    9:41 Well, supposedly the only reason why fossil pokemon have the rock type is because they came from fossils, so maybe Kabutops' original typing was water/bug. And when Team plasma altered it, it got the steel typing due to the armor and modifications it got.

    • @panini9900
      @panini9900 8 лет назад +22

      +Fullmetal Kirby7 This always stuck out in my mind; I always knew that kabutops was at least a bug, but before I realized that all fossil pokemon are rock, I thought that kabutops was steel because he always has that presumably metal plate on his chest, and in the anime, when Pikachu shocked it, it reacted kind of like a metal. So say kabutops was already a bug/steel and all that happened was a change of appearance and abilities. think about how all dual type pokemon usually always gain a type or keep the same types, so this rule might apply to genesect and kabutops.

    • @user-yr8vj8re5b
      @user-yr8vj8re5b 8 лет назад +3

      Yea I guess that could make sense, but Kabutops could of also been a fighting-type at one point.

    • @soldierofkazus
      @soldierofkazus 8 лет назад +11

      +Fullmetal Kirby7 In fact I'd say if you make the connection between Genesect and Kabutops, you are almost forced to conclude that its original typing was Water/Bug-and from there, I would further posit that it is an ancestor of Scyther, as another bug-type that possesses mantis-like claws and bipedal anatomy.

    • @koolaidkirby7977
      @koolaidkirby7977 8 лет назад +8

      Steampunk Papercut Wow... I didnt realize Kabutops could be a ancestor to Scyther! Also, when you look at Scizor and Genesect, and think about how they came to be, there are even more similarities.

    so clamperl can only make one pearl, but its head is a pearl, so when a spoink takes it, clamperl dies. so now you have an empty shell. a gastly possess that shell making it a shellder which can evolve into a cloyster (cloyster and gastly even have the same shiny coloration.) which if the shellder bites a slowpoke's head, the pokedex states that toxins seep into its brain, but shellder isnt a poison type. gastly however is.

    Little late and out of place, but I found another interesting detail regarding the Cubone-Kangaskhan relationship: in Pokemon Sun/Moon/US/UM, if a Cubone calls for help, there is a rare chance for a Kangaskhan appearing as battle ally for Cubone. Note, Cubone is the only Pokemon in Gen 7 that can even call a Kangaskhan in an SOS battle. Assuming that Kangaskhan isn't a natural predator of Cubone, this would also underline their relationship.
    Another fun detail regarding relationships between the Voltorb and Haunter lines is the visual resemblance of Electrode and Gengar. They have similar eye-shapes and develop a big, evil-looking smile.

  • @courtneytobio642
    @courtneytobio642 10 лет назад +24

    There's also a theory that Cubone is some sort of Charmander that suffers from a natural genetic mutation caused by the winged form of the final evolution, Charizard, which could explain the spikes. These Charmanders also manage to survive without a lit tail, but are still abandoned in some sort of Charizard graveyard, where the abandoned babies resort to cannibalism to survive and use the skulls as shelter until they grow larger and use the shells for head wear and a bone as a weapon. This theory is also supported by the fact that the skull on Cubone looks more like a Charizard's head. A Kangaskahn skull would be more dome-shaped.

    • @Kalificus
      @Kalificus 10 лет назад +2

      This is immediately destroyed by the fact the pokedex says Cubone wear's the skull of it's mother...

    • @courtneytobio642
      @courtneytobio642 10 лет назад +7

      Kalificus
      Maybe they just assumed it was the mother's skull by how much it time it spends crying. The person who studied them could have made a false assumption. and besides it's possible that Cubone thinks the skull it wears is of its mother since it could have used it for shelter and protection much like a real mother can do.

    • @Kalificus
      @Kalificus 10 лет назад +1

      Wheatleys Galpal If you're saying its possible for the canon descriptions of the pokedex can be void, why not just say that all of the entries are wrong?
      I mean really, when wacko theories go against canon I dont understand how someone like you can still defend it...

    • @courtneytobio642
      @courtneytobio642 10 лет назад +5

      Kalificus
      I'm actually not the one who came up with the Charmander theory. someone else did and you can't fault them for it. especially when mostly basing it off the fact that the skull doesn't look like the right shape for a Kangaskahn. I actually originally sided with the Kangaskahn theory, but when i found the Charmander theory and saw the skull shape difference and sort of sided with that. Although it is very possible that it is actually Kangaskahn cuz maybe the skull wears down to a certain point over time, but who really knows. I'm not trying to go against canon, I'm just making a point. No need to get so serious about it.

      THEGREATMAX Well maybe it is true. I feel that because in the original games cubone's mother is a marowak, and there isn't really very convincing evidence either way really, it's hard to say something like that. A theory I had about fossil poke'mon is that they gained the rock typing when they were revved, and that for some, like Kabutops, had a more organic type that died off after becoming extinct, and was replaced by rock upon revival. It'd easily explain why Kabutops is Water/Rock and Genesect is Bug/Steel, both were Bud/Water back in the day, but the revival (Kabutops)/conversion (Genesect) process got rid of one of their typing to add a different one. This'd also explain why Lance has an Aerodactyl (aside from there not being that many dragon types in the first 2 gens) as it was originally Dragon/Flying that became Rock/Flying

    Not sure if anyone else covered this but there are two theories that I recently heard about that are quite interesting. The first is about the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City in the Gold/Silver/Crystal versions. In this tower you find the three legendary beasts Entei, Riakou, and Suicune. It is said that when the tower burned down three unnamed Pokemon perished in the fire and Ho-oh resurrected them creating the three legendary Pokemon. I recently heard a rumor that the three Pokemon that died were the three original eeveelutions Flareon, Jolteon, and Vaporeon. To me that makes sense because the three Pokemon's types correspond with the three legendary beast's types. The second theory bridges a gap between the 2nd and 4th generations in saying that Arceus created the Unown to create the world. Unown are generally weak on their own but in a group they can create new realities as shown in the movie Spell of the Unown. Also if you listen carefully to a hidden radio signal in the Ruins of Alph the sounds played sound very similar to the sound made by the Azure Flute which is used to create a way to the Hall of Origins where you meet Arceus. Also in the HeartGold/SoulSilver games if you go to the Ruins of Alph with Arceus in your party you will be transported to a new area where Arceus can create a Palkia, Dialga, or Giratina egg for the player. During the scene where Arceus is creating the egg, Unown surround Arceus to help create the new being. Again sorry if these theories have already been covered by a previous comment and if not I hope you enjoyed learning about them and possibly research them more.

    Instead of Kabutops, I actually think it's much more plausible that Genesect is a Scizor. They're both Bug and Steel type, they both have similar designs, and bugs can live a long time (potentially). Also, Scizor looks like a Pokemon that could be a pretty good hunter.

    • @aidanb4477

      But maybe the cannon and the armor were the only thing that they added, and didn't add the steel type. Or maybe it's actually just Scyther.

    • @TheTrueWolfboy
      @TheTrueWolfboy 9 лет назад +2

      Scyther and Scizor are not 300 MILLION years old. Genesect was made from a fossil, and you cannot find fossils of just any Pokémon.

    • @aidanb4477
      @aidanb4477 9 лет назад

      TheTrueWolfboy
      You can make a fossil out of anything. In real life, there are many fossilized bugs. Also, what in Pokemon specifies Scyther and Scizor's age? Bugs can stay around for quite awhile. Just look at cockroaches. With the long life span of bug species (not the individual bug itself), it's very possible Scyther and Scizor could be 3 million years old. Now, if there's proof saying otherwise, I would like to see it.

    • @TheTrueWolfboy
      @TheTrueWolfboy 9 лет назад +2

      Anonymous_X The world of Pokémon is a world in which the animals in it go through dramatic transformations in a single lifespan, never mind millions of years.
      Now, ideas like Kabutops being an ancestor of Scyther? That makes sense. Scyther being the same for 300 million years? That doesn't.

    • @aidanb4477
      @aidanb4477 9 лет назад +1

      Granton8ter05 It's a theory. The theory says that baby sorta just.. "evolves" into Cubone, and since it is sans a mother, it splits off from the Khangaskhan line into the Marowak line. You should be able to find charts online of this. And again, this is a list of UNOFFICIAL relations. So we all know they are fake. They're all theories based on observations.

    The Genesect/Kabutops type discrepancy could be explained by the kabutops remains having damaged DNA. The holes in the genome possibly being patched with that of a physiologically similar (Bug type) Pokemon.

    • @Jerbaloot
      @Jerbaloot 10 лет назад +2

      And in response to the decreased waist size for Genesect from Kabutops, they're supposed to be fossils so they could have just been reconstructs of the skeletons rather than the skin, thus leading to different waist sizes.

    • @Aiika__
      @Aiika__ 10 лет назад

      Could be a splice between both kabutops and scyther? Theyre both profound hunters, have the same scythe like arms and the same head structure. I think also pointing out that genesect as a pod like bottom as well as scyther.

    Kabutops to Genesect
    Kabutops is probably part Rock due to being a fossil Pokemon, not it's original typing(Water/Bug maybe?).
    It could be a bug at the Kabuto seems to be based off of a Trilobite which is in the phylum Arthropod, which includes insects and spiders... and crabs.
    The steel bit could be from the steel/metal casing?

    • @AwesomeHairo
      @AwesomeHairo 9 лет назад +5

      TheTrueWolfboy
      Electric: The likely reason Dragon is resistant against Grass, Water, Fire and Electric is because of their mystical hide, that can only be penetrated by Ice (Most likely a reptilian thing), Dragon (probably has to do with Magic vs. Magic, not sure) and Fairy (Again, Magic penetrating the Dragon's hide)
      Steel =/= Knights. Steel type is meant to just simply be an element. Honeedge has a Steel blade. If it were made by wood, then it'd simply be a Grass/Steel. Otherwise, I get what you're saying.

    Grimer and Muk are sometimes seen as further degraded failed Mew clones. Considering the areas where you find them (PKMN Mansion, the patch of grass close to Fuchsia City, Cerulean Cave (?)), it's actually plausible. The trash pokemon from Gen 5 (forgot it's name) is sometimes thought of as bagged up Grimer/Muk. Although I'm not too sure of the reasoning behind it, I think it has something to do with size, type, and pokedex similarities.

    Here's a thought: If Kangaskhan dies, the baby becomes a cubone out of depression and the desperation to survive makes it tough. However, without nourishment from the Kangaskhan, it doesn't grow as large, and therefor, when it evolves, it wouldn't be as big; ergo Marowak. I think that what happens to the mom determines what happens to the baby. This would actually be pretty deep for the creators to write in, and would be pretty sound from an evolutionary point of view.

      Nick den Toom It states that the mother Charizard lights the baby Charmander's tail, giving it the orange color we're familiar with. However, if the tail isn't lit, the fire-breathing organs never develop inside Charmander and it learns to defend itself with the bones of its mother, and it uses the skull as a sort of helmet because when it was first born, it hid in the skull for warmth.

    • @dragonranger8456

      Researcher Mightyena Ears are cartallige, not bone. You never see a skull with ears because cartallige decomposes. Charizard's horns are made of bone, therefore they never dissapear when a Charizard's skin and muscles decompose.

    to fill the holes in the kabutops/genesect theory think about this:
    scyther has similar scythe shaped hands as kabutops and is bug type. It also has a similar body shape to genesect and when scyther evolves into scizor it loses the flying type and turns into a steel/bug type, the same as genesect.
    it's also interesting to note that kabutop's shiny sprite is green just like scyther's orginal color scheme.
    My theory is that genesect is not a kabutops but a some sort of alternate version of it when it was evolving(not pokemon evolution the actual theory) into some kind of scyther or scizor but died off. Team plasma found a fossil of this pokemon revived and modified it, stuck in a test tube and called it genesect.

    I actually have really always thought that everyone realized Magmar and Electabuzz were supposed to be partnered. Like they're next to each other in the pokedex, both are about the same height and size, they didn't evolve to start out with, and they had babies. The connection was just made further implied with the evolutions of them in gen 4. Just my thoughts though

    The skull that Cubone wears has also been thought that it is a charizard skull, and when it is born (as a charmander), it's tail does not get lit, because it's mother is dead and wears her skull originally as a shelter.

    We need more theories like this.
    Like the N battle in B/W 2. Was it N or Zorua?

      Haven't hear that before, I mainly hear that Genesect is a Kabutops that has mostly replaced by machines as Genesect was made by people

      Genesect's Pokedex entry clearly states it was modified from a Pokemon that lived 300 million years ago. If Kabuto and Kabutops, which were the prime hunters of their age, went extinct, anything else that was around at the time surely would have. Scizor couldn't have lived around there and still exist today - in addition to that, if they did indeed exist around then, they would have to be Scyther, since there were no Metal Coats around or refined metal for it to make its hard exterior as it is.

    in episode 2 of Pokemon Origins, Marowak is Cubones mom

    • @rosecal19
      @rosecal19 10 лет назад

      that could be it because if Cubone was Kangaskans Kids wouldnt he evolve onto Kangaskan.

      Rosecal19 :) Many species when changing how and where they live can effect their evolutions therefore instead of evolving into Kangaskan it will evolve into Marowak because of where it lives and how it learned to adapt

    How ironic. Whilst you were talking about Venonat and Butterfree on my wonder trade in Pokemon Y I just got... A FREAKIN VENONAT. Cool

    Personally I think Genesects original form from 300 million years ago is actually a form of an ancient Scyther.

      I support this theory. Just to help with it: Scyther has blade-like arms as well, evolves into a bug/steel type, and it's body shape is not too different from Genesect's. So, yeah, I agree that Genesect could've been Scyther's ancestor.

      FlamerXMagofire01 Exactly why I thought that. It just reminded me so much of Scyther.

      you know i don't think visual comparisons over 300 million years of evolution count..
      kabutops is a ressurected fossil so it looks like it did then
      scyther isn't and over that long a time span scythers ancestors probably looked completely diffirent
      hell kabutops might even be scythers ancestor who knows

    6:20 There are new connections to Electabuzz and Magmar. The Sprng 2014 UK event for X and Y X gives you an Electabuzz and Y gives you a Magmar. In the Virbank Complex in B/W2, In B2 you encounter Magby in W2 you encounter Elekid.

    Like the Voltorb theory because I hate that kind of pokemon, the ones in the "shield, sword and chandelier" category. But a pokeball haunted by an established ghost pokemon, I can sort of relate to.
