    I had this installed last summer. A few things:
    1) Definitely not a one man job, the shower pan is especially heavy
    2) the fake marble print on mine has started to fade into this purple tone in some spots
    3) be very careful what kind of caulk you use - the contractor I hired used the wrong type of caulk and now it's all yellow
    4) even though the shower walls are 7 feet high, water will still get on the painted wall above the shower walls

    •  3 месяца назад +1

      You should have treated the shower pan and walls with Miracle Stone Impregnator.
      The caulk should have been clear, 100% silicone and it wouldn’t turn yellow.
      The painted wall above the 7’ panel, that seam should also get a line of caulk at the top of the Castico wall where it meets the painted wall.
      👍

    Hi Winni, loving your content, i've been following for a few years now and i find you're closer to how i do things than most youtuber so it's kind of self approving to be watching your stuff.
    With that said, i think there might be a flaw with the way you waterproofed. You installed a 6 inch band where the pan meets the floor but if the water ever find its way to that band and continue to flow down, then it will find the lowered substrate and root the OSBs. I think in this case you would have to put a kerdi-like membrane under the pan with corners and band all around just like you did. Anyway let me know what you think, i am curious to have your opinion on this, cheers.

    • @WINNI.Designs
      @WINNI.Designs  Год назад

      For me it was very important to make sure I use all epoxy grout and silicone sealant. Also I think pictching that front tile into the shower was very important. At the time this is the problem with most Curbless showers. Personally I have good confidence in this install, but it’s my first one like this. So we will see! Either way if we did more waterproofing around it would still make it’s way to the bottom of the drain.

    • @giannizhivago3373

  • @LovejoyBuild

    I’m curious to what they’re warranty is. Seams like a budget friendly option. Also trusting that silicone will keep water from migrating underneath the pan is what keeps me skeptical

    • @giannizhivago3373
      @giannizhivago3373 Год назад +1

      not to mention that green drywall is not even close to being a waterproof membrane.t barely qualifies as water resistant.

    • @giannizhivago3373
      @giannizhivago3373 Год назад

      if you watch the Castico installation video you will see several silicone applications that were skipped or not filmed by Winni. The use of drywall by both Winni and Castico as a "waterproof" layer is without any foundation and completely forbidden under TCNA regs. and by most construction codes.

      I wouldn't even call it backerboard since that's the term they use for cementous fiberboard, I refer to it just as green board/sheetrock and that thing grows mold and mildew almost the same as regular sheetrock. Personally I think without waterproofing membrane on top it might require demolition sooner than later.

      Yeah , why is there no waterproofing band behind the seam down the middle?? Why bother with the horizontal band halfway up, where most of it is behind solid panel, if you aren't going to do the vertical seam. I didn't even see any caulking get put in between or behind (he did put some on afterwards, but how much could get into such a small gap?) . That aint right!

    Like all quick shower systems the drain doesn't meet code. It requires a 2 " drain. The tub has an 1 1/2 drain. The walls are not watertight and require a membrane on all the greenboard.

    • @rabbytca
      @rabbytca Месяц назад +2

      Which building code would that be? Mine says one shower head = 1 1/2" drain.
      Why are the comments saying greenboard? Unless there is something very wrong with the colour gamut on my laptop, the wall board is as grey as their shirts and looks very much like Georgia Pacific's Denshield tile backer and those solid plastic sheets are about as waterproof as one can get.
