The fact the guy rang other companies to bad mouth employee's so they couldn't get work elsewhere isn't just bad, it's fucking spiteful. He took the time to call ALL those companies just to make sure they couldn't leave when he could have been doing...well i dunno WHAT it is he should have been doing, but it's not that!
He's like the top brass of Konami condensed and reshaped into a primordial homunculus.

Well you want employee security dont you good way to get that is make sure they cant get work anywhere else it happens alot its honestly just buisness make it too easy to find better work they will so you make sure they dont get those opportunities otherwise you might end up with some new prick that is more likely to say something if they dont get paid on time or have to do extra hours you want to keep hold of the people that have no spine because they wont say anything to you if you need them to do anything (basically you want to make sure your people pleasers wont leave because they bend over backwards for a pay raise that they never ask for and if they do then you say they're under consideration) ethics has no place in buisness
I'm absolutely flabbergasted at this whole debacle, how can someone be this level of detached from game development reality.

I think the infamous Randall "Kid Diddler" Letcher Scott of 3DO DOOM fame still tops the short list of "people who know nothing about making a game yet somehow still managed to make deals within the game industry".
The dude described the process of making a game as the "creative people" staying up all night and "the eye candy elf doing his work".
I assume it is a situation similar to Nikola Motors and Theranos. The company leaders only had surface level knowledge in their field but offered platitudes and lies to get ahead.
@@AntonioCardenasT I legit can't think of something of his that hasn't been a disappointment since Black & White. The sheer amount of bullshit that would come out of his mouth has to hold some kind of record. I have vivid memories of Fable being hyped to hell and back only for it to be an incredibly average game that would have been more fondly remembered had Peter not acted as it was going to redefine gaming.
Crugliano's management style looks like it's straight from the typical "Italian small to medium sized company" mindset:
1: Employees are your property to use as you see fit
2: Lie through your teeth to the customers to get that job
3: pretend everything is ok

As a person who is planning to study Game Development at University in September, Grugliano sounds like an absolute disgrace in the game industry. Showcasing poor leadership, harassment, gross incompetence and taking what many people consider to be a cult classic, and just shove the remake through the front door to make a quick buck.
That’s my favourite thing about these videos. It gives the future developers of the world case studies on a project gone wrong which hopefully means a brighter future for gamedev in general

Worth it
The original XIII is cheap as hell on Steam already even when not on sale and is a million times worth it compared to the trash remake.
The original was given for free on gog sometime last year.

If any industry needs a union it’s the video game industry, the amount of overwork the studio employees can be subjected to is ridiculous
The unions long ago abandoned any pretense of defending workers' interests and now are just glorified HR firms who help enforce management's dictates. We're long past the time of unions, workers now need their own militant rank-and-file committees directly controlled by the workers themselves.

The unions are controlled by corrupt bureaucrats who make six-figure salaries for selling out workers, isolating and betraying strikes, and doing management's bidding. The most militant struggles that are taking place today are happening in rebellion *against* the right-wing union leadership, in worker-organized rank-and-file committees among autoworkers, parts workers, teachers, health care workers, etc.
It's one thing to have a leader who is incompetent, but still fully invested, and well-intentioned...
But it's something else entirely to have a leader who is a malicious, two-faced, self-serving con man.

What's even more sad is that if a bunch of people kept sending the xbox part of Microsoft emails about backwards compatibility I bet they easily would have got the ok from ubisoft to take the original game, tweak it, and then release it to the program. Now they've stopped the program. At least we got time splitters 2 and future perfect, max payne series, f,e.a,r series, etc, for one last update to the program. What's crazy is that system link still works for these old games. You can hook up an original xbox to a series x and play games together.

Bioshock infinite had a notoriously rough development. It would be a good one to cover.

@@JRyan56 tell me about it. I bought it day 1 and the season pass cause I figured it's bioshock, what could go wrong? Well, a barebones game with dlc that took a year to come out is what went wrong. Aside from red dead redemption 2, I haven't payed for a game at full price since. I've learned my lesson that anything could be a disappointment and with games being as broken and unfinished as they are these days, I'll never buy them til they're at least a year old - if ever.
Most overrated game ever was just a run of the mill shooter with racial tension felt like a m rated Disney film at times

The biggest shame of XIII was that it ended on a wetfart of a cliffhanger, and it would have been amazing if a remake could have actually added an ended
They actually were gonna plan a part 2 with the remake but because of all that happend it was just a pipe dream at this point like in 2003 also
The comic wasn't fully finished in 2003 the last album (without counting the "universe" albums about some characters and those not made by the original creator) was released in 2007.
You really don't want a sequel from this developer, look at Asterix and Obelix XXL 3
I feel so sorry for the people who work under that con artist.
The original will be forever one of my favorite games, the style and soundtrack is incredibly unique, and the story is engaging. It's a disgrace what they did with the remake, it killed any chance of ever getting a sequel, which was already very unlikely.
I never played the original. I got this one after hearing so much good about the old. How could it have gone so wrong, now I have some idea.

@@GGDizzy It's also amazing how well the original has aged. Every time footage from the old one is shown it looks great while the remake looks dull. And I say this as someone who has no nostalgic ties to the original.
XIII is one of those shooters that vanished once the game launched. But I found it and it was a fun time to beat.

God this hurts, the original game was a classic that I grew up with. The idea of a remake got me hyped but as soon as that in game trailer came out and the artstyle was revealed, I knew something was wrong....

Still, this guy sounds like a terrible boss and as I say people don't quit jobs they quit management. He doesn't delegate assignments and doesn't pay employees for work on time. That's not a good boss.
If they were actively going out of their way to take out the cool cel shaded style from thirteen, then releasing the original game in HD would've been the best and most logical choice considering how this remake actually turned out .
That would have required them to get all the assets of the original, which they didn't have, hence the work from the ground-up.

I bought this game for PC when it was new from Gamestop, in its full 3-cd glory. Never played it much or got very far, but it sure looked cool with Cel-Shading, that was still new at the time

They're remaking the remake with a completely different studio. Update will be coming in September for free along with the Switch release.
Was never able to beat the GameCube version. Auto saved with super low health before the final boss, so much so that even when I pick up the ONE health pack in the arena it's just enough to not get me one shot killed as soon as the battle starts.
I also sucked at shooters then so maybe I should revisit...

I’ve been hearing a lot about Skullgirls lately, so perhaps a Wha Happun on its troubled production throughout the years? I’ve recently picked it up and am blown away by it, I kick myself for waiting so long. Now I know why some suggest them for a new 2D Darkstalkers game!

that studio def. deserves it. Pppl think the first domino of Konami turning evil was w/ Kojima. Nope, Skullgirls got screwed by them first. And their history continues. They did get a happy ending at least.
Honestly, both need an episode, but Skullgirls' refusal to die despite everything and still succeeding is tailor made for this show. Hell, Matt has covered so many fighting games that I'm surprised that it doesn't have an episode yet.

I think the best thing about this remaster is the fact more people will learn how good the original game was and give it the respect it deserves. At least more so than the remaster

Wish you would do New Gundam Breaker, but it is super niche. Still, want to know why exactly they actively chose to absolutely demolish their own momentum, throw out all of their old code, and intentionally remove everything that made the prior 3 games so great.

A wha happun episode on Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice would be cool. The scrapped ideas, Capcom's constant insistence that Phoenix Wright should get more and more screen time, to the point where Pheonix gets more backstory in this than the character in the damn title, and Sku Takumi, the creator of the Ace Attorney franchise, leaving the main series after Apollo Justice.

Giuseppe sounds like an accountancy boss I had once. He talked a BS game too, in fact I learned before I left that he didn't even have an accountancy qualification. He just basically blagged client after client, paid to have his company top of the google searches, and generally took people's money while giving them a basic service they could have done themselves with 30minutes of searches on the internet. I think he's still operating today. Seems it's pretty much the way of the world in he who sells himself, wins, regardless of whether what he sells is anything at all.
I know it was only 3 weeks, but damn did I miss this show and it's endless plethora of Simpsons references.
I remember seeing the original everywhere in magazines back in my day, and I recall many people loving it. Never got into it because itse genre ain't my preference, but it was still to nice people like. To think that It'd be back with a remake that went through all of this... Man. Sad for the fans of the original.

As soon as I hear devs using "meet our qualities standards" in apologies, I just wince and a lot of [X] DOUBT plays in my head. This does struck a nerve everytime that happens.
I remember that one press release for the IRL Nuka Dark drink, where the company handling it announced a delay and that the reason was the bottle "not meeting Fallout standards".
For the drink that was timed as a promotion for Fallout 76.

You want the definitive version of XIII? Buy the GOG version. Simple. No bugs, no DRM, no bullshit. Just the game made to run on newer operating systems out of the box.

The worst part is XIII sounds like such a fun game, and I'd like to try it, except this happened. How can one man be so detached from reality, detached from the reality of game development?
Fortunately, the original can be purchased on Steam and GOG quite cheaply.
You'd be surprised just how much worse it can get. Go check out the development of the 3DO port of Doom and your mouth will be agape in horror at some of the things the CEO believed you could do.

Great vid again, but also you did a good job with the sponsoring, you gave it the right tone of light hearted humor and presentation. I know paid promotions are a reality, and sometimes it can deter some people when the youtuber may try to be too exaggerated with the product or mutter the sponserreally fast to shoo them out of the way, but you did a good job here.
This is the first time I’ve seen Matt in the flesh and it’s enthralling to see him as a not-skeleton.

I remember getting this heavily discounted on PS4 and within three minutes it crashed on me, which I've never experienced with any title I've ever played. I'm honestly wary with anything that Microids or Pendulo are also attached with, seeing as how the Blacksad title, which I never got to finish due to constant crashes also was released with tons of bugs, even gamebreaking ones with patches not able to resolve some of the major issues even up to a year after release. With Vertigo by the same developer and publisher, I hope they improve greatly because it's completely unaccaptable to release final products in the state that they were in.

This is really sad considering Microids' other projects based on French and Belgian comics like the Asterix games show that they can do so much better. They just picked up the Garfield licence as well for 3 games
I wouldn't say that given their Asterix XXL remasters are also pretty broken compared to the originals and those had the benefit of their entire source code and assets being preserved yet still managed to mess them up somehow.

The Asterix games are pretty bad and another case of absolute mismanagement. The XXL2 Remaster was done in five months with a prototype version of the original game, meaning lots of assets were missing and tons of bugs had to be fixed that had actually be ironed out in the 2004 release, all done by a tiny studio with no own graphics department. The result is a buggy game with terrible special effects and a bland UI, sold for no less than 100$ in a cheaply made collector's edition. Then, that same team worked on XXL3 with a budget not even nearly enough to create a game following the XXL formula. The whole game was a scam from the start, only having "XXL" in the title to make a quick buck from the nostalgia of old fans. Then, XXL1 Romastered happened, which seemed rather promising in the beginning, but ultimately failed due to a complete lack of knowledge in game design and hundreds of new bugs being added, even though this time they had the full source code of the perfectly working PS2 release! I still can't wrap my head around what happened there. Even though the game was QA tested, the devs either ignored or didn't have the time to fix the bugs reported. After all, they also had to work on the new Smurf game at the same time. The release version was a debacle, with music never looping, the combo system broken and visual glitches everywhere. At least for this game, they fixed the majority of bugs over the course of a year, but many glitches as well as awful design choices remain. Sorry for this long rant, this is just to show that this is a rather common thing with Microids.
Sadly microids ain't so innocent either they too havea history of cheap games and developing
@@Failentin Dude I knew there was something very wrong with the XXL remasters just from playing them but I didn't know just how cheap and awful the development was, holy crap, is there somewhere else I can actually read more about this? XXL 2 for all its jank and inferior graphics (they couldn't even scale the FMVs properly, they play in a tiny letterbox like it's a DOS game) at least wasn't all that buggy in my experience (game crashed on me only once) but 1 was an absolute trainwreck (game pre-patch had a memory leak so bad the already terrible framerate eventually went down to single digit) and 3 I could see from a mile away was a disgrace and of course like you said all sold for a ridiculously inflated price. Screw Microids
I think the press confused Aspyr with Disney because Wideload Games (the studio that made Stubbs) got bought out by Disney in 2009

I am once again asking for your Wha Happun on Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition, two games that were polar opposites in terms of initial reception and later evaluation yet also linked by similar problems that would wind up irreversibly impacting the future of BioWare, its developers, its writers, and its other talents. Not to mention how drastic some of the cut content and planned plot differs from the main game with things like DA2 trying and failing to set up Hawke as a central protagonist to the PAX Prime demo for DAI having a LOT of material that didn't make it into the final version.
I remember being excited when they announced the remaster back in 2019, I had completely forgotten about it and didn't even know it released, I'm just now finding everything out after watching this video
