesians in this question, then the evidence tips toward Acts 20:21 referring to Paul’s entire preaching ministry. Paul never mentions repentance in Ephesians. But he does mention salvation by faith alone often (Eph 1:13, 15, 19; 2:5, 8-9; 3:12).
The key is Al’s last line of explanation: “[repentance] never served as a co-condition for eternal salvation-which only requires belief in Jesus (cf. Acts 15:7-11; 16:31; see also John 3:16-18.”

Did you notice he said, "What we came up with."
Acts 20:21 means exactly what it says.
Sola fida is a false doctrine, contrived through man's understanding of the meaning.
Scripture interprets scripture always, no exceptions.
      2 Peter
1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
      ---
God gave no one the right or authority to interpret what he means.
It is through repentance and faith.
      Repentance and faith are gifts.
      Acts 11:18
When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
      Ephesians
2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
      ----
The faith of Jesus is a gift given to them that believe the gospel.
      Galatians 3:22
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

Every person who's now in heaven, in a way, "has repented from all their sins," because there's No sin in heaven. No choice to sin there. They chose Life and this Life is in Jesus. As long as your hope is in Jesus and knowing full well that you'll be a brand new creation in heaven...then that is repenting of your sins. You are turning from self and now Believing into Jesus for a new life that only He can give you.

Acts 2: 37-40 if your going to preach preach all the word of God nor just select scriptures. Jesus said repeatedly Repent the kingdom of heaven is at hand. There is no turning away from sin UNLESS you FULLY turn away from YOURSELF (my way)and turn FULLY to God. When you do this your sins are forgiven and you then have POWER to turn from sins. (Acts ch 2) But to say there is no repentance only belief in Jesus is untrue- the demons believe and know who He is and shudder. That’s not SAVING faith.

Obedience is required for salvation. Sinning Christians are not released from the punishment that the law has always required for sin. Only the obedient Christians are released from the punishment of the law. Sinning Christians are living as if Jesus never came, because they wont recieve any of the benefits that he gave up his life to bring to us. He promised to give his true followers a new heart so that we can obey his laws.

You don't believe if you don't obey.
      Repentance precedes Faith.
John 3:16 is not a verse for being saved it is one of many that John uses to encourage the church to continue believing.
that Jesus is the Son of God.
      The message of salvation:
Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God died on the cross was buried and rose again for our sins?
      (Acts 2:31-32)
If yes then everything Jesus preached on repenting of sin applies to Gentiles as well
      Luke 24:45-47
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
And REPENTANCE FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be preached in His name to 👉ALL NATIONS 👈Starting in Jerusalem.
      Jesus said:
      Matthew 16:18
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Jesus again reaffirms Peter to start the church in John 21:17
The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things: you know that I love you."
      “Feed my sheep.
When did Peter start the church?
Acts 2 is the day of pentecost which is the start of the church.
This was the first time in church where some asked how to be saved.
37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,( Including John)“BROTHERS, WHAT SHALL WE DO? (TO be saved)
38Peter replied, “REPENT and be BAPTIZED, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS. And YOU WILL RECEIVE the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off. (meaning gentiles) for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
      Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
Note Peter said the same thing as Jesus We repent of sin for the forgiveness of sins for salvation.
      Peter again includes Gentiles.
      Acts 11:18
When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying,
So then, even to Gentiles God has granted REPENTANCE THAT LEADS TO LIFE".
      Acts 17:30
In the past God overlooked such ignorance but now COMMANDETH ALL PEOPLE EVERY WHERE TO REPENT.
      Acts 20:21
I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they MUST TURN TO GOD IN REPENTANCE AND HAVE FAITH in our Lord Jesus.
      Acts 22:16
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on the name of the Lord.
      Jesus and Paul
      Acts 26:18-20
To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, SO THAT THEY MAY RECEIVE FORGIVENESS OF SINS and a place among those who are SANCTIFIED BY FAITH IN ME.’
19“So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.20
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should REPENT AND TURN TO GOD and demonstrate their REPENTANCE by their deeds.
      2 Corinthians 7:9-10
Yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because YOUR SORROW LED YOU TO REPENTANCE. For YOU BECAME SORROWFUL as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10GODLY SORROW BRINGS REPENTANCE THAT LEADS TO SALVATION and leaves no regret, but worldly SORROW BRINGS DEATH.

      Repentance is a command.
It's no more a works than believing that Jesus is the Son of God is. They are required in that order.
Throughout scripture Repentance always precedes Faith.
      In Jonah 6:10
They repented of their evil works [which is sin] so God relented and did not destroy them.
If Sodom and Gomorrah would have repented of their evil works [sin] then God would not have destroyed them.
The same thing goes for me and you and all people if we don't repent of our evil works [sin] then God will destroy us in the lake of fire.
      Mark 6:11-12
11And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Note John and the other disciples preached repentance just like Jesus.
12And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
Stop with this narrative that John never preached repentance.

When Paul's is talking about not mixing works/the law with grace he's referring to the old Mosaic laws which of course I never disputed.
We are all under the Lordship of Jesus or the lordship of satan.
      They both have opposing kingdoms.
      There is no in beteeen.
      Romans 6:16
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey-whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, [satan's lordship] or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
      [Jesus's Lordship]
You like many confuse the old law of Moses with the new testament teaching of Jesus's law.
Much of the teaching of Jesus Peter John James and Paul is about how a believer in Jesus is to live.
It's not the same thing as adding works to grace.
If you have come to Christ through repentance then Paul says
      2 Corinthians 5:15,17
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:The old has gone, the new is here!

I enjoy many of Mr. Wilkin's videos and find them helpful however one thing gave me pause.
We know from many scriptures that God repented. So, this acknowledgement does not support the definition of repentance as put forth in this video.
"A change of mind or attitude" seems to be a better definition.
It is clear from scripture, that repentance does not save anyone.
Repentance is a work as the verse in Jonah declares. (Jonah 3:10)
And salvation is by faith, not by works as many verses indicate. (Gal 2:16 for example)
"Repent from your sins" is misleading and erroneous when coupled to any perceived requirements for salvation.

"For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience... And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore, He says: “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”" - Ephesians 5:5-6, 11-14

Ok so like those who believe you have to do something, like work based, to enter Heaven don't have the understanding that it's a free gift & may not make it? Like the pharasees or people who believe purgatory along with believing, added works? I'd think that's denying the free gift of salvation. I fully believe that Jesus came to save us, Him alone, as a free gift of salvation. I just get people saying all the time well you sinned & stumble with a certain sin so if you don't fully repent or forgive those who hurt you (this is what I'm struggling with) then Ull go to hell. Then I question myself again. Yes I am working on the forgiveness part of it with my end but, I was hurt very very deeply by people who are suppose to love me. God knows my story & I am trying to get past the pain. At the same time I had people say "well you better before you die or you won't be forgiven" I'm truly trying.

      Good afternoon 🎉
Remission of sins is received through repentance, a change of mind is not repenting of sins. Also refer to John 3:18.
Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness that through his name whosoever BELIEVETH in him shall RECEIVE REMISSION OF SINS. Notice how God didn't say "whosoever repent of sins shall receive remission from sins."
If you still believe that repenting of your sins will save you, you have diminished God's completed work on the cross of calvary. You have not fully 100% trusted that He saved you from your sins so you go out of your OWN WAYS to REPENT OF YOUR SINS thinking that this will save you!
It is impossible to not sin after you're saved. Do you know each and every little sin you committed each day, each hour, and each minute? You are not God. You are not omniscient.

Repentance is implied in the act of believing in Jesus for salvation. Acts 17:30... "In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent." Now, let me ask you this: Can you continue in your sin after asking Jesus to save you or must there be a change or changes (sometimes small sometimes large and incremental)? Antinomianism (continuing in sin after salvation and calling it grace) is the result of easy salvationism. Repent means to turn around. As I said, it is implied in believing. Of course, you don't have to know it all to be saved. Repentance is a work of The Holy Spirit and not a dirty word. It is fundamental and necessary to the Salvation miracle. I fear you are confusing people. What do you think?

    • @jacksonrelaxin3425

Repent just means to change your mind; this is why he wants EVERYONE to do it. You’re still living in sin and you always will be. Of course you can live a good, righteous life, but that doesn’t mean you’ll ever become perfect in this life on your own, and any attempt to do so for salvation is in vain and we are only saved by God’s grace through faith in His Son. That’s it. If you wanna turn from your sin, that’s awesome, but it will not save you and it will only spoil whatever evangelistic message you have for others. If you tell someone to “repent of their sins” or “turn from sin,” you’re just implying that that person needs to change according to your standard of justification, not God’s. Jesus literally said that all sins are forgiven by the shedding of His blood on the cross, so why would you tell anyone anything other than to simply believe in Him for salvation?

Believing into Christ is our faith in action through obedience, first of all by repentance. Repentance is an act of obedience we must choose to do after we believe.

You are pursuing faith alone but by denying repentance, you are actually unrealized not knowingly doing faith in Christ alone through self righteousness.

Faith is obedience to God's instructions displayed in action. If repentance was not a precondition, then why baptism was required?
What was the first message of Peter on the day of Pentecost?
Repentance was the main theme there. Even John the baptist began his ministry preaching repentance.

      Titus 3 Verses 5 to 7
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done (repent of our sins), but ACCORDING TO HIS MERCY HE SAVED US, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost,
6 Which he shed on us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Savior:
7 That being JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE, we should be made HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE HOPE OF ETERNAL LIFE.
We are justified by grace through faith not by our works of righteousness (repentance of our sins). Please make a note of this ♥️.
