  • This month's free Washcloth of the Month Pattern features the Herringbone Double Crochet Stitch. This is a beginner friendly crochet stitch and can be worked with any number of chains.
    This stitch is perfect for all kinds of projects, from scarves and blankets to pot holders and washcloths.
    You can find the free written instructions to make the washcloth, and a photo tutorial in my post here:
    This quick video shows you how to make the stitch (which is almost the same as a double crochet stitch) - I did not include sound for this video because it really is that simple.
    How to Crochet the Herringbone Double Crochet Stitch
    Yarn over hook, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop and pull that same loop through the first loop on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the next loop on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on your hook.
    The yarn I am using was given to me by King Cole and it is called Big Value Recycled Dish Cloth Cotton - I think this green might be my favorite color! I'm using a 4 mm (G) Clover Amour Crochet Hook for the dishcloth.
    To make a 12x12 inch dishcloth with these supplies:
    R1: Ch 39, sk the first 3 chs (counts as 1 hbdc), 1 hbdc in each rem ch across. Turn. [37 hbdc]
    R2-R27: Ch 3 (counts as 1 hbdc), hbdc in each st across. Turn. [37 hbdc]
    Finish off and weave in ends.
    ch(s) = chain (s)
    hbdc = herringbone double crochet
    rem = remaining
    sk = skip
    st = stitch
    Have fun crocheting!
