Oh they’re playing with 25cal for sure. One of the H shooters was rocking a 25creed with no head stamp brass doing load dev for them at a match I shot a few months back when the 134 dropped
I was going back and forth about building a Valkyrie, but I never saw the .22 ARC happening. With Hornady introducing this….. I think the Valkyrie is doomed to fade into obscurity. Kinda like the .338 Federal. Super pumped about the new ARC. I think it’ll do everything I’m wanting it to do.
I agree. The .338 Federal was supposed to be a hot-rodded .308 but it never went as far as even the 7 mm - 08 (sometimes called 308 lite.) .224 Valkyrie just never checked enough boxes for people who could already do what they needed with .22-250 Rem. But just the numbers show that the .22 ARC is going to do everything that the previous renditions did but with greater accuracy. Just like 7 PRC is what the 7 RM might fear.
I have a 224 valk, haven't shot it yet, but I got it to use longer and heavier bullets as a reloader. Kinda just for fun, don't even need it for anything. I think half of all customers for these cartridges never get around to using them for their design
I'm super pumped about it. I'll do what I did with 6 ARC, start buying ammo as soon as I start seeing it and build a decent stash then by the time I get a upper (or in this case get a barrel and put it in a upper) I'll be ready to hit the range and as I burn through the factory ammo I'll have cases for handloading. I shoot PRS and the 6 ARC has done well for me BUT the only downside is exactly what was mentioned, using extruded powders (Varget or the 100 series of vihtavouri) you'll give up some velocity but like you I'll give some up to have ammo I know is going to be consistent through temp swings. My hope with 22 ARC is to be able to use the heavy high bc bullets and still have very good velocity. If a 85-90gr bullet could be pushed to say, 2800-2850 fps out of a gas gun using extruded powder that would be phenomenal! Of course I run 24" barrels so I hope it's feasible. Was going to build a 6 gt ar10 but I'll hold off. Switching to a 6 dasher bolt gun next year just for fun and hopefully that gives me all of 2024 and winter/spring of 2025 to really nail down the pros/cons of 22 ARC handloading.
Will it have the same problems as the 224 valkyrie? Stabilizing the heavy projectiles... was the only caliber JP rifles would not guarantee 1 moa. Twist should be faster than 1-7?
I run the 88 in a 223ai with a 1:7 twist and they stabalize just fine. My velocities are in the 2750 range with a 26" barrel so not being driven hard. At 2800fps it should be a non issue.
So I'm not an AR-15 fan so bolt guns considered......22 Creedmoor or 22 ARC? Maybe this gets me started in the ARs as well, just have to see what happens.
What is the impact of changing the bolt face size? Would the 6 arc and 22 arc be better if they were formed on 350 legend brass and could use a standard full strength bolt in an ar15?
The whole ARC line is interesting and I’m here for it. I’d like to see the development go both ways a 17arc would be cool but I’m also interested in trying to optimize a little larger projectile to work in AR’s or the micro action bolt guns
I am curious to why Savage and Howa didn't jump in as well. Looked on Hornady website and they were not listed. Can't wait to see what your statistics are when you get to start testing this caliber.
Does Savage or Howa make AR barrels? Because this was specifically made for the AR15. It'll take a bolt gun company to take the plunge before others to jump on board.
I don't understand why they keep choking grendel based cartridges to 2.260" cartridge overall length. No one makes plastic mags for grendel. Dura mags have 2.310" inside dimension. I have had zero issues with 6 ARC loaded to 2.290" . We also need a new AR15 upper that allows for a beefier bolt so we can get 58-60k PSI out of grendel cartridges
Bet those high bc bullets are gonna be a pain in the ass to get to shoot. Low bearing surface has to be alot of air gap in front of the lead. Probably will need a seating stem to not crush the walls in while seating
Next build will be 22Arc will likely build a bolt gun as well. I have been considering building a 6cm but with that new 100gr eld vt I may stick with the 6.5cm if it performs like they claim.
I’m a believer of improved cartridge design, Butt…..I’ll believe the hype when I see the selves overflowing with product. Disclaimer…. @@stevenbradley2245 I’ve yet to lose a pocket on Hornady brass. Most people on the Grendel Forum report 7-12 loads with Hornady. I’m loading 123gr A-MAX, SST, or ELD-M on 31.2gr of CFE223 and have done so since 2014 with that powder. I get 2490-2519fps between my 17.6” Lilja and 18” LaRue carbines, 15ft from the muzzle with that load. What powder are you using and what load?
I’m generally using 8208xbr and ArComp. Around 26.4-26.8 grains of either of those powders. The numbers are great. I’m just not getting great brass life.
I've done a test in the 223 with temp stability. Xterminator (made in Canada lot) was found to be more stable than everything tested save for AR Comp and the Xtreme powders. It was more stable than VV stuff as well, and likely more stable than most of the IMR extruded stuff suitable for the 223. So it's fudd lore to simply assume all ball powders suck with temp stability.
Yeah there are good and bad ball powders just like good and bad extruded powders(RL-17, PP2000, Hybrid 100V). I’ve had great luck with Hunter in 30-06 and I’m pretty sure black hills uses Tac in 308. It’s like anything. Match the tool to the job and it usually works as advertised.
We just built the most reliable 22 ARC on the AR15 platform. It's almost done field testing now.. but 6mm is already probably done. 22 ARC, new hybrid round out there. Our barrel MFG is a hornady partner and perfected the chamber and has a beautiful rifling. Reach out if you want to do a review on the 22 ARC
Have you had any success with the 22 ARC yet? I am wondering the damage on coyotes compared to the 22 Creedmoor? I know a lot of it depends on shot placement but for normal heart shot does it blow it up?
I still shoot a 22-250, but it has a 1-8 twist barrel with 77gr bullets............... it's all I need and will be around for years, not sure about the ARC !!
Excited about the 22 Arc and its potential in the AR platform, but I do love my valkyrie. Good thing is I can reload for both with the same or very similar bullets. I really want to see how that new VT shoots in a 18-22 inch valkyrie barrel and see if it is worth keeping around or saving for a rainy day and trying out the 22arc and the new ammo offerings.
I want to know what the bullet is going to do to coyote fur. And you have to get new bolts for the old 700 action. But it' s rather easy for the gas guns.
Hay guys love your podcast , idea for a 12min talk : could y'all please check out KAK's .17-5.56 they cam out with . .17cal that used 5.56 brass , apparently it's going to put preform.17rem along with just being less of a pain in the ass to load for . If y'all could look them up and do a video on y'all's thoughts I'd really appreciate and I think everyone would find it really interesting. Keep up the good work !!
17-223 has been a wildcat for a while, but like the .17 Rem it's extremely overbore from what I understand. I personally think the .17 hornet is the sweet spot with .17 rem being a more custom rifle and longer range shooter.
6 arc with 110 a-tip or 110smk achieve extremely similar ballistics to the 88gr 22 arc with more energy on target, I’m sticking with the 6 arc because it really doesn’t offer much more that I don’t have. The 6 arc with a 103 with .51 is gonna be better hunting hogs than a 62 with a .4 bc
@@MrBoostin18 a 110 smk at 2500 FPS vs an 88 eldm at 2680 (16” barrel vs 24 so -200fps) and at 1000 yards 6 arc drops 37.7moa and 22 arc drops 34.3moa, energy at 400 with 103gr @ 2550 is 832 FT-LB and 62gr eld vt at 3100 (-200 for 16”) has 673 FT-LB at 400 so I think they are close enough where I still prefer more energy on target
I'm a coyote hunter. Had a 224 val but rebarreled it in 6.5 grendel. I cant wait to get my hands on a 22 ARC. I use gas guns only with thermal and it works for me. 22 ARC should be a great upgrade for me.
The 22ARC looks fantastic for the specific use cases it was designed for. That ELD-VT..... calling it a "match" bullet is a STRETCH. Little bastard gets bullied by the wind. What I am curious about is your thoughts on this 6MAX thing SOLGW is pushing.
You need a 2.300" COL magazine for 6mm Max, which is still in development. It means many magazine wells will be a bit tight for it due to variances in internal clearance in AR-15 lower receivers.
I can't get CMMG to answer my messages about making Power Bolt ARs in 6ARC and 22ARC. They are missing out... If you don't know what that is go watch the Ultimate Reloaders feature of the 6.5Gren Resolute w/Power Bolt. Pretty sure you could run bolt action pressures with those.
The valkyrie is fucked lol never really seen it taking off in the first place. BTW I simp hard for yall lol yall are the shit! Always looking forward to seeing yalls videos
At my age (young Gen X) and firearm purchasing arc (see what I did there?), I am basically done buying new rifles for new cartridges. Can your new cartridge optimize ballistics, with higher coefficients and less bullet drop? Probably. Can I do the exact same thing I have been doing with what I already own, probably cheaper with better cartridge availability? Definitely. Do I need a high volume varmint platform? I don’t but if I do, .223 still works.
The 22 ARC sounds good but I'll stick with my 22 Creed and my 6 ARC bolt guns. My 6 ARC is DPG build and it shoots great. My 22 Creed I built myself and it also shoots great especially with the 75 grain ELD-M
You're the first one I've seen that actually gets it. The 6 was for sending the heavy, high bc projectiles out to a 1k+ out of an AR, the 22 isn't going to do that. It is perfect though for those that want a high velocity, light weight laser out to 5-800.
I know it will be awhile, but I can’t wait for you to do a barrel length video for the 22 ARC. I wish I had been subscribed to your channel before I built my 6 ARC. I went with a 22” barrel planning on using it as a deer gun for 500-600 and in, then of course I see your video and the performance you were getting out of your 14.5” barrel. I was in the process of building another 6 ARC (which I still may do) when they announced the 22 ARC. If the 22 performs as advertised, I will stop using the 6mm for night hunting and make it solely a deer gun. Great video either way, thanks for the content
I’m getting 2960 with 70 grain blitzkings in 6 arc with 16” proof AR. Most coyote shots in west Texas are 300 and in. I’m not sure what this is an improvement on for varmint hunting. Past that maybe it’ll be better for target shooting but most prs shooters like 6mm because you can see miss splashes better than the 88’s in the 22. Id figure about 30 fps loss per inch from hornadys 24” down to 16”. Most likely 240 FPS loss at 16”.
From a bolt standpoint .22 ARC is just another round slower than .223 WSSM. From the standpoint of an AR it's just another option more expensive to shoot than 5.56 and .223 Remington.
Just about reached the 13 minute mark. Should I go watch the Hornady podcast? Found another guy talking trash on the 22 Arc. Seems he’s located in his garage and I trust his opinion. 😅
223 with a 62 gr is only 150 fps slower according to nosler load data(I know the eld vt will be too long for effective use in 223) but still kinda just doesn't seem like enough of a boost to warrent a new rifle other than for long range target shooting. Like shooting yotes 200 yds aren't going to be any deader.
As far as releasing a new product when things are hard to get... This thing has been in development for over a decade. At some point they need to release and honestly...i think they have several things waiting to be released and they prolly chose one that won't take a huge amount of fabrication while things are still so strained.
22 creed or 22 arc or 22-250 what do u need the round for is the ?. But look we can do this simple and old 7mm 270 243 223 22lr. If u can't get it with those rounds ur chaing ghost.
Anything of 224 diameter with more powder capacity than the 223 really should be facing an obsolete status. Any study on the 243/6mm cartridges and the versatile bullet weights shows them to be superior. An example would be 55 grain bullets in the 243 Winchester for varmints. Change bullet weights and you have a more capable cartridge for deer and in some states a legal deer round. Check out the BC on the 243 55 grain bullets vs the 55 grain 22 250 bullets.
Why do people always forget about the 22 nosler in an AR platform!? I have one and its an amazing rifle! Guarantee that the 22 nosler will outrun a 22arc
Its also is hard to get excited about a new cartridge, when availability of said new cartridge is iffy at best. For example, the fudd-tastic straight wall cartridges( legal in upper midwest for deer hunting) come to mind. 450 bushmaster, then 350 legend, then 360 buckhammer, then 400 legend. All were released in a underwhelming way. Lets hope the 22 arc will be released differently.
The 22-250 isn’t going anywhere …. Ever , and to suggest it might is silly Just like the short mag era this to shall pass , and the 250 will keep selling
Except quality brass for the 22-250 is nonexistent and overall support has been dying the past couple decades. There hasn’t been any on the shelf locally in a few years now.
Am I the only one that still likes speed demon laser beam cartridges? I get the need for a 22-250 replacement, but this ain’t it. 22 Creed is a lot more exciting to me personally.
Well until Russia’s war ends, forget about cheap Russian ammo and even when that happens, inflation will have an effect too. It will come down in price but forget about pre Covid prices. Those days are done.
There’s 2 offerings for 6 arc now another one coming after how many years. You say there’s a ton of 6 arc out there. Does everyone want those two offerings for varmint hunting? So the ammo offered maybe available but the amount offered is only 2. 30$ a box ammo is not going to be a high volume shooting cartridge over 223 and others. I like new cartridges but you have to get industry support from others before it is going to last. The 22-250 has a lot more support and I don’t think it will be going anywhere soon since you also said you can match that performance with the Valkyrie and then said it’s almost dead 🤷🏽♂️
when all gun manufacturers make the calibre, then it might be considered, but even with the ruger 204, gun manufactuerers have dropped this calibre, sako and tikka for instance, and others yet the 22-250 is offered by many, so chasing the newest and greatest can lead to issue over time, and while many will build a rifle to suit, many can not afford to build a rifle like that. perfect example is the 22wssm ruger/browning pretty much, so i guess after 20 + years then you can say its a standard, other than that its going to be replace by the next newest and greatest
I love the 22ARC, but like they said on the Hornady Podcast, it's a great cartridge for the Eastern states, I live in Idaho and we deal with a lot of wind, and the 6ARC performs better at distance with wind, that and I have four of them🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸
The 90 grain amax in a 224 has a bc of 585. Moving 2800 fps roughly. If you shoot the 103 eldx in 6mm arc it has a bc of 512. and is moving around 2800 fps. Or you could shoot the 108 grain eldm with a bc of 536 at 2750. The 22 arc will actually do better in the wind.
22 arc is interesting but the 250 is still king of varmint hunting. 200 yrd zero I am dead on to 300, when it comes to hitting small critters at range the less you have to worry about hold over the better. 22 arc seems to come on at extended ranges, 700+ yrds. But be interesting what a custom 250 fast twist 70 80+ gr projectiles would compare to the arc, my bet is it would be close.
It’s cool but it’s definitely not throw away your 22-250 good. If wade/hornady have their way, u will have a gun for every slight diff in application and buy more ammo/reloading components. A 22-250 or 223 will do 95% of what it does, u a pro pelt hunter or do varmint control for farmers? Maybe if it’s a tax write off then upgrade.
I have a 6 ARC. I was seriously thinking about getting a 22 ARC until I saw the price of the ammo. For the same bullet, ELD VT, the 22 was three dollars more, WTF! Unless Hornady lowers the price of the 22 ARC, I will stick with my 6 ARC. I want to shoot the 22, but only if it's cheaper.
Artillery, mortars, tanks, and machineguns cut down soldiers in the world wars. In WWII, airpower stepped up into the amount of ordnance that could be dropped on people and structures. Small arms could have been any centerfire rifle chamberings and we still would have won. .276 Pedersen would have been superior due to 10rd en bloc clips and a lighter Garand.

Will we see the 62gr VT in a valkyrie offering or do you think they will put all of the focus onto 22 arc and let the Valkyrie die out?
Hard to say, they’ll no doubt focus on 22 arc first , but if the Valkyrie hangs in there , I figure they will slap it in there.
Have you shot the Ruger gen ll Bolt ? If so what’s your thoughts ?
Howa mini action in 22ARC?
Its a good AR cartridge, but the 22-250 isnt going anywhere, its still the better hunting round.
Not that .22 CM has taken off but will this be R.I.P for that round as well?
6 arc with 110 a-tip or 110smk achieve extremely similar ballistics to the 88gr 22 arc with more energy on target, I’m sticking with the 6 arc because it really doesn’t offer much more that I don’t have. The 6 arc with a 103 with .51 is gonna be better hunting hogs than a 62 with a .4 bc
No it doesn’t. A 6arc in gas gun is hella handicapped by pressure.
@@ai347 anyone running a 6mm at 2500fps is and idiot. 2700fps or i don’t run that projectile or powder.
I want to see they make something with their new 134gr 25 cal bullet
25 creed or prc
@@806Guns I have a 25 creed but they don’t have anything else for it.
I'm a coyote hunter. Had a 224 val but rebarreled it in 6.5 grendel. I cant wait to get my hands on a 22 ARC. I use gas guns only with thermal and it works for me. 22 ARC should be a great upgrade for me.
I dont care my 22-250 does everything I need it to,and I am set up for it not going to change.i will say I love my 6 mm arc also
I learneded abot 2 new cartridges today, 22arc and 20-250
Talk to Eagle Eye Shooting. His development is why your talking about it. He's on RUclips
204 arc
Apparently there’s a 6max cartridge now, maybe they’ll take it on?
The 22ARC looks fantastic for the specific use cases it was designed for. That ELD-VT..... calling it a "match" bullet is a STRETCH. Little bastard gets bullied by the wind. What I am curious about is your thoughts on this 6MAX thing SOLGW is pushing.
You need a 2.300" COL magazine for 6mm Max, which is still in development. It means many magazine wells will be a bit tight for it due to variances in internal clearance in AR-15 lower receivers.
Ill keep my 250
I can't get CMMG to answer my messages about making Power Bolt ARs in 6ARC and 22ARC.
So everyone whose loading light 6mm ARC will jump to the new 22 ARC an those of who like the heavier side of ARC will be able to find more ammo.
You're the first one I've seen that actually gets it. The 6 was for sending the heavy, high bc projectiles out to a 1k+ out of an AR, the 22 isn't going to do that.
It is perfect though for those that want a high velocity, light weight laser out to 5-800.
Beat length for the 22 arc??????
Saw a chronograph video today of guy shooting 22 arc factory ammo all three offerings, and was within 50fps of box velocity with a 20 in. Bbl.
How will 22 creedmoor and 22 arc compare
.204 caliber ARC next?
Maybe if this takes off I can find 22-250 on the shelf
As someone who struggled with 224 valkyrie, I'm glad hornady decided to release the 22 arc
Agree.
Still need more manufacurers of the 6 arc. waiting for the varmint grenades to be in a factory loading. for both these calibers. come on barnes!
Apparently black hills makes 6mm ARC ammo. I had read articles saying peterson was going too make brass but haven't seen that happen yet.
I have the 6.5 Grendel. I'll be skipping the 6arc and going straight to the 22 arc for my next upper.
Hornady is a pro at drumming up their own fanfare
22arc vs 6mm arc for hogs?
Can answer that already, 6 arc
So my question, why would you want this round over the 22 Nosler? 22 nosler is just a barrel swap in your ar
I keep saying this but no one is mentioning it anywhere. It's all bullshit over the 22 nosler. It will keep right up with the arc if not beat it
The 22-250 isn’t going anywhere …. Ever , and to suggest it might is silly
Just like the short mag era this to shall pass , and the 250 will keep selling
Except quality brass for the 22-250 is nonexistent and overall support has been dying the past couple decades. There hasn’t been any on the shelf locally in a few years now.
Am I the only one that still likes speed demon laser beam cartridges? I get the need for a 22-250 replacement, but this ain’t it. 22 Creed is a lot more exciting to me personally.
Another great cartridge there will be no ammo for!!!
the 22dpc has been wild cat for months
22 AR has been around for at least 14 years. 6.5 Grendel is 20 years old now.
CAN WE FOCUS ON PRODUCING MORE OF THE STANDARD AMMOS AND BRING THE PRICE DOWN. COOL ROUNDS THOUGH!
6ARC is quite available just not inexpensive.
when all gun manufacturers make the calibre, then it might be considered, but even with the ruger 204, gun manufactuerers have dropped this calibre, sako and tikka for instance, and others
yet the 22-250 is offered by many, so chasing the newest and greatest can lead to issue over time, and while many will build a rifle to suit, many can not afford to build a rifle like that.
perfect example is the 22wssm ruger/browning pretty much, so i guess after 20 + years then you can say its a standard, other than that its going to be replace by the next newest and greatest
I do t know where you get your weather information but it is windy AF in Maine.
I think it's hilarious that people expect ammo makers to produce more ammo so they decrease demand, and then charge less for it.
Best thing about New 22 ARC is the case is full Grendel length we’re the 6 ARC uses a tad shorter case!
22 creedmoor for 700 yards
Sounds sweet!
That thumbnail!! 😂
😂
It's a complete joke
!Awesome!
The Hornady podcasts are excellent, people should check them out
I'm getting a Sgt of Arms as soon as i can.
This has peaked my interested. Already listened to the Hornady podcasts around this.
I will stick with my 556x42 and 6x6.8 wildcats and keep my 22/250...
I dont have a 22-250 so the 22 arc is a strong contender for my $ . I was actually expectind a 22 prc. Same diff i guess.
Just here for the gun amish tear comments . Great video guys .. Please stop breaking the boomers hearts fellas ..
6 ArC case is shorter than 22 ARC case that’s what am meaning in the text below
Compare the 22-250 CM with fast twist with the 22 ARC.
Well, .30-06 won two world wars, back to back, so I don't understand why we need all this new fangled fancy boy stuff. It'll do anything ya ask it to.
😂
Facetious, yet correct
I carry a 45acp because they dont make a 46 acp
Ok boomer
Artillery, mortars, tanks, and machineguns cut down soldiers in the world wars. In WWII, airpower stepped up into the amount of ordnance that could be dropped on people and structures.
Small arms could have been any centerfire rifle chamberings and we still would have won.
.276 Pedersen would have been superior due to 10rd en bloc clips and a lighter Garand.
