I went yesterday to see the first official tram. I had exactly the same Wi-Fi experience in Preston!
Honestly as A Prestonian, Preston's infrastructure is bad at best. I hope to be there on Sunday.

Great! Trams! When I visited blackpool in 2001 they were traditional trams! Baloons boats and railcars! Now they have bells! Thanks for that video Jen!
The South Flyde Line is such a unique little branch line and I still would like to visit Blackpool to see the old heritage trams.

It could have been interesting if there was a track connection made at North station and Tram Trains could have been purchased to run to at least Kirkham and Wesham with the option to electrify the line to Blackpool south and connect that line to the tram line at Waterloo Road.

What do you think about the idea of a tunnel between North and South stations, an underground Central station, shared track with the main line between North and the halfway point between Layton and Poulton-le-Fylde, then using the abandoned alignment to Fleetwood?
All the way from Kirkham & Wesham to Fleetwood in a matter of minutes! Then you can keep the trams for the smaller distance travelling and have the metro for getting from one end to another, or for getting to North station quickly!

So agree with you, non stop is the best way to ride the tramway. Did it on the Dreadnought once, parked it in the siding at Fleetwood (now gone) where it derailed. Quick reverse and all OK. Back down in the dark while the illuminations were on. Great tour. Thanks for reminding me.

Thanks for this. It's so long ago I spent a few weeks in Blackpool when they were digging up the road for the extension , and again two years later when it looked broadly the same, that I had removed any idea that it was a project to be finished one day.
Never though I would ever see a tram stop that close to the Holiday inn, that's pretty handy if your planning a couple of days in Blackpool.
Not been to Fleetwood (or Blackpool), but using my usual filter (Good Beer Guide) it looks pretty good. Blackpool, looks a bit like Atlantic City, NJ. Rough, but the basis of the Monopoly Board. And if Diamond Geezer can get a whole series out of that (the 🇬🇧 version), Blackpool must be with a gander, or even a butchers.
If it was raining at the end of the line - would you get a Fleetwood Mac?
There used to be a big markety, outlet place somewhere there about 30 years ago where I did actually buy myself a coat.

Went to Blackpool a few years ago, it was a tip then and no amount of new trams will improve that toilet 🚽 😅
Blackpool North TRAIN Station. Saying it is one thing but making it into a big sign is quite another.

I agree about the timetable but the trouble is resources, or lack of them, with only an extra two trams having been built for the extension, imo, there's really only one way to avoid the half hourly services and that's to scrape the sacred cow of a through Starr Gate-Fleetwood direct route, which generally has only very minimal through traffic, replacing it with a twenty minute Pleasure Beach-Little Bispham or Cleveleys service, which should enable all three routes to run every twenty minutes, which is a more realistic frequency.
As things stand, the direct service is liable to get swamped without the aid of any specials!
Im hoping to go on sunday! Wont be able to make it for the first tram, but being there on the first public day will be good!
when PVTA 29 opened i didn't realize how far apart Amherst and Springfield were.
Finally, a service! It's been under construction for soooo long. Rather unkind comments about Blackpool but sadly it is a shadow of what it was when I was growing up. To note - locals pronounce it 'Talbot' as rhyming with 'Albert' rather than as rhyming with "Colbert".
Great video as usual Jen! Do you know if the tram goes anywhere near Blackpool South Station? I only ask for 'Visiting Every Station' purposes. If it does, it'll save on walking

we dont have departure boards on the blackpool trams, we have timetables at every tram stop

yeah its gonna confuse residents with the fact the trams are only going starr gate to NS and NS to Fleetwood, they havent said yet if youll need a new ticket or if you can buy one on either t2 or t3 and do the entire line
I know the trams would make it difficult, but I still think they really should implement a tunnel between Blackpool North and South, and run metro services between Fleetwood and Kirkham & Wesham. It's such a shame to have an underused alignment and a completely disused alignment across such a large space! At the very least, let stopper services use the disused line between Poulton and Fleetwood!!! 😇🙏 Please? 🥺
They changed the timetable so ALL trams after 9am go via north
So Blackpool have built a tram stop - a terminus so no chance of extending - and access to the railway station is through a tunnel underneath an hotel. No chance of trams pulling up outside the station. And it cost how much? Welcome to Blackpool
Yes, this project was partly financed by developer (hotel) this is why stop is in this place. (at least I heard this strory)
Shame. It is plenty space on side of railway station, and can be done a lot better with more rain protection, without road crossing and level change (like Meadowhall Terminus in Sheffield or Hucknall, Notts)

They probably had them off as they didn't want the front boards to mislead people in to it being in full passenger/public use! The trams do have PA announcements though!

Cannot see why all trams can't leave Fleetwood 10 mins earlier, then you would not have a 5 & 25 min headway all day between Blackpool and Starr Gate in thar direction ???

I’m not sure you’re thinking about the same service… there were plenty of tickets still available and no application was needed. Some of the other tours later in the week have even been cancelled because of lack of demand

Well spotted! Of course it is Blackpool North Railway Station. Shame on Blackpool Council for their bad grammar errors.
But a bus station isn't a road station!
Ultimately there’s nothing wrong with train station and it can be used interchangeably with railway station.
We really need to stop being snobby about language as it’s just used as a tool for one group of people to look down on others.
Let’s just get on and enjoy our hobby without worrying about semantics
