He seemed a LOT happier when he was younger. I recently watched an interview with Zach from 2023 and he has seen some dark days mentally in recent years. He also stated in that 2023 interview that he hates to travel, which is ironic because his music not only wants to make me travel but his music offers so many obvious world influences. Every video I see of him when he is younger is in a different place completely enjoying life.
Know how some songs can take you back to an exact moment in time and place where you were feeling a certain way about a certain person and you feel all those feelings all over again? This song is so amazing.

My favorite thing about the line is that they use *you smile* instead of *your smile* . The implication brought by one letter difference is quite fascinating as *you smile* will mean broader situation, including the time and place of and how she smile. Beautiful it is. I'm glad I found this song from a Dutch short film "Sevilla". This song since then becomes my favorite song.
Lol wish I could say the same I was only a child 12 years ago must've been extraordinary to watch this video long ago to make it a memory but I'll probably be back 12 years later XD

I used to live on rue Oberkampf across the street from Place Vert and Nouveau Casino (building behind the artwork wall) when I was 18 and 19 (2009/2010). I had just graduated from high school and had spent the months leading up to moving to Paris as garbage man and parks & rec employee in the small city I grew up in. Talk about a change of scenery moving there... Beirut's music, this performance, that street, and those bars and restaurants were the backdrop for some of the best times in my life. So much hope and that unbelievable sense of freedom. I'm not sure I'll ever experience those feelings are purely as that time again, but I'm grateful for having ever felt them in the first place, and this performance always transports my soul back there.

5 years now since the first time a came here, this band has become one of my favorite bands ever. its been a long time now as its written in this momorable song.
I've been listening to Beirut for 16 years now. I remember studying abroad in Rome when I was younger and visiting my roommates cousin in Paris -- I made a point for us to find this cafe (La Place Verte, in Oberkampf). A week after, we flew to Dublin and I got to see Beirut, my favorite band, live for the first time. I love this video, I love this song, I love Beirut.
This feels as if they were playing just for you. It’s amazing. The slightly mismatched violin, the trumpets, the trash can drums...it’s just so intimate. It feels like they approached you and went “Hey, we got this new tune going on. Wanna hear it?
Heard it pretty soon after it came out and immediately fell in love with it. Originating from Balkans this sounded so familiar to me and the melancholia was a very comforting feeling to me. Now that i grew older and started collecting vinyl, one of my first discographies to buy were the Beirut albums. This makes me remember my late teen romantic relationships and almost makes me cry nowadays :)
quand j'entends cette voix, le temps s'arrete autour de moi, je reste petrifiée pour ressentir davantage les frissons qui parcour l'interieur de mon corps, les larmes me vient aux yeux, c'est d'une telle beauté....
