I had no idea they came out with a membrane, thanks!

I am doing curbless with Wedi and Ditra XL which matched up perfectly because the thinset on the 1 inch pan is just a little thicker. Ready to install the subliner dry out 3 feet as Wedi recommends and apparently hydro blok doesn’t, but the banding on the wall out further seems senseless since there is a door at about the end of the 3 feet. There is a seam of ditra like yours, looks like you waterproofed with sealant?

Yep same concept 👍 Hydroblok has a mesh tape to reinforce the corner joints and curbless transition

Started watching your channel about 2 weeks ago, need some help bad, I'm looking for a steel shower pan/base. only thing I find even close is the cast iron made by Kohler. I want something durable that will last. left side drain. thank you in advance Larry.

    Hi
I'm just wondering why, as you've stated it's your favourite backer board, you don't use Go Board on all your installations?
Why this particular type of board this time?
    Thanks

No itch, more rigid, has a complete lifetime warranty, also has all other components to ensure a complete waterproof system. Go board is great, just not as good IMO. But at the end of the day it does the same thing, waterproofing under tile 👍

Could you just recess the shower subfloor another 1/4” so you don’t have to build up the existing bathroom subfloor?

Technically yes, but would have to be approved by an engineer, especially with engineered trusses or joists. I’m sure 1/4” would not be a big deal….but liability wise it’s not worth it as a contractor

Is it acceptable to recess the floor for curbless if you have engineered joists? That’s what I have and am afraid to try that and potentially compromise the structure

That’s what these systems are really designed for. Older homes tend to have thicker subfloors that provide plenty of depth. You can do exactly this method to recess plywood in shower area and create a curbless entrance 👍

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacherthanks! But with the engineered joists the tongue and groove OSB on top is part of the structure. Are you saying the recessed floor plus shower tray takes care of that? Also not sure how to attach the frame to the I beams.

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacherafter some research for recessing I beam joists (TLI): you need to add web stiffeners or you can buy special hangers specifically designed for the 2x4 frame from Ebbe. I think I will go with the hangars. Any preference on shower tray? Tile redi seems the easiest.

@@marktroia yeah web stiffener is nothing more than additional plywood to fill and fur out the joist. But I agree ebbe hangers are awesome 🤩 And it ultimately depends on the project. If you need to cut down or modify a shower pan Hydroblok is easier IMO.
